Do it because you want to. Don’t think about it. Just do it. Don’t procrastinate or…… Talk yourself out of doing it. Self talk. I put mantras on my bathroom mirror. Getting out of bed is the start of the win. Love that!!!!! Making mistakes builds your confidence
Discipline isn't just something that you build, it's something you maintain with habits. Discipline gives us the very ingredients needed to achieve great things and patience is a big part of that. Don’t practice what you don’t want to become, know this and live by it. A person without discipline is a person full of reactions, rather than a person of good actions.
I'd argue habits are something you build which leads to maintaining discipline which means you do build discipline. Adherence to effective habits for your long term goal = discipline.
and a wonderful byproduct of this discipline is resilience. doing hard things, overcoming resistance of any kind builds resilience, and this is good for every area of your life. Thanks for the post and thanks for your comment.
You’re absolutely right! Discipline is the bridge between goals and achievements, and habits are the bricks that pave the way. Patience truly does make the process sustainable
I think just creating habits is underrated because when you are just like a robot going thru your daily routine, there’s almost no struggle or negative for-thought about the chore or daily task, exercise whatever it may be. You hear your alarm, get up and just go. It’s a habit.
Caffeine helps me focus -ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder); however, it affects the quality of sleep, so i generally drink coffee in morning only.. Andrew shared, in another lecture, that waiting 45 min. before coffee is advisable.
Fantastic video deserves a wide audience. I am a counselling psychologist who has worked with people experiencing extreme mental health challenges for over 30 years. I would consider this video as potential material for many people as they move from crises towards major advancement in their self-efficacy and expand their range of power over their own wellbeing. It offers provides a baseline for exploaration of individual support and goal setting that can be taken in stages at a pace that suits each of our individual starting points. Thank you for this important and inspirational resource.
Learn to express yourself in simple words, a lot of flowery adjectives and big words make you seem very insecure, almost as if you are desperately trying to sound incredibly smart while talking about very VERY basic ideas.
Wow I really needed this! Thank you so much Andrew Huberman! I love your teaching & am grateful to get educated & clarity, and sometimes affirmation for what im already doing. God bless you & peace, abundance & Joy be with you. ~ Ronda BLMT
And then you get to the age where you’re so good at discipline and you “just do it” yet you’re sore, you tweak something in it body or just don’t have the energy you used to. “Just work harder” is only one part of the equation. Recovery, rest, bodywork, parasympathetic activation becomes more important as we age. Adapt and find the balance.
Discipline is more than taming your urges...like knowing when letting go of restrictions and allowing flow freely occur in pure enjoyment through grateful trust in G-d. All is a gift.
Thank you for validating the experience of rewiring self post-addiction in the swiftest most hardhitting way! We do have to scruff ourselves from morning until night! I am almost completed my first year and it's been like that nonstop so far, which I hear is common that the first year its nonstop rewiring work
I never knew the taste of extreme delayed gratification until I had to save my own life and get sober from 3 years of HEAVY daily meth use. Over the last two years, Ive fought through 18+ relapses but the first time I broke through withdrawal I felt like superman. Unstoppable. I tried to perceive what other ways I can potentially achieve that level of dopamine and the only things I can come up with are climbing Mount Everest, skydiving scuba, diving and becoming incredibly wealthy/successful. That first hit of delayed gratification is why I’ve used less and less. I went from using 365 days a year just two years ago, down to 18 days this year. I am unstoppable.
Twice in my adult life I have abstained from coffee after a bout with flu. One time it lasted for 6 months. Very curious of others have experienced this as well. It wasn't a conscious effort it just never sounded good to me after being ill
Anger works for me and sometimes the hardened heart cracks open and I do it out of love untill anger eventually comes back so .... when you've lived unreal suffering and caused enough of it your self but decide to turn your life around and achive freedom but yet the suffering keeps coming it's very easy to feel bad for yourself and fall into depression. And anger is the ultimate antidote. Good luck 👍
So this is interesting....I do these things naturally. I'm very strict on certain aspects of my life to reach closer to a certain goal, and yes, it works. The sacrifice of pleasure brings great rewards in the long run
I am "that sensitive". Even with my decaf I sweat and shed layers of clothing; have heart palpitations and am wide awake! Caffeine brings on my Raynaud's too :(
If the 20-minute cat naps really help, would there be a way to know if there's an element about a person that makes them more likely to have one? If there's a something different about people who are able to doze off in public places or are more likely to doze off if they've been focusing and learning more of the time? How short of a nap could provide these learning gap effects?
Once I realize I was for too long on my phone I was so angry I through the Phone across the room! It didnt break unfortunatly and Im seriously thinking that Phone will be the last one!
About caffeine, it works the other way for me. I drink raw tea without milk or sugar around 8 PM. By 9 PM, I become really sleepy and have a good night's sleep. Does this happen to anyone else?
The question is what is being done about detrimental effects of technology on our brains and society? I almost am tired of my phone to where I want to throw it in the street. Is this something that we have the capability to intentionally work around or do we need to work together and stop it before it goes too far? This is dangerous it’s changing the chemistry in our brains against our will.
I need discipline because something is wrong with me I don't know what the hell is going on but the sun is literally 5 ft from me and I can't seem to get there
Nothing is wrong with you, you are just lazy it’s a habit you build through out the years also you aren’t motivated by anything! Find something you love and then slowly build habit around it that’s how discipline comes about
You’re not lazy! You might be depressed or not disciplined or your “why I should do this/that?” is not strong enough to keep you moving or even make it possible for you to initiate it.
It is astonishing to me that you are looking for ways to do all this, when NLP found the ways to do all kind of top down controlling, and you haven't done an epizode on this amazing system.
Yes but sometimes what you think is self-discipline it's actually self-sabotage as a society we work ourselves too hard been taught to especially the older we get we have to love ourselves more buy resting and being content with just existing doing simple things like cooking, socializing and hobbies 💔
Lol, yeah this is like the 4th time i've seen this exact phrase, different name though (one name was long and had satan in it, so don't think this person has goodwill in mind 🤔)
Doesn't help when I'm stuck in freeze cptsd as my emotional functions are blocked, I don't feel joy about anything and numb from pain. I've never experienced a win to even focus on. I had to do therapy before my mind and body could tolerate meditate or exercise. There are so many cookie cutter solutions, we are all individuals and one thing that works for one Doesn't work for everyone. Why would you scruff and animal.
