+Matthew Stott - You are right, some People don't know what TIME is...? It can be your Friend or an Enemy. In this case, Time is his Friend :)))
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
+villfer78 that's flawed logic. they aren't producing just one pineapple they produce many baby plants that then flower and fruit and also the baby plant that comes from the top of the harvested pineapple. do they take awhile to grow yes they do but you get much more than just a pineapple and can have different plants growing fruit at different times.
For those living in very warm climates, like southern Florida or California, it costs people who have a yard nothing to grow pineapples. They can simply plant the tops in a sunny location in their yard and ignore them until the fruit is ready to harvest. Since the tops come with the pineapples which are purchased for food, it costs nothing to plant them.
One family in Florida plants them around the base of the trees in their yard, making a the most attractive part of their otherwise minimal landscaping. They just pulled up the sod, planted the pineapple tops, and mulched. Using untreated shredded bark mulch, this suppresses nearly all weeds, and only needs to be replenished rarely. (Treated or colored mulch contains chemicals which could be absorbed by the plants and is not a good idea.) Their yard is much more attractive with the pineapple plants growing around the base of their trees, plus it is easier to mow.
They could have purchased ornamental plants, but instead chose to plant pineapple tops - and now they replant the tops of the pineapples they harvest, and the 'pups' or shoots that form off the stalks of the pineapple plants, so it costs them nothing to keep it going, and takes only a few minutes of their time. Sounds pretty logical to me.

I’m in Florida and pineapples grow really well here. Perfect climate. It only takes 1 to 1 1/2 years for them to grow. Every spring and summer I plant a bunch of the tops. They’re so much sweeter than any store bought. They are worth the wait!

I'm in florida as well and want to grow pineapples. We just had 2-3 days where it dropped to about 30 overnight. Will they survive that?
@@1QKGLH I have never covered my plant and it has survived many nights below 30.
Yea aight. Ain't nobody got time to wait no 2 damn years. The fertilizer and water plus the pots cost far more than just buying a 3 dollar pineapple from the market

Mansour Elsaid omg I agree with you 200%
Thank you for sharing us your knowledge on how to plant pineapple .properly. using you're technically so I very much impressed and encouraged to use the top leaves by planting itas far as I know mostly the
As far as I know mostly the pineapple producer used to plant only the new side shoots of the pineapple. Cut off top leaves is only thrown the thrush garbage.
So we can save the top cut off leaves ready for planting to grow it later and just wait for the fruits for home consumption.
I 100% AGREE!! I can't learn when the videos are only half done. I've messed up lots because of that. Ita all a learning process but the more info is awesomely helpful!

I have one that I started a few years back, my husband said to me why you want to plant one it takes 5 years to bear, I started it anyway, it has baby shoots about 3 but no pineapple as yet, I started it because my son loves pineapple, even if I am not around when it bears he and my grandchildren will hopefully get to harvest and eat the fruit. ❤

I had the same problem. A Facebook friend told me to wrap the plant in a air tight plastic bag with a rotten apple. I did that and almost instantly i had my pineapple flower and my pineapple was almost twice the size as his. The mother plant won't produce again but it will give you other shoots that will. If you cut it off when is not ripe enough it won't ripped anymore. Wait till it's a golden color all over. I wish I could find my pictures of my pineapple pineapple. Good luck
After the first one it shouldn't take that long. My leaves are probably 4 feet tall so I hope it does something soon.

The plant only grows one pineapple at a time. Truly amazing. We as Americans need to be much more grateful for the produce, and the growers, for producing the food we have been able to eat. Thanks for the beautiful video.
Not true actually, you can get several pineapples off each plant. When it fruits it sends off suckers 3 to 6 of them I pull off some and plant I leave one or two on. If you leave two on then you get two smaller pineapples.
Ritakus 98 koll..’kk
@@jeffriffel4364 I have 6 suckers on one plant and 5 on another. So from what you suggest I should pull some of these off and plant them and the ones that remain will produce more pineapples. Now, should the suckers be rooted in water or do I just go right to the soil? Thanks!
@Sergio Aguirre I know I did not say it is a charity. What I am saying is we must be grateful for the produce we have available, often times we forget to appreciate the food we have been given and the work and time it takes to produce one pineapple.

Absolutely. Fascinating. Thanks for this.
I got a pineapple top to grow once and had it indoors for a couple of years in an 8-inch pot. It didn’t grow a pineapple but it was very satisfying to see it grow. Unfortunately I read on the internet that you should water them from the top, letting water into the leaves. This resulted in the plant rotting and dying. Later I read that they are very sensitive to rotting, so you have to be careful not to overwater! Where I live it’s more cool and humid so that is a big problem. I hope to try again but subsequent attempts have failed to root. One day, I will have my pineapple. It will be ripe and sweet and tiny. I will be a proud plant parent.
My initial plant rotted too! It went brown and dry. Then I left it in compost and a healthy pup emerged! It was amazing to see
3 years to plant, 3 minutes to eat it. lol. After 3 years you prob realise you didn't plant a pineapple, you planted patience. lol

I have one growing on my patio for 4 months now. When I was in highschool my mom moved into a house once that had 3 pineapple plants hidden in the corner of the backyard, and one day while playing with my dog I noticed a weird looking plant and I was like is that a pineapple. Well of course I went to check it out and there were 3 pineapples that grew and I screamed with excitement and ran and told my mom and siblings. We ate them when they turned yellow. That was the best and juiciest pineapple I ever had thanks to the people who lived there before.
Such a cute story 😊💕

Mines grew after 5 years. That plant taught me how to be patience. So maby times I wanted to burn it and flush the ashes.
Mine took about 5 years as well but I didn't mind because honestly I completely neglected it. It stayed in a small pot outside. Never watered it, never fertilized it. Still it gave me fruit. Very forgiving plant. Waiting for my pineapple to ripen before I can eat it.

Very well made video! I have just started my journey growing pineapples. My aunt gave me one from her organic garden last year. I almost killed it by planting it in my garden, but watching these videos, I realized it was too exposed to the heat.

@@CaliforniaGardening just be careful that it's not the gmo pink pineapples.

Do you eat it every 2/3 years??
I did the same thing with a nice leafy pineapple top. It took a while to take root, then I put it into a 1 gallon pot with some nice loose soil. After almost a year I transplanted the plant into a 5 gallon container and a few months later it started to flower. LONG STORY, after ANOTHER YEAR the pineapple fruit was as large as a cantaloupe. When it turned a nice yellow color and smelled great we harvested it. After a through washing my wife and I ate it SKIN AND ALL, so delicious. After harvest the mother plant has now developed two new heads, so who knows ? Maybe a double harvest in a couple years. Good things come to those who wait. And, yes we live in Sunny So. CAL.
Very nice, I actually didn't know how these were grown before this video LOL I'll stick to my bonsai trees.
imagine if you planted 30 pineapples then many good things would come to those who wait :D
I think that you will find that the second set of fruits aren’t going to grow as big as the first one, but will be ok, but anything after that won’t amount to anything at all. Commercial pineapple plantations usually harvest the first pineapple, then the second ones (which are smaller even in commercial operations) and then they plow the plants under and replant.
So the original plant or mother plant will keep producing fruit?
@BigDogBob I live in the Bay Area I hope mines come out nicely
This was a great video. And the dedication it took to film this video was awesome. I was hoping for the tree to grew in a year, but it took almost 3 years. And you filmed the progress every other month or every few months. Wow. Awesome

It’s already been two months. have you started?
It took 2 yrs and you kept making this video. I have never such step by step progress of a pine before. In fact i have never seen its flowers or don't know nothing about. About 3 months ago, I had cut the top of a pine apple and placed it in flower pot. I had no expectation but its seems to be doing well. I was wondering if I need to transplant it to a bigger container. Your video has answered a lot of my questions. Just out of curiosity, where are you from.? Your accent sounds Indian.
Yes Indian accent
He is from California
That's an unmistakably Indian accent
I don't know if I would have transplanted the pineapple because for such a slow growing plant a constant flow of nutrients is important. So disturbing the roots might slow down growth significantly as the plant has to redirect energy from growing the fruit to re-establishing its root system. Just my thought. Excellent video by him though.
This is interesting, I just collected some seeds from a store bought pineapple and plan on sprouting them !!

My joy is opening a can of pineapple and finding a perfectly ripe, lightly cooked fruit. Even when I cook fresh pineapple, it is not as edible as canned. It's a pity we can't get Hawaiian pineapple anymore.
I'm in the UK (south coast) and I managed to grow two pineapples in my conservatory. All I did was water them now and again, no fertiliser or fuss. I never expected them to fruit, indeed everyone said we can't grow pineapples in the UK. Well, I can tell you, we can ! And they were the best tasting pineapples I've ever had.
