I always get a kick out of people who think the point of this book is to teach people how to be manipulative. The point is a bit tongue-in-cheek and to make you aware of what powerful people do to attain their power. That being said, some of the laws are applicable in thwarting some of the toxic people we run into. I used stir up waters to catch fish and strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter to leave a narcissistic relationship, for example. Then laws like always say less than necessary are common sense. If you don’t like a law, or any of the laws for that matter, don’t use them, but at least be aware that the manipulators in the world are using these. Don’t be so naive, as I was myself

@@topnotch3549 Is the book used by bad faith actors? Sure. But that isn’t the majority of people reading the book. What was Robert Greene’s motive for writing the book? It was to educate people who are naive about how powerful people act and how they gained their power, and that’s largely what the book is used for. The manipulators of the world largely don’t need this book because it’s in their nature to use the ideas in this book for immoral reasons. I would argue it’s better to have this book be written so people are aware and not so naive so we can mitigate the harm the manipulators and toxic people in the world do to other people

True, you can either be a terrible player or a great player or perhaps somewhere in between but you can't escape the game of power no matter how hard you try.
Thus, you should just aim to play the very best game you can play and enjoy the journey. Or you can play the worst game and be miserable.
      It IS a game.

I think this is something to understand but only with the intention of not falling prey to it. You don't want to end up with power but be alone, isolated, and cold within that power. There is nothing sadder than pursuing power for its own sake. Having a good life is all that matters, understanding power without letting it corrupt you is part of that.

While the games of politicians and kings May be a larger and more pronounced set for the rules of power, they are nevertheless an essential part of most human interactions. Whether you like it or not, remaining ignorant to power dynamics will only harm you.

Understand that struggling for power and position is an inescapable part of life -- but understand this with only the intention of not letting it consume or degrade you. You don't want to end up like Daniel Plainview, alone in a massive mansion with bitterness as your only companion. Understand power, accept that it's a part of being a human animal, but don't let it become the singular motive of your existence.

I used to always say the Bible was full of contradiction. My specific personality type is often called a walking paradox. Introverted yet loves being with people. Cool and stand-offish yet longs for intimacy. My interpretation of this is synonymous with the saying "hide in plain sight." That will ruin someone's reputation proving that they have no integrity and will cause people to intensely dislike them. Another one is staying away from people who are having a hard time. Not being supportive of others when they are going through a hard time. That's really not a good idea because when the person has given no support to others when they needed it will get no support when they need it. And sooner or later almost everyone goes through a hard time in their lives and need support. another one is about being honest once and then saying that someone can then lie and manipulate people all they want at will. Sooner or later almost every lie comes out. and when people find out that someone has been deceitful they will not trust them again and will stay away from them. The first law is avoiding getting mistreated by bosses who are insecure and will hold you down for doing a better job than they do. Not revealing intentions or plans keeps assholes from working against you behind your back and so on. You may not want to play the game, but you should realize lots of other non-psychopaths certainly are, and these laws help you understand what happened in a lot of situations where you were baffled by the outcome.

Some of these laws require quite a bit of effort, forethought, and strategy, and unless a person is undistracted by many other of life's realities such as being a parent, spouse, employee, etc., it's a bit difficult to focus on all of these. After all, we are humans, we are tired most days, the cognitive faculties can't keep alert to all these laws. Best to choose a few that seem most meaningful and pertinent to your specific need for power and master those.

As for me I have reverent power according to my college professors and that's power just because you have power there is no reason for having the power you just do and that works well for me but might not be your kind of power so use your type and some people don't have power.

I wanted to see what the hype was about and honestly I haven’t brought myself to complete the entire reading because it’s negative energy in my opinion. It’s pathetic. Instead of being truthful, honest or humble there are people who would rather manipulate a situation in their favor. I am seeing why “Jesus” said that we are from evil. However for those who use the tactics and enjoy the irony no hard feelings. Peace be with you.

You know, it's gotta be used in a practical way but always monitoring your thoughts and using your heart. I felt something go out of balance inside me listening to these "recommendations" it didn't settle right. HOWEVER, I've felt more destabilized and out of balance at the expense of negative insecure people and toxic work environments due to people are unconsciously programmed with heavy negativity. It's a balance but you'll end up dead or drained if you don't apply some defense towards people's selfish ways. In my experience, us people are much like animals in the sense that Nature's Laws are brutal but if one keeps the wolf at bay by using heart, brains, intuition and common sense. If you don't cut down the weeds, they over take the garden.
