+Th _ I was actually tempted to make another video for this series that was going to figure out the "objectively" best buddy. The conclusion I came too though is all the buddies are essentially tools in your toolbox. They all create their own unique gameplay scenarios so putting one buddy over another sort of seemed short sighted. There is a lot of mechanical freedom in TPP and all the buddies tap into that freedom in their own special way.

You don't even need to do that much. Just find a chest-high wall, crouch, call in the boxes, and then play Jack(heh)-in-the-Box until the box lands. Laughably easy.

@@hanz2904 To my knowledge, the parasites lodge in her throats to "form a mating pair" (as Code Talker said) but they stay inactive until the host speaks a certain language (in Quiet's case, English), which triggers the parasites to reproduce at a massive rate and merely breathing would spread it.
During the inactive phase (such as Quiet), I suppose kissing or having sexual intercourse with her will NOT pass on the parasite. Of course, this all changed when the 2nd outbreak happened, the radiation leak mutated the parasites to bypass the language rule and she deemed it unsafe for DD army for her to stay on MB.

Something that I see very few people commenting on -- Quiet is extremely valuable in ay mission against the Skulls. On Extreme difficulty, she will remove the armor off even the most heavily defended skulls in two shots of Sinful Butterfly, and if I remember correctly that third shot will wipe out their entire health bar. For a mission like Metallic Archaea, where Snake will be killed sometimes before he can even fight back, the entire mission can be completed by hiding on rooftops while Quiet rapidly picks off the skulls. She tears them apart.
Long Dong Silver The Bold You've got a point. The bosses do seem to go under the radar when buddies are being discussed. I wonder if that's they're just so underwhelming. There's no real mix up in terms of gameplay. Your just fighting bullet sponges rather than the normal enemies.
Long Dong Silver The Bold, on the last skulls boss I ran out of ammo and she ended up taking out the remaining armoured skulls With about 4 shots. I ended up using everything, C4's mines you name it. I grabbed code talker and ran over a mine. He died.
Gonna have to try that at some point. I just used D-walker to shred them to bits with a quick tactical reinsertion when running out of bullets.

Three weeks later, can confirm that Quiet lays the skulls the fuck out, both on normal and extreme.

I thought it would have been really cool if Quiet started as just 'Quiet', but eventually becomes D-Quiet as her loyalty to Big Medic and Mother base grows.
Carlitonsp1 To be honest the thing I hoped for the most when it came to the buddies was having a Diamond Dogs recruit act as a buddy. Take one of them under your wing and boost their stats while training in the field.
That would have been cool as well, but managing a human soldier capable of as many actions as you are sounds much more complicated than the 3 voice command max system they have most of the time.
I also wish all the buddies had exclusive missions where they got story and character, and even the ability to play as them. Quiet's powers seem like they would have been really cool in that situation.
Carlitonsp1 Oh, definitely. If a recruit COULD come along there would have to be some sort of gimmick to it like all the other buddies, probably something like "snake in" from Peace Walker. Playing AS the buddies though would have been a neat way to get online co op into the game. Getting a friend to play as D-Horse would be hilarious!

anderson The storage shed missions don’t affect your AO, if you notice you can destroy storage sheds all over the planet.
If you want to make them stop wearing helmet you need to stop headshotting them and instead knife kill them and eventually they’ll adapt.
But what you should do is upgrade your weapons so that they penetrate helmets and armor.
@anderson I think it's only for 1 area. And, I think it's for 5 in-game days
anderson You need to complete a side op to get a suppressor on that weapon, alongside all the other high penetration weapons but it’s possible. There’s a high penetration sniper rifle, high penetration AR and handgun.
Snake failed to put the D in Quiet. It is concerning how he managed to conquer his other battle buddies.

I didn't use quiet as much, I found her to be more of a hassle using her on mission.
I tried to perfect stealth my way in there, before I saw that there was an unused enemy tank just sitting in the courtyard. I thought they wouldn't notice me if I got it and drove it to the objective, but that didn't work. So I just bulldozed them through the end lol

Also, what if you find an Outpost full of specialists, but Quiet slaughters them all without telling her too? That's the only thing keeping me away from using her as a buddy all the time. I just don't want to find a soldier that has a bunch of A++ and S ranks then when I get to him Quiet introduces his face to a sniper bullet
Edit: I used Quiet and she's fucking amazing. I didn't realize she has a tranquilizer rifle two weeks ago and i already have 100% bond but you only need 40% for the tranq rifle, and the upgraded version comes with a suppressor. New verdict, essentially a less useful D-Dog but isnt a bullet magnet like DD
You can equip the tranquilizer sniper rifle to avoid things like that, and if you want to switch release with rifle all you have to do is change her weapon via the idroid.

One of the first times I used Quiet I saw a soldier with a A++ stat and, this being relatively early game, I was excited. He had a buddy with him though, and when I was trying to aim at the elite, the buddy looked at me and triggered reflex, so Quiet took him out. This was cool and everything, but at this point in time, Quiet had no suppressor, so the Elite started looking around, saw me, triggered reflex again, and I got to watch in slow motion while Quiet killed the highest stat soldier I had seen on the field.

On the missions "Traitor's Caravan" and "Metallic Archea", equip quiet with the sinful butterfly and hide from the skulls. 1 headshot with the sinful butterfly takes out half of a skull's health. all you need to do is let her take them out, and then extract as many as you can. easy S rank.

I like to use the "Take Aim" command in conjunction with my own weapon. Quiet fires a split second after you do, allowing you to tag team enemies with helmets. I fire the first shot, knocking off the helmet, and Quiet's round puts them down for the count.
I've never thought of doing this

you forgot one small detail, when Quiet is engaging the enemy and is moving to a new sniping point, along the way she will through stun grenades and stun enemies. Fantastic Video!
Mauricio Ruiz - No way! I didn't know that. She's never done that for me. Do you know if it depends on her loadout what kind of grenade she uses? So if she has a lethal rifle equipped, will she use frag grenades, or is it always stun grenades?
I am pretty certain she does not drop grenades, she just knocks out enemies on her way with sheer speed.

That's nice. She's my favourite buddy and charachter in Mgsv. Just because she can infiltrate outpost with you, and that She has an interesting story. Great equipment too.

Quiet is very useful in my opinion, one nice thing that if you are spotted and she isn’t watching over you, then she immediately rushes over to protect you, it’s very useful in the mission “Skull Face” because she is able to distract them while you sneak by, I couldn’t do it without her. True companion.

Replaying this game again. Idc what ppl say. The nostalgia from peace walker, paz. Everything. It was a master piece. Quiet didn't die in the desert. She lives on.

Me: speedruns the first half of chapter 1 to get Quiet, wait until she gets to be my buddy, deploys with her throughout the rest of the game, defeats the giant robot and Skull Face, finishes a number of missions until I reached the mission Extraordinary, change into Naked Snake, wait until the rain comes, returns to Mother Base with Quiet, then trigger my favorite cutscene.
Two things you didn't mention. One, Quiet automatically relocates to your position if you initiate combat and will also go into cover me mode if you got it unlocked, but from what I have seen she will automatically shoot anyone who is fighting with you anyways, so you can tell her to scout an outpost far away and still hunker down while she rushes to defend you if you get spotted, and two, and this is more of a funny thing, she sorta stomps every time she leaps and any guard near her when she does will get knocked out.
For anybody still playing this in 2022, just know that Quiet is excellent for splitting up the work, but you won’t be allowed to Fulton any Skulls that you don’t individually take down. I’m not sure if it’s based on final shot or damage dealt yet, but something to pay attention to if you want to capture them.
If I remember correctly. Turning on quiets theme on the idroid can steady you're aiming at long-range sights. Useful if you want to shoot at long distance and you don't have the special pill for accuracy
Seriously, thank you for this guide. I didn't realize you could give commands through the i-Droid and was basically abandoning her as soon as I moved around a hill. Also didn't realize the function of the ricochet action, the examples were beautiful.
When she zips from one sniping spot to another if there’s any enemies in her path she will run over and kill them unless they are the armoured guards then she’ll temporarily stun them.
she can also stun enemies when moving through a base for recon the timing has to be perfect though

For anyone playing this game for the first time 1:30 you can get her back now, it was added in as a feature. IIRC you just replay the mission again and you can get her if you make a different choice
I really like having Quiet as buddy. Good for scouting enemies, as well as taking them out. Her stun/sleep gun can be useful in certain missions. Including fights with the Skulls. But she can get hurt and removed from the map if you are too Rambo about using her. Though when I need the best scouting of nearby things, I turn to D-Dog. Woof woof!
I always order her to relocate if she gets spotted or if the enemy starts blindly shooting in her direction. If i was using her 50 cal rifle i would have her take a shot or two and then move.
I really appreciate the visual examples in this video, I learned some mechanics I never even knew buddies could do in the game
I always called the activity of using Quiet as my partner as "shopping", cuz she'll pretty much clear outposts all by herself and all I gotta do is walk around and check on sleeping enemies to see whether or not they're worth nabbing. 🤣
But truly a great partner though, one of the best NPC partner I've ever had, her and DD both.
after some playing around with quiet's scouting i can actually tell you that if you tell her to scout something on the other side of the map. and then run there yourself. as you approach that load distance. a certain percentage of assets will be pre-marked, side a building or not. this percentage seems to be based on the ammount of time since she arrived at the base and when the base was actually loaded. once the base is actually loaded. watching her on the I-droid will show you where she's at.
initally when she scouts somewhere. she'll do a huge circle around the logo of the base afterwards, if the player enters, or is already in, a certain range of that center point (about 200 meters or so) then she'll automatically stop and go to a sniping point nearby. however if the player remains outside of that 200 meters. she'll just move around inside that bigger circle she just made seemingly at random. marking all things she sees. this is worth noting because if she gets LOS to an enemy he's permanently marked. so if the building she's scouting has windows theres a solid chance she'll see him just out of sheer luck and mark him. if you dont load in the base before she has completed her first initial huge circle. when you do load in the base she will have left supplies for you that are pre-marked, usually on vantage points overlooking the base with an entrance nearby.
long story short. the longer you give quiet to scout a base. the better she'll do. if your planning on going across the map. or even just when you've just finished up taking care of a base. send quiet to go scout the next place your going before you even leave. quiet's marking of around 70% of the enemies combined with the vantage points she shows you and the intel team's "Field Of Movement" system lets you get everyone marked really easily and quickly. its a little bit more effort than D-Dog but her combat potential and free supply drops are too good to pass up.
that and im a generic white male who likes having a half naked female companion that also happens to be a complete fucking badass.

You know, it's ironic her name is Quiet, because on missions she never shuts up humming because she swaps targets every 2 seconds like she has ADHD
I doubt anyone doesn't already know this but if you suddenly enter combat at any point, Quiet will B-Line it right to the nearest sniping position to start covering for you no matter how far she is. I've had this happen when I had her scout Spugmay Keep (bottom of Afghanistan map) for a prisoner extraction side op I was going to do after the current one I was wrapping up. I made a mistake on my exfil in the Central Base camp (top of the map) and set the whole thing into combat. Quiet showed up in about 10 seconds to provide cover for me. That's 4k meters in 10 seconds.
I still love DD, from the time when he was a one eyed cub pup who tried to jump into the helicopter to when you could equip a stun knife on his overgrown wolf ass. As a sniper in MGS5 it's much easier than I thought except I can't exactly sprint that fast away from mortar fire without being notice. Her footsteps are like boulders smashing, how can guards not notice?

After I installed the Infinite Heaven mod, I heard a guard say a voice line like "What is it boy?" which seems to be a voice line used by a dog handler guard.

I've played every single metal gear on playstation from mgs (1998) except the stupid raiden version and portable ops ofc. TPP is different from previous metal gears, I sort of miss the Tunnel running type of gameplay but on the other hand I love the open world gameplay. And for me the game is all about the story which started over 20 years ago. And this game takes place after Snake Eater, Portable ops, Peace Walker and before The Shadow Moses Incident. So, you saying the game sucks makes me guess that youre new to metal gear saga, which is totally ok. I'm not saying everyone should play them from mgs1 to mg TTP, but I do love the game.

Quiet's finest moment in my game was when I had to get that killer bee rocket launcher (or whatever it was called). The skulls turn up and by the time I got out of the caves to attack the skulls, she'd taken care of them all.
in past playthroughs Quiet was my favorite. I'm playing through again and I can't seem to get Quiet to do anything. She just stays in random vantage points irrelevant to what I'm doing and won't shoot anything. edit: i forgot about using the menu to set her to go into attack mode.

I really only use her during the Skulls battles. I always found D Dog to be a much better scout since he will mark anything regardless of sight, and her offensive capabilities are not much of use to me outside of the skulls battles because I go for perfect stealth, no kill runs, and I usually end up fultoning any vehicle or guard I take out.
I've always loved hearing her hum, makes me feel safe when playing the game knowing I have someone watching my back.
Although late to the game, I really appreciate your buddy guides.
Additional Information:
I use Quiet all the time so here are a few extra things.
- Deploying her with her starting equipment (costing 0 GMP) then changing her equipment to anything else as much as you want costs nothing. (I've never seen switching equipment decrease GMP immediately, so unless it takes effect when returning to Motherbase it is 100% free).
- I think her outfits: Bloody, Silver and Gold, stun enemies upon detecting her for a moment.
The only thing that I hate is that she sometimes kills peaple that are A++

She is key to getting easy S ranks in so many missions. She is definitely OP but she's my favorite buddy. Probably her most effective mission is owning Skulls in Metallic Archea when she has the heavy sniper. All you need to do is hide up beside the control tower and Quiet will do all the rest.
What happens if u killed her in the boss fight is it permanent? Since i just shot her without having second thoughts

There's a side op 111 that starts the buddy part select her and she was troubling at first in order to tell her what to do it's in the map just wait until see comes down then go in the map and use the side option part the it should say quiet (scout) or quiet (attack) or in the buddy options it's the same thing k that's how I use her.
