Reminded me a quote from the Dalai Lama:
"If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.”

      Atshaharyabo:
I've been told that quote from well intentioned people many times. In Different words but the message basically being the same: if you're problems have solutions why worry? And if they don't ....why worry?
And every single time I find myself either pisst or baffled by it. Why? Because it is a very true and logical statement recommended to be applied to something that has no reality based logic. Such like an anxiety attack while seating on your couch, where no thing and no one and no tiger is presently threatening your life.
Anxiety, the type I experience anyway has to do with a lot of reasons, the majority of which the above quote does not apply. Can apply that quote to a disregulated biological system who gushes out buckets of cortisol and adrenaline into your bloodstream for no apparent good reason. Well intended advise, but useless to illogical anxiety.....in my opinion

I'm gonna be honest right now: when I clicked on this video, I didn't think much of it. I just thought "it probably won't change my life but just give it a try". And oh boy, was I wrong.
Before I watched this video, I wasn't really positive. Over a year had passed since I had to face a breakup and I still wasn't over it... but after watching this video for the first time, a lot has changed - you could probably say my whole life has. This video had me really motivated, I got more and more into stoicism and self-improvement, I started meditating, stopped wasting my time on my phone, came back to working out, finally got over the breakup and overall just appreciated everything a lot more. The last few months have been some of the most positive months of my life, so thank you.
I highly recommend this video to everyone out there, spread this mindset to more people and make as many people as happy as possible. Have a wonderful day if you read this - and live it like it's your last one.

    *Epictetus*
1 lesson: Our first job is this, to
divide and distinguish things into two categories: Externals I cannot control, but the choices I make with regard to what I do control. Where will I find good and bad? In me, in my choices.
2 lesson: It is not events that disturb people, it's their judgment about things.
3 lesson: Get rid of self conceit. It is impossible to learn that which one thinks they already know.
4 lesson: The true man is revealed in difficult
times. So when trouble comes, think of yourself as a wrestler paired with a tough young buck. For what purpose? To turn you into olympic-class material.
    *Seneca*
5 lesson: There are more things likely
to frighten us than there are to crush us; We suffer more in imagination than in reality.
    6 lesson: Excellence
    withers without an adversary.
7 lesson: Associate with those who will make a
better man of you. Welcome those whom you yourself can improve. The process is mutual; For men learn as they teach.
8 lesson: This is our big mistake: To
think we look forward to death. Most of death is already gone. Whatever time has passed is owned by death.
    *Marcus Aurelius*
9 lesson: At dawn when you have trouble getting out
of bed, tell yourself: "I have to go to work as a human being. What do i have to complain of, if I am going to do what I was born for - The things I was brought into this world to do. Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?"
    10 lesson: Our actions
may be impeded, but there can be no impeding our intentions or our dispositions. Because we can accommodate and adapt. The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting. The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.
11 lesson: If, at some point in your life, if you should find anything better than justice, honesty, self-control, and courage, if you find anything better than that embrace it without reservation. It must be an extraordinary thing indeed.
12 lesson: No. It's fortunate that this has happened and I've remained unharmed by it - Not shattered by the present or frightened of the future. It could have happened to anyone. But not everyone could have remained unharmed by it.
    13 lesson: You could
leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.
It was the right thing to do. ;)

If you trade without the proper preparation, you're most likely to lose your money. Identify the buy/sell ratios and identify the market leaders and most importantly. This is pure gold. So timeless, with significant relevance to 2020 as we are lead to be so fearful of Covid... Variations have been repeated all these years. You immediately know these small repeated variations make sense (focus on what you can control), sure, makes sense. I didn't realize it was all figured out and documented so long ago. I wish I could keep this wisdom in mind always. We so easily forget and get agitated with something as insignificant as someone pulling out in front of us.

the only thing we should be worried about is what we are worried about, we spent so much time imagining, worrying in advance that we actually torture ourselves more than the thing we're worrying about ever could and that is of course, if it ever happens at all. The most important thing to remember about pain and suffering Seneca said "is that it is inevitable, it can't be avoided, but what we must avoid is the phantom premonitions of what may or may not happen. Instead of suffering from imagination, focus immediately on what is in front of you. Stay in the present. Stay in reality."

Its all in the Bible.. where stoics too found it! Surprise!! Read the Bible. It all leads you to good and stoicism also found balance in it. Forget priests… many are clowns… few are real. Everything good comes from God.. even the movie or the book the secret for example… just an example.. talking about Attraction and so on.. its all in Proverbs my friend. All of it , line by line!! Every great philosopher and thinker, real people that crossed trials and came out to be a polished gem have all started their knowledge within the Bible. Its all there.., brave ones only experience it because truth will free you!! Only the brave search, fight and live fir the truth the light and Love.!!.

I do that a lot. I think, "Wow, that sounds really good" and then sometime later, Alan Watts says it, Carl Jung says it, and yes, psychopaths as well because there is such a small percentage of psychos who kill. I hear it in songs, somebody says it in public. I say something about a log-cutting service truck and 5 seconds later a yellow one drives by the house, but the asshole didn't stop. I need that log out! Personally I have not been a big fan of 'power' and 'control', but then I pick this video and I feel I must re-visit my theories, but still keep the one's I have kept around. Remember, don’t let ANYBODY change the way you think. I would have been way better off in life if I didn’t let it get to me. I lost a lot and I mean a lot of what I had going for me and now I have to start over without the help I once had. It’s really depressing, I feel alone, and like I’m never gonna accomplish in life besides death, so I’m filled with hate and anger. But I know deep inside it’s all in my head, it’s all because of my mindset and I have to relearn to take everything I hear, feel and go thru as a lesson to help me build a stronger mindset. Tired of getting msgs of old friends telling me they don’t see me as the same person no more. Makes me feel lost but on the bright side, that’s my motivation. The grass is always greener on the other side, it all depends on how you view things… now back to the video I’m at 3:50 and it already help snap me out of it.

The point is that no matter how comfortable you are (once you wake up after a healthy amount of sleep) the comfort brings no substance, and will only hurt you if you continue to hide within it.

weirdly all this is covered in the big book of AA, the serenity prayer captures lesson 1, page 409 is all about acceptance, accepting everything as it is not as i would have it, and having humility, being humble enough to unlearn things we thought were correct and re-learn new info that's different from what we held so dearly... soo much wisdom in AA's big book, it covers Stoicism and a whole lot more, its a wonderful design for living, for all of humanity not just recovering alcoholics.

Marcus Aurelius never intended for 'Meditations' to be made public. It was a book he wrote to himself. He had ordered it be burned upon his death to prevent people knowing he struggled, but his servant couldn't bring himself to do it. That is why we can read it today. Not because Marcus wanted us to, but because his personal servant thought it would be a waste of good wisdom. If you read it, he repeats himself over and over. It's a journal, of what he knows to be right in different situations. Writing in it was a pep-talk he gave himself when he needed to ground.

There is no such thing as failure or defeat, but rather struggle and growth. The perspective that results from a challenge leads to progress regardless of winning or losing, the growth that comes after must be obtained by both participants and thus is objectively relative. Accept your perspective and take the steps forward to growth.

    • @neotower420
      @neotower420 3 года назад

Always improve, don't let absolutes in life define your progress. Only you can resolve your progress into growth, and the satisfaction is just an illusion. There will always be another door to open, another goal. Never be complete, only your lifes work can bring about the resolve you seek. The satisfaction for having lived a life you can be happy with.

The stoic attitude is not purely of freedom. It's of doing the right thing, and doing what we can control to improve a situation. Stoics wear face masks to protect others ; for the greater good of the population because that is something we do have control of.

Amazing. I've not encountered this before and I'm 66 years old. I've just realized I have lived my life (and continue to do so) with many of these concepts in a subliminal way. Tons of stuff I could never control other than how I deal with each situation. Choose friends wisely. Get up off my @$$ and work. I've taught and in so doing learned. How did I never find this before? OK, I'm on board.

Every point made here is perfect. However, from my perspective you first must remove the blindfold that we all wear. Basically we are all creatures who have been programmed from the moment of conception to the present moment. We are PavlovIan creatures who make choices based upon past events. This means we have no “free” choice because the programming is doing the choosing for us. And, what we choose follows a repeat pattern. The real trick is to find a way to deprogram yourself in order to make a truly free choice. In order to accomplish this you must “own” the information by connecting the dots from the past with the present. I have done this in three areas of my life and it has worked wonders. I am in a position to follow and use the information provided in this video. Breaking from the past gives one that opportunity. Lose the blindfold. I wish everyone well.
