Speaking of weird. My friend and I once had identical Biostar motherboards, ram, GPU, and Sempron +2800 setups. Determined it was a bad cpu after my rig worked great after trying his cpu. On a whim he tried my cpu in his rig and it worked!? Thinking might have been a connection, dirt, etc we switched back and here's the weird part...my cpu still did not work in my rig AND his no longer worked in it's original rig! We switched cpus and both our pcs worked great until our next upgrades. Never have figured that one out.

Disappointing to discover nothing helpful on MSI website. Unkownst at the time, I did not plug in extra 4 pin (REQUIRED) CPU power cable, in addition to the 8pin CPU power; 1st board would not post and displayed a red CPU error light; would not post; according to manual (which lacks important information) showed red CPU post error with NO help or explanation on what to do in manual nor website. RETURNED 1st board.> 2nd board: used both power cables; would not post. VIDEO Error. Downloaded BIOS 7c37v1F, changed name to MSI.ROM as instructed, turned on PSU; did not initiate computer power; inserted USB (FAT32) and used Flash Bios button. Hopeful when blinking red lights, as instructed while it updated; it restarted and same VGA error. Do not buy this MB. Now I have to find a MB for my Ryzen 9 and this one looked like the best bet. I was just troubleshooting a build with an MSI mpg carbon max (with a ryzen 9 5900x). The debug LED told me the system was waiting for a boot device selection BUT the "ez debug led" indicated that the CPU was not found or failed. I had no video output.
Loooonng story short 1 of my memory sticks was bad.
And the long version is... So my 3090ti hadn't arrived yet and I wanted to get started with software installation. I connected my HDMI to the onboard slot into a dvi adapter.
No video output. I thought I better check, and sure enough the 5900x doesn't have integrated graphics and requires a discrete graphics. Duh.. Plug in my old 1080. No video output. Duh you idiot, you forgot the gpu power. Okay.. still no video output (In hindsight though you'll typically get video output and a message about the power to the GPU). Right.. Is my dvi adapter trash? Replace with known working cable. STILL no video output. WTF!! I just spent a shit ton of money on this build.
At the time I was paying attention the debug LED reported "90" which means waiting for boot device selection.. But now debug LED is going crazy and the indicator for failed or bad CPU is still illuminated. Why? Pull the heatsink off, check for bent pins on CPU, cpu is fine, thermal paste application was perfect too... Is heatsink installed correctly? Take it off and on 3 more times. It's good.
    Ready to RMA motherboard.
For shits and giggles, decide to pull 3 of 4 memory sticks.
Fire it up. I see display, I see BIOS. You serious right now I say? Repeat multiple times testing every memory stick. Yup. Found it. One was bad. Would not post with 1 particular stick of ram. Go figure. I suppose that's the best case scenario. I can still do what I need to do with 32gb and I'll just have to wait for the 64. But why is the motherboard indicating bad CPU and I'm getting no video output plus it's telling me boot selection device? Dafuq man...
Anyway... thank God too because I don't have another CPU or motherboard to troubleshoot.
There was a 25% chance I didn't use a good memory stick that first time and could've found myself down a deep dark rabbit hole. Which probably would've ended up with me drunk on the bathroom floor passed out. Would I have been smart enough at the time to try a 2nd ram stick after multiple failed posts? Or would I have lost my shit? Maybe after sleeping on it the next day I would've come at it with a calmer attitude. Regardless, as a hobby system builder I've learned over the last 20 years, you have to be patient, and try everything.

Some of these boards need all boot devices to be disabled in the bios boot sector apart from the one with your boot OS on it that you intend to boot from.
just had a weird issue with one of these boards just the same error beeps you got but only when a USB drive was connected, on start up, I changed the ram settings from no boost to 1 XMP profile setting and it was O.K.

I'm not a fan of MSI especially the Tomahawk line. Quick tip... If you don't have a boot drive connected (USB, SATA, something) it WILL NOT post. I think from memory I had the same issue on a Tomahawk B450. I'm shocked that worked. However I am not. I prefer memory slot closer to the CPU socket, due to dust intake. Sadly EVERY motherboard manufacturer refuses to allow us to use the closer memory slots. RIP simplicity... Hope it's not the CPU. ~Continues watching~

There's a fair amount of overlap with my one friend's new issue. We both got new 6800's, and his system would not even showcase any power on the mobo with the new card installed. The moment he put his 1060 back in, PC had power. Sent the 6800 in for RMA, but I'm still searching for answers in case Newegg says it's fine.

I've had cold boot issues when I bought that Motherboard at the time and it didn't wanted to boot up as the led light of GPU was flashing, I did the impossible by removing RAM GPU and a couple of times shorting the power pins while the battery was removed, when I put them back in after several attempts I've got a post it was the RAM didn't like the 3200MHZ Overclock from the BIOS, when it booted I did flash the latest bios 2 times and since then it didn't giving me any more problems.
I thought I am gonna RMA the Motherboard but I decided against it and tried it hard to get it working as long as I have not damaged the machine.
    Specs:
    MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
    AMD Ryzen 2700X
    BeQuiet Dark Rock TF
    GSkill 16GB 3200MHZ DDR4 CL16
ASUS RTX2070 Super ROG Strix 8G Advanced
Samsung NVME SSD 960 Evo 1TB
    Seagate Barracuda 1TB (ST1000DM010)
    Corsair RM 750X
    Fractal Design Meshify C
That's it folks as long as you know what to do and how you do it you can get your machine up and running in no time. The most important of all is PATIENCE and PERSISTENCE.
    Cheers

The speakers like that came with CASES, not motherboards. And this is exactly why you READ THE MANUAL before troubleshooting to make sure you know what the heck you are doing. REAl men, adults, and Techs read manuals.

    • @cee128d
      @cee128d 3 года назад

@@WirrWicht In the last 40+ years the only computer speaker that I have seen included with a motherboard are the ones that are soldered on. I'm not saying that no one ever did, but it's not a very common practice. Cases used to have speakers physically mounted inside them from the factory, especially with the advent of the IBM Compatibles. These were larger than the tiny Piezzo's that cases use now. You have to remember that back in those day, IBM compat's didn't have sound cards so the only way they could play any sounds was from the case speakers.

MSI is hot garbage, I bought a B550 wouldn't work on two known good cards (Ryzen 3 3600x doesn't work with onboard GPU's so cant get to bio's at all) I have swapped all the parts with my asus rog formula VIII and everything works as it should. support had me pull the CMOS and it worked for a week then next boot my son got VGA light. I RMA and they send it back to me saying it works as should. I gave them a list of all components I used and I even showed them pictures everything I could show connected to the card and a short video of the boot up.
They took it for RMA a second time and AGAIN claimed it works as it should. I have not FUCKING idea what they think its supposed to do at this point because it absolutely does not work.
I even showed them the CPU back side showing all pins are good, and explained I connected the CPU to another board and it booted just fine.
MSI is officially off my list of decent brands.

I had the exact same issue with the exact same MB.The problem started after i updated the BIOS to version 7C84v14.Sometimes the computer posted, some others didn't, indicating VGA problem. The issue dissapeared after i updated the BIOS to version 7C84v15.It also worked fine with the original BIOS version 7C84v13
