Mine was the "wavey wave" panoramic shot you took. Something about the colours and the shape. Beautifully captured.
I think it is 3rd one of the foggy trees. The mood fits so well with all that branches. Nice video Michael, glad you kept your perserverance up and share with us.

You described my workflow to a tee; I get excited in the field about a composition and when it opens up for processing I'm disappointed. It's gotten to the point where the more excited I am about a photo in the field, the more afraid I am to open it for processing when I get home.

I think you're one of the few photographers that I watch on RUclips that uses a telephoto lens fairly regularly. It has inspired me to try and be more creative with mine. Thanks for another great vlog.
Hey Kelly! I love using my telephoto lens for landscape photography too to make what I call intimate landscapes. It really allows me to focus on what is exciting me most about the image. Maybe it is being in the midwest where we don't have a plethora of grand sweeping landscapes to photograph that led to that style of photography. Or maybe it is because my eyesight isn't that good and looking through a telephoto makes things pop for me. Michael is an awesome photographer, cinematographer and storyteller. I hope one day my videos and photos can be as consistently good as his. Keep Wandering, Ken

great pictures sir your first wave picture you showed made me feel as if the wave was still breaking in slow-motion it was crazy very well done but I think my favorite shot was the frame inside a frame with the two tree trunks and the sunlight backlighting the foliage with some sun rays absolutely stunning my friend!

The first min of the video put a smile on my face, it felt good to get a glimpse of mother nature through someone's eyes and soul. And then I get to hear the most calming voice I get to hear everytime I see your videos. It's beautiful and I felt a rush of good vibe emotions throughout the video. Stunning, particularly like the wave shots and something I havent tried, using a telephoto to get more abstract views or cropping to the wave shape. Many times what excites me in the field doesn't translate in Lightroom but it's the unexpected gems that make me love this hobby even more. Awesome stuff. John Pouw NZ

Great video. Nice to see someone from the Bay Area. Gavin’s video of you two doing Astro in Crater Lake brought me over here and excited to do some binge watching of your channel. Love exploring around this area but get a little fearful of all the photography theft/assaults that happen(s) around here. Just need to be careful I guess.
My favorite: must of been the light rays because when it came on screen I impulsively said wow! But, I liked them all. I live by the Great Lakes and you wave shots made me say to myself "why haven't I tried that yet?" Thanjs for the great video and keep wandering, Ken

@@MichaelShainblum My in-laws got a place close to Lake Michigan, so I'll definitely be prioritizing getting some wave action images this year. I am thinking of getting over there soon for a winter beach outing for my RUclips Channel. The cottage is winterized so there is no water, but there is heat! Take care! Love your videos!

Great video and images, as always, Michael. I've always admired your aesthetic, and the simplicity of the second tree shot really appeals to me. I love the (cropped) panoramic wave shot. Just curious... Did you hand-hold the wave shots, or was your camera on a tripod?

Mike, you explained well your set up for the time-lapse, but how do you play them back? Is it just a close knit series of shots on you video timeline or is there some other software that makes the time-lapse video out of the stills?
Beautiful Wave images, I've been trying to get some sharp images myself recently, you're dead right about experimenting with different focusing techniques, sometimes the camera has trouble pinpointing exactly what you expect. I noticed you're using the Sony in the video, so what where you filming on?

While I'm here, can I make you a proposal for a video? I would really love to know something about your "ethics" behind post-processing.
Because a problem I personally have (and I'm sure I'm not the only one xD) is that I want to make beautiful images, accentuating interesting elements of my images in PP, but at the same time I'm often concerned about exagering in color saturation, selective adjustments (for example I love dodge and burn, but I'm really not very sure it's a "fair" technique), and others techniques...
Can you tell us something about this? Is more important to have a beautiful final image, no matters which techniques I use, or the "raw" image with few adjustments, with maybe some cons but with all its authenticity?
I think it could be very interesting :)

Not Michael obviously but I suspect we have similar opinions on the subject. Shoot and edit how you want. There is no unethical way to post process an image as long as you're honest about the image in the event someone asks or how you present it. Do what makes you happy.
I assume only the timelapse was shot on the A7S3 and the other photos were taken on something else?
The timelapse was with the A7S3 and the photos were with the A7R4, then I went back for the lightrays with the Nikon D850. I was renting the Sonys.
@@MichaelShainblum Ah okay so this was around the time you were in Utah or after that part where you still had the Sonys. Makes sense. Im typically a "gear doesn't matter" kind of person but when you said you were shooting on the a7s3 I was a bit perplexed.
@@AlexArmitage Haha yeah I was testing it out, this video was filmed right after my Utah trip. Then of course the Light Rays part of the video is when I had already sent the Sonys back. I shot most of the video portion on the Sony A7S3 and it made the vlogging aspect so much easier. I will probably upgrade from my current A7Rii (which I use for most of my videos now) soon.
@@MichaelShainblum I went with the XT4 mostly because I couldn't justify the double in price for the a7s3 just for the vlogs. However the ability to potentially exchange lenses from the video camera to what I'm shooting photos on isn't lost on me. XT4 has great improvements but the autofocus is still unreliable sadly. I get the vibes you might be switching from the d850 to sony eventually so you can use the same lenses between photo/video camera yeah?
@@AlexArmitage The X-T4 is great, I think the trouble people have with he system is using lenses that are little older in the line-up and not up to scratch for video. The 10-24 for example is great, even the 18-55 kit is very good for video, but some of the prime just don't perform for video at all!!
