Clean as much of fruit off as you can and leave to dry for a day or two. Then gently pull off the bottom leaves until you expose little root nubs at the base of the top. Plop that in soil or suspend in a small cup with water. The tops allowed to root in water will grow faster, but they can be tedious because you have to change the water almost daily, filling it to the sane level, or else they will rot. The tops I plopped in soil, I put in a shady part of my yard or in the corner of a room with decent indirect light and only water when dry like with any other plant. They will take longer to root, you can give them a little tiny tug upwards every once in awhile to test if they have rooted. Although they take longer to root, because their root development is relatively undisturbed, I have found these plant to be better growers in the long run compared to the water rooted tops. However both methods work to grow your own pineapple plant! Happy planting!!
@@Birdbike719 it grows a clone of the mother plant. The fruit won't be as big as the ones you find in the store, and it will take a few years for the plant to mature, but you can allow the fruit to ripen fully on the plant and it will be the best pineapple you've ever tested. The reason store bought pineapples are so acidic is because they have to be picked far too early. So the pineapple will never get as sweet as it can be, just less acidic. While it sits on your counter top "ripening" the acidity level drop and the sugars ferment. Home grown pineapples can be picked off the plant when yellow and eaten that day. It's mindblowingly delicious. You'll begin to plant every pineapple top like me ☺
When we went to the Dole factory in Hawaii they told us if you pluck out one of the leaves from the top it is ripe if the leaf comes out easily. Behind the pineapple' s eyes are little seeds. I grew several of them they look like little sesame seeds. Pick them out, dry them for about week, then plant the seeds. Enjoy if you love gardening & plenty of pineapple's... lol Donna
Hey, try to save the peel and the center and put in a super large pot and let it simmer for 45 min, strain it and add some sugar. Serve chilled. is an awesome drink! ZERO waste! You know I might make this ice cold tea in my channel...
I love pineapple, though I like it to remain as fresh as possible, so I never cut an entire one apart at once. For a realistic approach if you only want a bit at a time, or are just one person in a household, slice off the part attached to the crown. Then, slice a reasonably thick ring from there. Leave the bottom intact. Cut the ring in half and remove the core in a triangular shape way, leaving the skin entirely intact. Eat the pineapple ring halves as you would watermelon with the skin on. This ensures you are eating as much of the pineapple as possible without waste and also, the closer you eat the pineapple to the core, the more bromelain you get, which is beneficial. Now store the rest of the pineapple fruit exposed side down on a simple plate in the fridge, with no need for plastics, foils or any other nonsense. When you want more pineapple, repeat the process straight from the fridge. Fruit stays fresh and tart for several days. Pineapple is too delicious to waste and fruits cut too early lose vitamin and nutrient content, do not do that.
If it ripens from the bottom up, wouldn't it make more sense to eat it from the bottom up if you are just one person? Just cut the bottom peel off in as thin a slice as possible and sit the cut side down on a plate & keep cutting rings/slices off every time until you get close to the top then maybe remove the leaf part of top couple slices so you can root & plant it?
@aedynjakpoetry - Thank you for this... as a household of one person, I love a tip that lets me enjoy pineapple longer & waste less, without having to rush & eat more than I wished at one time, just to make sure I get to eat it all before it goes bad. Having to stuff yourself to prevent waste takes away some of the enjoyment of the food. I'm excited to try your tips! God bless!😇 [7.17.2024]

How do I get to heaven? Will my good deeds be measured against my bad deeds? Do I need to be a good person to go to heaven? How do I know if I'm good enough? Well the bible says no man is good, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So how do we get to heaven? Answer: By believing on Jesus Christ who took the punishment for our sin on the cross. There are no amount of good works we can do to achieve salvation because salvation is a free gift of God. We need to humble ourselves, realize we are sinners and that we need a savior. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave his only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
My technique is the same as your father, I actually have 5 pineapples growing/maturing in my garden at the moment, planted from tops or crowns removed from store bought pineapple, I planted those 2 years ago some directly in my garden and some are in big pots and here in Cambodia my pineapple takes around 2-3 months tops to mature. The new pineapples I get from replanted crowns are smaller but have nothing to be ashamed off in terms of taste and sweetness! They are just mind blowing! I actually leave them on the plant till they turn almost completely yellow... Next one to be devoured will be in a week or two max, can’t wait!!
Susan Zhu straight in the soil after removing the bottom leave on about 2 inches, then I place it in a pot with soil and water it for a week in direct sun. And then you should see some changes in the remaining leaves which would mean you start to have roots and from then water every 2-3 days depending where you live... I have 100% success with this method so far.
I am a pineapple addict, so I'm always looking for new ways to peel and enjoy it. I really like how beautiful your dad's technique makes the pineapple look. It looks like it could be some kind of sculptural centerpiece....if it weren't so good to eat. I hear there are pink pineapples; has anyone ever tried one of those?

Very true about how the pineapple used to be a symbol of wealth before it became domestically available. In fact, pineapple wasn't actually eaten, in most cases. The wealthy often used them for decorative purposes on the dinner table, much the same way a center piece is. It was used as a symbol of wealth and a conversational topic.
Also when a man eats pineapple it is good for his love life. When anyone eats pineapple a lot, it also numbs the taste buds. This is why some people that eat pineapples are able to consume something they didn't like the taste of. I have no idea about how much pineapple has to be eating to numb the taste buds. If your interested google it.
@Dick Fageroni well, since it was rare, they would have had to order it special from some exotic place, or go to an exotic place to get it. Much more of a conversation than today, "ah, I see you went to the store today!"

SPOILER ALERT; Fastforward to 3:38mins; for sort of start......and you still need a knife.....aggghhhhhh. PS the crown must be left to dry out for a few weeks if planting in the ground as it will usually rot otherwise.

FGF 001 I disagree with you with letting it dry, I replant my top and never waited a min after cutting them, what I do instead of going straight to soil is that I make sure there is no fruit attached to the top and I also prune the bottom leaves on about 2-4 cm from the bottom up and stick it straight in the soil, I provide water on a daily basis for a good week till I see signs of plant being happy and from there I give water every 3 days or so as pineapple enjoy the drought... so no need to wait and dry, it works perfectly well by planting them right away.
The tradition came from England to the East Coast of the US, too. When sailors went home from sea, they would take pineapples. But sometimes, they were no longer good to eat, so the family would put them on the gate posts as a signal to neighbours that their son was home, and it was okay to come calling. Flash forward a few hundred years, and I live in a tourist town on the coast, and it's our city's symbol, the symbol of hospitality.
The gate posts at my parent's house has pineapples on top (even though we're American) and I always thought that was strange... Now I know why. You learn something new everyday!
Here in Charleston most houses that have pineapples on posts have moveable pineapples. They were tipped to indicate if sailors/men of the homes were home or away.

Then you said a ripe pineapple could not be picked up by one of its leaves?
I love all the extra information in your video! I learned now to take a pienapple apart this way as well al learning lots of information about a pienapple I never knew. I'm definitely planting the leaves and see what happens!

dip the cut pinapple in salt water and then rinse to kill the enzymes that make your mouth sore. this happened to me every time I ate pineapple till I tried this hack! @@@emmymade

Awesome 👏
Genius! I'm gonna try this as I am the only one in my family that likes pineapples.
@@elspet3813 try it and let me know
@aedynjakpoetry - Thank you for this... as a household of one person, I love a tip that lets me enjoy pineapple longer & waste less, without having to rush & eat more than I wished at one time, just to make sure I get to eat it all before it goes bad. Having to stuff yourself to prevent waste takes away some of the enjoyment of the food. I'm excited to try your tips! God bless!😇

Best comment here. I think it should get stickied.
Pull leaf from the center and if it pulls easy it is ripe. Yes this works great in the store.
Why do you put the core in your water bottle?

Hi!
@503 Workshop Was wondering the same thing😁
503 Workshop in the UK it’s usually July 🍍
wow here in Greece we have it all year round, it's actually wayyyy cheap around this time of the year (November to April) because nobody buys them
Is there a season? Because they grow in tropical climes, they're probably available all year. The best one I ever had was in Hawaii. At the moment I live in New Zealand, and can buy pineapples from the Philippines most of the year.
You were such a delight to watch while teaching me about cutting pineapple. ^_^ Thank you! 🫶
I just love how in all your videos you actually do research.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave his only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Well, I actually found this quite informative. Thanks
I am so covetous.
ALaurel Jordan just do it and be patient my friend good things comes to those who can wait!!
When you plant it, do you just put in some soil then water it daily? Or do you let it dry up for the roots to grow?
Susan Zhu straight in the soil after removing the bottom leave on about 2 inches, then I place it in a pot with soil and water it for a week in direct sun. And then you should see some changes in the remaining leaves which would mean you start to have roots and from then water every 2-3 days depending where you live... I have 100% success with this method so far.
Up2 Me thank you so much 😄
I am a pineapple addict, so I'm always looking for new ways to peel and enjoy it. I really like how beautiful your dad's technique makes the pineapple look. It looks like it could be some kind of sculptural centerpiece....if it weren't so good to eat. I hear there are pink pineapples; has anyone ever tried one of those?
That enzyme technically is dissolving you so while you eat the pineapple the pineapple 🍍 eats you 😂😂😂
Yea don’t eat too much and I think it’s bad to have it sit in stomach at night. Probably dissolve a hole in your stomach so maybe just a cup is okay not too much and eat other things to go with it
Is there anything to neutralize those enzymes?
@@MiniNinja258 soak it in salt water for around 15-30 minutes. then you can eat it but if you don't want the salty taste, you can first rinse it in water
@@MiniNinja258 human organs are surprisingly resilient and constantly regenerating. Remember, the stomach is literally a bag of acid. It'll probably be fine. A good idea to clean the mouth before sleep though.
MikeW19 that’s actually impossible since stomach acid has a much lower pH than the pineapple. However if you eat a lot (emphasis on a LOT) it can possibly cause your mouth to bleed
Your dad’s technique makes it look so pretty and fancy. I’ll have to try it
We indonesian do this way as well. Fancy yeah... haha
Arinda Ariyani I think most Asians use that technique as well. It’s so pretty 😁 I don’t know why most throw away the core. It’s my favorite part of a pineapple

Also a symbol for the pineal gland *Third Eye*
Now it's lunch. 8D
pomegranates also represented wealth also blessed .
Also when a man eats pineapple it is good for his love life.
When anyone eats pineapple a lot, it also numbs the taste buds.
This is why some people that eat pineapples are able to
consume something they didn't like the taste of.
I have no idea about how much pineapple has to be eating to
numb the taste buds. If your interested google it.
@Dick Fageroni well, since it was rare, they would have had to order it special from some exotic place, or go to an exotic place to get it. Much more of a conversation than today, "ah, I see you went to the store today!"

I found a video showing how to eat pineapple without a knife. It's the same way as this video, except you peel the leaves on the bottom of the pineapple, eventually reaching the flesh: ruclips.net/video/3X7YpOzdnsM/видео.html
Looked specifically for your comment. I didn't come for the history of the pineapple. Good lord. 😂
Oddly, pineapples are a Georgian symbol of hospitality. Some old houses have metal pineapples on top of the gate posts.
