- It’s been one year since Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, died in a helicopter crash, alongside seven others in Calabasas, California. Now, ET is taking a look inside his wife, Vanessa’s year of grief and incredible strength. Plus how she’s managed to keep the former NBA stars’ ‘Mamba Mentality’ alive.

I cannot wrap my head around that it’s been a year already since we lost Kobe, Gianna and the 7 others. My thoughts and prayers are forever with all the families and friends and everyone they left behind, I hope they know how loved and missed they’re by us all.

It’s hard to believe because he has so much more to live for and a family of 5 females who need him. 4 girls lost their dad and 3 of them lost their sister and a mother lost both of her husband and daughter. It’s still very shocking because it came out of nowhere and he was in the prime of his life. Anyone dying like this, it’s hard to believe it can even happen

I’m still shook that her OWN mother would sue her for money that’s NOT hers
its not right, BUT her mom is dealing with her grief in her own way.. people freak out differently my aunt and uncle went after my parents after my grandparents died sueing my parents for living in their own house that my grandparents GAVE them. my aunt and uncle had nothing to do with the house but they wanted money....
"Family" is just a word, after all.

Though it might be extremely tough, it probably helps that she has Natalia and especially the little ones who need attention. Gives her a reason to live on so many days when I'm sure she doesn't want to live in all that pain and grief.

It’s one feeling of grief to lose your spouse but to lose your daughter.... that’s must be absolutely PAINFUL!

Sure Vanessa is grieving, but she’s not homeless and thankfully doesn’t have to worry about finances while grieving the death of her husband and daughter. I do agree that her mother shouldn’t have sued her daughter for money that wasn’t hers to begin with, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t evict my mother out of the house she was living in if I had money like Vanessa does. Evicting my mother would be the least of my concerns if I was grieving the death of a loved one, but only God knows what was really going on between them.

Sometimes when people pass, whether it’s a celebrity or even a regular person, they become better known or acknowledged by others, that didn’t really acknowledge them as much, when they were on earth.It was most definitely, NOT, like that with Kobe. He was ALWAYS a really big deal. He was honored during his time on earth. As painful as it is that he is gone, it is heartwarming to know, he was reminded of by the world, how special he was & his worth! Unfortunately, the second year is often times even worse than the first because more feelings come up that the mind wouldn't allow to surface during a shock shut down.
Yes, as time goes on. People say time heals but in my expierence you learn to live with it.
I remember when my mother died, I cried at the grocery store at Easter time because I saw black licorice jelly beans. My mom loved those jelly beans.
That's the weird thing about grief. Little things sneak up upon you when you least expect them. It's unimaginable sharing your life with someone like Kobe, who became a legend, losing him and the child their love created and sharing those unexpected memories with the world. That is why Vanessa was a good fit with Kobe. Her strength lives on for their remaining daughters.

If you're together with someone that long you see every side of their personality, every flaw, every heartbreak, every challenge. He married the person who was strong enough to be by his side even when he made bad choices. That's what love is. It's not about marrying within your race. It's about choosing a partner through the good and bad. Love makes race colorblind.

I get chills when I think of her life and how much loss she's experienced and not really being able to experience it because she has her 3 beautiful children to be strong for. She is an inspiration and I pray for her heart to heal one day, even if never completely.
