this is probably the most effectively educational hair video i have watched. Thank you so much. if i could give 10 likes for this video, i would! now i see why my hair is not acting the way i think it should be as i have been trying to follow the ever-popular "LOC" method. now i will know which direction to go
+Patricia Williams you can still use the LOC method with high, low and medium porosity hair types. The only difference is in the types of products that u choose to use. I have low porosity hair like Charisse, and when I do the LOC method I just use a hair steamer to open up my hair cuticles, and then apply my products. When I wash my hair I always make sure to close my hair cuticles with cold water.
Thank you for that info JoAnnie A! When i do my porosity test, I'm going to keep that in mind most definitely if i discover that I have low porosity hair. Now if I'm medium, does that mean i can choose either heavier or lighter oils/creams? Or do i need to stick to one type? And what would you recommend for high porosity hair types (i.e. hair steamer probably would not be the best regimen)...just want to make sure I'm giving my hair exactly what it needs.
I watched a ton of videos on how to understand and check my hair porosity and I'll have to say this one was the best you described and explains perfectly thank you very much😘
OMG Thank you queen! I'm low porosity and I had no idea. Now I am more aware of what products to use! I'm on my hair journey (2 years of being mindful) my hair is thick and stick straight down 3 in past my pits lol. Trying to grow down to my bum! 💕💕
This was so informative. I am current growing out a short cut on my natural hair and this should really help me retain my moisture and length. Loved it. xo
i loved this video! it's so important to learn about your own hair, as opposed to watching someone with a similar hair texture show you what works for them. great idea, hope there are more videos like this in the future!
You're about to have everyone in the bathroom plucking hair out of their combs and brushes with bowls of water and spray bottles before the new year loll . Love the tips tho! Another RUclipsr did a similar video to this, however it was testing the elasticity of the hair! Similar water trick!
I just did the tests and thank you so much this video was so informative . I only did the putting strand of hair test in a bowl for me and my mother, mostly for the fact it was floating like a boat. I think i always knew me and mum was low porosity because no matter what we used our was always dry.Even when i conditioned it, it was matty. This has helped me and now i can care for my mother's hair even better. Now i have to research the best products and techniques thank you so much.
seriously, this is the best explanation of hair porosity I've ever seen, thank you so much! I THINK I have medium porosity hair, but I'm going to use both of these tests tonight to confirm.
I went natural for 4 years and then went back to relaxers this past year ( June 2015). I recently relaxed my hair after going 5 month + without one. My hairstylist recommended that I only stretch my relaxers 3 months while I want to stretch it longer. My question is how did you tend to your hair in between relaxer treatments? At first glance, I would have thought you were still getting relaxers. You had me fooled! Another thing, this video was such great help, I now know why products "sits" on my hair, rather than actually moisturizer it. Truly a wake up call.
Last night, I found out about the bowl test for hair porosity. So I did the test (yes, with Clean hairs! I also used a few strands cleaned with dish soap to be sure there wasn't any oil sitting on top) I found out I have low porosity hair and forgot to clean it up before going to bed. This afternoon, I found the bowl again... And my hair was still sitting on top 🤣 I guess there's no doubt my hair is low porosity 🤭 I didn't have to do the spray bottle test, because I spray my hair every morning and it's a challenge to get it all truly wet/damp!
Thank you for posting this video. I recently relaxed again after being natural for a few years but I wanted to make sure I took the best care of my hair this time around.
OMG......I'm new to your channel and wondering "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE" I have never watched an informative video in my life. Thank you so much!!!!!!!
I have normal my daughter has low porosity...therefore I have been trying to find the "right" product that works for her hair. This video was very informative!!! Thanks
You can use an homemade spray made with aloe vera gel and distelled water! I use it and my hair now they don't have breakage and they are super soft and hydratedet! You must try it because it works
Great video. I tried out both methods and it seems like I definitely have low porosity hair. The thing is that I always thought that due to my dry hair, butters would be good for my hair. It's strange because during summer months heavy butters and oils weight my hair down but in the winter months my hair needs butters and oils and it works great in my hair. I'm new to learning about my porosity. But thanks for sharing these videos very helpful and interesting!
I'm so glad you have low porosity hair because I have it to and I've been trying to find out what works for my hair and these videos really help love your channel ❤️😍😊
Very helpful Charisse! I've learned about hair porosity since starting my natural hair journey in 2011 but, your video helped me understand it better which helps me since I'm focused more on my hairs health. Thanks for sharing your understanding of hair porosity. By the way (lol) my hair goals for 2016 are: 1. healthy hair (as mention above) and 2. protective styling. I'm really interested in the yarn twist and the yarn faux locs. Thanks for the videos!
So glad I found your channel. Very helpful video, I have low porosity hair. Please can you do a video on how you moisturise your hair without it ending up greasy, especially since (I guess) your hair is straightened? Xx
Love the video!! I have transitioning hair and noticed the relaxed half is high porosity as it sank right to the bottom and the unrelaxed hair is low as it is floating at the top. My regimen is very specific to tend to both porosity types. Ugh ready for the relaxed ends to be gone 😩😩
Low porosity This video was very helpful thanks but Just to clarify water based moisturisers are better then heavy ones for relaxed hair I'm so confused on what my hair likes?¿
Thanks for this! Forever I've read and assumed that I had high porosity hair because I'm relaxed. So when I finally recently did the tests, I was really confused that I kept getting low porosity results. I asked my mom and she goes "Oh yeah! Girl I coulda told you that. Your hair takes forever to get wet!" So now I know I'm not just weirdo and there are other relaxed lo-pos like me lol
Btw if you haven't already can you please do a video on how you accomplish your bun style here? I'm in love with it! I cannot for the life of me figure out those bun socks, and tbh the material some of them are made of seems drying, so help would be appreciated! :)
Thank you for the tips ! very interesting x I informative. I will definitely check my hair porosity after I relaxed my hair (tomorrow lol) Love your channel btw, soooo nice to see good editing, good advice with a girl with relaxed hair :) (even if it's now temporary)
Love your explaination, I have seen many and this one I give an A, I understand it! I will try the second method on my hair also but I believe the majority of my hair is low porosity. And understanding porosity in my humble opinion will help me to better care for my hair, I hope as I have been natural for about 3 yrs ??? and I am still having trouble learning what myhair needs and likes. Thanks a bunch, btw I love your makeup simple nd beautiful, esp your eye makeup, I am very very very simple whenit comes to that can you do a tutorial on the make up u did for this video please??
Low porosity for me. I need to do better with moisturizing and sealing, and being more consistent with it. My hair is relaxed and is also fine, so I tend to stay away from putting too much product in it.
So can you use the heavier oils like Shea butter if you have low porosity hair? If not why? I feel like if I use the lighter oils I have to moisturize my hair more often.
I have low porosity and shea butter pull down my hair. A lot of people recommand grapeseed oil for low porosity hair because it´s a light oil and penetrates the hair shaft. (Sorry for my grammar, I don't speak english fluently)
Both tests showed i have mixed porosity hair. My hair floated some parts to the bottom some in the middle and some at the top. When i did the water test with a spray bottle the water towards the roots fell off and didnt soak in and toward the end it just sucked it all up.
this is probably the most effectively educational hair video i have watched. I completely agree.

I totally agree... Know I understand that I have low porosity hair!
so we're all supposed to just ignore that cute like panther you have roaming in the background?! so cute!!!!
Low porosity hair
I watched a ton of videos on how to understand and check my hair porosity and I'll have to say this one was the best you described and explains perfectly thank you very much😘
Is it possible to have a combination of both types of porosities??
OMG Thank you queen! I'm low porosity and I had no idea. Now I am more aware of what products to use! I'm on my hair journey (2 years of being mindful) my hair is thick and stick straight down 3 in past my pits lol. Trying to grow down to my bum! 💕💕

Almost a year later and finally! A channel for low porosity curlies. Thank you❣

Really helpful! I plan on doing this today! Can you do a video on how to tell which category your hair falls under? (Info about 4a 2c hair etc)
I just did the tests and thank you so much this video was so informative . I only did the putting strand of hair test in a bowl for me and my mother, mostly for the fact it was floating like a boat.
