Great to hear that the electric side is working for you, the front bumper and parts behind are fixable without having to do anything with the high voltage side. Good luck with the repairs.
You've persuaded me to go through the copart auctions 😂 I've been seeing some LEAF cheap enough that if I messed it up at least the battery could be parted out 😊 Better not outbid me 😉
My father-in-law has a 64kWh Kona and he loves it. Easily gets 280mi on a charge and usually gets 4.7mi/kWh. I borrowed it for 6 weeks while they were in Australia and it's a fun car to drive! I didn't use the heads up display much as I didn't want to get too used to it and miss it when I went back to driving my ZS 😅
@@grouchthatbarx yeah it's really efficient. I'm sure his lifetime average is 4.0-4.1mi/kWh over 50k miles. You'll be very please with the car once it's up and running
@@grouchthatbarx I can get 4.5m/kWh with my AWD I-5, either in slow short trips across town or over twenty miles driving reasonably ‘sedately’ on longer trips is easily possible this time of the year, too. But I accept it is nowhere near as energy efficient as a Kona. I chose the I-5 for the rear boot space and the AWD when needed (200HP through those front wheels is a definite tyre shredder, IMO).
Great vid. Currently working on my own but it has never engaged drive or reverse. Ive tried loads of things and even bought the diagnostic computer (£4k) thinking that would sort it out but still no......
It almost looks like one of those cars you see that have been raided for parts, if it wasn’t for the broken light tabs, unless they were broken by someone who removed the other parts. Don’t blame the delivery driver copart move cars around with fork lift trucks I bet that’s what caused the damage. Anyway I’m waffling. 😀 Good luck with the repair. 👍
Not too bad at all, looks like something quite small has pushed into that front corner from the side, maybe the under ride bar of a reversing truck that's somehow missed the bonnet and wing. Certainly helps that the wing starts a long way back! I'll get in with a guess at £1850 to get it back on the road.
Looks as though it's feasible enough repair Grouch, given your previous repair skills. At least there's no wing to get sprayed this time..... I'm not sure you'll save that 12v battery, given it's dropped so low...
I thought that main crash bar across the front with the deformation brackets each side was possibly deformed? I hope it all goes well and I’ll keep watching. A far more capable car than the Leaf, but parts will be more expensive (and harder to come by) than Leaf parts.
Hope you don't have to wait too long for the parts. Hyundai are very slow. I have been waiting 6 weeks for a front bumper for mine and still no delivery date available.
@@grouchthatbarx So likely this car has had a breakdown callout on the battery and this battery didn't look right when you put the meter on so there might be a bigger issue.
@@polyphonics557Not really, the battery is a quick £50 that the insurance company won't notice or care about, some will do tyres as well if they get the opportunity and there's enough tread to make it worthwhile, but start stripping expensive components and they soon get suspicious.
You probably already know this but if you need to swap out the A/C condenser you'll need to go get the gas removed as it's illegal to vent into the air.
Is that RAC battery the right specification for the car? Copart may have been cute and swapped out the expensive OE battery! You shouldn’t be repairing the lower under run/support panel as it’s part of the pedestrian safety

This is a great series - really interesting.

Was the damage more substantial on yours? Like airbags?
You are the master of suspense.. I can't wait for the next episode! 😊

Great project but careful about getting your finger in the picture as the camera focuses on it an d the thing we are looking at goes out of focus :)
I know, I have to stop pointing. It's difficult not too 😆
@@grouchthatbarx :)
There are tab repair kits available for most lights maybe worth looking for the drl. main light is obviously toast.
I bought a used DRL from ebay
Nice project for a man of your talents.
Big question for you now is, which will you keep, Leaf or Kona?
Keep the Kona 👍

I think your guess is probably about right.
I think it will be between £1500 to £1850 👍
@@grouchthatbarxThat would be the bargain of the year, half the current retail price including the cost from Copart?
Good luck with the repairs.
thanks 👍👍
its a shame you don't get pics of the initial damage to see the point of impact. Good luck with the repair to get another EV back on the road.
Yes I would like to see that 👍👍
I looked under the bonnet of my friends Kona and its a Hyundai branded 12V , was replaced as a recall on his 2020 car.
👍👍
You've got the bug with this haven't you?! :)
I have...I need to calm down 😊
Hopefully when its all done you'll have saved a tidy sum of cash. 😊

Get a plastic welder matey. You will be able to fix those broken clips no probs.
I'm not a fan of plastic welding as it always looks like it's been plastic welded. 👍👍

The leaf parts were expensive and hard to come by as well. 😱
that will be a good car once its up and running

Best get a new or used one then as I assume it is supposed to break under impact.
Is your daughter going to have your Leaf as I can see the red one behind the fence?
She's keeping her leaf
