There is something here that don't add up. Any AMD 7000 series CPU have 24 PCIe gen5 lanes. The issue with the M.2 expander on the high end board is that people spending that money are likely to have a 3+ slot GPU that renders the 2nd PCIe slot unusable with the current comedy GPU sizing. Unless you could house it in the 3rd PCIe, which looks very tight given the amount of connections that will be plugged in at the bottom there, then it becomes unusable for many.
The expander card in the 3rd (gen5 x4) slot would restrict you to only one SSD (each M.2 SSD uses 4 physical lanes). That bottom gen5 x4 slot, however, is equivalent in speed to a gen4 x8 slot or a gen3 x16. Currently, no GPU maxes this out, so providing it fits in the case etc, you could put your GPU in the 3rd slot and free up 16 gen5 lanes spread across the 1st 2 slots (16/0 or 8/8) e.g. two expander cards to add 4 more gen5 SSD's.
@@ChrisM541 I can't imagine any GPU today fitting in the bottom slot without being low profile, but the second yes that could be doable and the first slot could then hold the expander as you say.
Nice review! The 2 670e boards really only makes sense functionally if you need to run 2 GPUs and have a high-speed PCI express slot in reserve for future expansion like video capture cards. Both of these lack thunderbolt functionality (no built-in, no headers). Comparably priced gigabyte and asus models offer this.
I have a problem with a tomahawk series motherboard where realtek audio does not work even though the audio jack is inserted and detected, only a hum is heard, and a clumsy solder joint at the bottom sata port so it feels like it's going to break, and I have tried to RMA and it was rejected,
Informative video. Very descriptive. I'm running an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X on a ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS WiFi motherboard. It's been rock solid since I built it in August 2020.
Very debatable, boils down to if you believe PCIe5 will be relevant in the next 5 years. A 4090 is only "just" maxing out PCIe 3.0 now but you can absolutely get away with it. PCI 4.0 will be fine for at least the next two GPU generations, by which time you may want to move to the next new Intel or AMD socket anyway. The extra money spent on a X670 over B650 perhaps better used elsewhere.
Same. I hear bad things, but I have never had an issue with any Gigabyte products or Asrock for that matter. Never owned an MSI product. Ive actually had the most issues with Asus products.
All ATX(+) motherboards like it's still 1998 🙄 Back then you had Soundlblaster soundcard for sound and joystick connector, 1 (or 2) Network card, TV Tuner card just for fun, Video capture card to connect your video camera, all the different stuff. Nowadays though? Lonely GPU on an oversized MB. ROG Strix B660-I gaming WiFi. The next one will be AM5 though. Except Intel steps up the game with efficiency and full gaming performance at i5 level.

Nice review!
The 2 670e boards really only makes sense functionally if you need to run 2 GPUs and have a high-speed PCI express slot in reserve for future expansion like video capture cards.
Both of these lack thunderbolt functionality (no built-in, no headers). Comparably priced gigabyte and asus models offer this.
you guys always do the best reviews
well this isnt really a review, but thanks regardless.
I have the ACE. It's a great board. I'm not 100% pleased with it however and at the money i paid (big Dollarydoo's) that's a problem.
I like that ace.
It’s a very Good board
I have a problem with a tomahawk series motherboard where realtek audio does not work even though the audio jack is inserted and detected, only a hum is heard, and a clumsy solder joint at the bottom sata port so it feels like it's going to break, and I have tried to RMA and it was rejected,
What country are you in ?
Meg Ace $679 in US as of 5/2/24
Informative video. Very descriptive. I'm running an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X on a ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS WiFi motherboard. It's been rock solid since I built it in August 2020.
Glad it helped!
This video is weird AF, X770 is coming with Zen5. MSI is being sneaky to clear old X670 stocks?
Why would one choose any from MSI at all?
Great boards thats why. owned a lot of them in the past. ACE in particular is brilliant
I’d like to see gigabyte and ASUS boards too
Thanks. That was cool review.👍
Glad you liked it!
That ace board is unreal. Next level. 😮
X670 is king if you want the most out of your 9 series cpu
Very debatable, boils down to if you believe PCIe5 will be relevant in the next 5 years. A 4090 is only "just" maxing out PCIe 3.0 now but you can absolutely get away with it. PCI 4.0 will be fine for at least the next two GPU generations, by which time you may want to move to the next new Intel or AMD socket anyway. The extra money spent on a X670 over B650 perhaps better used elsewhere.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
nice
Thanks
I tend to have the best experience with gigabyte motherboards. After that, a far second is between msi and asus.
interesting to hear - which board are you using now?
@@KitGuruTech main 2 builds have a x670 elite ax and b650 pro ax
Same. I hear bad things, but I have never had an issue with any Gigabyte products or Asrock for that matter. Never owned an MSI product. Ive actually had the most issues with Asus products.
@rickgear2579 Yeah, my local microcenter pushes asus hard, but they have the most returns on them, so go figure. Tons of prime and tuf boards.
Yeah my last two ASUS boards failed. Have an MSI ace and it’s been great. Almost went with Asrock board but I heard poor things about RMA
That B650 is a pretty decent spec for the money quite good value. For an AMD board that is.
MSI on a marketing push to distract from their awful Claw, I suspect.
lol quite a stretch. They have been making motherboards for quite a long time.
All ATX(+) motherboards like it's still 1998 🙄
Back then you had Soundlblaster soundcard for sound and joystick connector, 1 (or 2) Network card, TV Tuner card just for fun, Video capture card to connect your video camera, all the different stuff. Nowadays though? Lonely GPU on an oversized MB.
ROG Strix B660-I gaming WiFi. The next one will be AM5 though. Except Intel steps up the game with efficiency and full gaming performance at i5 level.
Could you possibly say MSI just one more time ….other motherboards are available
You do realise this is in the title? its a look at three MSI motherboards? How can you miss the title of the video and then take time to write that out?
I thought the title was “which to buy?” Came across as an extended MSI advert more than anything else., the m/b being not the only MSI items mentioned
@@LifeIsButaBluff Its a showcase video, we toggled on the paid for content button at start to show this. Its not a review - its a showcase highlighting features, I/O, board layout, ports, product support and overall what you get for your money. It is not a review of each board and there is no indepth testing - correct.
If we get time we will review some more motherboards - but each board takes weeks to analyse to the level we would be happy publishing as a full on 'review' video.
While not a full review, we do show features in this video for the three boards, differentiating features, between three price points. Some people have found it useful based on comments, but if you want an indepth analysis of MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS and ASROCK boards - then yes, this video is not for you.
MSI forgot to include USB4 on their AM5 motherboards 😂
Seriously? I have to check that. Sounds crazy. I was almost guaranteed to buy MSI for my next build.
With curent bios and expo i will stay away from msi.
Clearly no MSI, their motherboards are killing m2 ssd... and their customer support sucks
I always found their customer support good when I needed it. Maybe country specific.
@@amdforlife5591 in the US they are really rude...
I wouldn't buy any of them, I hate MSi. I'd much rather buy an ASRock X670E PG Lightning.
None of them they are MSI..
Finish off with a rip-off Nvidia GPU..
My final buying decision would be Asus..
Really ? I had so many issues with my last ASUS board. Wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole.
ASUS? no chance. corrupt company
