So sad Emmy lost her equipment, but making videos like this for the time being is such a good idea tho! Keeps the engagement going, introduces people to your old content as well as what you’ve tried before, and a good 30 minute Emmy video is always welcomed!!

A fruit episode! I love these (and the intro fruity fruity frooooouuuuiiityyyy song) 😊
Edit: Here's a tip to make Durian a bit more palatable (and reduce the smell quite a bit): Spray the flesh with lemon juice and let the spray dry out over 20-30 minutes. It will still smell but it won't have the same kick and for some reason it also makes the Durian taste sweeter. This tip I learnt from an elderly neighbor from Laos who first introduced me to Durian. There's also a genetically engineered variety that supposedly has no smell called Chantaburi (or Chantenburi I can't remember the actual spelling).

    • @AlexisLaFury
      @AlexisLaFury 4 месяца назад +11

You’re right,It’s Chanthaburi, the town in Thailand where the scientist developed the variety. Which actually has a smell, nutty/sweet pleasant smell. No smell thing was used to gain interest. I lived in Thailand for a few years and never developed the taste for durian.

I grew up in the tropics and I would love to see you try (if you haven't already):
Breadfruit. It's starchy and savory. My fav way to eat is cubed and fried until soft enough to flatten into disks and fried again until golden brown. Salt and garlic to taste. ( you can make a dipping sauce with equal parts mayo and ketchup and a little freah garlic)
Soursop. It's spikey. With a sweet mushy white pulp. Has small seeds inside kinda like watermelon.
Bittermelon_ cundeamor. Tiny little orange things that grow on vines. You eat the insides. It is full of red seeds. You eat the flesh off the seeds. Kinda like a tiny version of the gak fruit in your video.
Spanish limes/mamoncillo/quenepas: the come in clusters kinda like grapes. Firm skin. Large pit in the middle. You eat the pulp off the pit. Somewhat sweet and ... tart? Im terrible at describing flavours 😅
I miss all of these. Havent had them in forever.

The durian has been so negatively hyped for clickbait that it’s hard to find an objective review. I totally get why some might not like it. It’s intense but it doesn’t smell like garbage or excrement (it wouldn’t be so popular if it did). It’s more like she said, the unfamiliar marriage of seemingly incompatible flavors. Of course whenever there is sulphur involved there will be some memorable scents (think eggs, onions) but usually if people get past the oddness they end up as total addicts. 😜

I once went to a Thai restaurant that had durian milkshakes on the menu. I asked the waitress if I could just try the durian since I'd probably never get to travel to Asia. She said it has to stay frozen because of the smell which is why they only serve it as a milkshake. So I ordered a milkshake and will never forget the smell. That's how it tastes for you. Its not the same for everyone. Some think Durian smells great and for others, they think it smells awful. It's the same way with the taste. Some people think it tastes sweet with no onion/garlic flavor and others only get the onion/garlic flavor. This is with it fresh or frozen. It just all depends on the person.

the taste reminds me of sugary sweet cream cheese with tons of caramelized onions. Probably explains why some Thai desserts use fried shallots as a topping.

You should eat the durian frozen. It's like ice cream. It's also less smelly when frozen.

A fruit episode! I love these (and the intro fruity fruity frooooouuuuiiityyyy song)

These videos are from ages ago made into a compilation so she likely won’t see or care to check this. It’s unfortunate.
But that’s an interesting tip. I’ll bear it in mind myself as I would love to try it!

It seems like those were old videos put together into a new one. I doubt there are any seeds left.

You can eat Durian when it's slightly ripe, it is firmer that way. Less mushy.

Have you tried durian cookies and ice cream? About 30 years ago I took a job in West Java, Indonesia, and when I couldn't get durians in season (it's a short one) I could get durians in various other ways, my favorites being ice cream and cookies. If you get the durian cream wafers be careful about putting them in your car trunk on hot days. The odor will take at least a year to dissipate.

You need to try kiwi berries. They look very similar to those mini water melon looking fruits but inside is just like a normal kiwi fruit but sweeter
