@Tadas Nanartonis i read the tl;dw on the description. Thanks a lot!
In short: with 3rd gen, memory doesn't that important and latency(that 16-18-18-36 thing) more important than frequency(MHz)
@Tadas Nanartonis Thank you!
You should check out buildzoids videos about ram frequencies, it's more clear and a lot less yelling
Just check the motherboards QVL for RAM compatibility and pick the speed you want.

Same
TL:DR,
If you run 1:1 using the base clock of your RAM and matching the infinity fabric speed, (2400 RAM and 1200 IF, for example) you will get a very stable performance that will improve as you reach higher RAM speeds. If you go over/under the 1:1 ratio, then make sure to adjust your RAM timing to compensate for latency.
How do i do that, i got 5900x now, just put Corsair LPX 2400mhz(from the old system) on the correct timings and voltage but the ratio is still at 1:12. This ram will go on sale with the old parts and i will have to get new ones, thinking of 32gb of 3200mhz or 3600mhz (from what i saw there is no notable difference between them in performance) but i can't get my head on how to solve the infinity stuff or with what ram does it work.

@@wotever99ninynine as I commented, I wish people would stop getting tricked into believing that RAM overclocking or "gaming RAM" is going to impact their performance. You should get a reliable and decent RAM kit for sure, but having the best CPU/GPU combo that you can afford and as much RAM as possible is always better.
I've had my own custom computer since the Athlon x2 and I've never bothered getting into RAM overclock since most of the performance gains are basically from overclocking the CPU and GPU due to impact of the internal cache has over external "slow" RAM has.
You are always better off having more RAM then faster RAM in a day to day basis.
If RAW speed is what you want then sure go for it, buy the ultimate overclocking kit...but just like the "insane" CPU overclock often run on one or two sticks or RAM, you'll find out that it's easier to face instability and you having to compromise on some stuff (dual vs quad channel).
I'm not saying that you won't see any improvement, I'm just saying that you'll be better off having a 32GB RAM disk with 20GB of cache on your SSD and still have 12GB spare for the OS @2100-3200, compared to getting a 16GB kitt of 4200Mhz @ 6969Mhz Inifinityswags.

It goes without saying that we have to use the pause button if we want to read all the data... A load of useful info for anyone wanting to build a good AMD gaming rig...
This was a very informative video but considering low latencies and higher infinity fabric clock speeds seem to matter more, it might be better just to spend less on the RAM and buy a better CPU or GPU with that extra cash. Also I don't think the differences are that dramatic especially with a lot of the workstation benchmarks. Now this does have an advantage over Intel atleast I would assume because RAM can be further optimized for better performance.
I'm just a casual so it doesn't matter all that much to me. If I got a Ryzen 9 3900X and 16GB of only 2400MHz RAM, I would not be complaining! The guts of the processor and the amount of RAM matters way more and contributes like 90% of the overall performance, no?

And everyone else has great knowledge and skills in their fields and plays their roles well in creating great content as a team. But Anthony is quite clearly the IT wizard of the shop, presumably keeping everyone else’s tools working properly. And he still manages to make excellent content himself, even if he’s not presenting it. Got 3600MHz/CL14 running on my 3700X/Crosshair VI Hero combo without any problems via the Ryzen DRAM Calculator. That's using four 8GB sticks too. Seems like the sweet spot for Zen 2.
the size and number of sticks depends more on the board than the chip
Brad Haines no it’s the CPU, more sticks strains the memory controller, which is on the CPU, not the board...
For instance, good luck getting his speeds to work on Intel 8700k or 7700k, their memory controllers kind of top out around 4000-4200 for really good memory controller binning on those CPUs and with 4 sticks that’s going to put too much load to run above 3600 (so they probably won’t run that tight of timings).
The board is just traces at this point (preferably you use 2 slot only boards for best overclocking thanks to more optimized EMI layout due to its simple nature and shorter trace runs, it’s just easier with half the wiring)
Crosshair VI Hero has T-Topology memory layout, so it doesn't really matter whether you have 2x or 4x 8GiB sticks.
Agree T topology mobo is good for 4 dimms.
The DRAM calculator looks helpful! Thanks Linus 🤓

Sometimes even the automatic settings fail. When I want to fill all four slots on my board (B350, 2200G), I have to manually underclock the RAM while each of the pairs alone runs at 3200 without problem. This might be a problem of the CPU but is nevertheless annoying.

I know everyone always talks about amd and ram but I have intel and have been using 4600 at 4000 (what my motherboard likes) for over a year and the FPS increase is ridiculous def worth the money
i agree with you .i buy 2x16Gb 3200Mhz for 232$ ,ram 3600Mhz is more expensive by 50%
I am literally selling my laptop and purchasing a ryzen 3rd gen over the next few months so this is really really helpful! thank you so much Linus for this and all your other videos
Results vary by game as well as generation of components. For instance, I was playing Escape from Tarkov with 2133mz ram. Went up to 3600mhz and it made a surprisingly noticeable difference. Of course that is a major upgrade but other games didnt benefit from the upgrade as much as Escape from Tarkov. Crazy thing, I didnt realize I was clocked at 2133mhz. I forgot xmp and was dragging along at that speed. Yes, a newbie oversight. I selected profile 1 under xmp in BIOS to bring it up to the native speed of the ram and wow, what a difference! I had heard that motherboard didnt support 3600mhz ram but that was incorrect. I think many people had problems with the Ryzen 5 2600. Perhaps since mine is a Ryzen 5 3600 I didnt run into trouble. After updating the BIOS I was in the clear. I checked it with AMD Adrenaline and Task Manager, everything seemed to work perfectly. I elected to undervolt to cool down the GPU since it ran on the hotter side. I saw no performance dips at this resolution. G. SKILL Trident Z DDR4 3600mhz ram was a great choice, and I got them on sale at Microcenter for around $100 for a 16gb (Dual 8 gb) set with some slight RGB LEDs on the heatsink. Ryzen 5 3600, 5700xt Sapphire Pulse (Slightly undervolted), WD blue m.2 250 gb, 1 tb QVO 860, 1 tb HDD from Seagate, Win 10 Home, Powerspec case with 1 intake fan and 1 outtake fan (On sale at Microcenter for a steal), b450m DS3H motherboard, two monitors, 1 MSI 144hz 1080p (Couldnt afford the 1440p ones they had in inventory), 1 Dell 75 hz monitor is my 2nd screen, and a 650w 80 plus Powerspec Gold psu, and it doesnt even come that close to using that much power. At first I thought 650w might be too low but I was wrong. I'm extremely happy with the performance. My system boots lightning fast and the wd blue performs decently for the price, as does the qvo. Honestly it runs buttery smooth and it was on the cheaper side since it was on sale. The two fan setup actually gives it plenty of room to breathe along with minimal cable management. I typically am maxed out at 144hz/1080p on almost any game, highest settings, with tons of mods. On Skyrim SE I have over 500 mods, while Fallout 4 has around 200. Great setup! Also it was, to my surprise, extremely quiet. I would highly recommend Sapphire for the 5700xt. I chose the Pulse myself but hear great things about Nitro nowadays. I've had no problems with any of the AMD drivers or software. Not one. Although I purchased after that stuff had been ironed out.
tl/dr: XMP is your friend and higher ram speed can make a huge difference with raw throughput and correct latency troubles, but depends on mobo, what game youre playing, and the generation of the other pc components.
I went with the cheapest 3200 memory I could find, which ended up being Corsair Vengeance LPX Black CL16 3200, works like a charm :) OTOH, it was not very expensive so I ended up getting another 2x8GB kit, ending up at 32GB :)
Oh look, it's the same Ting recording we see everywhere...
Poor Anthony!
Anthony: But... I love doing this!
Well.... okay then! 👍 You're awesome for all your hard work!
Only recently built a new Zen+ based rig (R5 2600, which is super cheap right now. Would've gone for third gen if I could afford it), and I'm glad I chose to go with low latency 3200mHz RAM. Even though I had a very tight budget, I decided it would be best to go with half decent RAM straight away, due to the infinity fabric's dependence on it. Now, to save up for a new graphics card!
"OH MY GOD, I'M SO BORED" Lol! I was watching that exact video, thought something very similar and clicked the link here instead :D
lol i did the exact same
some constructive criticism to the editor, the music in this video was a little too loud/distracting, I had to check my pc to see if I was accidentally listening to Spotify. Specifically after 3:20 it was too loud
Very nice review! Is this also relevant for the lower core ryzen procs like the R5 3600?
yes, the controller is the same, but the infinity fabric might not clock so high, because I guess AMD binns it. 1800MHz should be possible but dont expect more than that
Yes. All Ryzen 3000 series use the same IO chiplet/memory controller.
It's relevant for all Ryzen products since they all have the Infinity Fabric structure unlike Intel which turns off it's Hyperthreading structure for certain CPUs.
@@garrertthenze4378 Infinity Fabric isn't equivalent to Hyperthreading, SMT is. All Ryzen CPUs have infinity fabric, but not all have SMT.
Yup. Already going x570 Crosshair VIII, 32gb trident royal 3600 cl16 and a 3700x. Gonna wait for sales next month and its back to hardware mode for the holidays.
Hm, the charts are not representing what he is saying at all. You get the feeling that someone told him about the results and information got lost between the testing and this video.
AMAZING PERFORMANCE INCREASE!
3 fps increase
@@OAcessoPublico thing is when your ram affects FPS in games by 3-5 more this means its even faster while running other types of programms that are memory heavy, say 3Dfx/3D modeling aps and/or movie editing, etc.
I already have 2 weeks with my Ryzen 3rd time to watch this video and find out where did I mess up lol
4:00 "...locked Anthony in a room until he was finish testing them." :D
Lots of twitch streamers have been getting mem errors because of g skills memory (probably bc of temp sensitive b die). Instead I opted for something half the price and way more reliable. I got crucial ballistix 3600 c16 and i ocd it to 3800 16-18-16-16-36 with tight subtimings (except trfc is pretty high @546) but it hasn’t caused a single crash. Stability and reliability are just as important.
I would love to see some reviews on g skills 3800 cl14 sticks that recently launched. I have my eyes set on a 3900x and would love to see performance on this memory config at that kind of speed and timing.
Literally bought my new CPU yesterday!(3600)
Mark Fitz PCMR AMD sucks. Disgrace to PCMR
ChloeWade right... Besides performance of course.
@@FlopFan69 stfu shintel butthurt fan
@@FlopFan69 bruh amd is tied with intel right now with their new 3rd gen and if not better. Do your research stupid
Derby Mods AMD performance sucks lol

RUclips: Well i guess i should notify him now.
Now It's been 9 months+ for me
Prateek Panwar make that more than 10
4:07 What's the timings like on the 2133mhz ram though? Realistic to achieve on a regularly priced 2133mhz or even a 2400 or 2666mhz kit?
Thank you so much Linus!
