This video was SOOOO helpful! I was thinking I could just stick the crown, with that little bit of fruit on the bottom right into soil. I was surprised how much fruit and leaves you actually removed. I knew a video would be much clearer than just written instructions. Thank you for helping me to avoid the pitfalls I would have encountered if I'd planted the crown the way I THOUGHT I was supposed to.
I actually grew some pineapple from seeds. It took a long time but they're doing great! Last fall I started and now they're about the size of a top. Dark green and full.
@@stephenremo9200 What I did is put them in water on a heat mat under grow lights in about a few weeks to a month they will sprout in the water. Then transfer to where you're going to plant them.
I'm going to give this a try. I've been able to grow two pineapples by planting the entire cut off top including an inch of the fruit. Most always died and now I know why. Thanks!

About another month until they are store sized! I also planted a few more pineapples. This is absolutely the best way to do by peeling it down, putting it in water, growing roots, then planting it. 100% success so far and two big pineapples on the way in about another 4 weeks.

Look if you can pull out one of the leaves. When you can, your top is not viable. Sometimes the sellers sell it with the heart cut out. These are better to avoid due to having a big chance to rot, but they are possibly viable. 0:30 i think the hearth of that top is cut out. That explains why there is coming a little shoot later on. Great video, because he shows how to grow them this way, since there are almost only this kind of tops. Very bad from the farmers. They can't stop us. For the people who have a intact pineapple top: do the same he does, but don't take all the leaves off.

It's sooooo much easier than the video I posted last summer. Just make sure the soaking bulb stays warm... 85F+. These guys are tropical and won't send out roots if kept too cold! You got this! :)

Bigger parts of the stem are better than thinner parts.
Great question! I hope to visit a pineapple plantation this coming winter! They are mostly propagated from runners (like strawberries) and slips (tiny offshoots near the base). I don't think commercially they harvest the tops.

That all depends on where you live. If you live near the equator, you can likely grow pineapple year-round. For me, I can only leave my pineapple plants outside for maybe 3-4 months in the summer, then they have to come indoors.

Hi, thanks for watching! Yes, I actually have to bring the plants in during the winter....they are totally tropical and I don't live in a warm area. As for watering, I always water bare soil from below for 2 reasons. 1) the soil can soak up as much as it needs without leeching out the bottom before it can be absorbed fully and 2) watering from above blasts soil everywhere! Not good for a newly potted plant! Happy growing!
About 2 years. But worth it because it is almost effortless. When we lived in S. Florida, we planted all of our pineapple tops and after 2 years we never had to buy another one. We had those suckers growing everywhere! (Also counted as free landscaping, lol!!) When we sold our house I think we got a little more $$ because buyers were thrilled to have this ready resource!
Well it depends on how well you care it. If you take good care of it, it should flower in 2 to 3 years. If you don't take good care of it, it can be 4 to 5 years, but remember that every plant doesn't trive well if you don't repot it. If you never repot it, it can take up many years if you have a lot of luck, but it should never flower.

Not often. Maybe once a week, but it really depends on climate, soil type, and other environmental conditions. There's no one universal watering schedule...

Yes, straight to soil definitely works if your climate allows. Keep it warm and moist and lots of indirect light

I try to change the water every 3-4 days. Usually takes the plants a couple years to get large enough to produce. 1-3 pineapples per plant.

you dont need to root them in water. peel the leaves back about 3 in. and stick it in potting soil and water it. nature will do the rest.

They are tropical.... Sheltered inside until you get roots will work, they outside once they start growing

It takes a few weeks for the roots to start. I used a root starter and changed the water every third day.

That's right Richard, with this one, strip nearly all the leaves off, exposing the stem and those roots just sprout out from everywhere!

You don't Esther. These are tropical fruit plants...they gotta come inside if your area gets at all remotely cold!
Once the pineapple grows will it have another stalk and can your re-plant the ones you grew?

You can easily twist the top right off and wont have to cut anything off, then peel the leaves back. 😁

Takes a while Amalia. But in the meantime, you get a cool houseplant and conversation piece!

If you don't take good care of it, it can be 4 to 5 years, but remember that every plant doesn't trive well if you don't repot it. If you never repot it, it can take up many years if you have a lot of luck, but it should never flower.
@@TourPace a good way to know if your plant is very strong: the existing leaves get longer from the place where it is attached to the plant. Tip: you can see the sanity of the plant by inspecting the leaves. If they are small, the plant is a little bit weaker, but if the new parts of the leaves get bigger, it gets stronger. Leaves generated in the winter are thinner than leaves generated in the summer. By some plants (again including pineapple) you can see it by watching the stem. Bigger parts of the stem are better than thinner parts.

Not often. Maybe once a week, but it really depends on climate, soil type, and other environmental conditions. There's no one universal watering schedule...
