14:42 I wrote a book called The Eye of Gogi and one of the things I point out is that, contrary to popular belief, hard work does not always come from passion; passion comes from hard work. You getting into it and knowing you're investing precious time in it means you then want to make the most of it. By thinking this way you can do a great job at anything, including things you might not want to do at first.
Ivan Espinoza I don't know what I got going on lol. I did the military which was easier then working as a contractor in construction and then I now go to college which is so so not too hard not too easy but I get paid by the government to go and I get disability money so I don't work that hard and it's all reasonably easy. I'm sorta confused on your entire point. It doesn't seem to fit into my current life.
Not exactly. It's sounds pretty but it's not reality. A hard life follows drug and sex addiction eventually to cope with the trauma, or other mental issues.
1. Compound Interest - 1% Improvement every day 2. Behaviour change is identity change 3. Ruthless Elimination - Eliminate amount of decisions you do each day 4. 25-5 - Choose 5 Priorities only 5. Habit - Reminder (trigger-obvious), Routine (easy-2minutes), Reward 6. Schedule it in - recommit 7. Environment - adapt environment to behaviour change (friends also) 8. Momentum - become accountable and don’t break the streak
This reminds me of the Japanese philosophy Kaizen, whereas a person can become motivated by doing something for just one minute, thus tricking your brain into overcoming lethargy.
Um, I guess Kaizen is the same like 1% method which is doing 1% improvements and keep it going and growing every single day. It is not about lethargic or else

I try to redirect my procrastination on things. If I have dishes and I want to read or work on something. I’ll do the dishes and then sit down at my desk. Like I try to do a chore each time before I get to work.
14:51 but what you find is that motivation often comes after starting not before we often think that motivation is something that we're supposed to have before we do work but motivation will come as a result of doing some small bit of work and then we can trust that the rest of the process will flow easily.
It's weird to say but I found the same thing with my kids when they were born. I thought they were adorable but I honestly wasn't that attached even through the first couple of months. Once I started taking over the caretaking duties from my wife I fell in love with them. It's like I had to go through the motions of loving them before it actually happened. Happened with both my kids and from what I've heard it's a common experience for new parents.
I just started writing my daily habits hour by hour the day before. And I saw a follow through on my first day. This info almost feels like finding gold, but waaaaay more precious.
When he said (for I knew it was correct), “Motivation comes after you begin something, not before.,” I stopped the video right there so I would not forget that and would use it. It will prevent procrastination for one thing. And I knew it would be my best take-away from this whole presentation. If I happen to remember the “Make a 1% improvement each day,” that’s wonderful advice too but I’m calling that a “bonus” take-away.
You don’t do anything because the motivational video gives you a neurological reward, signaling your brain that you already did something positive towards your goals … what we really need to be doing is sit down with ourselves and ask “what is my purpose “ it might takes weeks, months, days but everything and everyone has a purpose. Trees give us carbon dioxide, animals are part of the ecosystem, we are the same! 💗💗
ive done something akin to this with my diet and environment. at 30 yrs old following a main stream low far diet and eating all the pyramid foods my testosterone was a measely 7 on our canadian scale of 5 to 28. over the next ten yrs i transitioned into low carb high fat, sometimes keto diet and using all organic cleaning products, toiletries or just foregoing things like deoderant entirely and now my testosterone is literally 30 on that same scale of 5 to 28. off the charts naturally !
I was just listening to this on Audible last night while driving. Crazy. Also, it mentions not to pick up phone first thing in morning...I’m laying in bed still. :)
You're ruining your life. It's the truth. & You will keep ruining your life if you don't START. Consistency is the key. Make the hard things so easy that you can't say no.
2:50 4:40 10:50 distractions 14:50 motivation comes after starting activation energy 14:35 precommit, state ur intentions 19:40 keystone habit 22:30 dont break the chain sticking to it makes the consistent improvement
1. *Marginal increments* Progress one step at a time 2. *System v Goals* Focus on your mindset, and alter your actions and lifestyle/routines accordingly and stick to them 3. *Priority v a bunch of Priorities* Avoid decision fatigue, eliminate ruthlessly 4. *25 / 5 rule* Make a list of top 25 things you wanna do in life, circle the top 5. Only the top 5 are the priorities and most essential. The 6 through 25 are things you never wanna do under any circumstance. They drain your time and energy and give little in return. 5. *Steps of a habit* : trigger > routine > reward 6. *The 2 minute rule* When there's a daunting task, focus on the first 2 minutes only. Build up the momentum and then flow automatically happens. Beat the initial friction. 7. *Pre commitment* If you schedule something before hand, you're more likely to do it. 8. *Implementation of intention matters* Mere motivation doesn't do much in the long run, you must implement intentions 9. *what to focus on when you wanna improve* Keystone habit. Builds momentum and helps you stay motivated and energized. (Eg: excercise, meditate, read, walk) 10. *Environment design* Use laziness for your advantage. Put all distraction and such things far away so that you don't reach for them often. 11. *Stick to the behavior and don't break the chain* Don't miss a day, do the habit even if for just a bit, every single day
You are working too long and too hard on 25 different goals and you couldn't achieve any of those. Our whole life is revolving around Instant gratification and dopamine addiction. We have created a good environment for bad habits.
“A little bit everyday everyday” My old Sicilian neighbor would always say this. She couldnt do much of her yard work at a time but by doing small bits every day she ended up with an amazing yard and garden eventually. I remember this when it seems useless just to do a small things often to get to a goal instead of just waiting till i have the time to make a huge effort at once. She ended up with a nice yd n garden after a year and i ended up with an unfulfilled goal of a nice yd and garden in the same span of time. I learned a lot from that experience.

Identity is so important. Many years ago I decided to quit smoking. (I’m old. When I was young everyone smoked.) well I never defined myself as someone who was 'trying to quit' or 'going to quit' I immediately defined my self as a Non Smoker. I haven’t smoked at all since that day and it was about 50 years ago.
this is how i get all my life's work done. people don't believe you when you tell them it's just 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats and to run 10 miles a day...
I'm retired. I hate exercise. I hate sitting home all day. So I joined the YMCA Silver Sneaker aerobics class just to have a reason to get up and go somewhere as if I was going to work(which was 30 years). I go M-W-F for 1 hour. It has been 7 years now and that "incremental" addition of 1 hour 3X a week has given me a reason for living. I'm 70 and feel like 40! 70 is the new 40. Now I just have to loose 20 pounds!
Lol, try to observe without judgement for one day. I bet you'll find it hard. See I've just judged you, and I don't even know you 😀 I struggle with this challenge daily. Our egos like to call the shots. Have a great day, Samandhi.
This is a brilliant video! Thank you for your great work. I only would like to address the 1% calculation presented in this video. When calculating 1.01^365, the result is 38, meaning you're doing 37-times better at the end of the year. However, this assumes daily compounding, meaning that each and every day you have to perform 1% better than on the previous day. This is impossible to reach. For example, if on day 1 you work out for 10 minutes, then you had to work out on day two for 10 minutes and 6 seconds. On day 365, you had to work out for 6 hours and 18 minutes per day. After 18 months, you had to work out more than 38 hours PER DAY. So clearly, this is impossible. Otherwise, I love all the content.

I try to redirect my procrastination on things. If I have dishes and I want to read or work on something. I’ll do the dishes and then sit down at my desk. Like I try to do a chore each time before I get to work.
Besides all the quotes and jokes I wish everyone reading this nothing but success 🙌

You came for copper, just to find gold

but what you find is that motivation often comes after starting not before we often think that motivation is something that we're supposed to have before we do work but motivation will come as a result of doing some small bit of work and then we can trust that the rest of the process will flow easily.
U r right! Action leads to motivation and not necessarily vice-versa, since action can create momentum, providing positive feedback loop.
Your "WHYs" are the motivation.

14:35 precommit, state ur intentions
19:40 keystone habit
22:30 dont break the chain
sticking to it makes the consistent improvement
1. *Marginal increments* Progress one step at a time
2. *System v Goals*
Focus on your mindset, and alter your actions and lifestyle/routines accordingly and stick to them
3. *Priority v a bunch of Priorities* Avoid decision fatigue, eliminate ruthlessly
4. *25 / 5 rule*
Make a list of top 25 things you wanna do in life, circle the top 5. Only the top 5 are the priorities and most essential. The 6 through 25 are things you never wanna do under any circumstance. They drain your time and energy and give little in return.
5. *Steps of a habit* :
trigger > routine > reward
6. *The 2 minute rule*
When there's a daunting task, focus on the first 2 minutes only. Build up the momentum and then flow automatically happens. Beat the initial friction.
7. *Pre commitment*
If you schedule something before hand, you're more likely to do it.
8. *Implementation of intention matters*
Mere motivation doesn't do much in the long run, you must implement intentions
9. *what to focus on when you wanna improve*
Keystone habit. Builds momentum and helps you stay motivated and energized. (Eg: excercise, meditate, read, walk)
10. *Environment design*
Use laziness for your advantage. Put all distraction and such things far away so that you don't reach for them often.
11. *Stick to the behavior and don't break the chain*
Don't miss a day, do the habit even if for just a bit, every single day

“A little bit everyday everyday”
My old Sicilian neighbor would always say this.

The magic phrase:
"During the next week, I will partake in at least 20 minutes of vigorous exercise on this day, at this time, at this place."
