  • Here's a full explanation of maps, levels, and sublevels so you can decide how you would like to organize your projects.
    I also left in some unexpected level saving/missing content fishy business, so you can also see what I did to (try and) fix it, as that's always good to see as well...

    Use of Levels requires that all Maps/Levels are in the same folder - so for sanity - create a "Top Level" "Maps" folder for all your maps that are participating in Level streaming maps usage

    • @3dJC
      @3dJC  2 года назад

      Actually, you can have your levels in various folders for cinematics use (my main target audience, vs games), and if setting your streaming method on each to "always loaded" (say you're assembling multiple levels of lights, props, characters, etc in an animation example), then all is well, everything will all load up fine. You can make as big of a folder mess as you want and it will still work, but I agree trying to group them does at least make easier to find them. Also if they are in multiple folders and you lose one, using the filter for "levels" in content browser is pretty handy too.

    Thanks for sharing JC! It was actually fun and funny to see how real world problem occurs. I have a noob question. I have read the documentation about level streaming, volume streaming. But if we have a project with multiple large heavy (geometry and textures) persistent level. how does UE handle going from 1 persistent level to the next in game? Do we have a choice to preload or force no preloading of all the persistent levels in the game? For example, 1 persistent level is on a ship with complex interiors. 2nd persisten level is on an island. game play teleports between these 2 persistent levels. The concern here is just to keep memory requirements low usage. Thanks!!!

    • @3dJC
      @3dJC  2 года назад

      Good question Max! I'm more focused over on animation/cinematics using sequencer side of UE, so I'm a bit less savvy on the level loading during gameplay side of things... but if I have a chance I'll poke around and see if I can figure something out - or maybe someone else can jump in here to answer as well?

    If I create a dozen of sublevels for different scenes in short film but pull in a couple of ones at a time, how would that effect to the performance, especially in framerate? Does only a couple of sublevels loaded to the main level effect to the performance?

    • @3dJC
      @3dJC  2 года назад

      You know, I’m not sure when the frame rate would be (a/e?)ffected… I’m sure eventually I would, but since generally rendering out movies/frames vs RT game play, it’s mainly have much can you tolerate for interactive working in editor… I’ve never pushed too hard myself so I really can’t help much…

    Terminology could be better. Maps are Levels currently, and sub-levels are in the tab labeled as "Levels".
    Should remove the term Maps completely, let levels be called levels, and label the sub-levels tab "sub-levels" lol. Makes this a hard topic to explain.
