In 2019 when the x570 boards came out MSI ran a huge marketing campaign for buyers. Evidently why they all had 5 star ratings within weeks of the initial release. I choose to go with an ASROCK Extreme 4 x570 which was a pretty board for leds, however even though the manufacturer website claimed my G Skill 3600 ram was compatible the board on some random startups would reset the clock and reconfigure the board to default settings. I replaced the Extreme 4 with this board Mag Tomahawk.....Posted on first boot listed the hardware it found and asked to load defaults or go into setup. I choose defaults and it booted directly into windows. 10...Remarkable board since I now have wifi and bluetooth (by the way the bluetooth and wifi are great) and my 3600 ram was recognized immediately upon turning on xmp. The only issue with the board change was Windows was deactivated but I used the key from my 2009 windows xp that was upgraded to win 7 and then win 10 and Microsoft took a while to activate but accepted the key. I was ready to reinstall win10.
Agreed, used this review to choose the X570 Tomahawk instead of the B550 Tomahawk (which had been on backorder for weeks). Loved getting WiFi 6 included on the board, Pcie 4.0 on both M.2 drives + upper Pcie x16 slot, and particularly 2 USB 3.2 front panel connections (which I needed) as well as the USB-C front panel connector. Price difference between B550 and X570 was not that great considering what the X570 offers.
Dude you rock! I love how animated you become when you get excited...lol! And thank you for explaining things in a way less technically minded people can understand easily.
i fully agree with the video output being total letdown lack of DisplayPort 2.0 (in-dev 2016 finalized 2019, cheaper than HDMI 1.4b) lack HDMI 2.1 (released 2017 btw.) (i hope MSI cut all this year bonuses of person responsible for this decision)
Hmm you really think this is a good choice? I am thinking of getting a new CPU finally. Maybe a 5900x. I still don't really know what board makes sense. Since I buy PC's for a very long use-time, I do want to make use of PCIe gen 4.0 for some things, and so I want it to be x570. But other than that it's not easy to find what is a good reliable motherboard.

Just FYI, at about 5:30 your video indicates that both M.2 slots support 64G/bs (s/b "Gb/s"). However, the MSI website specification details for this board indicates that the M.2 Slot 2 will only support SATA 6Gb/s transfer rate. Slot 2 M.2 uses the chipset PCIe lanes; whereas the slot 1 M.2 uses processor PCIe lanes.
Thanks for this. But after testing both M.2 SSD slots, i can confirm that they are both running on 4 Pcie standard. If you go on the specification page (details) of the Tomahawk site, it also details that both M.2ssds are PCIe 4.0 enabled. I hope this helps :)

The bean counters are trying to dictate to the engineers and artists, instead of listening to the people who know what they are doing. I truly love my X570 Unify. @@qlasalle The ASUS X57O Tuff is working fine, so she want's to keep it. I simply don't like ASUS' bios. The MSI bios is much better to play with, in my opinion.
I literally purchased this board in Amazon for my monster NAS build. I remember hearing the rumblings of MSI boards running hot but I'm hoping they have nipped that in the bud. The Aorus board I wanted for some strange reason is through the stratosphere so here I am. I should have made this comment from my PC/Tech channel but eh. Getting a board with 2.5g LAN, 4.0 on both M.2 slots, ecc memory support and usb-c front panel header support for less than an arm and a leg was pretty daunting but here I am. I watched your vid yesterday and a couple other folks while also scouring the search engine before I pulled the trigger on it. 165.00 USD.
Hey, just found your channel, loving it! I have one question, currently undecided between this and the unify for a 5900x, you think the unify is worth the 100$ difference?
I have one of these on backorder now, for $220 because that seems like a good deal. Many sellers now charge $300+ for faster delivery. If it doesn’t come in within a month or so I’ll probably get a Unify instead. They both seem like great mobos. Thanks for the reviews, I really appreciate your content.
Hello sir just a question, I think the Audio info you gave might be a mistake.. It’s not ALC1220 but it’s ALC1200? Cause i have this motherboard myself and I checked all the specs and it says ALC1200.. My question is if you could help me out can it support Audiophile Headphones with 150 ohm impedance? Or Do i need to get a Dac Amp? Thanks sir
@ 9:43 MSI's fan headers is something which worried me because my current board has 4-pin fan headers but the fourth pin is inactive (very sneaky) and is voltage controlled rather than PWM. But when looking up the manual for the Tomahawk, it says that the fan headers can be switched between PWM and DC in bios, so does this not technically make them hybrid fan headers, albeit not auto detecting? If you go to Page 36 in the manual here you can see what I mean: download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/E7C84v1.1.pdf
I almost bought the mgp gaming plus, thanks to your video I realized how bad of a purchase it would be. Now with this one I found the solution for my build, thank you :D

Gonna replace my board (x570 aorus master) it keeps getting this cold boot issue that gigabyte could not fix. On another note, I really like how knowledgeable you are but also keep it simple terms? Keep up the good work!
I am loving your videos and your analysis. This is helping a lot in deciding which one to ultimately go with. However, I am still confused between this and gigabyte aorus pro wifi. Can you please suggest which one to go with? I see this board has better VRM but missing RGB and hybrid fan connectors and look wise I like gigabyte more. What other major points would you consider between these two?
Laurent, what would you get if you had to choose between B550 Strix F and X570 Tomahawk, the strix is 20$ cheaper, has alc v1220 and the msi has v1200, this is one of the things on my mind, as well as the msi has realtek lan against the Intel on the Strix, so the strix wins in these, but also lacks type C on the board and pcie gen 4 on the second m2 slot, my main concern is the audio really, if you could feel any big difference between the alc 1220 and the 1200 I may go for the Asus board, what do you think
Awesome video freind! I was looking for information on this board and you went directly into the specifics I was trying to find out. I just bought this motherboard along side an SN 850 WD M.2 Gen 4 SSD and cant wait to take advantage of those high gen 4 ssd speeds with my Ryzen 3700x.
Great review! This is the only part I have gotten for a new PC build so far. What is the best combo to add as the sweet spot price to performance for pure gaming? Starting with CPU+GPU 3600+3060, then upg CPU to 3rd gen when released a good sweet spot?
Hi Laurent! I am having a hard time choosing between the x570 tomahawk, x570 rog strix e, and the x570 msi unify. Ignoring the features, from a quality, durability, and circuitry point of view, which one would you recommend? I know the last 2 are more expensive. I will be pairing the board I choose with a 3900x. Thanks!
You could always just replace the fan or take it off and place a case fan on the heatsink. Or you could probably go even fanless, at least if you don't go super crazy with m.2 ssds. I guess. I know it's an old comment but probably many other people wondering the same thing.
any words on the used chipsetfan, like you did in your msi gaming edge video? would be nice to know if msi spared some bucks here or used a good 'double ball bearing' 60k h rated (marketing blabal for todays min quality standard) fan.
An otherwise excellent motherboard but the lack of Thunderbolt support (from the USB-C port) is a major loss. It would have been nice to mention this in the review as well.
About the RAM, I notice you selected 4 stick, I was wondering because of the daisy chain topology it would be better to have 2 sticks? (2x16 vs 4x8, assuming same speed, timing and F/M-clock of 1800)
So the more sticks ull put on, the lower the memory support will go. If u go with a single stick ull go as high as 5ghz, if u go with 4 sticks, lucky u if u reach 3600. Now, 64gb of ram @3600 is much MUCH faster than 32gb ram @4000 or 16gb @5000. Hope this helps.
Do you know if this motherboard will fit inside a phanteks p500a case? This case says it's for e-atx while this motherboard is only atx, but ik most atx boards will fit inside an e-atx case and I wanna be able to fit a noctua nh-d15 fan inside

Don't ask why, but I found it really satisfying whenever you said 'Tomahawk'
A great review of a board that I'm looking forward to fitting into my first AMD build this weekend. Thanks for putting this together, much appreciated..
I have watched a few times your review of this motherboard... it's a good review with style... your own style... the one that makes one to want to listen and watch it a few times... thanks for the way you explain the strengths and weaknesses of this product...
Great info! Just curious, noticed that the NVME slots are different sizes, and I was not aware of this prior, but I want to get the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB SSDs, 2 of them, but will they both fit in those 2 slots or do I need to find one smaller then the other? thanks! :)
Gonna replace my board (x570 aorus master) it keeps getting this cold boot issue that gigabyte could not fix. On another note, I really like how knowledgeable you are but also keep it simple terms? Keep up the good work!
The motherboard review im waiting for!😀
Similar to godlike
Is this board good??
In x570 tomahawk support ryzen 5 3400g?
Hi laurent.. this x570 tomahawk or aorus pro wifi? Love your video and your accent..
how the hell are you so underrated?? this is the best motherboard review for any x570 series i have ever watched. thank you!
Thanks for such kind words
I’m building a new pc with Ryzen 3900 and MSi 2080 ti gaming x Trio should I get this board or the MSi unify x570 ? And really good video btw
Yes here you are. Another great review
I love it ....
Great combination!!!!
Thanks!
Unify:)... no doubt . Been torturing that thing now stop for almost a year... Good as first day !
Neither! the best choice at the moment is the Asus TUF GAMING X570-PRO (WI-FI) in the U.K. at around £190
I'd like to know how long before the chipset fan breaks down and the whole block has to be replaced.
You could always just replace the fan or take it off and place a case fan on the heatsink. Or you could probably go even fanless, at least if you don't go super crazy with m.2 ssds. I guess. I know it's an old comment but probably many other people wondering the same thing.
Salut.
Elle est très demandée. Sa version B550 est pratiquement identique. C est une très bonne option .
8:51 the audio codec is an ALC1200 not an ALC1220
How is the audio on this board? Should I buy a DAC or soundcard?
Great video man! I'm not worried about hdmi 1.4 as I will put a cheap 8gb rx 580 in that will be good until pcie 4 graphics cards are mainstream.
Just got this with a 5900x bundle! Can't wait
Same here man hahaha hype is real
Same. Hope you enjoyed it
Amazing review. I'm lucky to find your channel!! subscribed!
so do you think this is a better choice than the Gigabyte Aorus X570 Pro or Aorus X570 Ultra ? features and value wise ?
I have a problem on this motherboard, where m.2 ssd on slow 2 below can't read the existing ssd. do you have a solution?
any words on the used chipsetfan, like you did in your msi gaming edge video? would be nice to know if msi spared some bucks here or used a good 'double ball bearing' 60k h rated (marketing blabal for todays min quality standard) fan.
@Laurent's Choice with this board support M.2 Gen 4 with ryzen 5 3700x ?
I was waiting for this review a few weeks ago, but then I just jumped the gun. It's a great motherboard! Great review also!
What do you think about it ? Any issues ?
does the frozr heatsink design just spins when the motherboard is very hot? how can I figure out if this is working?
My case comes with two 3.0 USB cables would I be able to connect them both to this motherboard?
Great review. I wish I could find this motherboard to buy. How did you learn so much about electronics? What is your background? Could you update your "about" section in your channel with this info? Like someone said below, you have great content and I think you will be a huge success on youtube if you can keep putting out the great content.
Awesome review! This board is one of the best boards I've ever used and even better than some boards costing twice as much...
Hi Laurent!
Cause of your review I diceded to get this motherboard for my new PC build.
You made an excellent video about it, and I would like to see some BIOS review also if you could make.
P.S. You sir deserve a tons more subscribers!!!
How can I say no!!!!
i just got this motherboard, it says ryzen 5000 ready in the box. do i have to flash bios still?
Help! I accidentally bought an “MSI B550 gaming plus” then I saw your review before it arrived (spoiler i’m returning it)
i’ve just discovered your channel in the past few days. Based on your reviews I think I want to get a “msi mag x570 tomahawk wifi” but they are hard to find. Any chance I can get a recommendation?
At the moment the best value board like this, looks to be the Asus TUF GAMING X570-PRO (WI-FI) at around £190 opposed the the MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI at around £245 in the U.K.
Is possibly to replace wifi 6 AX200 module on motherboard X570 Tomahawk ? I have a problem after instaling official driver (code 10) on WIndows 10 and don't know what to do.
In terms of performance, the msi mag x570 tomahawk WiFi is better than gigabyte x570 aorus elite?
Thanks ☺️
Am glad to find your channel again 💯
x570 tomahawk or x570 aorus elite? and why?
Hi Monsieur Laurent, which is better of these 3: unify vs tomahawk Vs strix gaming-e? Merci
Actually a good video with some great details, subscribed.
Hello Laurent
I try find the best motherboard for my ryzen 9 5590x is to gaming and 3d

Do you thing this one is good for that?
Do you have another best sugestion ?
Thank you
Hi
I'm currently building a new PC, I have chosen the Ryzen 7 3800x and a 2070S.
Now I find myself searching the internet doing research on motherboards. Anyway, I'm curious about your opinion should I go with the MAG x570 Tomahawk or a Aorus x570 Pro or Elite.
Please in need of desperate help!
Thank you very much for this solid review. You've sealed the deal on my decision. I'm getting this Mobo!
Right behind you dude!
That makes 3 of us
That makes 4!
Make it 5.
How's Tomahawk's chipset fan noise? And any idea does it work with 3800cl14 memory? I'm wondering is Tomahawk enough or should i go with Unify? I have 5950x.
Hi, I'm planning to get a pc build that can be upgraded in the next 4-6 years and I decided on getting the B550 Tomahawk. In my country the X570 Tomahawk WiFi is 40 dollars more than the B550 Tomahawk. Should I get the X570? Thanks!
I have a Ryzen 3800XT, does this board support it natively or do I need to flash the bios in order to even use the board with my processor?
