Like you said, it's a better deal to buy Fiesta. I have used both and the results are the same. Also like you said, if you have persisitent dandelions after you spary the entire lawn, spot spray them, don't fog the lawn again. I use a pump sprayer because I like to be more exact with the control of water and what goes where. Three years in with Weed B Gon/Fiesta and it looks as if I have no dandelions, but there are a few to the point where pulling the isn't a big deal. So long as you keep mowing the heads off, they won't spread. For those wondering, since this is a weed control product and not a weed killer, you need to finish off the weeds by crowding them out with grass. My lawn is the envy of the neighbourhood. People stopped walking their dogs on it even.
Thank you so much, Jeff! I have two questions: 1. How long should I wait to level and overseed my lawn after using this? 2. What if the use the product today and it rains a day after? How long should it not rain for the product to be effective? Thanks again for your time and effort! Much appreciated!
I have levelled and overseeded the day after use. The product is rain fast after 3 hours, though I like to make sure that I have at a day before water.
@@JeffSeetonLawnCare I have seen other videos where they mention that we have to wait 2 to 4 weeks. Would seeding immediately slow down the germination process?
@@lifeisbeautiful-rk7jj The active ingredient Weed b Gon Max (from the video) is iron. The seed will not be affected by the iron. There is also a Weed B Gon (not the Max)that it's active ingredient is Dimethylamine Salt of 2,4-D Acid. You would wait 3 to 4 weeks after using it to apply seed.
Thanks, Jeff! Once I combine the baby shampoo and Weed B Gon Max, should I attach it to the water hose and spray it together with water? Wouldn't adding water dilute the solution?
It doesn't. The mixing happens in top part of the sprayer, where the dial is. To demonstrate this you can fill your bucket with water and food colouring, connect your hose and then spray. You will notice that the bucket empties and the colour of the water does not change.
Hi Jeff! I found Scott's Weed B Gon Max Ready to Spray bottle at the store. Does it work the same way this liquid concentrate does, i.e., can I level and overseed a day after applying it? What are the differences between these two apart from the fact that the liquid concentrate doesn't have surfactant?
The difference is the you can control the mixture rate with the concentrated version and include a surfactant. My experience would lead to only buy the concentrated variety.
Last time I b used a Scotts product , it pretty much destroyed my lawn. And yes directions were followed. I would like to try this...but just have doubts.
Hey Jeff , I’m about to do it on my lawn right now , but do I have to wait for a straight few days of sun or I can do it even if it’s will be raining tmr ? And after you applied the bgon , do you have to pull the dead weed out ? If you not how can you deal with the dead weed ? Thank you ! Because lately my lawn having a lot of bee and flys , thinkjng what happens with that also
I watch the weather and will trend to do a lawn reno just before a period where it will have light rain. I do this because I might not have to run the sprinkler as much. If there is going to be heavy rain predicted in the next 14 days I will hold off because I don’t want my seeds to wash away. Weed b gon can be applied the day before dropping your seeds and the dead weeds do not need to be pulled after.
Hi there from Ottawa! Great review! We have lots of dandelions and clover in the back yard. Thinking I’ll try this concentrate. Can you advise how much Dawn soap to use as a surfactant? Is baby shampoo better? Thanks so much :)
I use 1 oz (30ml) of baby shampoo to 1 gallon (3.7 litres) in a spayer. You can use dawn but make sure that it is the free and clear variety, the other and have a negative effect on good microorganisms living in your soil.
I'm was thinking of using the same solution as you did. Which season can I apply with this solution to my lawn? And is it better to apply it early morning or in the evening?
It can be applied during any season that you have activity weed growth, so long as the temperature is not going to exceed 30 degrees C, 86 F. I personally tend to apply the product in the morning on a day that it expected to be sunny. Also, make sure that your lawn is well watered and the blades of grass and weeds have dried before applying.
Great video jeff. Two questions - how long should i wait to apply a 2nd application if the first isnt enough? In addition to that, how long should i wait to fertilize after applying? Thank again
I will normally do a spot treatment 2 weeks after my first application. Though you can fertilize the day after applying an iron weed killer, I usually wait a week.
@@mememememe747 The mix rate can be different depending what you are treating. The recommended mixture from the manufacturer is is 125ml of weed b gon max to 1 litre of water; that is 4.23 oz to 1/4 gallon of water. I generally go off label and increase the rate of the weed b gon, depending on what it is am treating. Also, I will add a teaspoon of dawn or baby shampoo depending on what I am treating. The soap allows the mixture to lay flat on weeds like clover rather than simply bead up of run off. Let me know if I have answered your question.
That depends on what you are dealing with. I have used it successfully to kill purple deadnettle and henbit. It told two applications separated by a couple of weeks though.
It is definitely expensive. I can work if you go off label. That is, using it at a higher concentration, adding a surfactant and frequent applications.

The thing with it is that your lawn should be well irrigated before use. If it is not then there is a chance that it can damage your lawn.

Yes it does have a higher concentration.

I can tell because the weeds tend to not grow back. Sometimes a second application is required though.

How much Baby Shampoo did you add to the full container?
I added 2oz, 60ml.

I use about a teaspoon per litre/quarter gallon.
On a previous reply you said 2oz/60ml...which if I am identifying your bottle correctly (1L) is 2 tablespoons per liter....help?
