- I haven't photographed the family property in about three years, so I figured it was time to return with the Pentax 67ii to continue to document the changes occurring out there and the relics that lie on the land.

One wishes, things would simply just keep improving, rendering nostalgia obsolete.
Literally came here to comment this. ❤
It's so true
I was one of a team of Nurses Drs and therapist who got to know your gramps very well. Warms my heart to see Phil working the land, just keep him away from sharp stuff 😂
Well thank you so much for your help. What an ordeal that was. My grandma and grandpa still talk about the outstanding care he received at harborview. We’re lucky it didn’t end up slowing him down 😊
Hey man. Your gf is very wise. When you are you grandfathers age these are the images that will mean the most to you, more than any mountain landscape. It took me a while to realize it but after having kids I realized photography is a gift (not in a narcissistic way) but my peers will have iffy cell phone memories of their kids and I’ll have more professional, detailed and beautiful images to bring back memories. Thank you for sharing!
Couldn't agree more. Thanks for the comment ❤️
we love grandpa hunziker
He’s the best
Thanks for the vid Brae. Made me reflect on my GP and all he did for us. He made ponds so we kids could fish, created creeks so we could catch shrimp and clams, added safety protectors to every sharp corner and edges, and built houses so we all had places to live. That generation was definitely built differently. Greatly appreciate this video cause it made me realize I should do the same to the home he left behind. 🙏
They were definitely built different… Sounds like an incredible man. Fortunate we had people like that to influence us as children. Thanks for watching the vid 🙏🏻
This video is brought to you by Guinness. ( someday that will happen)
Per usual, I loved it. I look back to my childhood and grandmas land that is now not in the family. Wish it was though. Loved that everyone was so into it, working together and you capture it beautifully.
Haha wouldn’t that be something…
And thank you so much dude 🙏🏻
I love your grandpa’s hands. Those are the hands of my family. I can feel the handshake. The rough course skin and the vice like grip. It’s a firm grip hand shake, not to prove a thing, that’s just the way it’s done with his peers.
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I plan to photograph his hands at some point. Thanks for watching the video, Greg.
Holy cow your home is beautiful
Beautiful video and exploration dude. I had no clue the landscape was that rich around your hometown, the trees coated in moss are just picturesque. Keep it up, you're an inspiration.
Great impressions from your trip. I also feel very nostalgic when I go back to my hometown and always create some new photos. As you said, even though I made the same photos several times, the environment is always changing at least slightly.
Thanks! Yep, need to remind myself of that sometimes...
This is a property of dreams, what a beauty, can’t believe how many great photo moments it holds.
Thank you so much ❤️
the fly fishing photos were so good dude, incredible light and texture from the water
Thank you!
Love this! Stunning shots, love how reflective this was. Very special moments ❤
Thank you!
Some great images there Brae! Thanks for sharing some of your family's stories with us :)
Thank you for watching :)
This one is beautiful! Your documentary film productions stand out to me as some of the best work I've seen. Wonderful photography, too. Oh my, that first photo of the man fly fishing in the fog is fantastic and it's all a great ride from there. Incredible place to grow up. I can see why you love Washington outdoors, and why you're still living there. Cheers!
Thanks Bob. Those foggy conditions were super cool. As I get older, I can definitely see how that property made an impact on me and influenced my love for the outdoors. Feeling fortunate. Cheers!
Great video. So much of what you were saying resonated with my own relationship to ‘home’. I’ve taken so many photos of exactly the same things and the same views, and sometimes feel like I’ve ‘wasted’ the shot on a repeat. But then when I get the scans back every time I realise no they weren’t a waste. Every shot captures just a little tiny bit more of the amazing time I had growing up. I only realised how great it was when I moved away and now it has taken on a whole new level of sentimentality.
Really well said. I have very similar feelings. Thanks for sharing and checking out the video ❤️
perfect way to end my night, all these portraits rock brother
Thanks so much dude 🙏🏻
I’m a sucker for documentary projects! Great job dude!
They're very fulfilling for sure!
2:20 - thats a solid photo stance
Haha I always find the power stances
Nice. Just Nice. I'm 71 and as time goes on you do tend to spend more time looking back.
Indeed you do
I grew up in the middle of nowhere, and teenage me was desperate to get out of the sticks. 40 (something) me would give my right arm to still live out there. Beautiful part of the world you grew up… glad you appreciate going home. Wonderful images as always. 👌
Thank you very much! I obviously have similar feelings now as well. Was very fortunate.
That fly fishing image at 1:32 is simply incredible
Thank you! Conditions were just right for that
This was just stunning, man. Incredible work.
Thank you dude!
Context makes things beautiful ❤ I felt your mom’s presence through this video. Lovely photos and i really felt emotional and connected to your family and this beautiful place you all have!
Thanks so much ❤️
A trip down memory lane is good for the soul.
100%
Absolutely brilliant photos. But the stories were the best part. People always ask me why I take so many photos. My answer is always the same - "so I don´t forget". They say you can't go home again. I disagrree. You can, it´s just never the same as it was. Really enjoyed this one.
Well said. That’s the beauty of photography!
No better way to start a Saturday evening than watching Brae's new video with a Guinness in my hand. Another superb video! 👏
I love it haha. Cheers!!
One of your best videos ever.
Thank you dude 🙏🏼
This is so special, Brae! I hope you save it for generations to come ♥️
Absolutely. Such a special place ❤️
So many cars to save... and great shoots, of course.
Yes there's a lot haha. And thank you!
This is awesome, Brae. Haven't been out to the property in about 4 years. Good to see it again. Great photos

Thank you 🙏🏻
So wonderful! Great images Brae!
Thank you!
Great stuff!! Would love to see some black and white photos of your grandfathers' hands.
That’s funny you mention that. That’s one of the things I’ve been wanting to photograph for a long time. Definitely will soon.
Ohhh, lovely. Family stuff are allways nice to returnera to. ❤ Nice music at 14:00 by the way. Peace mate.
Thank you! Cheers!
As I look out my window with a view of the Purdy Bridge and Henderson Bay; and then to see some great photography of this very place on the big screen! What is unique to this documentary is the ability to add old family video to have the then and now reality.
Brea, open invitation to a pint at Local Boys when you're out this way again.
Love it. And let’s absolutely do it! Can you send me an email with your phone number and I’ll shoot you a text when I get out there again? braehunz2@gmail.com
Cracking video, love the documentary style... plus, it's always nice making photo's of family members too
It definitely is! Thanks for watching!
I have always enjoyed your videos Brae, they bring so much inspiration to me. Keep up your good work man.
Ah thank you so much dude. Greatly appreciate it! Cheers.
great shot. emotional photography. I love Kodak Portra 400 film. cann't describe the difference from film with digital with language. just like film much more.
It’s got a different look and feel for sure. Hard to replicate entirely!
Has to be the best video you made and i don't just mean the technical artistic stuff. Just so nice to get to know you better dude. Thanks for making this.
Thanks so much ❤️
Great video man :) beautiful place. Can tell your family property is really special. Nature in Washington is incredible
It’s hard to beat! Thanks for watching :)
Damn this was a good one. So many different emotions while watching.
It feels like you're building up such an impactful body of work - truly inspiring stuff, Brae.

Really touching video dude
Thank you!
Really enjoyed this one man, from the beautiful shots, family stories and the beauty of the woods; reminds me of why i picked up film, thank you!! That fishing shot 😩😍
Thank you! Appreciate the comment 🙏🏻
Awesome video! You think might make a video in Vancouver?!
Would definitely like to explore up there at some point! I’ve driven through there many time on the way to Whistler but never shot there.
Dude 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
🙏🏻❤️ hope all is well sir!
@BraeHunziker you too brother. Keep doing you. 🙏🏻
Since your granddad is in one of your videos. I've always wondered - does your family have roots in Switzerland? Huniker is a common name here in Switerland. Most of the Hunzikers come from the canton of Grau Bünden
Yep, Swiss origin!
Loved the video bro! May I ask what pack you’re using??
Thanks! It's a Shimoda Design Action X v2
Touching video, makes me think I should take photos when I head home also. Also love how your photos turned out, flat and even, yet punchy with the colors. Quite prefect looking images in my eyes. I recently acquired the same camera. Curious, are you using aperture priority, matrix metering and box speed for the Portra 400? Or a different combination? I guess your also self scanning these?
Thanks so much! Yep those are the exact settings I use. I’ve found the aperture priority and matrix metering combo to be super reliable. Sometimes I rate Portra at 320 or 250, but most of the time just at box speed.
@@BraeHunziker Thanks alot for the reply! Keep shooting ay! 💪
Subject change, what shoes are those and where do I buy them?
Vans MTE 3 !
Idk why but I am gettings flashbacks where your bronica GS-1 broke down
Hahah I was thinking about that while I was out there
@@BraeHunziker XD
Never ever sell the property! Keep it in the family, it's gold and harder and harder to come by.
Footage looks 3d sheesh nice
Bmpcc 6k has a nice depth to it for sure
Did your grandpa have any influence on your creative passions, specifically film photography?
My great grandfather (this grandfather’s dad) was massively into photography. Not in a professional sense, but he always had a camera with him. He has thousands and thousands of negatives piled up in his house from all sorts of different adventures he had through his adult life. A lot of super 8 video as well. And then my dad was a photography teacher for many years. Both have had an impact on my interest in photography for sure!
