Its very strange how Kojima treated GZ and I wonded why was that aproach taken for only one short mission but was abandoned in TPP. I guess that was the point of been a phantom I guess.
Totally agree. Playing this game on hard with all the HuD and markers off is the best MGS/Stealth game I ever played. Holding up every guy in every mission had me more engaged than TPP ever did.
I have been saying for years, MGS is best when you are in a closed, mini-sandbox with a goal to achieve or reach; Peace Walker was exactly that, and it was in a lot of way the best way to play. Phantom Pain was just TOO MUCH: - Mother Base ? The novelty of visiting it wore off pretty quickly. - Getting from one outpost on the map to another ? Tedious. - The weapons, items, and vehicles ? Un-necessary. Ground Zeroes was the closest to MGS perfection. If Phantom Pain was like it and Peace Walker (select a mission from the menu, get immediately dropped in, fulfill the objective, and exit the mission area), that would have been much better than what we got.
Your second and third points contradict each other. MgsV is a fantastic stealth game in part because the open world allows you to make your own approach, theres no reason to say that open world isnt a better idea than levels, if they remade shadow moses but stuck it on a big map why would you complain?
@@daniel8181 The open world in The Phantom Pain is terrible. It's genuinely the worst open world I've ever seen in a game. It's so plain and boring with nothing but blank pointless land in between outposts and bases. At least Ghost Recon: Wildlands let you use helicopters and planes to get around.
@@TheFirstCurse1 You seem like one of those people needs to find a reason to complain. Ignoring that you have a jeep dropped off with you by default, and can call one any time, What exactly do you want in the space between? I happened to have the game installed, so I booted up and it seems the longest distance between two two bases is Hunokua nioka station to nova braga airport, in between are two smaller camps. I attempted to ignore the camps and drive right on through, but was shot all to hell and died, so we can assume that the camp is a valid enough place to consider a point of interest, keeping that in mind, here are the times I recorded not between contact and material, contact and animal, not even contact and contact, the following are times between deadly contact and deadly contact as recorded by a Casio A158We (known for its accuracy): In Jeep: 00.25.28 On Foot (sprinting): 00.36.66 kiss my ass, find something else to complain about.
Funny enough, it was Far Cry 3 that introduced me to the "get the high ground, mark enemies, scout and plan the attack" gameplay loop. Can't get enough of this since. Ground Zeroes and MGSV were both masterpieces. They could come out today, 10 years later, they still would be 10/10 games.
MGSV was not a masterpiece in any way, shape, or form. The story was rushed and unfinished, the open world is one of the worst I've ever experienced, there's no difficulty options whatsoever leading to an extremely easy (to the point of being boring and lame) experience, etc.
@@TheFirstCurse1 The story was finished, people were just mad because they didn't get their fix of cringe anime moments and endless exposition. The open world is not an open world, it's a sandbox used to connect missions. The difficulty is up to you, and what you're up to use to beat missions. No point in filling it with stupid events, like in AC or FC, so ADHD kids won't get bored. "Man I walked in the desert for 2 whole minutes and nothing happened, that sucks". Did you use air support every mission, resulting in a B rank max ? What about the gameplay, the most important aspect of every video game ? Is it bad too ?
@@Palindrome3945 No, the story quite literally was not finished. There's unfinished cutscenes and the story feels incomplete. You can't even argue against that fact. It 100% is an open world. You can't argue against that either. And you trying to defend how empty and lifeless it is is pathetic. It's objectively one of the worst open worlds in any game, and everyone besides apparently you agrees with that statement. As for difficulty, even with the least amount of equipment possible and using a sneak suit during daytime it's still too easy. Stop defending the horrible decision to not have a difficulty option. The game is so easy that it's boring. The gameplay is amazing, but it carries an otherwise terrible game. If it wasn't for the great gameplay it'd be one of the worst games I've ever played. Only thing that bothered me was holding up an enemy doesn't change their icon above their head. So you don't know where the non held up enemies are. Also the dive has you stand up after diving if you hold forward. In TPP you stay crawling after diving.
when i got my xbox my cousin gave me this game to try out and originally i thought to myself “i won’t get that interested in the game, although i’ll definitely give it a try” as it was my first non-racing game for my console. 5 years later and that very game has led me into a rabbit-hole of the mgs universe and stealth games
You can or could download an app to your phone or tablet that acts as your pause screen, having a touch screen map on your lap while playing worked great, you could just glance down on occasion and still control snake. If it's still doable, I'd try it.
I love how the predictability of GZ. With each level, every guard has their own set pathing. It really makes you feel rewarded for learning where the guards will be, where they turn, and what they do when they panic.
In this game we played as Big Boss in his actual prime, with experience, skill and confidence in his role. In the MGSV:TPP, well you know how it goes. It makes sense that his Big Boss feels much more grandiose.
I have played every MGS at release going back to MGS1. Glad to see a celebration of GZ here. It's often overlooked for Phantom Pain (which I think is the best one, despite it's flaws) but I loved playing GZ. I think I'll replay it right now. Subscribed.
nah mate, TPP is easily THE worst MGS game ever created. It instantly soured the entire franchise, and made people loathe Kocknami for all eternity. For a good reason.
@@GugureSuxTPP had the best gameplay and is not the worst metal gear game lmao . Replay ability and gameplay goes to TPP easily but environment and stealth goes to GZ
I'm excited to try out GZ soon. Still wish that Big Boss wore some camo in the day missions because a dark suit with golden bands under daylight isn't remotely covert. LOL
Classical intel acquisition, I played that one way different on my first time than the short clip that was shown, I took the truck to its end destination, and hold up a guard in the basement, he was talking sussy and gave me the cassette, it was not the spy Kaz was talking about.
Your use of music from the first Tekken Tag Tournament just gave me a major nostalgia blast mate! I was also shocked that I enjoyed Ground Zeroes more than The Phantom Pain.
stealth perfection is a title I’d give to the hitman games, everything feels alive, stealth feels simple yet complicated, failing anything has consequences, but the thing that fails could be a chandelier under the target.
I honestly like this more than Phantom Pain. I don't know why people still hold a grudge against this game just because the price of it was insane (at the time).
@@davidstinger1134 Crying about it 10 years later when you can get it for practically free won't change anything. My whole point is that people should hold it against this game for so long, since it doesn't make the game worse.
I really, really admire how GZ handled the stealth. It was such an unparalleled experience... I find myself going back to the game from time to time. Despite how flawed TPP is, I still consider it my favourite game from the entire series, second to MGS2. Every single facet of TPP was genuinely some of the most fun I've ever had playing a video game - the radio chatter, the buddy system, the attention to detail, all of it culminated for a fantastic experience. For me personally, of course. This is to say that, I do believe GZ handled just about everything better stealth-wise relative to TPP, but I still prefer the latter over the former. Great video, by the way!
One thing I noticed with Ground Zeroes that was annoying was how the aiming worked with "points". As in when using a scoped weapon, you could only turn the scope in certain increments, instead of smoothly. I literally could not snipe one of the enemies in a guard tower because the aiming would jump between two spots when trying to slightly adjust my aim and he happened to stand in between those 2 spots the game decided I could aim at.
I think the main reason GZ shines brighter as a stealth game over TPP is because in GZ you don't have the freedom to approach from any angle. You don't have the security of being able to disengage at any time and come back from the other side. Though in TPPs defense I will say MGS games have always been a 'choose your own difficulty' game. If you don't like supply drops don't use them. If you don't like buddies don't use them. I for one cannot stand tranquilizers. I think they make things way to easy but the beauty of MGS is you don't have to use it. There's no point where it's required. You can try to argue "I shouldn't have to limit myself for a game to be good" and in most cases I would say you are right... but not when it comes to MGS. As I said you choose your own experience in these games and the games are built in such a way that you are able to do just that. You can absolutely go OSP on any mission only relying on CQC/Knife. I mean the game even lets you turn off all hud elements if you think marking makes things to easy. Story telling aside, just purely looking at variety and gameplay, TPP is one of the best in the series. Great assortment of weapons (even if they're not real) that are fully customizable to your liking. Plenty of outfits to suit whatever style you like. So many fun toys to support the three main gameplay styles. Those being perfect stealth, lethal stealth and weapons free. (if you think going loud isn't an MGS thing to do let me just point you towards the forced encounters in previous games like the stairwell in MGS1) And a pretty sizeable modding community for extra content. (currently playing as MGS2 Snake with David Hayter's voice and loving it) My main complaint is the variety of sneaking type locations. You've got Afghanistan (desert), central Africa (plains/jungle), FOBs (Big Shell)... but where's the urban maps? I know there's a few bases in the game but there's not enough indoor facility type sneaking to scratch that MGS1 itch. You've got everything else but it's missing a MGS1 style map. I modded the GZ map into TPP and it's amazing but even that isn't quite the same as MGS1. Someone please make an arctic map with heavy focus on indoor facility infiltration... If it had that I believe TPP (gameplay wise) would be the definitive MGS experience. Oh and one more complaint about TPP... Skullface is such a weak villain and you don't even get a boss fight with him. But that's not really a gameplay complaint. I feel people honestly just get held up on the fact that the game is supposedly unfinished. Even though Kojima himself said it was. I mean just look at all the prior games. Especially MGS4. His full vision was never realized in any of them. So TPP isn't any different.
There is a LOT to talk about with TPP and I don't even necessarily loathe it. I've got a very complicated relationship with it though. But the idea that it isn't feature complete is ridiculous I agree. I don't know why some people still parrot that as the truth when it's been refuted so many times.
@Ghooly the biggest thing about tpp is the organisation of the mother base. Why do I have to organise it, I almost just got Merked by a small ginger in a straight jacket, now you want me to go find hundreds of top notch soldiers some desert in Africa?!?!?
Skullface is amazing just jn a TPP kind of way. The game is Very different to the rest of the series and jts not a problem hat theres No „bossfight”. Thematicalyl and story wise, skullface is fucking amazing and gives such a great loop on the whole series
You had me until the end. While I agree Ground Zeroes is such a great game, The Phantom Pain expanded the design and your personal arsenal. You can repeat any of the missions and complete them with a variety of different strategies like GZ. Your imagination is given even more agency in TPP than GZ. Anyways, I still enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing. We all could use more Metal Gear in our entertainment lives.
Another awesome thing about MGS GZ is that it runs GREAT on the steam deck. I recently went on vacation and ended up 100% the game. Great game to have on the go for a quick stealth badass fix when you need it!
I would like to know opinion on the Hitman series. If you enjoy replaying the same level with different approaches, challenges and missions you'd be right at home with Hitman Trilogy. That was a great video btw. New sub !
I agree with everything said in this video, Ground Zeroes is a perfect stealth experience. In defense of TPP, it is much more fun when you let go and start experimenting with everything it offers you, I enjoyed it much more on my second playthrough.
@@vlad4o813 Still not on the level of GZ. Ground Zeroes crams in more interesting character and plot in one mission than any mgsv mission. Also the music is actually good
@@Tehgamerstation Ground Zeros barely has a story. The main campaign is about 30 minutes long, and we barely get any info about anything. Camp Omega is a good level, but it's not as good as most make it out to be.
@@Tehgamerstation No, there isn't. We get a 1-minute intro about Skull Face and are then sent off to save some literally who's from a game that a sizable portion of MGS players probably didn't even bother playing. The rest is just side ops about bombing vehicles or executing some war criminals.
I'm glad people are finally coming around on Ground Zeroes, I remember plenty of people were upset that it was "too short" but after playing Phantom Pain I became disappointed that it wasnt as tightly designed as Ground Zeroes. Imo, Ground Zeroes is the best set of missions in all of mgs5, and thats rather unfortunate. Phantom Pain has so many problems that simply werent an issue in ground zeroes due to its laser focus on pure stealth action
In my first playthrough of the main mission, I think I killed somewhere around 75 guards because I got caught and a tank was right there so there was no reason not to get in and start shooting
I swear the slight rage when I’m an hour into a full stealth no detection , no tranq , no kills run and a random guard just happens to change shifts with a guy and walk past me 😂 love this game tho
I wonder... The cardboard box can represent a sort of safety, as you said, but through the events of GZ we see that Mother Base is no longer safe. The threat seems to see all, know all. They were comfortable, safe, in their "box" (Mother Base) and now they no longer have that safety. So we no longer have our cardboard box. Their "cardboard box" cant protect them from the rain. Just like all the imagery (E-52-3) and dialogue through MGSV; GZ is a mirror image of TPP. GZ was stealthy (no tools). TPP was all out war (all the tools).
I liked GZ a lot more than TPP because the latter felt “too open.” I very much prefer GZ and the games before it because they’re only partially-open dungeon crawlers basically
Undoubtedly one of the best stealth action games ever made with the killer twist at the end. It can't be! Edit: Together with TPP the definitive stealth action experience so far. Let's see if there is gonna be a new splinter cell or perhaps a MG1 remake?
Ground Zero , to me personally, was the last ditch effort at a proper MGS title (granted being a "demo"... 6hr game play aside. Its all extra). It was fun. It made me feel like I was playing MGS2/3 again for the first time. Hell, I'm abliged to say that it was.... Pretty Good. Edit. You've earned my respect and subscription. We'll played fellow.
I went back to 100% GZ after 100%ing TPP and the increased difficulty of GZ (increased guard vision, claustrophobic level) was very much appreciated. Sometimes in the TPP the immersion was broken for me because of how much they toned down the guard vision, thankfully on PC with Infinite Heaven you can bump it up. I wish there were more locations like Camp Omega in TPP. Nova Braga airport, OKB Zero, and FOBs capture some of it, but don't really hold a candle to Omega. I was a bit miffed when I realized that there were almost no building interiors at the Afghanistan Central Basecamp. Also agree with the daytime levels as well, are there even any missions in TPP that force daytime?
This is weird for a game like this, I was wsiting for Phantom pain but for some reason, I grew with this. It's something special in a lot of ways and when it was made. A fan and kojima that made for the fans and was fun. But also the stealth, the machanics and atmosphere. Compare to tpp you got levels that have different atmospheres but the same sandbox, and where the enemies are placed that make it feel differently in its angles, like you get a characteristic of each of the position's of people and they are perivced where they are placed, just like in mgs2. But what is very interesting is that many things will be going off while your not present. And that tells alot. Information gose by very sutblely and swiftly and you go back for more of it. I still play it till this day. And aswell the anti-gun level with the clear blue atmosphere, gives this early 2010s feel, in some weird way. Just everything was back then and nice.
18:28 Big agree here. This is a great example. Open world games are fundamentally pointless when 90% of the world is barren and devoid of anything interesting. Another good example is the recent Hitman trilogy. Individual maps with lots of options and avenues packed in
@@Ghooly Did I just give you a video idea? 😂 Collectively, they are one of my favorite games. Also subbed, your channel is great, can’t wait to see more bro!
It might sound like a weird take but I think The Last of Us Part II is actually very similar in design to Ground Zeroes. Most levels follow the structure of medium-sized environments with a ton of freedom in terms of which path to take and how to deal with enemies. Obviously the tools at your disposal are very different but the same sense of freedom and sandbox-like level design is very much there in certain levels, and I'd be surprised if Ground Zeroes wasn't a big inspiration for it
I think if you look at it from a metal gear perspective it definitely can feel like its lacking but the freedom in tpp is unmatched compared to most single player campaigns now. Its a good way to enjoy metal gear if your not that interested in the story and more focused on the gameplay.
I feel like tpp was an attempt to bring in a larger player base to the series instead of the long time dedicated fans but the balance could have and should have been better.
The stealth and level design is really great on mgsv. Since you like it i would strongly recommend to try hitman world of assasination trilogy. Its not open world of course but each level is open-ended with many many ways to deal with the targets, very replayable too and kinda goofy sometimes. I can see many similarities on those two games and even though they are very different i think that if someone enjoy mgsv will enjoy hitman too
It's а real shame that TPP has so few missions where you need to infiltrate some kind of facility, like in GZ. Oil facility, OKB Zero and power plant that you can infiltrate only once because reasons. I wanted to include main soviet base, but it's jut way too open. So we have 3 missions that feels like GZ, but even they aren't as good, as "just a paid demo". It's a real shame
Great videos dude amazing work, I would love to see a comparison between ground zeros and phantom pain. Ground zeros feels more “grounded” pun intended and more realistic feeling while phantom pain feels kind of off I’ve noticed and I’ve never really seen anyone talk about it
GZ vs TPP is a prime example and proof that well designed, hand-crafted, relatively compact LEVELS > fuck-huge, generated open world maps. It's also so unbelievably higher quality GAME than its brother, and also a straight sequel to the equally amazing Peace Walker; the real "MGS5" game that sadly too few people even played.
Everything he just said, but without any of the HUD notifications. *chef's kiss* Perfection. It's funny how similar Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain are mechanics-wise, yet I consider GZ to be peak MGS and Phantom Pain to be... *sigh* The worst in the series that I consider to be just filler.
@@vlad4o813 My vote would go to Portable Ops... although, considering it's not even canon, I'm not sure how much worth is this choice in this matter. Otherwise, I'd say Peace Walker, although it's not that bad of a game, either (as long as you challenge yourself by not relying on tranqing people from outside their laughably short vision range)
When i was playing ground zeroes i felt something was off, like the controls weren’t as tight as they could be. Then i started playing mgsv. The controls are perfection in that game. In conclusion, i think mgsv is the perfect stealth game
If the level design of Ground Zeroes is what you prefer compared to TPP then Hitman Blood Money, Deus Ex, and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory are the games for you
It's pretty funny how ground Zeroes takes the Box and camo away to make things a much more realistic Challenge and then TPP says "okay now you can have it back, just play a few hours"
Ground Zeroes was just a Demo you paid almost full price for. Shit it was basically what Alpha Gameplay was. Because Konami being greedy never changed.
Should've stuck with this gameplay style, forget the open world. I like the HUD being virtually non existent and the base design is top notch. They could've just done individual missions like this and phantom pain could've been much better imo. I would've preferred a more structured story, even though i rarely know what is going on in mgs games.
I always thought that if they do a bottom up MGS1 remake, Ground Zeroes should be a template. The gameplay, the base, the night setting. Keep the story the same but just flesh out shadow moses
This teaser was the reason I got Phantom Pain. I was a bit disappointed that the final game was nowhere near as polished and overdesigned as GZ but I still enjoyed the systems driven gameplay of TPP. GZ felt more like a Hitman level and that was not carried over to TPP sadly.

Fucking hope a peace walker remake happens so we can play as stupid sexy MSF bandana-less BB again lol
Phantom Pain was just TOO MUCH:
- Mother Base ? The novelty of visiting it wore off pretty quickly.
- Getting from one outpost on the map to another ? Tedious.
- The weapons, items, and vehicles ? Un-necessary.
Ground Zeroes was the closest to MGS perfection. If Phantom Pain was like it and Peace Walker (select a mission from the menu, get immediately dropped in, fulfill the objective, and exit the mission area), that would have been much better than what we got.
Totally. MGSV was such a failure in so many ways.
I think it gives much more freedom and creativity to the player. Which is why I think it's one of the best games of 2010s by far
I attempted to ignore the camps and drive right on through, but was shot all to hell and died, so we can assume that the camp is a valid enough place to consider a point of interest, keeping that in mind, here are the times I recorded not between contact and material, contact and animal, not even contact and contact, the following are times between deadly contact and deadly contact as recorded by a Casio A158We (known for its accuracy):
In Jeep: 00.25.28
On Foot (sprinting): 00.36.66
kiss my ass, find something else to complain about.
However it can only carry it so far.
You know you have to support your claims, instead of just saying things you wish were true out of nowhere ?
You affirm a lot, saying I can't argue (it's funny because I did argue, but you just repeated your claims without arguing back yourself) but don't bring arguments yourself.
Anyway, I don't really care about your opinion about this game tbh. Stay mad. @@TheFirstCurse1
Don't get me wrong, I love messing about with the enemies in The Phantom Pain, But GZ really has that hand crafted feel that makes MGS games so great.
Fox engine runs so smooth on anything, a toaster can run it 60fps easy
Only thing that bothered me was holding up an enemy doesn't change their icon above their head. So you don't know where the non held up enemies are. Also the dive has you stand up after diving if you hold forward. In TPP you stay crawling after diving.
when i got my xbox my cousin gave me this game to try out and originally i thought to myself “i won’t get that interested in the game, although i’ll definitely give it a try” as it was my first non-racing game for my console. 5 years later and that very game has led me into a rabbit-hole of the mgs universe and stealth games
I feel like I’m one of the only people that prefer GZ over the actual game TPP.
Trust me you aren't alone.
Pretty crazy tbh
Anyone with half a brain cell would. The production value alone is so obvious within the first few minutes of each game.
You literally aren’t the only one I have seen a lot of people preferring GZ over TPP both for wrong and good reasons
EVERYONE IN THIS COMMENT IS SAYING THAT, YOU AREN'T SPECIAL
Open world for MGSV was pretty useless. I wish the focus was more on a linear campaign that drops you in relatively smaller but focused playgrounds.
This and Tanker of MGS2.
Deus ex was so great at making a sandbox stealth level...not open world, yet so many ways to tackle a mission
Human revolution?
You can or could download an app to your phone or tablet that acts as your pause screen, having a touch screen map on your lap while playing worked great, you could just glance down on occasion and still control snake. If it's still doable, I'd try it.
I love how the predictability of GZ. With each level, every guard has their own set pathing. It really makes you feel rewarded for learning where the guards will be, where they turn, and what they do when they panic.
It's insane to think that I bought ground zeroes in my PS3 XD the fox engine was so well optimized.
It's crazy how Ground Zeros clears Phantom Pain in almost every gameplay metric. As well as atmosphere and writing.
Should have had an entire game of Ground Zeroes type levels. It would have felt like a modern version of chaos theory.
GZ is the definition of " another simple mission for the Legendary Big Boss, but everything is smelling reeeaally bad"
Entirely agree! I put more time into GZ and loved the vibe. It felt more like MGS that TFP.

Like 10 years late to the party but this convinced me to give it a shot
Hope you enjoy it!
I'm excited to try out GZ soon. Still wish that Big Boss wore some camo in the day missions because a dark suit with golden bands under daylight isn't remotely covert. LOL
It’s just Kojima / Shinkawa art-style. He has a knack for space-type outfits with futuristic add-ons here and there.
@@SaveliySakharov I noticed that Big Boss gets the more flashy sneaking suits compared to Solid Snake. My fave one of BB is the one from Portable Ops.

Classical intel acquisition, I played that one way different on my first time than the short clip that was shown, I took the truck to its end destination, and hold up a guard in the basement, he was talking sussy and gave me the cassette, it was not the spy Kaz was talking about.
I wish modders could be able to bring back the more heavier movement and cqc from gz to pp.
Your use of music from the first Tekken Tag Tournament just gave me a major nostalgia blast mate! I was also shocked that I enjoyed Ground Zeroes more than The Phantom Pain.
GZ is the goat of metal gear, while I love open world stealthing, I love that I can finish gz in a sitting and the level is really dynamic.
Oh dang we got a Tekken enjoyer here. Great video, now I'm itching to dowload GZ again.
that tekken 4 music in the background you’re cultured
stealth perfection is a title I’d give to the hitman games, everything feels alive, stealth feels simple yet complicated, failing anything has consequences, but the thing that fails could be a chandelier under the target.
I honestly like this more than Phantom Pain. I don't know why people still hold a grudge against this game just because the price of it was insane (at the time).
The game was short that’s why
@@cantsuggestareasonablename9101with missions that last up to an hour if you actually sneak and take your time
Because it was $40 for 1 hour of gameplay, it should have been free.
Solid video! (Pun intended) Really well paced and super chill to watch, keep up!
Thank you!
I 100% agree with this video. Im literally playing ground zeroes whilst watching this lmao.
Turn off markers in display settings and use mods to increase soldiers sight and hearing. Now it’s more realistic on top of how awesome is already is.
The Phantom Pain needed several big bases like the one in Ground Zeroes.
(currently playing as MGS2 Snake with David Hayter's voice and loving it)
My main complaint is the variety of sneaking type locations.
@@Ghooly Just to clarify I do agree with your takes in this video. I don't know why I started ranting Lol.
@@NeuroticMei lmao thanks. It was a really interesting read though I love hearing metal gear rants haha
Big Boss is the greatest war hero/war criminal that’s ever lived!
I really like the idea of Ground Zeroes
It’s a really fun interim between the typical Metal Gear Solid formula and the Phantom Pain’s unscripted style
No wonder Venom Snake was so skill after this training
Your accent twists more than a Metal Gear story. I like it.
Another awesome thing about MGS GZ is that it runs GREAT on the steam deck. I recently went on vacation and ended up 100% the game. Great game to have on the go for a quick stealth badass fix when you need it!
Really good video, nice gameplay :) I really enjoyed GZ back then. Keep up the good work man :)
Thank you very much!
Oh how I would've loved to see the timeline where MGSV:TPP was just more of GZ.
GZ : No witnesses
TPP : *No witnesses* ( They're all dead )
I would like to know opinion on the Hitman series. If you enjoy replaying the same level with different approaches, challenges and missions you'd be right at home with Hitman Trilogy. That was a great video btw. New sub !
Hitman is what MGS fans claim GZ is, since the maps have actual detail and arent a barren COD multiplayer map
I agree with everything said in this video, Ground Zeroes is a perfect stealth experience. In defense of TPP, it is much more fun when you let go and start experimenting with everything it offers you, I enjoyed it much more on my second playthrough.
Great video it makes me wanna play Ground Zero.
I haven't yet played the Metal Gear Solid 5 games.
Finally someone said it. Ground Zeroes is better than any mission in MGSV.
Not really. MGSV has some stand out missions like Hellbound, Pitch Dark, and Skull Face (OKB Zero).
@@vlad4o813 There's more story in it than any mgsv mission. Who cares about saving msf soldier 87
@@Tehgamerstation No, there isn't. We get a 1-minute intro about Skull Face and are then sent off to save some literally who's from a game that a sizable portion of MGS players probably didn't even bother playing. The rest is just side ops about bombing vehicles or executing some war criminals.
The game was so smooth and well optimized 😢😢
Wish more games had the fox engine
The hitman games are a sort of stealth sandboxes too but yeah it’s been a while since we had something this good
I'm glad people are finally coming around on Ground Zeroes, I remember plenty of people were upset that it was "too short" but after playing Phantom Pain I became disappointed that it wasnt as tightly designed as Ground Zeroes. Imo, Ground Zeroes is the best set of missions in all of mgs5, and thats rather unfortunate. Phantom Pain has so many problems that simply werent an issue in ground zeroes due to its laser focus on pure stealth action
play Hitman if you want focus on stealth, not this game where you are rewarded for running and gunning.
With snakebite mods and infinite heaven my copy of mgs v now captures what I loved about GZ down to the og sneaking suit.
I liked GZ a lot more than TPP because the latter felt “too open.” I very much prefer GZ and the games before it because they’re only partially-open dungeon crawlers basically
Great vid, started playing TPP again for it’s 9th Anniv. and now I want to play GZ instead and then resume
Very appreciated thank you for this ❣️
3:46 “Rescue the Intel agent” begs to differ.
5:10 this came out 10 years ago?? Legit looks like a game that could come out today
Individual maps with lots of options and avenues packed in
Yeah the Hitman WOA games are basically GZ's concept cranked up to 1,000 they're incredible.

Cant wait for your phantom pain review best sandbox stealth game
Aggree, this is the best stealth game ever. I wish MGSV would've had the same level design,.
I played GZ for like 30 to 45 mins before I went into TPP
It might sound like a weird take but I think The Last of Us Part II is actually very similar in design to Ground Zeroes. Most levels follow the structure of medium-sized environments with a ton of freedom in terms of which path to take and how to deal with enemies. Obviously the tools at your disposal are very different but the same sense of freedom and sandbox-like level design is very much there in certain levels, and I'd be surprised if Ground Zeroes wasn't a big inspiration for it
I can definitely see where you're coming from there. Some of those levels in tlou2 are really fun to figure out in ways similar to GZ.
I think if you look at it from a metal gear perspective it definitely can feel like its lacking but the freedom in tpp is unmatched compared to most single player campaigns now. Its a good way to enjoy metal gear if your not that interested in the story and more focused on the gameplay.
It would definitely be nice to have some more intimidating places to sneak into tho
I feel like tpp was an attempt to bring in a larger player base to the series instead of the long time dedicated fans but the balance could have and should have been better.
This games had so much potential, its a shame they couldt quite live up to them
The stealth and level design is really great on mgsv. Since you like it i would strongly recommend to try hitman world of assasination trilogy. Its not open world of course but each level is open-ended with many many ways to deal with the targets, very replayable too and kinda goofy sometimes. I can see many similarities on those two games and even though they are very different i think that if someone enjoy mgsv will enjoy hitman too
I'm a gigantic Hitman WOA fan those games are incredible.
Let’s not get too deep TPP was a good game easily the most funnest and re playable game in the entirety of metal gear franchise.
Filler? The ending changes the lore of the franchise.

When i was playing ground zeroes i felt something was off, like the controls weren’t as tight as they could be. Then i started playing mgsv. The controls are perfection in that game. In conclusion, i think mgsv is the perfect stealth game
RUclips's algorithm really pushed this one , i love the video mate. One more sub added to your channel
I wish they stuck with GZ's formula and released Sandbox Maps akin to Camp Omega instead of the Open World stuff they have
I always thought that if they do a bottom up MGS1 remake, Ground Zeroes should be a template. The gameplay, the base, the night setting. Keep the story the same but just flesh out shadow moses
Replaying ground zeros at the moment. I forgot how The selath is insane and very close quarters. Plus the graphics hold up great.
