That's a fair assessment of Mississippi, a lot more culture than you were expecting, but the problems you'd think be there, are still there
so...they all got famous to get out of mississippi? Buffet lives in florida and long island, Elvis residence is in Tennessee, Henson and J.E.Jones live/d in NY, Rick Ross in Georgia, Cooke was raised in chicago and died in CA, Brittney and Oprah live in CA.
It seems like all the culture from Mississippi all leave Mississippi because they realize Mississippi is Mississippi.
My family’s theory is that the talented people get famous because they apply their skills at any risk to get out of Mississippi.

Mississippi, I'm not joking, was hilarously fun to say when i was a small child. I have no idea why but I loved saying it and would just randomly whisper "Mississippi" for fun and start cackling
I still do that for words like "spork" and "spoodle".
I especially loved spelling it out as a kid.

When my son was about a year old, you could just say “anemone”, and he’d crack up.
As a Mississippian, you nailed this one. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Side note: some of us know that God isn’t exactly the right answer. Someone very wise once told me that God helps those that help themselves. When you want something or you’re looking for answers to unanswerable questions, FIRST you do literally everything you can do personally, THEN it’s time to pray.
Yep. It's kinda like that joke about the person who kept praying, "Dear God, please let me win the lottery!" week after week after week, and every week they didn't win. Finally, one day as they're once again making their plea, "Dear God, _please_ let me win the lottery!" a voice from above thunders down and says to them...

Coastal Native here, and thank you for this! I've been waiting for this. The state has a lot of problems, but there are a lot of good people here who will do anything possible to help their neighbor. I thank you for taking some time to highlight the good parts, and not just treat us like a punchline like I see elsewhere. Great video like always!

Well if they are using Mississippi as as a punch line then the joke is wrong. Alabama is always the correct answer to the butt of any joke....unless of course Florida Man was there first.
I grew up in the delta and the next town over was Leland I spent too much Tim in the Jim Henson museum and I agree Mississippi does have a lot of fun and interesting culture.

We are a Punchline! Tater is a punchline. Jackson being our Capitol and needing help from our idiot Governor is something to cry about though. This period need Actual help. Screw heritage, how about we actually treat people right for once (and get rid of like 90% of the people in charge right now. )

As someone not from Mi but know alot about political climates of big cities this is true comparitively to the rest of the state it is very different but its not as progressive as Austin from what ive seen still ALOT more progressive then the rest of the state but since its average income is lower then austin by alot it doesnt have as much of an educated populus so that means alot more of them wont be as progressive
I'd argue Hattiesburg is more like Austin than Jackson...

Knew it was gonna be good the moment it said Missippi. Lived here my whole life, and the state government and city governments are all shit. But most of the folks are decent and don't deserve what's going on.
The state has ghosts, my way of saying we've got a long sordid history where a lot of beauty was born out of a lot of pain. Despite everything we keep trying.
There's always something cool if you know where to look.
As a Jackson native, we get a lot of hate from other, lets face it, SUUUPER white flight areas surrounding us like. Most namely is Madison, a brick snorefest where the only thing good is the movie theatre. Compared to Jackson where we have all the good music, food, and art. Jackson has 160k people and 80% are black. Not gonna lie, them calling us nicknames like Jafrica says more about them than it does us especially when so many of them work here.
Recent problems are because our pipes are decades old and the state could have stepped in at any point before now, run investigations on the local government to see what the holdup is, anything. But no, its the majority Democrat and black city in the state, so we get left out to dry.
Ben if you ever wanna do a followup, look up the DHS welfare fraud scandal and give the current and former governors, and Brett Favre, some hell.

As a lifelong resident who grew up on the coast, college in the north and taught in critical needs schools in the north and the south and now lives on the coast, I loved this! We’re tired of being treated like a joke for sure.

Thank you for sharing many of the good things about my state. May no mistake…there is plenty of negative stuff to say as well. But I think through this comedic but truth filled series we’ve learned that every state has negative aspects…especially lately.
Born Vicksburg native here. You are spot on with the fact that most people don't know about our cultural contributions. I wish the state did more for spreading the culture and improving our internal infrastructure. A lot of our financial issues would be solved with revamping the state government and bringing more tourism to the state. The funds from tourism alone could fix our infrastructure. But noooo, too many corrupt officials in office.
Finally added my state. Would've loved some fun at MSU and Ole Miss' expense. Glad you mentioned the Grammy Museum! Also, Johnny Cash got locked up for drunkenly picking wildflowers here and wrote a song about it.

I was about to say the same thing, but then I realized that the state specific videos don't really cover current events. I think the Jackson joke was more about Jackson being an awful place in general. The water crisis might make it to the Friday video though.
The Jackson water crisis ? Try Mississippi Water Crisis. States water treatment system haven't been up to date since the 60's. If a severe storm pops the system goes down. It's the same here in Vicksburg.

We really have a beautiful state and great food like CB’s Jamaican restaurant in ocean springs. I’ve known people that would drive from Vicksburg just to get his ox tail.
We'd love to have you I'd suggest stick to mostly college towns usually good towns good food too if you just rock up to a random small town it's usually hit or miss just be sure to avoid us in hurricane season as it usually is quite dangerous and very hot and humid then but any other time cheers hope to see ya

Born in GA raised in FL raised my kids in Bama now a MS transplant living on the Coast in 2012 an observation I made is that the people here are some of the nicest I’ve met. Y’all should visit during the first part of October. Busiest week of the year on the Coast. Called Cruisin the Coast it’s an antique car show that spans the entire Coast and displays some of the most beautiful old vehicles you’ve ever seen ! Just don’t get on Hwy 90 during the week if you’re in a hurry cuz you’ll be late !

Edit: As a Mississippian, I can agree with just about everything he said, except the vaccine. I want to say that about 40-50% of us are vaccinated mostly cause so many of us live with nurses.
thats not alot almost 70% of my state (KY) is fully vaxed

Being born in Mississippi, and visiting yearly, It has a ton of culture. People there are really friendly and it's a pretty cool experience, if you know where to look. Of course there are bad places there, but every state has it's Muskogee.

Yaaay finally the state I was born and raised in. I live in Texas now and saw it enough. Also every part of Mississippi is different and there’s a lot more to the state than people realize and yes, Jackson really needs help
