Urchin Diving for Seaside Snack of Uni Guacamole

  • Today we go out diving again with Matts (Fisherman's Life) in Mendocino. We look to spear fish, but end up with some sea urchins and a delicious snack.
    Sea Urchin (Uni) Guacamole
    Ingredients: 15 sea urchin gonads (uni), 2 Avocados, 1/2 red onion, 1 roma tomato, 1 lime, cilantro, salt, pepper
    1. Dice avocados, red onion, tomato into cubes and add into mixing bowl
    2. Chop cilantro and add to mix
    3. Cut lime in half, and squeeze into mix.
    4. Carefully mix in half of the uni, and reserve the other half for garnish.
    5. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
    6. Garnish with remaining uni

    To remove dye stains, try mixing baking soda and toothpaste together and lathering it on your hands like how you would soap. The baking soda is sort of like an abrasive scrub. Or you can always buy those type of soaps with tiny rocks in it, the ones they use at auto repair shops to scrub off paint and other chemical stains.

    Great video. As for the purple stains, purple fingers never really bothered me, but you could probably just where ur dive gloves.

    Everything you guys make looks delicious. You guys should try a new challenge and try to make sand fleas taste good. Maybe try to beat outdoor chef life's sand flea dish?

      Keng Vang thanks! We were considering it but read up on how they’re pretty full of plastic and probably will pass on it. Appreciate the suggestion though!

    I could be wrong on this, but I think the purple urchins are the ones destroying the kelp, not so much the red ones.

    Looks good. Maybe try to smash the avocado in a bowl. Add salt and lime as well.

      JT 6188 we had both but we were in a rush unfortunately. To each their own though, we usually don’t like too much heat

    how often do you guys eat seafood? you guys ever get your blood tested for methylmercury? do you worry about it?

      shet4breinz maybe like once a week at most, really not that much. We don’t usually eat the higher food chain fish that would contain more mercury so really not that worried about it. There’s so many things to worry about we just try to eat everything in moderation
