Natick Industries, the company in charge of developing US MREs, actually has a program where people can help. It's a month long program and you get paid to eat MREs(no MCWs, TOTMs, etc.). I know it was an honest mistake on her part but for those strictly civilian viewers, MREs DO NOT come packaged in retort pouches. The components do. European rations tend to use commercial components a lot more often than US and UK rations, though UK rations will include them also. I've always been disappointed that US rations have not included more drink mixes, especially considering the fact that in some theaters of Operation, you're REQUIRED to drink up to 8 liters of water a day. Drinking plain water gets to be a chore.

@@kevinmoore2929 As a conscript almost all of the "MREs" I had (in Finland) were civilian stuff made for campers, keep it simple stupid I guess? No, she makes money making these videos, but, they don’t necessarily make her rich! That’s something people assume and, they assume companies pay them, nope, not unless if that company sponsors them and, that again doesn’t necessarily means she’ll make ton from that company! There are a lot of variables, which is based on subs, viewers, popularity and, then, there’s the commercials and people going to them sites! Don’t base something on something you think you know unless you know all the variables! And, I don’t watch RUclips based on a baseless comment like yours!

The Diamond with a letter Y in it is the Air Transport Limited Quantity Mark for hazardous goods and is related to the 1.2 meter drop test for air transport. I imagine they are required to use the mark because of the cans.

It is the limited quantity symbol for hazardous goods but its not related to a drop test. It's because with certain MREs they have little envelopes you put in their packets and when you fill it with water it causes a chemical reaction which heats the water so you can boil your food packs. That chemical reaction is what deems the product hazardous for transportation but since the amount of the chemical present in the box being shipped is negligible in terms of how dangerous it it is to be flown on a plane, it's considered "limited quantity" and therefore can bypass a lot of the annoying restrictions to ship it with carriers, like UPS, FEDEX, ETC.
Shipping things like laptops and cell phones, which use lithium ion batteries and are class 9 hazardous materials, can also bypass restrictions if the "quantity" is limited.

When I was in my mid-teens, my dad used to take me hunting at Fort Benning in Georgia. The fort would open up the areas where they held their war games to veterans for hunting when the war games weren't going on. Naturally, the soldiers would eat MREs during these maneuvers. During our hunting trips, we'd often find the stuff they'd leave behind, so I got to sample those MREs. I thought they tasted pretty good. Later, as an adult, I bought some for myself. I still enjoyed them.

I did my first hitch (US Airforce) in 1976-1980, my second hitch (US Navy) in 1980-1986, had the old C-rats a few times. Didn't get to try MREs until later in the 1990s as a civilian. I occasionally used them on motorcycle roadtrips and camping trips. I carried GI Surplus canteens, cups and stove in pouches on my bike. Worked very well. 😊

I was in the U.S. Army from 1998-2006 and had plenty of MREs during that time. Other than a few really nasty ones, I didn't find them to be that bad. Back then if you got the vegetarian MREs, you had all the awesome candy and the snacks on the side were the best. I mean when you're in the field and hungry, you're not all that picky.

Like 10 boxes at a time lol.
He'd let us grab one and we would fill our water canteens and head out all day to play. My mom got a little mad once she found out there were cigarettes in some 😅
They were tins mostly my favorite was the chicken Ala king. Who knows how old they were. We did find a few that were bad but not too often.

@@Emeraldwitch30 Those sounded old in the 70s cigarettes and all. What kinda candy - dessert ?

I actually love the texture of slow-cooked green beans. I cook them witn tomato and garlic and they are just so unctuous alongside a roast beef or pot roast.
I get how MRE ones would have a tinned flavor though.

A lot of time reading about World War II and watching World War II videos so I thought I’d take a break and watch your video and it’s about ration packs

I love you videos , you have amazing, natural grace. It's a great idea to make a ranking. You are the first reviewers known to me to make it. I feel honoured that the ration from my country got #1 :)

Emmymade, if you respond to comments, do your kiddos try the MRE’s, too? I wondered what they would think. It would be amazing to have tat experience as a child. Thank you for all your videos. I get so excited to see when a new one is posted. ❤️

If you can’t bite into the cracker, you will damage your dental work (caps, veneers, crowns, fillings). Instead, break a piece with a hammer or a rock. Or stamp on it with the wrapper on (or wrap a cloth or plastic wrap). To eat the pieces or crumbs, soak it in the gravy or in a cup of water! When it absorbs liquid, you squeeze out excess, or not. It is safe to eat when it’s spongy. The dry original form is to keep it from getting moldy or stale. If the pieces are still hard, let it dissolve in your soup or stew, or in your mouth.

USA 1990s Omelette with Ham, Chicken ala King, BBQ Pork with Rice, Potatoes au Gratin. I would take the ham slice from the omelette MRE and make a ham sandwich with MRE bread. Who remembers those little sawdust bars which were delicious 😋 I haven't eaten an MRE since the 1990s, the novelty wore off while I was in the USMC 😂
