Hello, I have a specific question: Best boards i can chose from are: MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WIFI MSI PRO X870-P WIFI Which would you recommend, the PRO X870 is even 30€ cheaper for me. Thanks for your help!
MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi $280 for a Ryzen 9900x, when building a new system I'd much rather spend a couple more dollars and get latest gen and hopefully get at least 5 years out of it.
If I look at the AM5 motherboards, I cry and I remember buying in April 2019 my current ASRock B450 HDV 4.0 for $59.99. During next week I will replace my Ryzen 2 2200G; 16GB (3000MHz) with a Ryzen 5 5600GT; 32GB (3200MHz) and I intend to keep the motherboard at least till 2030. I'm a collector! I have all Windows releases from 1.04 (1987) to 11 Pro (now) in a VM and the same is true for all Ubuntu LTS Releases from 6.06 LTS to 24.04 LTS plus 4.10 (the first); 5.04 (my first) and 24.10 the 20 years remembrance version :) :).
I will still be rocking my ASRock B650 Steel Legend. I got it at launch for $ 178. It is actually a 650E as it supports Pcle 5,Insane Vrams with high-end audio with 10 connectivity slots, you can not find this motherboard anywhere now,not in the U.S. anyway
@markoselendic3690 send me that link. The cheapest I have been able to get the B650E for is $239,that is $60 more that I paid for the B650,I would get the Tiachi or Riptide for that price increase
I was going with the Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX V2 for my build, but then the Gigabyte X870 Gaming Wifi6 came on sale and they are now the same price, so I'm probably going with the X870 unless anyone can give me good reasons not to. :D Thanks for the video! All your videos have been really helpful picking out parts for my build. Will be the first new PC I get since 2016 so I should see some good improved performance.
In a “best” video I am surprised the nova phantom x870e and the asrock taichi x870e. Yea they are pricey, but not crazy like asus. But the design of the no compromise slots where they aren’t stealing bandwidth from the gpu is amazing!

Just bought 9800x3d with X870e Aurous Elite wifi 7, absolutely brilliant with the auto tuning on that x3d chip. Also came with compatible bios out of the box, still updated it for the x3d OC features
Bios f3f? I bought mine based off reviews like kitguru that I saw was using f3e but it's been pulled from the support page. Only f3f and f3a. I uploaded a short 12sec video on my page about f3f
Thank you so much for this video! I've been nonstop looking at motherboards for days now not knowing what to choose. I ended up getting a bundle on Newegg Canada with a 7600x and Asus TUF B650 plus WiFi for $510 after shipping, duties and taxes. I was expecting to spend around $600 so that's pretty hype! I'll be throwing that extra money in the savings jar for a 5000 series GPU.

Just built a new system with the 9800x3d. I initially ordered a MSI X670E Tomhawk but then sent it back and got the MSI X870 Tomahawk instead for 30$ more. Several reasons why x870 VS x670e :1) the x870 is newer, possibly longer term support ; 2) more usb ports total; 3) pci quick release for GPU - this alone is worth 30usd if you've ever been really frustrated to get the old gpu out of there; 4) usb 4 ; 5) wifi 7; 6) newer audio I would say to people looking at getting a new motherboard sure maybe there is no one key feature in x870 that alone justifies it over a x670 or similar but as a whole it could make all the difference.

Will that setup work or should I look into purchasing a DAC instead of relying on the monitor to do the sound conversion?

What I like about the motherboard is the software for Intel Killer Wifi. You can disable many Windows functions via Game Fast option to reduce lag in games and prevent Windows from updating especially Windows defender and update.
Jason I am a little confused, when you did the video about the 7800X3d mother boards and combo you spoke about the Asus B650 E Steel legend so I got it in a good deal about £200. However I bought the 9800X3D and seems you changed Mother boards to ASUS PRIME X670E-PRO WIFI around £250 , in your opinion this prime is better? I can return it and buy the prime. What do you think Jason?
Not that price isn't good. The X870 Steel Legend is currently 235 in the UK and would be better if looking for a White Motherboard, though the Gigabyte B650E AORUS ELITE X AX ICE is currently 180 in the UK which is a nice deal right now.

for me went with x870 as the b650 cost same if not more than the x870 at least i get usb 4 and newer model, retailers sees people buy old boards and they price it higher just do your research before buying
Daughter said she wanted a new computer for Xmas so we bit the bullet and ordered a B650E AORUS STEALTH ICE which has reverse connectors. What are you thoughts on the reverse connector Mobo's Jason?

Hi Jason, im just about to buy a 9800x3d, 7900xtx 24gb using this monitor "Alienware AW3225QF 32 Inch 4K UHD (3840x2160) 1700R Curved Gaming Monitor, 240Hz, QD OLED" should i use the display port or hdmi 2.1 connection? or the usb 3.2 gen 1 .MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI: ATX w/ PCIe 5.0, WiFi 6E, USB 3.2, 4x M.2 board. Im trying to figure out which will allow me to get the best display and performance what would you recommend? thanks in advance, great videos!
Good morning Jason crew and kitties! Great content as usual! it’s funny, I’m patrolling around and I’m putting my computer together with with your suggestions in my mind… come on 2025 video cards!! ( maybe)🤔
You need to differentiate the M.2 to the CPU vs through the (overloaded) chipset. Direct to the CPU gives 4 dedicated PCIe lanes per drive. Via the chipset makes umpteen devices share 4 lanes.
Thanks for your cpu video last week. I was able to get a good deal on 9600x, Asus B650E-F & ram. Thanks to Newegg combo deal I got $15 each off the ram and cpu. Also got $60 off the motherboard plus the free 1tb ssd. Unfortunately it is no longer available and the board gone up in price.
Budget builder should use APU's instead of regular CPU's. that way you can save in the video options. I have several B450 builds and they all have APU's. for basic use, these work fine. Ryzen 5 5600G are recomended as the hexcore processor works well...
Any thoughts on the B650 steel legend (I know you mentioned not loving the x870)? I find them in stock at 180 from time to time, but not sure how it stacks up to the tomahawk
I'm still waiting on my 9800X3d and I've been looking at the X870 Tomahawk and the X670E Tomahawk because a lot of redditors and youtubers seem to agree that it's a good board, if only a bit expensive which isn't an issue. If I'm not worried about cost, wouldn't it still be worth it to get a mobo that has the PCIe 5.0 slot if I'm already planning on getting the new 50 series card?
Hi Jason, you've really sold me on the ASUS Prime X670E with this and the build video prior, but having a hard time deciding between it and the MSI MPG Z790 Edge Ti Max WiFi as they're the same price in Canada. According to some sites it seems to perform better, despite having to go to intel, would the jump in performance be worth it?
So I looked at prices in Canada and I would actually go MSI Pro B650-A WIFI ATX over the ASUS Prime X670E. It's a newer Motherboard but has good reviews and a similar look to the ASUS.
I came looking for a good recommendation for a passively cooled X570 board since I'm running out of replacement chipset fans for my Asrock X570 Taichi. Just put a 5700x3D in it since I plan on sitting out on am5 but my chipset fan is grinding again, I already replaced it once and only have one spare fan left.
I ended up getting the MSI X870 Tomahawk for my 9800x3d whats the opinion? Im waiting for a stable build of bios before I update bios for it so I might be losing out on some performance from what Im understanding via MSI and reddit?
Thank you so much for making such a video. I was just looking for a similar Video on youtube and your video poped up. Really Thank you and God Bless you
also dont blow money on pcie 5 components..not unless youre doing serious work for it..just pick up an wd sn850x at 250 for 4tb..pcie 4..but lets be honest..who needs pcie 5 other than workers
Didn't really see much that i could use sadly. My case is a matx case, most use itx boards in it but matx fits, i need a creator matx or more preferably itx creator board, with at very least wifi and 1 5.0 m2 nvme slot preferably 2. But 4.0 works as second drive as its for projects
Hey Jason, I wanted your thoughts on monitors. I really like curved monitors 1440 p and also 240 Hz. I have a samsung odyssey g7 and the msi 1440 p 165 monitor you recommended a year ago. I want to replace one with a oled but specifically curved with 1440 p and prefer 240 Hz. I narrowed it down to these 2 unless you recommend something else. Would love your thoughts lg 34gs95qe-b vs msi mpg 341cqpx I have a 4080 and a 14900 K, wish I had 7800 X3D but yeah. I play both competive games and graphic intensive games. Will still use monitor on the side. Also love your content. Thanks for all you do for us.

For my pc I first bought a cheap b550 micro-atx it kinda broke so now I got an atx a little more expensive, hopefully I won't need to upgrade for a long time
What do you think about the MSI X670E MAG Tomahawk WiFi with a 7950x3d ? Micro center is having a bundle and I want to know if these actually work well together, let me know your thoughts thanks! Thanks for the perfectly timed video!
@ thank you I appreciate it! Yeah I’m going to be using blender, doing video editing and trying my hand at some game design so I wanted something that could do all that plus enjoy some gaming on my off time
Hey, I was wondering if you think its not worth the money I save buying the 7700x microcenter bundle that comes with the Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX v2? My build is gonna have a 7900xt and Ive heard some people say that my lower tier motherboard will be bad for my build. What are thoughts? Id just like to save a little bit of money
No that's a totally fine Motherboard, but just note the 9700X Bundle is only $30 more I'd get that instead. Unless you're just using it for Gaming then I'd say get the 7600X3D Bundle.
Between this channel and gamersnexus i can always find the info i need. You are doing a phenomenal job, keep it up! (and you have saved me and my family SO much on windows and office keys! 🍻)
whats the final answer for the b650 steel legend wifi, does it have pcie 5.0 and they misspelled the manual? or does it not have it and every store just put it on their page because of miscommunication?
i dont understand one part: i really struggle finding motherboards that have headers for usb 3.2 AND USB type c below like 150. even though most modern cases have one or more normal type A USB 3.2 sockets and at least 1 usb type c. it makes it really difficult to build budget pc's in these cases
I have ~$500 to upgrade my pc (2600 & 1070ti) should i go for the microcenter $399 7600x3d bundle and get a psu upgrade for a future gpu, or go for a 7800xt and wait until i can get the microcenter bundle
Unfortunately either way you'll be Bottlenecked. So no matter what you chose hopefully you'll be able to upgrade other parts soon. You could also go 5700X3D on the CPU so save a little vs going for the 7600X3D Bundle.
Am I just used to laptops? I just finished a Project Zero B650 7600X 7800XT build this week. I love the system except the startup time. I get no signal for like 45 seconds before the mobo lights blink and the PZ logo pops and the Windows wheel starts spinning. With any new build, frequent restarts happened due to tuning which felt like it took hours longer than it needed to. Is quick startup a laptop only thing? Between work and home, this is the first desktop I've used in over a decade. This is my first desktop on SSD if that says anything. But my basic 2022 laptop is practically at Wlogin by the time the screen is opened. I looked for options in bios and Windows but didnt find anything. Pretty annoying.
I always like these episodes on fundamental things a lot, and this channel always remains a fundamental reference for us who love personal computers. 🤗
To resume (great video btw): AM4 (Ryzen 1XXX to 5XXX) B450 good budget B520 (avoid) B550 good budget build who doesn't bottleneck high-end components like B450 does. AM5 (Ryzen 7XXX to 12XXX, next gen will be on AM5 so I'm writing 12XXX) B620 (Avoid) B650 (ATX) good budget/high-end (usually in most cases) X670/E great high-end board (usually useless for most user) X870 Great """budget""" high-end board (Some model are trash tho) Get the latest tech (USB4/Lan 5Gb/Wifi7/Bluetooth 5.4/etc) at the accessible price of ±250-300 €/$ X870E high-end board (useless for most user, capable of achieving what's impossible on some boards) Note than some board can self bottleneck if you use too much USB/M.2 slot/PCIe slot
Ok have a question to see if people can help me out here. My current build is a 3800x, rx 5700xt and 16gb of ram. I'm thinking of upgrading rn to a 5700x3d and 7900 gre with 32gbs ram but I could instead get a laptop (zen4 r7 and rx 7700 xt mobile) and then upgrade later, how much would tariffs impact me in the US? Would it be smarter to do my upgrades now and wait until deals come back later into next year for a laptop, or do the opposite?
I would do the PC Upgrades now. The 5700X3D and 7900GRE would be a good upgrade for you. Just note the 7800XT is at a good price right now if you wanted to choose that over the 7900GRE.
Would love to see a bit more focus on Mini-ITX, as a lot of us are space constrained. On the Mini ITX front why not put a mention out to the ASROCK A620i Lightning Wifi - Thats on for $119.99 at Newegg. Sure you lack the ability to overclock, however in a Mini PC setup your often cooling restrained anyway so Overclock is likely not much of an option anyway. whichever way you cut it its nearly half the price of your recommended M-ITX board, thats a big saving.
I personally wouldn't recommend a board that doesn't allow for PBO even in a Mini ITX. See our Mini ITX build guide on the channel for more. But to each their own of course!
I want 4k 240 fps capable on my next PC in games like space Marine 2 just waiting for possible new LG tvs or Sony to make a giant gaming tv with 240hrtz

@@TheGandsta1 Momentarily on ASUS PRIME X670E PRO WIFI, but it's not discounted here in Eastern Europe, it's a little over $300
for me went with x870 as the b650 cost same if not more than the x870 at least i get usb 4 and newer model, retailers sees people buy old boards and they price it higher just do your research before buying
I subbed because your videos are informative and efficient, straight to the point and real info most average pc users understand.
Thank you and thanks for the sub! Hope you keep enjoying the content
22:33 What do you think about the micro atx version of this board? Been eyeing a Microcenter bundle with the 7600x and the Tuf Gaming b650m plus wifi
Should be fine, just note the 9600X is only $30 more but unsure how much better that CPU is.
Daughter said she wanted a new computer for Xmas so we bit the bullet and ordered a B650E AORUS STEALTH ICE which has reverse connectors. What are you thoughts on the reverse connector Mobo's Jason?
Hey! How about the ASRock B650 Steel Legend Wifi ??
And is it good for the R7 9800X3D?
Good board but its been completely out of stock! If you can find it at a good price that's fine. The MSI Tomahawk would be my pick over it
Better to get the asus tuff gaming 670e plus wifi for 200 on bestbuy
@@PCBuilderChannel thanks for the advice!
@@PCBuilderChannel Why the tomohawk over the Steel Legend? Seen many advice Steel Legend over the Tomohawk? The Steel Legend is in stock where i live and excatly the same price as the Tomohawk
The Tomahawk has better rear panel connectivity and audio
Exactly what I needed! Putting a build together for my brother :)
Exciting! Best wishes on the build and glad I could help!
@PCBuilderChannel thank you! Always appreciate your videos!
YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO HELPFUL BEEN STRESSING FINDING A MOTHER BOARD THANK YOU SO MUCH I LOVE YOU❤❤
Good morning Jason crew and kitties! Great content as usual! it’s funny, I’m patrolling around and I’m putting my computer together with with your suggestions in my mind… come on 2025 video cards!! ( maybe)🤔
Good morning William!! Going to be a great build!
@ 😎
Just brought B550 -F by Asus Rog Strix got cheap Amazon brought Ryzen 5900x also cheap bio flash it everything good so far 👍 I'm happy with it 😀
Nice!
you make it look so easy explaining all this! just what i needed cuz i was getting lost in all the A-B-BxxxE-X- series !
Its super confusing! So glad we could help!
I had the Asrock Nova X870E, but ended up returning it to Newegg. It felt like overkill for my needs. So instead I grabbed the ASUS ROG B650E-F.
For the midrange b650 what’s better the asus or msi?
I'd say MSI
You need to differentiate the M.2 to the CPU vs through the (overloaded) chipset.
Direct to the CPU gives 4 dedicated PCIe lanes per drive.
Via the chipset makes umpteen devices share 4 lanes.
Thanks for your cpu video last week. I was able to get a good deal on 9600x, Asus B650E-F & ram. Thanks to Newegg combo deal I got $15 each off the ram and cpu. Also got $60 off the motherboard plus the free 1tb ssd. Unfortunately it is no longer available and the board gone up in price.
Glad you got what you needed!!
Great board, personally I prefer the Tomahawk due to audio and rear panel but its solid if you like the look and don't mind the difference
The X870 Tomahawk should be good in that's what you want, and the price isn't terrible.
@@kelley09162hey I really appreciate the recommendation! Checked it out and will go with this if I go AMD. Cheers!
Hope this was helpful!
Would you go for the x670e tomahawk or the x670e ASUS prime for someone trying to both game and stream with their pc
I think the Tomahawk is better and I think Jason would say the same.
I was just watching your old Ryzen motherboard videos earlier as I needed a new board and cpu. Stop reading my mind!!
Oh no they are onto us! (;
Glad we can help!
Now that I think about it, is the B650 Mortar WiFi Motherboard a good board? Since it has not been shown in this video, hmm...
I ended up getting the MSI X870 Tomahawk for my 9800x3d whats the opinion? Im waiting for a stable build of bios before I update bios for it so I might be losing out on some performance from what Im understanding via MSI and reddit?
Should be a good choice
Thank you so much for making such a video. I was just looking for a similar Video on youtube and your video poped up. Really Thank you and God Bless you
No problem! Good luck on your build!
So was the best for gaming but video editing as well?
ASRock Taichi lite is sold out on newegg. Also the MSI Expert 4080 super is sold out. Everyones buying up the good stuff.
I miss when a digital audio connector was basically standard on most motherboards. Now it is a "premium" feature that adds 50 bucks to the price.
im thinking about getting the gigabyte x870 aorus elite ice, my build is 9950x, 64gb ddr5 and 4080 super, 2 pcie 5 m.2
honestly suprised your didnt wait for black well or the 8800xt
also dont blow money on pcie 5 components..not unless youre doing serious work for it..just pick up an wd sn850x at 250 for 4tb..pcie 4..but lets be honest..who needs pcie 5 other than workers
@ i do heavy photos and video editing. currently have a normal build with ryzen 2700x and 1650 lol and its killing me
How about Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX V2 and Asrock B650 Steel Legend Wifi?
Would love your thoughts
lg 34gs95qe-b vs msi mpg 341cqpx
I have a 4080 and a 14900 K, wish I had 7800 X3D but yeah. I play both competive games and graphic intensive games. Will still use monitor on the side.
Also love your content. Thanks for all you do for us.
The MSI has good reviews so I would choose that
You should check out our Best 1440p Gaming Monitor video! We cover our thoughts on OLED there and I just finished updating the recommendation links in the description for sales. Look for the ones marked with a fire emoji.
Mini itx boards for intel 12 to 14gen,am5 were pricy and so thats why i went B550 amd but there also not much to choose and scarce.got asrock am4
For my pc I first bought a cheap b550 micro-atx it kinda broke so now I got an atx a little more expensive, hopefully I won't need to upgrade for a long time
I just picked up the x670e for 100 bucks off. It’s a better board than the x870
What do you think about the MSI X670E MAG Tomahawk WiFi with a 7950x3d ?
Micro center is having a bundle and I want to know if these actually work well together, let me know your thoughts thanks! Thanks for the perfectly timed video!
Yes good combo though Jason prefers the 7800X3D or 9800X3D to the 7950X3D.
@ thank you I appreciate it! Yeah I’m going to be using blender, doing video editing and trying my hand at some game design so I wanted something that could do all that plus enjoy some gaming on my off time
@@Mr.universe219 oh that's fair. It's too bad they don't have a 9900X Bundle.
X870 Tomahawk for $480 AUD
OR
X670E Pro Wifi ASUS Prime for $395 AUD
9950x build
Hey, I was wondering if you think its not worth the money I save buying the 7700x microcenter bundle that comes with the Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX v2? My build is gonna have a 7900xt and Ive heard some people say that my lower tier motherboard will be bad for my build. What are thoughts? Id just like to save a little bit of money
No that's a totally fine Motherboard, but just note the 9700X Bundle is only $30 more I'd get that instead.
Unless you're just using it for Gaming then I'd say get the 7600X3D Bundle.
I have a Tomahawk 450 motherboard, what CPU would you recommend?
Depends on what your GPU is
Between this channel and gamersnexus i can always find the info i need. You are doing a phenomenal job, keep it up! (and you have saved me and my family SO much on windows and office keys! 🍻)
So glad to have helped! Thanks for the feedback it means a lot
@PCBuilderChannel you definitely help. I'll be using your vids to pick out parts for another build in jan or feb
whats the final answer for the b650 steel legend wifi, does it have pcie 5.0 and they misspelled the manual? or does it not have it and every store just put it on their page because of miscommunication?
*Can you recommend Motherboards that have the Wi-fi 7 standard? This is all old tech man.* 😅
X870 Motherboards come with Wi-Fi 7 if that's what you want.
Thank god for this video I was gonna buy a motherboard based on your last video but a more recent one will help me make a better decision.
i gto a beautiful a seriers 500 series board for you bro..whats your telegram!
So glad this was helpful!
How did you not mention the Gigabye B650E Stealth? it’s the most beautiful board right now
i dont understand one part: i really struggle finding motherboards that have headers for usb 3.2 AND USB type c below like 150. even though most modern cases have one or more normal type A USB 3.2 sockets and at least 1 usb type c. it makes it really difficult to build budget pc's in these cases
msib650m had 4 boards all had problems with customer builds so upgraded all of them.
Curious about the ROG STRIX X870-I as an am5 option for mini-itx
Can’t find many reviews on it
Considering the price it's not worth it in my opinion
Super informative, well done!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
Was going for the x870 for the production side but it getting sold out. Likewise 9800x3d is sold out too =/
Jason... Please give us your november best pc builds guide 🥺🥺🥺 i NEED IT!!!!
Check out our "after you build setup guide" to make sure you've got everything how you want it.
Thanks dude 👍🏽
You bet! Thanks for watching!
I am curious Jason, I am upgrading to a 9800x3d from a 7700x. Do I need to reinstall windows 11?
You don't HAVE to,but you can for your piece of mind,if you want to.
Check out our "how to upgrade your pc 2024" video! We go over this all there in detail
Is the b650e Taichi worth getting for $265? Is there any other mother boards that compare to the taichi for less money?
I don't think so because you can find X870 Motherboards for that price or you can go regular B650 for less.
@@kelley09162alright, thanks for letting me know.
I always like these episodes on fundamental things a lot, and this channel always remains a fundamental reference for us who love personal computers. 🤗
Thank you! The feedback means a lot
To resume (great video btw):
AM4 (Ryzen 1XXX to 5XXX)
B450 good budget
B520 (avoid)
B550 good budget build who doesn't bottleneck high-end components like B450 does.
AM5 (Ryzen 7XXX to 12XXX, next gen will be on AM5 so I'm writing 12XXX)
B620 (Avoid)
B650 (ATX) good budget/high-end (usually in most cases)
X670/E great high-end board (usually useless for most user)
X870 Great """budget""" high-end board (Some model are trash tho) Get the latest tech (USB4/Lan 5Gb/Wifi7/Bluetooth 5.4/etc) at the accessible price of ±250-300 €/$
X870E high-end board (useless for most user, capable of achieving what's impossible on some boards)
Note than some board can self bottleneck if you use too much USB/M.2 slot/PCIe slot
Additional note:
USB 1.0 : White
USB 2.0 : Black
USB 3.0 : Blue
USB 3.2/USB 3.2 Gen 2x2: Usually light blue to red, can be sometimes orange.
Hey Jason, How about MSI B650m Gaming plus Wifi for $158??? Is it worth it over Asrock hdv mobo???
I would say so yes
That board isn't sold much in the US so I don't know it well personally.
Essential video for a modern build! 💯
Thank you Thomas!! Hope you are having a great weekend!
But to each their own of course!
im going with the B650E PG RIPTIDE with the 9800x3d hopefully it works
Fine board! For the price its not competitive with the premium boards I recommend here but if you've found it at a great price thats fine.
I want 4k 240 fps capable on my next PC in games like space Marine 2 just waiting for possible new LG tvs or Sony to make a giant gaming tv with 240hrtz
Recommend getting a new GPU now because of Sales or wait out for RTX 5000 and RX 8000
Really depends on you! See our Black Friday GPU Prices video we go over out thoughts on this in detail there
Great video Jason ❤
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
