  • Verbs ending with 하다 and verbs ending with 되다 get used in completely different ways - 하다 action verbs are “active verbs” while 되다 verbs are “passive verbs.” That means 하다 action verbs should use the Object Marker (을/를) to mark what they’re affecting, while 되다 verbs should not.

Another great lesson Billy! :D I am sure that it will help people who are confused with this! Such a nice teaching skill of describing the difference between '하다' and '되다' in just about 7 minutes!!

되다 makes me crazy! while i was able to wrap my head around -되고 싶다 (want to be), 됐어 (nah/no thanks.), 어떻게 됐어요? (what happened?/how did it go?) and -게 됐어요 (to end up doing) ... other and most times, my head keeps associating 돠다 with permission/allowability (가도 돼요, 가면 안 돼요?, 가면 돼요? 안 가면 돼요?) even when i shouldn't. so using 되다 "on its own" is a challenge to me, realizing it uses 가/이 makes it clearer to me now thank you!!

This is totally useful. Was always curious why 안돼요 was used to mean, "Oh, no!" and this makes it much more clear that it means, "It cannot be (happen)!"

Another great video. I will be watching it a few more times as it is a little over my head...but because it's so clearly done, with a little more study, I should have this point down.
    Thanks, Billy!

I'm fine with 하다 뭉 되다, but thanks for the particle lesson. I'm an upper beginner, but I gave up on those some time ago, hoping that eventually they would just one day make sense. The Korean I use is still fairly short and simple sentences, and people still (mostly) understand me, but I'll have to get around them eventually. Your video helped! These best teachers are ALWAYS non-native teachers, I think, regardless of the language.

I think "transitive" and "intransitive" might be a better way to look at them. I made a video about this concept here: ruclips.net/video/iNdKtSPcsUA/видео.html
