Being someone who was born in SF and have lived there for my entire life (except for now being in college), it holds such a magical feeling. I love the city, it will always be my home, and no matter the faults it is such a wonderful and amazing place
FANCY SEEING YOU HERE, TAYTUM! Would have to echo everything you said. Having moved away from SF for school, its videos like these that remind me of the unparalleled charm of this city.
Thank you for making the city look beautiful. San Francisco gets so much hate online but this city is such a magical place. I been to all of the major cities along the West Coast but there is nothing like here. I am a bartender here, whenever you come back to the city I would love to show you some amazing bars and also ones all the locals go to. It not roaring like it was before the pandemic but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Thank you again for the quality and wholesome content. -Aaron
1000% agree with you. I find San Francisco the most photogenic city I’ve been too. My favorite city actually. Been going back yearly (more than twice in some years) This city will never get old for me.
I lived in SF before the pandemic, very near Powell Street -- took the cable car home from work all the time. Unfortunately, the pandemic closed my company's office, and I had to move back home to Burbank -- don't get me wrong, living in LA is awesome, too. But I really, really, really miss San Francisco and the lifestyle. When I lived there, there were so many places that I wanted to shoot without all the damn tourists in the way. When the pandemic first hit, I got my chance. Only I found those places were now soulless, uninteresting, uninviting. I still took a few photos -- they're among my worst, ever. I may not have wanted the people in the photos, but it was the people who gave the city its life & joy. I totally agree with your assessment of SF -- it's like a world unto itself, and definitely, one of the greatest places to live on the west coast. Next time you're there, check out the Mosaic Stairs. There are 2 sets, the Hidden Garden Stairs (the lesser known) and the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps (everyone knows). At the top of the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps, you can keep going up to Grandview Park, where you'll get a stunning 360 degree view of San Francisco. Good video!
Great post. SF is in my fondest childhood memories. Life took that away until COVID triggered events that allowed me to spend the time there that I always wanted. You are so right about the tourists, they make it and break it at the same time
Great pix, Brae. In this digital age, many folks forget that photography needs a physical photograph at the end of the process. San Francisco has so many great sites - Mount Tamalpais, The former Jefferson Airplane House (a Victorian mansion painted black in the late ‘60’s), Coit Tower, Union Square, The Saint Francis Hotel, The Cathedral of Saint Mary (a 60’s modern church with the greatest pipe organ ever), China Town, Barbary Coast, Nob Hill and so much more. It would bee a great place to do a photo tour.
The F3 is elite for sure! I've shot on so many 35mm cameras and the F3 takes the win over cameras like the AE-1, A1, New F1etc. All great cameras but there is definitely something about the F3 that makes shooting 35mm magical! The shutter sound is truly chefs kiss.
Wow! Your photography and video production makes anyplace you visit look like a wonderland (even when it kind of already is). So glad you two enjoyed your stay here! ✌
I lived in SF for over a decade but left a year or two before the pandemic… these photos really makes me feel a thing. if you’ve happen to have seen Casey’s story regarding his relationship with NYC, I feel the same towards SF. Great photos man, appreciate the video. Btw, I used to ride my bike up hills like filbert, I took that bike everywhere, god I miss that city.
Thank you for putting in the effort of choosing actual songs (rather than stock background music) for your videos. It really makes a big difference! And the Pentax photos are gorgeous 🤩
I only visited SF for a few hours one Sunday, late summer of 2019 and like the rest of California, I fell in love with it. It worries me I’ll never get back (I live in England) but I will certainly try! Thank you for making another beautiful film of my beloved America and the images that accompany it, it’s as if I’m almost there with you.
How does this channel not have more subs Ive been addicted since finding your page earlier today this is like my dream just some film photography, and camping/road trips. Loving the content so far.
Favorite thing about my F3, the wind action. It’s a weird thing to like but there you have it. Great video. Great drone videos. My favorite was the first one inside the dome. Not saying there weren’t a lot of great shots, it’s just my favorite.
Born and raised in the City- you did an awesome job- so well done....... the City gets a lot of grief, some of it deserved..... but, deep down- still one of the finest places....work in progress...... thank you for the great video. Oh- I am Nikon heavy (and Mamiya 7ii)....... I will definitely try out my F3 with my 105...... heading to Marshall's Beach... you want to check that out next time..... and the Mission District, and the Castro, and the Presidio- and....... hope to meet you on your next journey here...... cheers
Cool video, I visited SF back in 1999 whilst on Honeymoon and have always planned to return - it really does look so photogenic. Time to start saving...
Having grown up in the Bay Area and now living in the PNW, thanks for the great video. It's an amazing photographic place and your video makes me miss it. Too bad the Golden Gate Bakery wasn't open (7 min mark). They make some of the most amazing egg custard tarts around.
Loved this one so much. Not just because the beautiful photos, video and storytelling but cause I went to college in SF and it took me right back there for 15 minutes. Thanks for this!
Incredibly well done. As an SF local, I think you did such a good job capturing the feel and soul of the city, even if you didn’t get to a fraction of our amazing landmarks ;)
Brae this video was like t documentary to me instead of a RUclips video. Very well done, I’m new to photography and my wife and I will visit San Francisco and LA for the first time in January 2023. Bit late to this video, but loved the fast pace of it, feel it has encapsulated how you must've felt with the limited amount of time you had in the city. As per usual the photos you have taken are of the highest quality. Seeing those and the video footage you have captured has made me really want to pay a visit to San Francisco now. Keep it up Brae!
@Brae Hunziker if you (or any other viewers) want to come out here, I'm happy to tour guide you around. Born and raised, and know all the good local spots.

I am so happy film had made such a come back. But I see a lot of bad scans and flat images online. It seems no one is taught the basics of film calibration anymore. it takes a lot of testing to match your film of choice, to your developer of choice, for best enlargement results in the darkroom. This is why we stuck to one film and one developer. We didn’t switch every week. Also do this yourself, sending film out leads to unpredictable results. This is how: 1. Find a scene with with a good range of tones 2. Using the box speed, meter the darkest area in which you wish to retain shadow detail 3. Move the camera so that you are only photographing this shadow area 4. From the meter's reading close down the aperture by 2 stops or increase the shutter speed by two stops and then expose 6 frames at: the given exposure then +1 stop, +2 stops, -1 stop, -2 stops and -3 stops less than the meter has indicated 5. Process the film 6. Using the frame that was exposed at -3 stops less than the meter indicated (which should be practically clear but will have received lens flair and fogging - i.e a real world maximum black rather than an exposed piece of film that has processing fog)and do a test strip to find out what is the minimum exposure to achieve maximum black - Print must be fully dry before assessing this 7. Do another test strip with the first exposure being what you have selected for achieving maximum black minus your dry-down compensation then plus 1 second, 2 seconds, etc 8. The time that achieves full black inclusive of compensation for dry-down is you minimum exposure to achieve maximum black for all future printing sessions - print must be fully dry before assessing 9 You now know the minimum time to achieve full black inclusive of exposure reduction to accommodate dry-down 10. Using this minimum exposure to achieve maximum black exposure time, expose all of the other test frames. 11. The test print that has good shadow detail indicates which exposure will render good shadow detail and achieve maximum black and provides you with your personal EI for the tested film/developer combination 12 If the negative exposed at the meter reading gives good shadows, your EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 400) 13. If the negative exposed at +1 stop more than the meter reading gives good shadows, your EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) 1/2 the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 200) 14. If the negative exposed at +2 stops more than the meter reading gives good shadows, you EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) 1/4 box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 100) 15. If the negative exposed at -1 stop less than the meter reading gives good shadows, you EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) double the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 800) 16. If the negative exposed at -2 stop less than the meter reading gives good shadows, you EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) 4x the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 1600) You have now fixed your personal EI but there is one more testing stage to go. 1. Find a scene with with a good range of tones 2. Using your EI, meter the brightest area in which you wish to retain highlight detail (but not the sky) 3. Move the camera so that you are only photographing this highlight area 4. From the meter's reading open up the aperture by 3 stops or decrease the shutter speed by three stops 5. Expose the whole roll at this setting 6. In the darkroom, process one third of the film for recommended development time 7. When dry put negative in the enlarger and make a three section test strip exposing for half the minimum black time established earlier, for the established minimum black time and for double the minimum black time. 8. Process print and dry it. 9. If the section of the test strip exposed for 1/2 the minimum black time gives bright highlights with a trace of detail then the film requires 20% more development 10. If the section of the test strip exposed for the minimum black time gives bright highlights with a trace of detail then the film is correctly developed 11. If the section of the test strip exposed for double the minimum black time gives bright highlights with a trace of detail then the film requires 20% less development 12. You can use the rest of the exposed highlight test film to fine tune the development time You run this test on a condenser enlarger with a #2 contrast or a #3 on a diffuser enlarger
Next time you come, be sure to seek out all the top photographer secret spots. There are some treasures to be found off the tourist path. I'll give you a few for free: mt. davidson, GGP windmills, tank hill, marshalls beach
Such beautiful created video! I have been to SF a few times but you let me see the romantic side beautifully! On 7:26 - 7:31 , which building you were capturing from and is drone allowed in the city?

Amongst the city views the portraits really stand out Brae.
Thank you, sir!
Truly enjoyed this. Made me appreciate my City!
Thanks, Frank!
A very aesthetic city indeed! I would have thought it was much frantic and somewhat dirty, but it seems to be a chill place to be.
I'm sure there are parts of that as well, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Great video, Brae. I am a runner. I was just saying something about running up that hill when you said you were going to do it. You rocked it.
Haha thank you!
Your videos keep leveling up, Brae. Thank you both for taking us with you!
Appreciate it 👊🏻
45 seconds in and already blown away by the video quality.
Thank you brother ❤️
Alicia got some burners in this set. Really appreciate the content from you both.
Yes she did!!
Thank you 👊🏻
Those portraits are becoming better by each video you upload Brae. Amazing video!!
Thanks 🤘🏻
Thanks for bringing me many good memories of this special city! You captured it very nicely: Best!
Thanks dude!

28mm on the Nikon? brb going to buy one after seeing those harbor pics haha
40mm Voigtlander!
Can you break down a detailed how to shoot film with that camera? I'm curious how you set the settings for each shot, or is it all auto?
On the Nikon f3?
Amazing video!
Thank you!
I love SF. Many pretty nice shots..what kind of glass did you have on the Nikon?
Had the Voigtlander 40mm f/2!

Thanks! Bmpcc 6k pro!
This is how:
1. Find a scene with with a good range of tones
2. Using the box speed, meter the darkest area in which you wish to retain shadow detail
3. Move the camera so that you are only photographing this shadow area
4. From the meter's reading close down the aperture by 2 stops or increase the shutter speed by two stops and then expose 6 frames at: the given exposure then +1 stop, +2 stops, -1 stop, -2 stops and -3 stops less than the meter has indicated
5. Process the film
6. Using the frame that was exposed at -3 stops less than the meter indicated (which should be practically clear but will have received lens flair and fogging - i.e a real world maximum black rather than an exposed piece of film that has processing fog)and do a test strip to find out what is the minimum exposure to achieve maximum black - Print must be fully dry before assessing this
7. Do another test strip with the first exposure being what you have selected for achieving maximum black minus your dry-down compensation then plus 1 second, 2 seconds, etc
8. The time that achieves full black inclusive of compensation for dry-down is you minimum exposure to achieve maximum black for all future printing sessions - print must be fully dry before assessing
9 You now know the minimum time to achieve full black inclusive of exposure reduction to accommodate dry-down
10. Using this minimum exposure to achieve maximum black exposure time, expose all of the other test frames.
11. The test print that has good shadow detail indicates which exposure will render good shadow detail and achieve maximum black and provides you with your personal EI for the tested film/developer combination
12 If the negative exposed at the meter reading gives good shadows, your EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 400)
13. If the negative exposed at +1 stop more than the meter reading gives good shadows, your EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) 1/2 the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 200)
14. If the negative exposed at +2 stops more than the meter reading gives good shadows, you EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) 1/4 box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 100)
15. If the negative exposed at -1 stop less than the meter reading gives good shadows, you EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) double the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 800)
16. If the negative exposed at -2 stop less than the meter reading gives good shadows, you EI is (when metering shadows where you wish to retain good detail) 4x the box speed (i.e. for 400 film you need to set your meter at 1600)
You have now fixed your personal EI but there is one more testing stage to go.
1. Find a scene with with a good range of tones
2. Using your EI, meter the brightest area in which you wish to retain highlight detail (but not the sky)
3. Move the camera so that you are only photographing this highlight area
4. From the meter's reading open up the aperture by 3 stops or decrease the shutter speed by three stops
5. Expose the whole roll at this setting
6. In the darkroom, process one third of the film for recommended development time
7. When dry put negative in the enlarger and make a three section test strip exposing for half the minimum black time established earlier, for the established minimum black time and for double the minimum black time.
8. Process print and dry it.
9. If the section of the test strip exposed for 1/2 the minimum black time gives bright highlights with a trace of detail then the film requires 20% more development
10. If the section of the test strip exposed for the minimum black time gives bright highlights with a trace of detail then the film is correctly developed
11. If the section of the test strip exposed for double the minimum black time gives bright highlights with a trace of detail then the film requires 20% less development
12. You can use the rest of the exposed highlight test film to fine tune the development time
You run this test on a condenser enlarger with a #2 contrast or a #3 on a diffuser enlarger
How are you enjoying the 40mm f2?
Im torn to get one, i Usually prefer a faster lens up to 1.4 specialy for sunset pics..
But im very tempted
I really like it. Good all-around lens for 35mm! F/2 has been plenty fast for me so far!
Next time you come, be sure to seek out all the top photographer secret spots. There are some treasures to be found off the tourist path. I'll give you a few for free: mt. davidson, GGP windmills, tank hill, marshalls beach
Thanks for the tip!!
Such beautiful created video! I have been to SF a few times but you let me see the romantic side beautifully!
On 7:26 - 7:31 , which building you were capturing from and is drone allowed in the city?
Beautiful video. Any chance I can learn the brand and the model of the mini tripod at 13:02 ?
That’s a neewer Carbon fiber! Although I wouldn’t recommend it. Not the best for heavier cameras
@@BraeHunziker thank you so much
what lens did u use? great vid btw
Thanks! 55mm mostly on the Pentax. 40mm Voigtlander on the Nikon F3
喜欢你的视频,你拍的很好👍
