I daily drive a 2002 GC with the 4.0L and 207,000 miles. Bought it a from the original owner in 2014. It’s a 100% Florida car that was garage kept until I bought it and has never seen snow or ice. Have I had problems? Yes. Just minor issues like a water pump, idler pulley, and starter. All these problems gave me a warning and I was able to repair them without breaking down. The Jeep has only left Florida once in its life, last year to Savannah, GA. I’m planning to drive it to Abilene, TX in March.

Aside from routine maintenance, I've had the starter replaced, TP sensor replaced, and a new front drive shaft put on. I drive it every day and will continue to until she finally gives in.
I remember my first week owning it I was pumping gas and a complete stranger walks up to me, he must have been in his 70s. Asked me "Is that one of those jeeps with that 4.0?" I was like yes sir I just bought it. He said hold on to it, they don't make em like that anymore lol

My dad used to have a 2002 Grand Cherokee Limited V8 when I was 10 years old, and it was a brilliant car. Yes, the V8 meant it was a TREMENDOUS gas hog, but it had some of the most comfortable seats of ANY car I had ever sat in.
I remember when we went to pick it up back in July 2010, and from the moment I sat down on the seats for the first time, I was in heaven as they were just oh so comfy... The Americans really know how to make proper car seats!
We even went on a caravan holiday in it to Great Yarmouth in August 2010, and I remember watching one of my Top Gear DVDs on the way there on the aftermarket DVD headrests we had installed in it. The V8 also had plenty of power for towing our caravan on the 127-mile journey to the campsite.

Both had just under 100k when I bought them, the wrecked one had 178k when it was totaled, and I put 215k total miles on the next one and sold it to someone else and it was running fine. When I came home from the army, my wife & I both drove our cars home. She had a little 86 Chevy citation, or something like that, took around 11 gallons to fill up & the Jeep took 20.4 gallons & I had to stop twice as much as she did.

But yes they did get 10mpg or so. I have a 89 Grand Wagoneer same 360 his cherokee fsj had. And i have to refill every 3 days. I get 11mpg in mine actually by measuring the miles driven and fill up. But 9-12 mpg is about normal for them.

The 99-04 wj is daily worthy just take basic care of them youll get over 300k on either engine choice. The weak link is the trans. Great 4x4 capability and solid axles front and rear. Im sitting at 214k in my 96 grand cherokee with the 4.0 I6 and 225k on my 5.2L v8

I can attest to this lol. I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 260,000 miles. I barely have to do maintenance except oil changes. Its had its issues but it's just wear components like dry rotted radiator hoses and some broken sensors. Easy fixes. You're damn right about it being a gas hog lol. 12.1mpg city but I love the vehicle.

Hey Scotty! I have an 05 Saturn Vue 4 cylinder with 195000 miles on it. I live up north and when it gets cold outside, below 20 degrees the engine fan stays on all the time and does not shut off. It only does this when it is cold out, runs fine the rest of the year. I have tried the coolant sensor and the relay with no luck. what else can it be? Winter is coming and my winter beater takes forever to get heat in the cabin because the fan is on all the time. Thanks.

Had a Cherokee classic that I bought new and it went 396,000 before the #1 cylinder wore out, then bought a used Jeep Grand Cherokee 2004, 4 years ago with 130k on it-now at 190 and purring like a kitten. BTW, cost 4,600 4 years ago-4WD! Love those older Jeeps!1999

The 300 cubic inch Ford straight six was a far better motor than the Jeep inline six. I've owned both, how about you - or did you just feel the need to use the cliche "hold my beer" line?

Buckhorn Cortez I've had both! In my opinion the inline six was the better! Burned more gas but... Indestructible!

@@buckhorncortez I've had family members with both, of which I used. The Ford was in a work van and a bulletproof, indestructible workhorse that went to over 320K before it was sold with nothing wrong. The Jeep was in a Cherokee that I can't remember how long it went but it was comparable, and it had much more power which I appreciated a great deal. The Ford was economical but lacked power, the Jeep had amazing power but not as economical. It's a toss up really, and the reason I made the joke.

@@buckhorncortez Yes, 7-bolt mains in the Ford 300/4.9L - The only way to destroy those engines is to leave the oil too low or way too dirty for too long. The 4.0 Jeep engines are excellent, as well. If I were going to buy a Jeep, it would be an old one with the 4.0 6-cyl or the old 4-cyl from the CJ period.

Ey Scotty, My 2001 Mitsubishi went 370,000 Miles. Only thing I ever replaced was the alternator, radiator, brakes, rotors, coil packs, spark plugs, etc. the typical maintenance. Id recommend to anyone looking into a Montero, that they check the rear frame just behind the rear wheels. Wouldn't be surprised if the frame wasnt even there. Seen it many times. Love your vids. Thanks for the entertainment
