One of the best gardening videos I’ve seen. So step by step and easy to understand! Very awesome. Love all your videos!!! I’m going to give this a try.
egg shells don't do much of anything added directly to soil. the calcium won't be bio available for years. If you want to add calcium to the soil. can heat egg shells, or even oyster shells/crab chitin in a firepit (get like a large steel can tomato sauce comes in or big can of peaches) the heat changes the chemical make up of the calcium can then dissolve it in vinegar. and the resulting paste/slurry can dilute with water and have direct available calcium for plants.
Bake the shells (egg or oyster) above 350F -- the fire pit will work fine -- to degrade the protein binding the calcium carbonate in the shell. Then run them through a blender until it is powder to increase the surface area.... The powder will then dissolve many times faster even in water.. Too much heat can change the shells to quicklime though... adding the vinegar causes it to react converting it ro a calcium acetate salt.
@@bringthemesstv I don't know what that is. but basically... just because it's "calcium" doesn't mean it would be bio available for plants. you would want something specifically for plants, or to use a process known to make the calcium uptake for plants.
I live in Vermont and started a pineapple plant from a grocery store crown. 2 years later it is sitting on my porch (summertime only, winter indoors), still not growing a baby pineapple. It takes a ridiculous amount of time here but it makes a fun houseplant.
This is unrealistic vid, klickbait. Because in order for pinaples to actually form you need 2 years of warm uninterrupted weather. Else they'll just be a bush. You "can" technically grow them inside temp controlled climate. But it still takes 2 years from crown to fruit and 1 more year to actually pick the fruit. So like 3 years total.
Did you miss the part where she said it would take years to grow from a cut off fruit top?? She gave 3 ways to grow it and said growing from the shoots produce fruit fastest out of the 3 methods. She also acknowledged that gardening produce requires patience and if you're not willing to wait then it's not something for you (not verbatim). The video shouldn't be considered clickbait, since it disclosed info about growing expectations for yielding crops.
Follow your dreams and keep on growing! Fishing and gardening can be both frustrating and therapudic and definitely an exercise in patience. Love the vids.
🌿 Bringing the plants indoors in cooler climates is such a helpful tip! Your container gardening method is perfect for those of us not in the tropics. Thank you! 🌱🏡
Great video!!!!! I think you can work crowns many ways as I have always stick my crowns straight into the soil after cutting and I have never pull off all the fruit. Thankfully, I have never had one not root, grow and fruit. I have a large pineapple garden along with mango trees, sour sop trees, star fruit, Haas Avocados, Oranges, Myers lemons, lychee tree, jackfruit and many others in Fort Lauderdale. It is nice to see you doing other things besides fishing. All of my crown came from Robert is here fruit stand in Key Largo
Well done! Showing us a good look at the various fledgling plants that are used to grow new pineapples helped alot! I have watched like 8 videos on pineapple growing and this one was the most complete...! Thank you
These videos are awesome. You are very knowledgeable I had no idea all this about pineapples. Make a gardening channel please you are a natural explaining stuff.
I’ve grown pineapples for maybe 4-5 years. Although she said pineapples have a shallow root system I’ve grown some from small to maybe 15-20 gallon containers. I never transplanted them but it seems it’s good for transporting them inside but the bigger the container the more vast the leaves became and much longer and the fruit is bigger in size. I feel I treat them with about the same nutrition but I do feel I maybe add more food to the bigger size containers.
Great video on pineapples and gardening in general Darci. I just started my own garden this year. Also, it was nice meeting you again at the Smith knives stand at iCast this week. I’m the one legged guy that said hello.
I wish I had all year climate like yours. I'm up here in British Columbia, Canada (Zone 8) and I've got my crown at about 1 year now. Slow growing for sure but I'm in no rush! I did start mine from a top, but I cannot wait to get my own slips and suckers to start better plants :) Thanks for the video! It really helps!
This was great advise . Thanks I am in AUSTRALIA . ITS WINTER I went outside and rEscued my plant and brought it inside . I did have it covered with thick clear plastic over night . Ive taken your advise and brought it inside over night.
I am so thankful all of you for this thing that you doing, watching you work and teaching,it is something that inspires others! you are a sweetheart ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are so inspiring ❤ My Mom and I have been trying to grow pineapples but sadly fail because we were doing it all wrong! Thank you for your great guide in growing pineapples. We will definitely have more success now. 😅
Very inspirational ❤️ I have been gardening for a few months and my garden (inside) is flourishing. I love using natural fertilizers and making my own so this was very helpful!
Wonderful video! I have grown 3 pineapple plants, but now I know better methods to grow them. I use eggshells too, but I grind them finely so they can be absorbed better and more easily. I use a micro blender to do that, and my tomatoes thrived because of that. I not only love seeing you fish, but gardening is great, too. Maybe you should have another channel called Darcies Up Scale Gardening. No pun here. I would subscribe right away because I am a 3 F master. Fishing, farming (gardening), and finance. May the Lord keep blessing you and yours, and I sure do love seeing you on RUclips.
I been growing hydro for over 30 years now. I'm going to try and grow a pineapple hydroponically. I picked up lots of useful info from watching your video. Thanks for sharing.
Helluva video Darcy! I always pick the survivors from the compost pile and throw them in a pot and forget about them, but dayum have you got it figured out. I have gained a sudden appreciation for my poor neglected pineapples. There also about 15 other tips in this video that I can apply to every other container plant including the fabric container/riser combo. I always wondered about perlite bit I have a humongous bag so when it’s gone, I will start using pumice. Thank you and keep ‘em coming!
You are spot on with your advice. I harvested my first, replanted, and the cap is the smaller of the three plants I am growing now. I use the North Florida soil here for potting and the plants love it.
I sit all of my crowns from fresh into mason jars started in Master Blend fertilizer zero rot and super amount of root growth ,also leaving one sucker after harvesting will also turn into another pineapple so there are two pineapples per mother plant
Nice video. The best one on pineapples that I've seen, and that after seeing a few from commercial growers. They simply didn't provide as much information, and a lot of their plants didn't look as healthy.. I tried to grow a pineapple a couple of times, but had issues. I think I'll give it another go using the information I gained from this video. Than you so much!
Thanks for the lesson Darcy I had looked up how to grow pineapple in the side I got showed how to prepare the crown but it didn't mention anything about letting it dry out and get that hardness on the bottom where it was cleaned and mine ended up rotting so hopefully I can try again now and I will have success
Killer Video. I was able to hear you and fully understand what and how to successfully do this. Perfect process; especially how you delivered the info. Thank You.
I was in Hawaii in 1969 and 1970.. Up at those pineapple huts, I bought a pack of fresh pineapple, and man was those good, sweet, and juicy, with the juice running down my arms. Nice video that was presented very well.. Good job

You are a freak'n power house! First video I've seen of yours and I can already tell, I wish when I was younger I could have had your energy and pursued stuff the way you do. Well done.
1 part peat, 1 part perlite, 1 part vermiculite, 1 part home made compost also works. Awesome video...I will check out your fishing channel. I want to learn how to fish here in Florida.
I lived in Ewa Beach, Hawaii 3 years and I went on the Dole Pineapple tour & I believe now that I'd rather eat one of your delicate, sweet pineapples Darcizzle ^.~ 😍 🍍 ❣ 🌹
Thank you for sharing this. I buy pineapples at the local store and wondered how to start them. I saw tiny black seeds but your method seems much better.
Commercial growers and most gardeners never grow pineapples from seed. While it can be done, it takes way too long. This is why we use the crowns to grow new plants and the commercial growers use the suckers to generate new crops. Much faster growing methods than from seed.
Thanks Darcie! Great video and very informative. Will definitely apply your advice. First time I’ve seen you. Watching from the other end of our county. Hi from Jupiter Farms 🌴🌞

100 percent correct
Came to add this comment. I add egg shells to my compost heap, but that gets hot for prolonged periods and will break the shells down to calcuim.
Can you just use calcium powder?

Enjoy your show, I’m growing pineapple in Canada on Vancouver island, all my neighbours had palm trees so I went with pineapples.
Did you use the toxic "Miracle Grow" in your soil too?
How do you protect them from the frost? Every year I try, that first cold night catches me off guard and kills my plant.
