  • In this episode we ride the North Yorkshire Moors 58 mile loop from the Britain for Bikers book by Simon Weir.
    Riding through some lovely villages and seeing some stunning scenery. Your on the B1257 for 19.5 miles also known as the TT road with its sweeping bends a fabulous ride. Then there's the minor road through Castleton and Hutton le Hole with its stunning views of the moors either side of you. Another Simon Weir classic really, I highly recommend this one if your anywhere near it.
    Having said that we rode 70 mile there to the start of it calling in at the NY500 Cafe near Pickering where as you'll see saw some amazing Lamborghini's.

    What a great route. I use Simon's books as a guide on lots of my tours. I was in the Lake District for three days a week ago. I rode through the Forest of Bowland on the way up and the Yorkshire Dales National Park on the way down. Many of the roads I used for those two rides and almost all the days riding through the Lakes were from Simon, his recommendations are always excellent. Thanks for taking us along on the ride.

    Very enjoyable video riding some of my favourite roads, I am going to have to update my Simon Weir as this route isn't in mine (2015 copy). When taking the (very) long route to Whitby I have bypassed the A173 and A171, as you say that part isn't great, on the B1257 at Kirkby in Cleveland turn Right and follow the back roads through Battersby, Castleton, Danby, Grossmont and onto Sleights then Whitby, make a route on Garmin Basecamp. The roads in places are single track and there A LOT of sheep so be careful, it's also tiring riding a sports bike on those kids of roads, but what scenery.

    Good to hear your venturing further north for your holiday camp this year. Cresswell is a great stopping point for all the good roads around Northumberland and even into Scotland. If you get the chance have breakfast at Drift Cafe. You wont be disappointed, I'm often in that place when up from Middlesbrough.

    Another great video Steve, I have just shared it with my riding buddy, because you’ve been right through our playground! It just goes to show, listening to the commentary, the things we take for granted are of much interest to those who don’t encounter them regularly!
    One of our usual meeting points is the Forge Tearooms, they serve very good food, and reasonably priced. It tends to be our breakfast meet early on a weekend morning.
    From there we play all around the North York Moors, often riding the Yorkshire TT as a feeder road when travelling anywhere North, beyond Teesside!

    Not sure where you were heading back to but at the end if you went straight over instead of left, the road to Malton is good. Great ride, local to me so done it a fair few times,

    If you head up that way again from Pickering, on the A170 hang a right through Wrelton to Rosedale Abbey and through it on to New Road you go past Bell End Farm on the right that takes you up the hill and a cracking bit of road up to Blakey Ridge or you can carry on the A170 reverse of what you did but in Hutton Le Hole turn right through the village towards Rosedale Abbey. You will travel down Chimney Bank, its steep but you will be impressed by the views and you can head out again to New Road and back up to Blakey Ridge. The Pub you passed on Blakey Ridge which you missed on the video is The Lion Inn does really good food too.

    Hi Steve, thanks for another route to try, BUT!! I need to ask you a question about your Europe tour you did last year, can you tell me or where do you find out what documents you need to travel though France . Thanks

    • @Steve-Clark
      @Steve-Clark  Год назад +1

      Hi Brian we didn't go last year but last time we did just google requirements for motorcycles in europe. I know when we went last for france we had to take spare light bulbs a high viz vest a red triangle and even a couple of your own breathalyser's. Think its eased a bit now hope that helps a little.
