Haha, oh man Redding CA brings back memories. Listening to this I was making a check list of my experience and the very late realization of being a lesbian after being raised in Northen California and home schooled in a Christian family. Luckily I skipped the truly strange experience that is a Christian college. Toxic purity culture at its peak.
Excellent, excellent episode. Instant subscribe and like.

I just discovered this podcast, and I love it so much. As someone who was raised deeply Catholic while being gay, I resonate with these stories so much.
Also, y'all should listen to the podcast "Dear Alana." It's about a gay woman who was raised Catholic and the trauma that it caused. The podcast changed my life.

This is so relatable I myself went by a lot of similar beliefs and realised at the age of 34 that maybe I like both.

I think this is the last episode, I've binged almost all the way through what's been released so far, and this is crazy because i was homeschooled, and my story has a lot of similarities.

That's an American view . Ireland is the second most catholic country in Europe ( after Poland) and was the first country in the world to legalise same sex marriage. I live in Australia which is essentially secular . Very few people are church goers . Homophobia is rampant despite anti christiant sentiment.
Basically fundamentalist religions are homophobic but there is more space in more liberal organised religionsfor LGBTIQ + people .
Antireligious people can be homophobic facist communist or liberal, tolerant ... . The whole range is there too

Hi, I'm a Christian lesbian. I've been enjoying these videos. From what I've heard it seems like a lot of lesbians don't realize they are lesbians until later in life. As a teenager I had a couple crushes on boys but I would call the boys or men I liked, "pretty" back then. And after highschool I had no crushes or interest in men at all. Sometimes I would tell myself well maybe a right guy will come along and I will magically be attracted to him. After a while I told myself, well, maybe I should be open to being with a woman since I'm not finding men attractive. One day when I was at my volunteer job, I just had this moment of feeling attraction for another woman. It was just like a second. and I thought, "well, wait, she's a woman." I just knew I wanted to walk with her and talk with her. That didn't really ever happen. But it was a moment that is something poignant that I remember. Later when I was like 25 I fell in love with a woman but I don't know if she felt the same way or not. Nothing developed. But I was happy to find out that I was capable of falling in love with a woman. Nowadays if I look at men on dating apps, I literally get a sick feeling in my stomach. No offense to men. I don't know why I feel that way. I don't know if I'm picking up on creepy vibes from their photos or what.

Ps: Nate, once celibate summer is over, I think you should try to talk these two into going on a date together. Not saying this just because they're both women and gay, it's that I feel Susie is close to what Michelle described as her type :D

Nate which world do you want to live in? Any organized religion is mind control. Persecuting same-sex sexuality is just the tip of the iceberg. Go anywhere in the world and you'll find the same thing - organized religion is a bureaucracy designed to control our minds. How can you ever hope to be your true self if your mind is controlled by other people instead of by you? What if we pretend that Jesus and all his apostles were attracted to men sexually, does that change anything? You can add that to your theology because your religion belongs to you not to someone else. Take back your mind. You're already halfway there by admitting to yourself that you are attracted to male partners. Now finish the job, take back the rest of your mind - say goodbye to the haters who live in a world that doesn't exist anymore. Organized religion isn't real, it's all in your mind. People like yourself are civilized and kind because that's the way you like people to be including yourself, not because you fear god or some divine punishment, it simply feels better to your mind to be the kind of person you want to be in relationships with. I'm the same way, so are a lot of people. Compassion, empathy, kindness, are all characteristics of a healthy mind and they're the building blocks of a healthy community. Religion can't take credit for that, it simply works as a cultural norm for intelligent creatures like humans. Organized religions have historically coerced people to do beastly ghastly things to other people - it's all mind control. Take a step back and see how religion exerts itself inside our minds - you'll be shocked at how much you've been indoctrinated. You can stop twisting yourself into a pretzel to make sense out of religion. Religion wants to control you because that's all it is, organized mind control. These are the best years of your life, go live them the way you want to. True happiness is waiting for you to take back control of your life.
