Very enjoyable video riding some of my favourite roads, I am going to have to update my Simon Weir as this route isn't in mine (2015 copy). When taking the (very) long route to Whitby I have bypassed the A173 and A171, as you say that part isn't great, on the B1257 at Kirkby in Cleveland turn Right and follow the back roads through Battersby, Castleton, Danby, Grossmont and onto Sleights then Whitby, make a route on Garmin Basecamp. The roads in places are single track and there A LOT of sheep so be careful, it's also tiring riding a sports bike on those kids of roads, but what scenery.
What a great route. I use Simon's books as a guide on lots of my tours. I was in the Lake District for three days a week ago. I rode through the Forest of Bowland on the way up and the Yorkshire Dales National Park on the way down. Many of the roads I used for those two rides and almost all the days riding through the Lakes were from Simon, his recommendations are always excellent. Thanks for taking us along on the ride.
Have to agree big time I've never had a bad route from any of Simon's books. Sounds like you had a cracking few days in the lakes Neil ride safe mate and thanks for watching.
Hi Steve, mecand the wife have just been up to Rosedale on a bus trip and stayed in Rosedale abbey in a farm house hotel, covered the old iron works top of chimney bank, castleton, hemsley and thornton le dale what wonderful scenery....God's own country
The P on your and John's sat nav means PAY as it is now a subscription service by BMW? The Coffee and Cake Tour for Bikers sounds like a winner. John must do it. A very scenic route. The only drawback is that it's 170 miles up the A1(M) for me and then back. Maybe take a few days and combine it with a few other routes. Many thanks Steve.

If you get the chance have breakfast at Drift Cafe. You wont be disappointed, I'm often in that place when up from Middlesbrough.

Another great video Steve, I have just shared it with my riding buddy, because you’ve been right through our playground! It just goes to show, listening to the commentary, the things we take for granted are of much interest to those who don’t encounter them regularly! One of our usual meeting points is the Forge Tearooms, they serve very good food, and reasonably priced. It tends to be our breakfast meet early on a weekend morning. From there we play all around the North York Moors, often riding the Yorkshire TT as a feeder road when travelling anywhere North, beyond Teesside! Keep the videos coming Steve, can’t wait for your caravan base trip this time. Ride safe and remember, Shiny Side Up! 🏍🏍👍
