Ok, I can do this, but why the heck did they make it so complicated and with so many steps??!!? My previous printer was a BREEZE. I scanned many, MANY beautiful photos (to frame as gifts, or hang on my own walls) by simply laying the photo on the glass, pressing the 'scan' icon on top of printer, and voila, there it was, on my glossy photo paper, or my matte photo paper, or whatever paper I chose. Piece of cake. Perfection. Then they (whoever the heck 'they' are) go and 'fix something that's not broken' - complicating it, and basically doing away with what used to be an enjoyable project ... especially for friends; birthdays, holiday gifts, you name it!, Yep, I know I can send to walgreen's, or any number of businesses who have their little photo departents, but alas, invariably screw up what used to be perfection (for me) accomplishing each project right out of my own little house, and in my own little "craft corner" I'd set up. Bottom line.......OY VEY!! !! !!

HP scan used to be on my computer, but (an automatic update?) has it removed since.... A search for HP scan on google leads me to the HP website, a search for HP scan on the HP website leads me to 'no product available'. Fix this.
Is there any way to run scan program in fullscreen? The thumbnail is tiny and if you click on it its not going to be much larger. Yes you zoom on it, but annoying to use when you try to sharpen a seal on a bill or something. The old scan software was better in that function.

For example, our last printer allowed us to scan one page, and then asked us if we'd like to scan another. We could add as many documents/pages to a single file as we wanted to, and then click "finish".

How many pages can you feed in? I have a 40 page document. My efforts to work with the feeder in the past never worked. It jammed, fed multiple pages through at one time. It was a mess. How can I get my OfficeJet Pro 6978 to scan without having to open printer assistant? Before when I had my old laptop, I did not have to do this with the software at the time (the software must have been older during late 2017 at the time before it got updated in April 2018 which is what I currently have now on my new laptop). Do I need to download the older software that allowed for that and if so, do you have a link for me to download it? It cuts the amount of time I would have to spend just to scan documents which really helps.

If you notice any markings or guides on your scanner bed, follow it for proper placement of the document. You can also load multi-page document into the automatic document feeder, if your printer supports ADF. You can shut scanner lid once you are done. Scanning quality of photo's is very poor . When the photo is scanned and zoomed in, it doesn't look clear. I have taken all the resolutions from 75 to 1200. I have HPSmart on my computer, opened it, looks nothing like this UI, I have over a hundred A4 size photos to scan and put in a file...WHY ON EARTH ISN'T THIS A ONE CLICK OPTION??? It's literally taking 5 mins per photo to scan(selecting the A4 size for it to scan does nothing, it scans the entire bed every time) then adjust the borders(which pop up crooked, even though the source photo is even against the top of the glass) and then re-select the same file every time. Windows 7 (constant) issue: after (RE)installation, the SCAN does not work (again). Reinstall, reconfigure, it works again. Time passes (not even couple of weeks), the issue is BACK! Tried also the online IP address scan link, saved in my browser, IT DOES NOT WORK AGAIN, after a while. And you didn't updated any drivers since October of last year - big black minus point, again, for you guys. I will post this info on all videos of this printer, until you finally release a new update THAT fixes the SCAN problem. And it is a problem that you already acknowledge in your manual - because you already offered a SCAN link, in case nothing works out; what does this has to mean? You can't fix a SCAN problem? I tried all the suggested things: firewall deactivated, checked the Wi-Fi and so on. As mentioned, the SCAN works a while, after reinstallation/reconfiguration, but then again after a while I get the error: "The HP Deskjet 3700 was not found", when I try to scan. And the SCAN link does not work either. But the AiO iPad app works... The "AiO" app for iPad works all the time! But, who installs this printer on his PC or laptop, to go and take his iPad to SCAN and send via e-mail one's documents???!!! Do not forget: I can still PRINT through the Wi-Fi, from all devices (PC etc.). Very odd... A little disappointed by HP (every printer I bought from them had some issues with the software). This will be the last printer that I buy from them. It's a promise! Why should I still write to the support center? To recommend me their online FAQ/Help links? THIS PRINTER NEEDS AN UPDATE OR SOMETHING! In case you didn't abandoned this printer all ready. Other than that, the little space it takes, it's a dream. And the turquoise color is a delight to have. I have followed the steps, but when I type in the model number, it does not take me to "HP Printer assistant" If I press "Scan" on the front of the printer/scanner, it asks me for a destination for the scan. There are hundreds of addresses as it has detected ALL of the computers close to me. It does not identify the unit I am working from specifically, but simply lists the hundreds of machines in my location. This is a very disappointing feature and gives hundreds of possibilities to send a confidential document to an unknown location!

I'm sure there are lots of clever people out there who enjoy the complex features, but this is just too complicated for me. It was a "Plug and play" thing that worked perfectly when I bought it. Interestingly, it stopped working just after the warranty expired! I'll be putting this one in the recycling and be buying a machine from another manufacturer next time.

You can scan a document that is larger than the scanner glass by scanning the document
in two parts. After scanning the two parts, the printer joins them together, saving them as
a single file.
NOTE: TIFF black and PDF black are not supported for B-size scan.
The minimum top and bottom margin for your large original must match or exceed 6
mm (0.24 inch).
To scan an original from the printer control panel
Use the following instructions to scan a large document.
1. Touch Scan, and then select the Memory Device.
2. Touch Document Type to choose the type of document you want to save. Make
changes to scan options, if needed.
3. Touch Paper Size and select either A3 or Ledger (11X17 in.) to choose the size of
the original document
4. Touch Settings to rename the scan file name OR change the output quality.
5. Touch Start Scan to load the animation that shows how to place the A3/11x17 original
on the scan glass.
Load the original according to the animation, and then select Scan.
6. When prompted, select Continue.
7. Turn the paper around according to the animation, and then select Scan. The printer
joins the two copies into one document.
To scan an original from ArcSoft (Windows only)
1. Load your original print-side down in the right or left -back corner of the glass. For
more information, see Load an original on the scanner glass.
2. On the computer, open the scan software.
From the computer desktop, click Start, select Programs or All Programs, select
the folder for your HP printer, and then select HP Scan.
3. Touch Size Original to choose the size of the original document, and then select
A3 or 11 x 17 inch.

For example, our last printer allowed us to scan one page, and then asked us if we'd like to scan another. We could add as many documents/pages to a single file as we wanted to, and then click "finish".

How many pages can you feed in? I have a 40 page document. My efforts to work with the feeder in the past never worked. It jammed, fed multiple pages through at one time. It was a mess. Maybe if I want to feed in a single page, this is an alternative to the flat bed. How about instructions for big docs.

How can I get my OfficeJet Pro 6978 to scan without having to open printer assistant? Before when I had my old laptop, I did not have to do this with the software at the time (the software must have been older during late 2017 at the time before it got updated in April 2018 which is what I currently have now on my new laptop). Do I need to download the older software that allowed for that and if so, do you have a link for me to download it? It cuts the amount of time I would have to spend just to scan documents which really helps.

+Lineth Gonzalez HP DeskJet 1010 scan allows you to scan documents and photos from your printer to Windows or Mac computer. While installing the full feature driver software, the HP DeskJet 1010 scan software gets downloaded simultaneously.
Lift the scanner lid on your printer. On the scanner keep the document or photo that you wish to scan in a way the print side faces down. If you notice any markings or guides on your scanner bed, follow it for proper placement of the document.
You can also load multi-page document into the automatic document feeder, if your printer supports ADF. You can shut scanner lid once you are done.
Click the Windows button on your computer and type in your HP DeskJet 1010 to scan. Select your printer from the results to view the HP Printer Assistant.
From HP Printer Assistant, click the tab for Print & Scan or Print depending on your printer. Click Scan and then click Scan a Document or Photo.

I have HPSmart on my computer, opened it, looks nothing like this UI, I have over a hundred A4 size photos to scan and put in a file...WHY ON EARTH ISN'T THIS A ONE CLICK OPTION??? It's literally taking 5 mins per photo to scan(selecting the A4 size for it to scan does nothing, it scans the entire bed every time) then adjust the borders(which pop up crooked, even though the source photo is even against the top of the glass) and then re-select the same file every time. Windows 7 (constant) issue: after (RE)installation, the SCAN does not work (again).
Reinstall, reconfigure, it works again. Time passes (not even couple of weeks), the issue is BACK!
Tried also the online IP address scan link, saved in my browser, IT DOES NOT WORK AGAIN, after a while.
And you didn't updated any drivers since October of last year - big black minus point, again, for you guys.
I will post this info on all videos of this printer, until you finally release a new update THAT fixes the SCAN problem.
And it is a problem that you already acknowledge in your manual - because you already offered a SCAN link,
in case nothing works out; what does this has to mean? You can't fix a SCAN problem?
I tried all the suggested things: firewall deactivated, checked the Wi-Fi and so on.
As mentioned, the SCAN works a while, after reinstallation/reconfiguration,
but then again after a while I get the error: "The HP Deskjet 3700 was not found", when I try to scan.
And the SCAN link does not work either.
But the AiO iPad app works...
The "AiO" app for iPad works all the time! But, who installs this printer on his PC or laptop,
to go and take his iPad to SCAN and send via e-mail one's documents???!!!
Do not forget: I can still PRINT through the Wi-Fi, from all devices (PC etc.).
Very odd...
A little disappointed by HP (every printer I bought from them had some issues with the software).
This will be the last printer that I buy from them. It's a promise!

I have followed the steps, but when I type in the model number, it does not take me to "HP Printer assistant" If I press "Scan" on the front of the printer/scanner, it asks me for a destination for the scan. There are hundreds of addresses as it has detected ALL of the computers close to me. It does not identify the unit I am working from specifically, but simply lists the hundreds of machines in my location. This is a very disappointing feature and gives hundreds of possibilities to send a confidential document to an unknown location!

@@HPSupport Thanks for the reply. I'm no further ahead. having looked at your link. Perhaps, there is a market for a scanner / printer that is simple to use. I'm sure there are lots of clever people out there who enjoy the complex features, but this is just too complicated for me. It was a "Plug and play" thing that worked perfectly when I bought it. Interestingly, it stopped working just after the warranty expired! I'll be putting this one in the recycling and be buying a machine from another manufacturer next time.
