I don't think I've ever heard a nail tech say to anyone NOT to get long nails. I've watched teenagers with Grant-style chewed nails get these long stiletto nails and now I wonder how much damage was done. TYSM for sharing with us!
I always say that living with long nails is like wearing high heels everyday. It takes training, commitment and some compromises. I love wearing long pointy nails and I can't count how many times I painfully broke one during such everyday banal activities like wiping dust or working in my backyard. But it never discouraged me, on the contrary - I learned how to make super strong acrylic manicure that can survive household chores. And by the way I also discovered that doing my nails gives me great joy and artistic outlet.
I wear my nails long and my heels everyday. I will trip everytime I wear tennis shoes. I've tried to do shorter nails but it just feels too off for me. But what she says makes sense.
I had a nail tech refuse to give me long nails once with my bitten nubs lol. I was upset but I appreciated her caring about my nail health. By far the strongest nails I’ve ever had long or short.
I wish all nail techs were as educated, skilled, and kind as you are. You always tell us the pros and the cons of nails while teaching us and it's more appreciated than you know. 💛
Omg thank you for discussing this topic. I am not a licensed nail tech but I’ve been doing my own for over 10 years and have been used to wearing long nails and still able to do everything I normally would. But some people that usually do not ever wear long nails, and always have short nails then they go get long acrylic nails done and everything they do will be a pain to them! Breakage, stabbing themselves, hitting their nails on things. If ur not used to long nails please don’t get them, start with a set let it grow out and see if u can handle the new growth length.
THAT! Especially because there is a way to do everyday tasks with long nails that one needs to adapt to. You can't just. Do everything the same way you would with short nails
I still can’t ever get used to sharp stilettos. Never ever lol I then have to trim them or round them out and fix the apex. I always manage to scratch myself really harshly on my cheeks, neck, or above my chest and under my neck. They kinda scare me but they’re so beautiful lol. Im afraid to poke my eye one day ngl
@@tamashiranai1091 this is true but nails to me can be such a hassle. I wear them accordingly to my lifestyle and what I’ll be doing. Recently been annoyed when a few people were like omg your winter nails are gorgeous and lalala. I then cut them to suit my needs for lots of work I was going to be doing and also cleaning around the house and they scolded me. Scolded. Me. Like wtf lol I can easily do my set again when I want. Ok enough venting but I can’t do lots of work with my work and taking care of my house with long nails. Then when I have more slow weeks and will just relax more. Read. Game. I give myself long claws and enjoy them. I rather not keep long nails and my work take longer to do even by a few seconds because I can’t work as efficiently as I do with short nails. By short nails I mean the medium length you’d see for say press on jelly nails like from enail couture or kiara sky. That’s the only thing I can reference. That length I can do anything but I prefer longer than that. But girl I cannot pick up change or cards off surfaces with nails no matter what! Lol
Having had short bitten nails and grown them out to long natural nails, and then watched a lot of nail youtubers and beauty channels, you definitely use your hands differently with different lengths! And part of preserving long nails (and your own comfort when having long nails) is learning the muscle memory of those changed habits. With short nails, you can (and often need to) poke things directly with the tip of your finger. But with long nails, you end up using the sides and bottom of your fingers much more. Until you change your instinctive poking habit, you end up breaking a lot of nails!
Learning to use contact lenses was another hurdle. The eye doctor showed me how to put them in and out, but the "official" doctor technique assumes you have NO nails at all. Luckily the internet was there to save me on that one!
@@AnaRo_sales I feel like it’s watching a left handed person do things. It doesn’t look right to us right handed ppl but they are functioning just fine lol people that wear long nails have adjusted to that long nail life and are functioning just fine.
Typing is definitely interesting. I find that I kinda have to use my nails to type since trying to use my finger at any other angle will result in my nails hitting, like, two extra keys on every stroke. And pointy nails slide all over and into the crevices between keys. But I love pointy nails so I just deal with it. 😂
Love how Suzie’s first concern is always the client. I do my own nails but I’ve gone to many techs with friends and I silently cringe at some of the risky things done.
I'm new here but I love the way she speaks so confidently and in a way that's concise yet natural. She reminds me so much of the best professors I had in college.
Yes yes yes. I had a tech talk me into longer nails because he thought they’d look nice. My pinkie nails broke halfway up the nail bed and the acrylics were putting sooo much pressure on them. It was so painful.
Yup- no one should talked into wearing a longer length - looks nice yes but they need to be functional too- and let’s not overlook how adorable short is
I remember asking for short acrylics, but the tech still made them longer I wound up filing the acrylics down myself, and just more similarly colored polish on the tips I definitely would want to go and get more nails done, but I'd rather have them short and more natural. So my real nails can heal 😆
as a girl who grows her nails out, i can say, ive adapted to my long nails so much that i feel SUPER uncomfortable whenever my nail breaks and leaves a mm left above the tip of my finger. seeing his natural nail be below the length of his finger tip honestly made me cringe so much because i just can't imagine my nails being that short. my skin has actually grown underneath my nail to the point where its not even possible for me to cut my nail down below my fingertip! of course, i do NOT have a problem with that though. having medium length nails is actually super useful! i just simply cant fathom having my skin tough a surface before my nail. So really, no matter what way you decide to go with your nails, it’s a commitment lol.
Whenever mine grow long and need cutting I cut them shorter and it takes a few days and the skin shrinks back to the nailbed. It's definitely weird at first but not for too long.
Wait, your nail beds can grow back???? I never knew that. Mine are just as short as the guy in the video, because I used to bite my nails. Ever since then the edge of my nail bed at my fingertips get crooked and uneven, and so I developed a habit if pushing them down to try and even it out. I stopped biting mine years ago, but with misshapen nail beds it's hard not to mess with them. I'd probably have to consistently paint my nails to be able to leave them alone, but my cuticles are so horrible that painting my nails is a nightmare. My nails are just bad looking in every way 😂 I would use a cuticle oil, but my cat sheds so much and I have ocd and don't want to get cat hair stuck to my fingertips cause hair is a thing for me haha. I need to figure it out so I can have nice looking nails for once in my life 😂
I’m a guitar player a cashier and a stock clerk. Having long nails when your playing guitar and working is out of the question. I can’t count how many times I’ve bumped and hit my long nails. I felt so vulnerable AF, not a good feeling to have. It’s rare that I get long nails I only get them when I’m not working, but most of the time I always cut my nails short.
I have had extensions of some sort (usually acrylic) for the last 34 years. Over that time I have bartended, managed convenience & clothing stores (all of which required working a cash register and stocking various items). I've been a maid and a dish washer and an office manager/admin assistant/executive admin/receptionist. My nails change length depending on the shape (shorter for square long - like in the video - for almond, ballerina & stilletto). Oh yeah you can add nanny & mom to that too. I literally can't function with no nails (I might as well be using my toes lol). Yes, there's been a broken nail or three over the years but I haven't found anything yet that stops me just because I have nails. Like the lady said "it takes time & dedication" and Suzie is very right starting short and growing out is definitely easier. 😊
Yes to growing out! I had the same issue (short nail beds after biting my nails for most of my life) and decided to start doing gel overlay. No extensions. In about 3 appointments my nails were the desired length and after about 9 months of getting gel overlay regularly, my nail beds have grown so much! Be patient, it's worth it!!
Wait, nail beds can grow back?! I bit my nails for soo many years as a child and now my nail beds are like 1-3 mm shorter than they would be if I hadn't... Is there sth specific that determines if they can be grown back?
I think we need a series of Grants journey from short bitten nails to long natural nails so everyone can see the change and growth of the nail bed as they reattach to the nail bed and grow out to support longer nails! 😁💗
This makes so much sense! Longer nails always hurt me. It felt like my nail was being pulled up. Nail techs always want to put long nails on me and I have to ask them not to.
My nails are natural and grow well, but I always have gel polish applied. I went from a moderate length to longer in recent years. The risk of break with pain is real. And it affects the way you do daily tasks. When I break a nail off I’m suddenly unable to type and text properly 🤣 Doesn’t matter the length, natural or enhancement, nails can look beautiful 🥰 but def consider your lifestyle when choosing a length or be ready for an adjustment period 😆🤗❤️
I went to a nail tech for the first time, she wanted to put long nails on me ( I never had long nails because they always break) so I said no I want short nails. She did that but made them too thick after outgrown I gave her one more chance but again short and thick. Then I started to watch your channel and learned myself to put my own nails on in the way I like it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about everything that comes with nails ❤
I try to start with short tips glued on and then just backfill and file down as they grow. My nails got to the point where it was all my natural nail underneath. I was so proud of myself.
I normally wear my nails pretty long and I have clients/people comment .. I ALWAYS stress that it takes time to work up to the longer lengths and that you have to properly care for your nails. I now have shorter nails and use lots of gorgeous bling to show others with shorter nails that they can be short AND beautifully decorated 😍😍 Thank you so much for another wonderful and informative video 💐💐💐💐💐
I think of Susie when I’m getting a manicure and someone doesn’t do something as well as she does. 😂 So many people file really rough and it sets my teeth on edge. Susie has said in several videos to file in a way that I don’t find uncomfortable and it doesn’t any take longer.
This has been the most informative video about nails that I've watched recently. I never knew about any of this. I always asked for the length that I was comfortable wearing, but this video has broken all this down perfectly.
I’m so thankful that you showed those pictures in black and white. Stuff like that and trauma makes me squeamish and holy cow. The black and white images made me feel fine. 😌 thank you and camera man for that! And I want to add that I love how your minds work with the visuals. The clear area on Grants nail to represent where it should stop and then the following product indicating it’s now 3x his length. Other videos I’ve noticed also have great visuals. Like images that suddenly show over your own nail to try to show to us viewers what your aiming for. Idk I can’t explain it well but I love the educational edit/visuals in your videos!!
I’ve always had long nails. The past two months I’ve been au natural and my nails HURT! I don’t know how people do short nails, I’m in awe of you! Then again, I had all my fingernails ripped off in an unfortunate situation, TWICE! I’m doing my nails today, finally!
Your nails are sensitive when they’re short because the product has been removed and now they are exposed as very thin, damaged nails. Covering them is one way to protect the immediate natural nail. However, if you let them grow from cuticle to free edge, the nail will be completely replaced, and the pain will be gone. Your nails are only sore because of the way the enhancements are removed
Doing short nails is easy! I guess maybe not having a file near the nail bed helps? Or maybe I’m just desensitized because the nails are only ever covered in polish? I guess it’s all about what you’re used to!
@@NailCareerEducation Very well explained, cheers! Soak, soak, soak gel or acrylic off…ALWAYS! My natural nail never grew back properly so I see a specialist to ward of issues. I do love my long nails when taking the toast out of the toaster! 🤣🤣
@@bidinosaur It’s been over 30 years. I see a specialist to address any issues, once a year. My nails never grew back properly. The acrylic truly made things so much easier. I started out with acrylic short and gradually went up. They are by no means as long and gorgeous as Sussie’s but they may pass her test of approval! 😂❤️
I have secretly been watching some of your videos on occasion for years. However today’s use of rubber cement for nails in order to grill out fit nails and the explanations with the detailed diagrams… you get 10 stars for doing all that work and doing it well. On top of that you have an adorable nail model who interacts with you with beautiful chemistry. It’s been a joy to watch, very educational and a video that I will be forwarding to a gorgeous nail biting friend. Today I finally subscribed.
Absolutely spot on as always Susie. I have short nail beds and if I apply shorts and let them grow, the hyponychium extends and it naturally gives me more nail “estate” I like to make them quite thin on the ends too so if I catch them the end breaks first, not lower down. Brilliant video, thanks for sharing this. 😊
I tell people with tiny nail beds this all of the time!! It's usually "nail biters" who insist on having claws. I break it down by telling them that I don't suggest going longer than the length of their entire nail bed. So, when they insist, I give a disclaimer that the NSS refuses to give. Pretty much all of my clients have overlays and they prefer it that way.
I'm impatient. My nails used to grow like weeds, but 2 years on chemo has made them stupid-weak and brittle. I think I need to learn how to use product to help gradually grow what I've got. Wanting 2" nails right away is likely the wrong attitude. Who knew nails would be so complicated?
I have tiny nail beds and long nails don’t work well for me. I get a bit sore and I always file them down. Good thing I do my own nails. Plus I use a keyboard a lot and that’s hard on long nails.
@@molcol100 short nail beds and actively using your fingertips is definitely a reason for your fingers to be sore already. Adding longer nails on top of that has to be unbearable.
I have recently started my career as a nail technician but i have never advised my clients to have ridiculous length or even longer nails. I have been doing extensions for a few months but my own nails for 6+ years, so this comes from observation, experience and definitely from heart because nothing hurts more than a broken nail and especially a cracked nail plate. It's always good to start slow and then when one starts to feel comfortable and according to their daily life they are feel to choose their length.
When I saw the thumbnail for this video I knew you would be talking about this! Most nail techs will not tell clients this. And it drives me crazy! I had to learn this on my own by trial and error. I feel like nail techs don't say anything to make more money off of having to fix the breaks. This is why I do my own nails and keep my nails short. What I call sport short. Even though my nails grow longer they still feel vulnerable and hurt because they're thin and not supportive enough (I feel) for the length and product. Which is fine because I like being able to use my finger tips. If I can't, I file them back ASAP. If I can't run my finger around my ear and feel the skin with my finger tip then it's time to trim them back. If I can't make a tight fist without my nails digging into my palms then it's time to trim them. As I'm typing this they're too long and it's causing me to have more errors than normal so I need a trim.
This is the best advice to nail techs and new clients. You need to ease into longer nails and you need to be able to advise your client of what may be best for them.
I'm so glad you made this video. When I was in high school I got my nails done for prom (this was longer ago than I like to think about). I was not a person who had long nails at the time because I was in all the art classes and pretty much any length interfered with that but especially pottery. So I resolved to ask one of my besties to go with me and basically help not look like the idiot I felt like and in return I'd buy her nails. I did not even know it was called a set. I don't remember what happened exactly but I waited for her in the parking lot for 20 minutes after my appointment time and then finally just went in. Luckily they were not busy but I didn't know what I wanted done. So the nail tech asked me what the occasion was and I told her. About an hour later I walked out with a length similar to Grant's 'don't' nail and $60 lighter. The $60 was surprising to me because my friend had told me it was like $25 plus a tip. I'm just glad I was getting more prom stuff so I had my entire check or I would have died of embarrassment. Prom went well but my hands were so sore! The next day I had ripped my actual nail down the middle and to the side and then got a major infection. My finger nail fell off completely a few days later. So while I find your videos fascinating, I'm a press on girl for life.
Watching your videos actually helped me do gel nails and quit biting my nails. I love your content. I even went in once with super short nails bitten off. And had a nail tech put way too much length. I'm glad you did this video
YES! THIS! ALL OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!! As a nail tech I can’t emphasize more, I understand being in trend is cool but client’s health is more important for me. And this is the exact reason why I’ve refused a descent number of customers wanting to get extensions! Of course I won’t refuse if they want it for a special event coming up in like 2days. But most of the clients who wanted an extension are the ones who hates their bitten super short nails and want to grow them out. And I tell them if the purpose of the extension is for nail growth and you don’t have a special event coming up in the next 3 weeks, go shorter! Less chances of breaking and damaging the natural nail! And by starting short or most times even better starting with overlay, it gives the customer a good chunk of time period to adjust their old habits into better ones which will help them to be careful more easily when they do want to get it longer✨
Thank you I love your content and knowledge. As someone that does her own nails this has always been my process and thought. I love the gel x systems and so happy that they finally started making xx short, xxx short and short nails for those that prefer. I no longer have to file cut and file and shape. Even when I use to go to salon and would start over I always got my nails short and let me them grow long overtime.
Thank you! I will always use this rule making my manicure! I'm a bartender so I can't have long nails, but I must always be taken care of because the focus is on my hands. You are always extremely clear in your explanations. 🙏
Yesss! Thank you for discussing this 💯 I have very long nails (you can see em on my account) and I always say like no they’re not a problem for me they don’t slow me down bcuz I did decide to wake up one day and go to extreme length from nothing. I slowly increased length as they grew out and I always recommend others do it this way, but no one wants to listen.
i ignorantly did the right thing. I started getting acrylics last year and requested a very baby short extension. I slowly started to ask for more length and I’ve never had a breakage❤ I love my nail tech and she does great quality work. I soak off my sets between our visits and my natural nails are always strong and healthy below.
My nails are strong and I love wearing them long because yes, you look more put together effortlessly. I'm about to buy my lamp and drill to start on my own and I can't wait 😍
I grow my natural nails really long. I just love how they look. They grow really fast too thanks to my genetics so I don’t mind when they break coz they will grow back fast and strong again.
Absolutely! If people want really long nails I like to leave a little bit of extra length when prepping them. I’ve seen so many nail techs cut the natural nails sooooo short, like, uncomfortably short, when preparing- before even asking how long the client wants their set. It’s helpful to know in advance, to know how you should prep.🤷♀️
I’ve had long nails since I was 12 and I’m almost 40 now (I have a pic of myself in 7th grade with long black acrylics ❤) so I’m very used to them and can do just about everything with them. I’ve used poly gel for the past 3 years and it’s very durable in comparison to acrylic. Also I find that having stiletto shape last longer than coffin or just straight. Getting used to them takes a while and also a lot of consideration on how you do mundane things. Great video Suzie!!
Oh my word, those were some painful pictures of nail breaks. Thank you for this video. I’m going to give my nails a chance to grow before increasing my length!
Thank you Suzie and Grant for doing this video I've been doing my own nails for a couple years now but this explains why I always start out long and always with in a couple days I shorten them cause it's very uncomfortable great video thanks 👍👍
I'm so happy that the rule I use matches yours! People look at me weird when I tell them no because I don't want the nails to harm their natural ones. But I don't care. I'm not going to be the cause of damaged natural nails.
Honestly this makes a lot of sense and I feel like this should be talked about more because me personally I love long acrylic nails but my natural nail beds are naturally short and I bite them so it would either be like a situation like that or it would just be an insanely uncomfortable and it doesn't help that I'm a textured person so it would drive me crazy like I'm a textured oriented person so yeah it does make sense to grow it out that's what I've been thinking about and hearing and definitely agreeing on this should be talked about more
I couldn't agree more with this video - yes I imagine we've all been there - I did a set too long and nearly ripped both thumb nails off when they caught on a box I was carrying. It's taken almost a year to recover, I was in so much pain. I will never go through that again and will eventually do my nails at the third, third, third length when I feel like I could try again. Wonder if you could do a video on the best way to recover the condition of your nails after things like this happen - how did the women from your photos recover theirs etc.?
Thank you for this! From personal experience I knew that there isn't enough stability when you have long extensions over short nails but you articulated this perfectly as always! ❤️
Thank you so much, understand that I’ve been having pain with Long nails for so long but their so pretty and I see them on insta all the time I just want them and think their normal to wear everyday, they do hurt so bad when they break, imma start doing this method neo
This is actually great news for me because I like the challenge of having healthy nails and growing them while mastering the e file for my cuticles (which has helped me improve my posture because how you sit and your supporting musculature, can really ease - or hinder - the process). I can just paint over a little gel and grow them out instead of feeling like, I must have done something wrong lol.
Well this helped me I got my nails done for the first time and I wasn't told about not going longer nails and it broke and completely ripped my entire nail off it took a month for my nail to grow again I had almost nothing left maybe a floss layer of nail this was very informative and very educational thank you
I have stuck by this rule doing my daughter’s short bitten nails ( because of Grant’s videos ) and her nails are now looking so good and doing amazing!
This is a great video and something more people need to consider. I’m right handed so I always keep my right hand shorter than my left but even still I don’t have very long nails at all 😅 but it’s nice having short nails on one hand so I can still function 😂
Oh hey that first viewer photo was mine! :) she's healed up nicely but man that was a bad time! Have definitely been growing out my natural nails under enhancements since!!!
I've been wondering why I have been fine with the longer nails I have just put on, but this makes me realise that I have been slowly putting on longer polygel, keeping the natural nail as it grows. Which will help me choose what to do if I have to cut any of my natural nails!
Been there! I recently received a poly gel kit for free and I did some longer nails that I wasn’t used to. When I was renovating my kitchen, my thumbnail got caught when a heavy box slipped out of my hands. I was in excruciating pain! I thought my nail was gone; I was scared to look at it. Luckily it was still intact, but the false nail was half damaged. My nail had a thin layer of my real nail peel off with it. For weeks my thumb felt bruised. Wish I had seen this video a few months ago! Thanks for educating us!❤
Fantastic video and I'm totally sharing this with some friends who need to know this. I grow my natural nails long and do either an acrylic or gel overlay or I'll just polish my nails because I do it all myself due to having issues with people touching my hands (autism.) I've ago never been able to stand nails as long ad the long nail you show in this video. It makes doing a lot of things much harder lol. But I also really love nail artists who put care and thought and passion into their work and you are an absolute standout in those areas. Incredible video that everyone needs to see!!!
That's how I have my nails, mine are my own nails that started out short, and I grew it out long. And that's where I get those questions from people like "omg, how can you do anything with those nails, I could never.". I got used to my nails doing daily stuff as they slowly grew ..
I have never tried nails, but I always dreamed about so bad 😞 Now that I'm looking for places where I can get them I'm really glad that I found your video! Very informative and fun to watch, thank you so much 💕
That is the best path to getting long nails that are the strongest, to be honest. I know people are impatient, and they want long nails right away, but they do take a risk of breaking their natural nail quite severely. So I always recommend getting a shorter reasonable length and literally within just a few months your natural nails could be very long with the enhancements very long over top. This makes it much better. Successful happier nail
I never got long nails but I have always wondered how could be possible that no one was gonna experience some problems, like breaking the natural nail underneath! Now that I've seen the pictures I understand I was right! Thank you :)
hi Suzie, this is information worth gold. Thank you for it. Now here is my question and I will try to not be confusing: How do you decide final nail length with the rule of 3rds = here goes: (1) do you measure the longest nail bed/from cuticle to beginning of free edge and give that same length to all fingers OR (2) do you measure each nail individually even if once you turn your hand to see the tip of finger and all nails are different length? So simply said, rule of 3rds length or look? That has been the biggest enigma for me! ugghhh
I went to a nail shop once years ago and requested short but got long nails. They of course broke and I learned from watching your videos to do them myself. I use the silk wrap on my nails to in my mind protect my nails from product.

Yup- no one should talked into wearing a longer length - looks nice yes but they need to be functional too- and let’s not overlook how adorable short is
I remember asking for short acrylics, but the tech still made them longer
I wound up filing the acrylics down myself, and just more similarly colored polish on the tips
I definitely would want to go and get more nails done, but I'd rather have them short and more natural. So my real nails can heal 😆
I do not have words enough to say how much I LOVE Grant's very Canadian "yeah, no" answer!
I love it when you do Grant's nails. The energy you two have together is so fun. It seems like you have a great friendship.
Oh my goodness,,!!!
as a girl who grows her nails out, i can say, ive adapted to my long nails so much that i feel SUPER uncomfortable whenever my nail breaks and leaves a mm left above the tip of my finger. seeing his natural nail be below the length of his finger tip honestly made me cringe so much because i just can't imagine my nails being that short. my skin has actually grown underneath my nail to the point where its not even possible for me to cut my nail down below my fingertip! of course, i do NOT have a problem with that though. having medium length nails is actually super useful! i just simply cant fathom having my skin tough a surface before my nail. So really, no matter what way you decide to go with your nails, it’s a commitment lol.
my skin has grown in the same way, can't cut them like that anymore
@@brooklynsbaby4367 yeah, the shortest mine goes is too the tip of my finger lol
Whenever mine grow long and need cutting I cut them shorter and it takes a few days and the skin shrinks back to the nailbed. It's definitely weird at first but not for too long.
Natural nails babies.. Saaaameee here
Wait, your nail beds can grow back???? I never knew that. Mine are just as short as the guy in the video, because I used to bite my nails. Ever since then the edge of my nail bed at my fingertips get crooked and uneven, and so I developed a habit if pushing them down to try and even it out. I stopped biting mine years ago, but with misshapen nail beds it's hard not to mess with them. I'd probably have to consistently paint my nails to be able to leave them alone, but my cuticles are so horrible that painting my nails is a nightmare. My nails are just bad looking in every way 😂
I would use a cuticle oil, but my cat sheds so much and I have ocd and don't want to get cat hair stuck to my fingertips cause hair is a thing for me haha.
Nothing wrong with shorter nails. They are beautiful
I'm a massage therapist and violist so long nails for me are out of the question. I admire other people's, though.
I've tried to play with long nails..like Dolly ..even natural long nails and they just end up looking chewed up because I dont use picks.😂
Well said 💛
Wait, nail beds can grow back?!
There is one of him working on them a bit! A lot of it is his holiday sets and stuff, but I love watching him get this stuff done ^-^
@@scaliedog2777 right? He's great! Lol
“Oh look at me, going about my day,” 🤣 I say the same thing to myself as I go through my day 😂💅🏿✨
Grant!! The mascot of Nail Career Education!
Lol that’s funny
This makes so much sense! Longer nails always hurt me. It felt like my nail was being pulled up. Nail techs always want to put long nails on me and I have to ask them not to.
Thank you so much, Suzie. I've never seen a video on this. No nail tech has ever talked about this. I appreciate your perspective from experience.
This is so true. Thank you for sharing your experiences
@@NailCareerEducation Much love Suzie 🥹💐🥰
I went to a nail tech for the first time, she wanted to put long nails on me ( I never had long nails because they always break) so I said no I want short nails. She did that but made them too thick after outgrown I gave her one more chance but again short and thick. Then I started to watch your channel and learned myself to put my own nails on in the way I like it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about everything that comes with nails ❤
@Petra040784, no they do not always break. Been doing mine for years.
Agreed!! It isn’t worth paying someone to not be happy!
I now have shorter nails and use lots of gorgeous bling to show others with shorter nails that they can be short AND beautifully decorated 😍😍
Thank you so much for another wonderful and informative video 💐💐💐💐💐
Well said - thank you
I don't get my nails done ever, but I just find Suzie's videos calming and nice. Hahah!
I think of Susie when I’m getting a manicure and someone doesn’t do something as well as she does. 😂
So many people file really rough and it sets my teeth on edge. Susie has said in several videos to file in a way that I don’t find uncomfortable and it doesn’t any take longer.
I watch her to go to sleep. She is so relaxing
Susie is literally the best nail tech I’ve ever walked! I’ve learned so much in the years I’ve watched her.
This has been the most informative video about nails that I've watched recently. I never knew about any of this. I always asked for the length that I was comfortable wearing, but this video has broken all this down perfectly.
Yup good to have the truth
That’s what I was going for
I’m glad you like that
One of the most sensible explanations ever! I applaud your experience and honesty!!❤❤
I absolutely agree! 💯
I'd be concerned that your nails are so thin they are painful when left uncovered. That's alarming to me.
Thank you for editing the broken nail photos to black and white! It’s very much appreciated
Fabulous!!!!! 💛
Are you in Massachusetts?! I can't find anyone and my left hand is useless 😭
@@molcol100 short nail beds and actively using your fingertips is definitely a reason for your fingers to be sore already. Adding longer nails on top of that has to be unbearable.
You are such a class act. People 1st...not $. Thank you
I have recently started my career as a nail technician but i have never advised my clients to have ridiculous length or even longer nails.
Exactly
You need to ease into longer nails and you need to be able to advise your client of what may be best for them.
wow, seeing these broken nails hurts too much, I also went through this. This wonderful video teaches you a lot!
Thank you for this video -
for those of us who have issues with natural nails breaking so they’re always short, this is really nice to see!
I’m so happy to see him make a reappearance on your channel!
FINALLY SOMEONE WITH A SENSE OF PROPER UNDERSTANDING!!!!
Watching your videos actually helped me do gel nails and quit biting my nails. I love your content. I even went in once with super short nails bitten off. And had a nail tech put way too much length. I'm glad you did this video
So interesting. You're the best for sharing this. Would never have thought of it.
YES!
Ouch! Great video, such a good reminder, thank you. Thanks for removing the colour from the photos to hide the blood! Great to see Grant back 👍🏻
I knew the risks were serious but I didn't realize it was THAT bad, honestly I'm glad the pics were in black and white - thank you for that!
Excellent
I love Grant....he gave me the courage to wear nail polish as a guy...now I'm addicted....
I have to say I just love your energy and how you embrace everyone ❤❤❤ I’m no nail pro at all but you have taught me a lot
I'm always happy to see Grant!
Thank you Suzie. Your videos always have the answers 🙏🏽
I grow my natural nails really long. I just love how they look. They grow really fast too thanks to my genetics so I don’t mind when they break coz they will grow back fast and strong again.
You’re very rare 💛
My nails are the same. I've actually had nail technicians tell me how healthy they are and just give me a basic manicure or French tip.
Wow 😞
This is the first time I'm seeing a video on this subject!
So Love how you explain things😘
Can’t wait for this to be in Reels format so I can share with my followers! This is exactly what I preach to my clients!! 👏👏👏
Oh my word, those were some painful pictures of nail breaks. Thank you for this video. I’m going to give my nails a chance to grow before increasing my length!
Thanks for making the pics black and white 😬😬!
Thank you Suzie and Grant for doing this video I've been doing my own nails for a couple years now but this explains why I always start out long and always with in a couple days I shorten them cause it's very uncomfortable great video thanks 👍👍
I honestly love all your honesty.
Love how Susie is always looking out for the best of the person! 💗
I'm so happy that the rule I use matches yours! People look at me weird when I tell them no because I don't want the nails to harm their natural ones. But I don't care. I'm not going to be the cause of damaged natural nails.
can you make a video talking about the nail beds and how they attach or when they get damaged with certain techniques nail artists do or don't do?
Thank you for giving the .5 extra length rule of thumb to make it easy 😊 never knew what point made nails "too long"
Thank you for drawing attention to this common problem we face with clients wanting longer than what is safe to do!
Thank you so much, understand that I’ve been having pain with Long nails for so long but their so pretty and I see them on insta all the time I just want them and think their normal to wear everyday, they do hurt so bad when they break, imma start doing this method neo
That’s not good- now you know why
This is actually great news for me because I like the challenge of having healthy nails and growing them while mastering the e file for my cuticles (which has helped me improve my posture because how you sit and your supporting musculature, can really ease - or hinder - the process).
I can just paint over a little gel and grow them out instead of feeling like, I must have done something wrong lol.
Well this helped me I got my nails done for the first time and I wasn't told about not going longer nails and it broke and completely ripped my entire nail off it took a month for my nail to grow again I had almost nothing left maybe a floss layer of nail this was very informative and very educational thank you
I'm so glad to see Grant back too btw!
I have stuck by this rule doing my daughter’s short bitten nails ( because of Grant’s videos ) and her nails are now looking so good and doing amazing!
Excellent- love this
Wow! What an important lesson. Thank you Suzie!!

@@NailCareerEducation it's really important! I appreciate you educating us!!
Please make this available on IG. This needs to be shared
Thanks for educating us!❤
Fantastic Subject Suzie I love the way you explain all the reasons
I learnt the 1/3s by you it's great Info xx🥰😇
You are so entertaining and your knowledge blows my mind!! Thank you for the work you do!
I just bought the same greyish- blue color. It's gorgeous.
I have never tried nails, but I always dreamed about so bad 😞
Now that I'm looking for places where I can get them I'm really glad that I found your video! Very informative and fun to watch, thank you so much 💕
It’s hard to find a good tech- ask around. If your unsure ask to have one finger done and then you can see the quality before you commit to all 10.
Thankoo for educational content! I love the length between short and medium 😊
OMG I love him. Great friend
This is great, never even thought about this and that’s why I’ve always had so much pain with fake nails.. but most salons won’t or don’t say this
Wow!!! Thank you for this. Now I get whyyy mine break
Thank you 😊❤
This makes so much sense. I am afraid of getting long nails, but they looks so pretty. So I am going to start short and let them grow out. ☺️
Oh ya - it’s happening more than ever right now
@@NailCareerEducation thank you for sharing your knowledge! 🙏
hi Suzie, this is information worth gold.
