I once ate a whole roll of Musk Life Savers and then was very sick (I was a greedy kid). I don't think I ever quite got over that. I do, however LOVE Slate (Aniseed) sticks - the grey ones that you can lick until they are as sharp as a pencil

    • @Holdmymawashi
      @Holdmymawashi 3 года назад +1

@@Rekeaki you can make them DIY if you’re brave! This is the recipe from Frankie Magazine’s “sweet treats” cookbook. It’s just 500g icing sugar, 1 tsp glucose syrup, 1tsp gelatine and 1-2 tsp flavouring essence (If you don’t like musk you can use any other that you like) and a few drops food dye. You heat the glucose syrup and gelatine with 1/3 cup water until the gelatine dissolves then off the heat, beat in the icing sugar in three goes until smooth and use a star piping bag to pipe lines then leave to dry for a day. Or maybe Amazon deliver musk sticks from Oz!?

Hi Emmy. I’m a new subscriber, and I absolutely love your content. As an Aussie, I can tell you that fairy bread is amazing. It is made with white bread, untoasted with butter and the hundreds and thousands sprinkles, and cut into either squares or triangles, though almost always triangles. In my house we use Jaffas for Rudolph cupcake noses at Christmas, they’re a family favourite. Salted caramel Tim tams are the only ones I eat, I’m so un-australian in that I don’t love Tim tams. I like musk sticks, but I always preferred the fruit-flavoured sticks instead. We have Twix here too, not really anything like a boost, but I appreciate you trying 😂 does anyone remember Furry Friends having pictures on them ages ago or is that just me?
Now fairy bread, is my absolute favourite. It should honestly be a food group. I think I enjoy eating it more than any kid I’ve ever met. Works great with wholemeal bread too, but the best kind is super soft white bread (wonder bread or tip top here in Australia), real butter and sprinkles. I prefer the long cupcake sprinkles because hundreds &thousands are too hard for my adult teeth now 😂

In Australia, we pretty much use biscuits and cookies interchangeably (there's enough US influence to make cookies normal as well, like the Cookie Monster). But I think what you call biscuits (that you have with gravy) is more of a scone for us (scone with jam and cream).

In the UK cookie is reserved for the often soft and chewy chocolate or choc chip cookie, everything else is a biscuit or named specifically e.g. shortbread but you may still hear that called a shortbread biscuit. US biscuits are delicious, I would refer to those as savoury buttermilk scones.

Musk sticks: no one really gets them outside of Aus, don't feel bad.
Shapes: am sure you tried them before but BBQ, Pizza or crimpy chicken. They are the quintessential favourites of every 80's/90's kid.
Jaffas: Great for sulking on while sitting in a movie theatre right up the front, then throwing back into the crowd 😊
Tim tams: everyone knows them ( and it's pronounced are nets here. Shame on them for using the Kensington Pride mango ( fancy name for common mango) and not the Bowen mango!!! So much better !
Eucalyptus Drops: So good! Many childhood memories!
Macadamia nuts: again, so good! Many memories of cracking these on a Sunday morning at Nana's house. Can't say how many times almost broke a thumb with a hammer trying to get the deliciousness out of the shell.
Hundreds and thousands: 80's throwback of awesomeness. But the fairy bread version always wins out!
Boost: unpopular but has a dedicated following. Twix is way better(imo)
Furry friends: again a great throwback to Aussie chocolate history. Been around for quite a few decades. Great choice.

This is very cool because I'm also a subscriber of Ann's too. Her historical recipe recreations are wonderful to watch. You do a similar thing with your content as well so this is delightful to watch.

I love when I’m subscribed to people that collab with Anne, love both of you! I love the Mango and cream timtams! In Australia we say Arnets, I must say I slam with hot milk too!
We call most biscuits, but we also called cookies cookies (the round ones with chocolate chips or whatever)

Nestle makes a Caramac candy bar but it is only sold in Germany. I love it.

Aussie here, we call the eucalyptus candies "lypties" (pronounced lip-tees) childhood classic!
Fairy bread is always fresh soft white bread (not toast!), sometimes with the crusts cut off, buttered and topped with hundreds and thousands.
I'm also not a fan of musk sticks, but a lot of people really like them.

Every poor child knows those eucalyptus drops well. When you only have a couple cents at the canteen and you're super hungry you get a bag of these

My mum always had the eucalyptus drops, butter menthols and those no name sticky hard boiled lollies, by choice. I can only stomach them when I’m sick.
