WOW! Makes so much sense now! Pineapples are tropical jungle epiphytes that naturally grow high up in the tops of other trees and are used to getting rain every day in their leaves, not so much from their shallow roots. Here in the desert I have one rooted in water for a year but doing nothing much but grew one new little leaf in the center. Outer leaves are drying out. I put in soil today and will water from the top now that I understand what it needs! Nutrients and top water!! Makes so much sense! Thank you!! :))

Cool video. I found four discarded tops at Costco and got them all to root. Started in a bowl of water with frequent watering in the center and frequent water changes. Once roots appeaed, they were potted. Two had dead centers. Pups are appearing on the sides. The other two have healthy centers.
I know this since I was 8 y/o and instead of twisting the leaves and ripping it off flat with the top, you should cut an inch from the end 'cause the fibers within the pineapple are part of the root system and the ethylene gas coming from the peel will help it grow, also the root system has to be protected with leaves or mulch, until they develop.
Two years is a wait compared to the store, but I'm growing a few just because I think they are pretty plants. If I get a pineapple at some point, that will be a bonus. :)

A GREAT TUTORIAL. I JUST FOLLOWED HIS INSTRUCTIONS AND MY PINEAPPLE IS PLANTED. NOW I JUST MUST REMEMBER TO WATER IN THE CENTER OF THE LEAVES.. THANK YOU.
So, I've watched several videos and read articles on how to grow a pineapple. I knew nothing when I tried to grow my own pineapple in May 2017. My sister told me to cut the pineapple top leaving very little fruit, and then we planted it straight into the ground. I didn't know anything about twisting and pulling the leaf portion off, nor did I know about pulling the leaves off around the bottom, or letting in dry out for a couple of hours. Nor did I know you should pour water down the middle or put a cut apple next to it and cover it with a bag, and I did not use any special type of soil. I simply cut the pineapple, planted in the ground in Southern Alabama, where it went through 2 winters, and was watered by my water sprinkler 2-3 times a week. I did this with 8 pineapples. 2 died, I left 3 in Southern Alabama with a little neighbor girl who helped me plant a few and watched them grow, I uprooted 3 stuck them all in one pot, and we moved to Central East Florida October 2019. In March 2020, I noticed my first pineapple growing. And it is amazing. It's flourishing quite nicely. I'm not saying my way is better, I'm just sharing another way that has been successful. My other two have since been planted in the ground at my sisters house and are growing nicely. They probably have another year before a pineapple starts to grow. Does this take a lot of time? Yes, but it is fun to watch and eat later, when you enjoy growing your own food. We eat lots of pineapples, so we don't think twice about starting a pineapple plant and waiting to reap the benefits of growing our own fruit and the knowledge of knowing what went into it.
I've been growing my pineapple plant as described in the video for over a year it's HUGE had to repot the thing twice....I actually have to repot it again before winter and bring it back inside the house for the fall, winter and spring season, I'm going on year 2.
Ive tried this twice now with no luck. I have finally (3rd times a charm) got it down and its actually staying alive and groeing so slowly. I like in Palm Springs so i think it might be a miracle i have kept it alive this past 7 or 8 months....sa bit over a year since i started trying. Thinking about forcing it to pup instead of waiting for the one 🍍 then having it pup.... i love growing pups so much more ha.

I grew a pineapple plant from a top. After almost five years it produced a pineapple! - it was small but actually edible. I took the top of that one and planted it again. It is now a healthy plant, but i hope I don't have to wait another five years for the next pineapple!!
I used to live next to the dole plantation on Oahu, if anyone is questioning how much direct sunlight these plants need it's quite a bit, 85% of the day probably
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I've have tried many times to do this but the directions I was given by others never worked. I will be doing this tomorrow. Wish me luck.

It takes a long time to get the fruit but the plant is beautiful in the meantime. My wife and I are going to put palm trees in the front yard. Around it will be, among other plants, pineapples. Thanks for the video.
Hi, awesome video! I started to grow a pineapple plant today, I’m planning on keeping it indoor and I was wondering how big should the pot be? I’ve seen a video where a guy said that it should be around 16 inches (40cm) but I only have pots that are 5.5 inches (14cm) so is it okay to plant it in a small pot? Will it influence its growth? And also I don’t have potting soil so is it okay to plant it in regular dirt??
this was quick informative and on point thank you. hope mine didnt sit in the fridge to long looking a little rough but gave it a try anyways. will update in a few days to see if it comes back
HeroInWonderland I think pineapples grown in this way or much smaller than the pineapples you buy in stores... I watched another video he said that they are much smaller but similar in taste 👍🏼
You can grow them in weather down to 40ish and up to 103 but the colder it is the more sour the tast the hotter it can be to sweet so the sweet spot is 80-90 F in terms of weather . So yes they may grow in parts of Europe but the question will be how big and what will they taste like ?
The plant is frost sensitive and needs decent warmth to ripen the fruit, so to grow them out-doors on a commercial scale you need frost-free winters and long, warm summers. The alternative is growing in heated greenhouses or polytunnels. In Victorian England the wealthy would grow pineapples in heated greenhouses, but the heating bill to ensure the greenhouse never got below about 4-5 C must have made them a very expensive fruit!

+jonathan bustos (gta5pro2345) it takes about two years from this process to grow to a mature plant and a few months for the fruit to grow after it blooms. Good luck!
Soo.. I watched this video around 8 months ago, and I looked outside my porch today and someone stole my Pineapple Plant! Like the entire Plant, pot and everything. I got so pissed I started looking around my whole neighborhood for my baby.
@larry ballard Not gonna lie, it's costing me way more to grow one Marijuana plant then to just drive down to the dispensary and buy some. Like it's cool and rewarding and all, but absolutely not cost effective at all.
Taking care of plants is a way to connect with nature. It’s actually pretty therapeutic and generally helps you feel aligned with yourself and the universe around you. It took awhile to figure this out myself and now it makes sense why older people do it so often :P
Obd1andDown I just grow mine in pots with no fancy gear and decent soil. I figured they would die because everyone tried saying I needed to go buy a bunch of shit for them to grow just right, but they’re thriving in my Chinese water dragon cage.
@larry ballard thats excellent.... Even I who was in high school 2004-2008 we still didnt have cell phones (I didnt get mine till 2006) but before that I remember wed talk with friends and agree to meet somewhere at a certain time and you knew they would be there. Man I miss those days of o ly having a house phone. Now a days the younger generations are becoming so useless. They depend so much on their phones. They cant go a day without being on social media (I will admit I check my IG once a day) but theres people who cannot go 5 mins without looking at their phone. But I really liked your comment. I myself am trying to grow tomatos and hot chilli peppers and some basil. My oregano, mint and rosemary plants dried up. Tomatos never grew and now the plant died. The only thing I am able to grow are chilli peppers.
Thanks! I knew it could be done but had no idea how! I'm definitely going to try this the next pineapple I buy. Maybe eventually, I won't have to buy them, I will grow my own! Cool. 🍍

That's great. Thankyou. Will do this as a project with our little ones. Love the jazz music too. It sounds like Steely Dan having a jam. 👍
i just planted 5 slips. very informative video. I hope to get fruits next year
lol it takes 2-3 years
+Qwen Lhjsi these take around 18 months. these were small plants taken from a grown plant
Qwem Lhjsi did you not watch the video? Ugh
Lorlzee no, I wasn't talking to you.. Look at the name
Lorlzee what the update?
Makes so much sense 😁 going to try it out to see if I can get me a pineapple 🍍 tree, plant
Took my friend 3 years to grow a pineapple then a rodent ate it. Edit: My friend actually thought I was the one who took it and blamed it on me
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Kill that rodent!!!🐀🔫
😂😂😂
Then*
One could eat the rodents and double the yield.
Consume the rodent for delicious pineapple rodent protein
I grew a pineapple plant from a top. After almost five years it produced a pineapple! - it was small but actually edible. I took the top of that one and planted it again. It is now a healthy plant, but i hope I don't have to wait another five years for the next pineapple!!
Can't wait for the next video on how to grow a pineapple under two years .
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge
I just have s pineapple and try now
I used to live next to the dole plantation on Oahu, if anyone is questioning how much direct sunlight these plants need it's quite a bit, 85% of the day probably
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I've have tried many times to do this but the directions I was given by others never worked. I will be doing this tomorrow. Wish me luck.
I had full garden of pineapples grown this way...Actually all my pineaples in the garden came from supermarket originally...😉
Your method for starting plants works great should I fertilize my pineapple plants?
should i place in direct sunlight or indirect sunlight?
Under a tree works good. Put it in a pot with dirt and place the pot under the tree. Just avoid walnut trees.
Thanks man! I had started a pineapple in water and soil planted it after it got plenty of roots but I haven’t seen much growth! NOW I know I’ve been watering wrong! XD
I subscribed as soon as I seen the lemon seed video. I'm gonna try it tomorrow so it should be fun
Hi
Did u ever start ur pineapple? If so how is it coming along??
I'm going to try this. Not because I want the future pineapple but because I love plants all over my home.
I've grown avocado plants before from the avacado seed.
For those of you who are making fun of this video.... stop and think about how special it would be to nurse this plant into the fruit it will bare and only for you ! It's like growing a rare plant that only blooms once every 2 years ! A beautiful thing for the right person. Dont complain because it's a slow process, give thanks for being able to do it !

I like the science you provided here, brilliant work, thank you.
My DIY Pineapple Guide: "Take $2 to Walmart. Buy Pineapple. Done."
Buy a good pineapple or grown a sh1t one hahaha
✌️😂✌️
Hahaha I like it
Where the heck do you live to pay just $2 lmao
Luna Nova ok like maybe 3.99
Thanks fo the video right to the point short and easy. It is beautiful as a house plant.
How many times a week should it be watered?
Were you even watching?
Thanks so much for sharing! I'll definitely be giving this a try.
Really cool bro I love all sorts of plants, (obviously my favourite are my weed plants, really pretty but that's a different video), lol. Seriously though I'm going to try the pineapple and Mango plants. Nice one bro peace and love to you from 🏴.
Thanks man. I kept a plant alive for 4 years...no pineapple. Now I know how to make it flower.
Interesting. Can u please upload another video showing us the results of the one that u planted? Thx. And thank u for the information
And also I don’t have potting soil so is it okay to plant it in regular dirt??
this was quick informative and on point thank you. hope mine didnt sit in the fridge to long looking a little rough but gave it a try anyways. will update in a few days to see if it comes back
1. How often do you water the pineapple centre-daily?
2. What position is the pineapple placed whilst growing I.E: in the sun?
Thanks.
Welcome
@@JohnEboyee for what? he asked some questions and you didn't answer but say your welcome? lmfao
i saw this video and did this today ! i was looking for fruit i could grow without a garden and this seemed perfect thank you
In two years, I'll forget I was growing a pineapple and be shocked if one appears
In two years a menopausal person might even forget what they planted to begin with. LOL
I like pineapple.
Good technique.
I going to try that next time I get a pineapple.
Thanks ! I've always wanted to start one, so now I know just how to do it :)
Love the way you keep your videos short but informative, not long and boring.i’ll be following, thanks for sharing
Tried to do this over 65 years ago

So i need an apple to grow a pineapple...interesting
if you get a pen and a pineapple and an apple you got a pineapple apple pen
I think I would rather try an over ripe banana.
a wonderful example of someone who failed at being witty thanks to his lack of comprehension.
@Rose Moore haha! Just what came to my mind :P
@@junogamechanger5278 XD
Cool! How much light does it need? Should I keep it near the window, or does it like more shade?
so if you can grow them everywhere why dont we have local pineapple farms in europe?
will the pineapple in the vid taste less sweet or something?
HeroInWonderland I think pineapples grown in this way or much smaller than the pineapples you buy in stores... I watched another video he said that they are much smaller but similar in taste 👍🏼
@@emsycola5 ahh i see. thank you
You can grow them in weather down to 40ish and up to 103 but the colder it is the more sour the tast the hotter it can be to sweet so the sweet spot is 80-90 F in terms of weather .
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful art. I love your idea. Wicked!! Good on you.

I'm doing a scince fair and I'm doing how long does it take for a pinaple to grow
+jonathan bustos (gta5pro2345) it takes about two years from this process to grow to a mature plant and a few months for the fruit to grow after it blooms. Good luck!
Yo is your plant mature now
Wow. So glad I saw this video first. Ty
It dosen't work
@@soymilky2942 It does, just sometimes not all the time
Soo.. I watched this video around 8 months ago, and I looked outside my porch today and someone stole my Pineapple Plant! Like the entire Plant, pot and everything. I got so pissed I started looking around my whole neighborhood for my baby.
😂😂
OMG :(
hey thanks im growing a pineapple my self and this video helped alot
For a 2 year wait I would have waste more money on the water to feed it than on a new pineapple
Goes to show the hidden cost of our food supply
@A Z 🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣 🤣 🤣
@@oceanblade it is bro. look at your bill. the water portion only. not the extras the greedy county tacks onto it.
@HexagramMan
Depending on your local laws collecting rain water is illegal.
The best pineapple growing music by far.

Thx but I think I’ll just doing a few bucks and go to the store and bypass the 2 years
@larry ballard Not gonna lie, it's costing me way more to grow one Marijuana plant then to just drive down to the dispensary and buy some.
@larry ballard Tomatoes, eggplants and peppers (all fruits of the solanaceae) are dangerous foods, they cause psychosis and depression.
Thanks! I knew it could be done but had no idea how! I'm definitely going to try this the next pineapple I buy. Maybe eventually, I won't have to buy them, I will grow my own! Cool. 🍍
