For people who don’t know when you buy a pineapple at the store you can check the bottom few leaves and pull them off and or look between them to see if there’s roots those are the best ones to start and also you can just twist the top to take it off a lot of websites say to cut off the top but then you’re left with that fruit stuck to it and it’s annoying- you can just twist it it’s much easier!

My daughter bought me a pineapple plant about 2 years ago with the fruit. I am so-oooo enjoying it. I finally cut the fruit off, removed the top, and the mother and top are doing well. I grew the top in water. But when I finally planted it, it started turning yellow/brown. Gave it to my neighbor in hopes she can save it.(She's better with plants than I am)
About 2 months ago I discovered baby on my mother plant! It's growing strong and rather fast. Thanks to you and your video, you showed me how to remove the baby! I hope I can continue to grow the "pup"! What fun!

I'm a home pineapple grower and pretty impressed by your can't help but it Call It Puppy, so small so cute and so flipping enthusiastic about propagation.
The lean is because it's top-heavy. 😁 And those leaves with small teeth that lacerate and hypodermic sharp needle points demand respect.
It'll be really interesting to see what comes of your experiments. I hope it's not rude to call it that. I've been growing pineapples for 20 years and something new always comes along and I experiment. Last year's Harvest was something I've never seen the like of. A baker's dozen shoots Fanning out around the bottom of the fruit. 😆

@@FknNefFy Typically a pineapple fruits in two to three years.
Climate or environment I believe to be the most important factor in my success along with a whole lot of plants. Although it would appear also the individual characteristic of each plant. I get some that never do very well or eventually bear inconsequential fruit planted amongst those that become gigantic monsters with 10 to 12 pound fruits.
As for climate and environment all I can suggest is to duplicate my yard in Hawaii where year-round they receive long hours of full sun with relative 75% humidity and temperature around 85 degrees.
I don't say that to boast, in fact considering it ideal for pineapple sounds like I'm cheating. 😁

I'm at about 9 months of my pineapple top growing. New growth all the time. She is just in regular potting soil but I'm in Florida so she is out year 'round. We covered her on the few chilly days we had, but otherwise, she is in a container and just up on a stand so she stays well drained. She has easily trippled in size from the top. I am so happy that you did a pineapple video. I bought a pineapple plant from a tree nursery two years ago and had no knowledge of pineapple plants. What I have learned so far is that pineapple plants can burn in the sun if you don't harden them first. I live in zone 6 and bring my plant indoors for winter. Last summer I put my plant in direct sun too soon and it burnt. With a lot of TLC 😉, I did bring it back and it is looking good. Hello, there! This is the first video I have seen from you, but I tried to do some digging. I don't know much about gardening, though
I've seen from some gardeners that they use wide necked containers (maybe for air flow?)
I also saw one say that pinnapples like sandy soil because they are a lot like succulents in that they hold water well.
My best suggestion would be to take the one with thinner roots and put it in the same type of plastic cup to see how it takes. Wish you the best with your pineapple growing!

So those shoots at the bottom, can we just leave them there and will grow pinepples right there? Or we need to transplant them in order for those shoots to grow pinapples?
And the plant gives only one pinapple in its lifetime?

I use the tops of pineapples for open terrariums. You pretty much hardly ever water. I make these for people who say, "I always kill plants!" Pineapple tops and snake plants are for these people who have black thumbs. And thanks for the videos. I watch them all!

I just bought 2 pineapples for $18 ea and most nurseries have them for $50 ea. I'm wondering what type of soil they like acidic or Alka? I'm guessing acidic as I've read they prefer moist soil. I grow with compost, worm castings and dry amendments.

I put a couple of tops from store bought pineapples in water a month ago. I just put them in soil 3 days ago. Not sure if I'm seeing new growth yet. 🤞🏻

Thanks for this! I accidentally left my store-bought pineapple plant (Patty) sitting in water 😩 and she started to droop. I quickly removed the water and hoped she would dry out. Then I decided to repot (before watching this DOH!) and used part compost, part cactus soil, part perlite - I transferred her into the new pot, left her unwatered but she’s still droopy … She’s in full sun - does little Patty the Pineapple have hope? 😩

I rescued a pineapple plant from a Walmart garden center today. Poor thing was was drowning in water.🤦‍♀️
Was surprised to find it there since this particular Walmart is called the "ghetto Walmart" because of location.

I started my first one this past summer and barely have any growth is the middle. I found the other day that my soil was way to wet and my roots had molded 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I used some peroxide and attempting to save it. I hope it works!!
My plants name is spongebob 🤣 I have 3 kids so they picked the name lol

I have one i’ve been growing for about 3 or 4 months now from the crown of a store bought pineapple. it’s doing really really well. all i did was plant the plant into some old soil i found in my garage and hoped for the best. the growth in the middle is doing great as well as it’s becoming very spiked lol.

Is it better to trim the pineapple leaves to minimize water loss during rooting? Like how basil or other plant cuttings can’t support many leaves yet and gave to strip down to the top two pairs of leaves?
