@markd514 I actually do show how the grip fits my hand in the video. My reviews deal solely with the gun. I do not feel the need to run around in camos and roll arpund shooting on video. My military days are over. I do not feel any need to pretend to be some commando on youtube. That just isn't my style. If you want to see how Rambo would handle a gun there are plenty of videos out there. If you want to see what a regular shooter feels about a firearm with no flash my vids might be acceptable.
I have a Kahr MK9 that I've had for years and years. It is tough as a rock and is ultra high quality. I have won a lot of bets on our LEO range by out shooting officers with their full size duty pistols. The MK9 is a top shelf concealed carry gun that you will never be able to wear out due to it's all steel construction. I will NEVER sell mine. I love Kahr's so much that when my wife wanted a CCW pistol, I got her a PM9 for carry. She loves it! Happy wife, happy life! Yall be safe.
This gun is surprisingly accurate for being so small I really like it this is actually my carry piece. I really don't mind the weight because it buffers The Recoil a little bit. I took off the factory sights and installed Truglo night sights trinium Pro. Other than that the guy looks beautiful.. I also polished it a little bit to give it a little shine. The next thing in my project I'm installing G10 grips for my mk40. Thank you for your review it is right on the spot
Atlast a much awaited review of the Kahr MK40 in You Tube, and a really informative one I must say. Good job! Waiting to watch one of Kahr K40. Thanks brother.
My MK9 has been my off duty carry gun since they came out many years ago. I have no plans on getting rid of mine. TOTAL confidence in my MK. Others have come and gone but my MK will always be on my side when I'm not carrying my Glock on duty. Kahr MK's are definately under appreciated. it's a shame more people don't realize what they are missing out on. Highly recommended! Get ya one!
I've got the MK9 and love it. It is my summer carry gun when wearing shorts and t-shirt. 100% reliable, very concealable. I even took it to a point shooting class and had ZERO malfunctions for the day and scored better than guys with GLOCKs, 1911s and XD's. Kahr makes a great pistol
Sadly, Kahr has discontinued all 40 S&W caliber guns in 2022. This particular MK40 is high on my list of must-have guns making a used one my only option. I prefer finding one locally at any of my LGS's but will likely have to go the on-line route instead. Shipping and transfer fees can add $100 to the sale price, that is a major issue with me. I stumbled across a Kahr PM9 at a LGS and after acquiring it and shooting it at my range, I quickly became a Kahr fan boy. I now have the CW45 and K9 Elite '98 in addition to the PM9. Update #1: I have since added a MK9 to the Kahr collection. The search for an MK40 continues. As described in this video, the MK9's fit and finish is absolutely superb not to mention its shootability. My Kahr's have become my go-to EDCs. Update #2: I have since acquired a K40 Covert. This is the model with the long slide (6") and short grip like the MK40/9 models. The Covert models are unique and not a 6" slide on a MK model small frame, that is, you cannot put this slide on a MK frame. As expected, it's a terrific shooter and carry piece. I have it stuffed with Hornady 165FTX Critical Defense rounds, 6+1. (I consider the 40S&W cartridge with a 180 or 200 grain bullet as a "45ACP magnum".)
Probably the best video on this gun on RUclips. I prefer the academic approach to the cowboy style videos you see here. My only complaint is that you're making me regret passing over a used MK40 Elite in favor of the PM40 I ended up buying. Or maybe not...the extra steel really adds some weight.
I've owned this gun for around 10 years (maybe 8, can't remember exactly). My thoughts on your topics: 1) Build Quality: I agree, excellent. It is VERY well made. All steel, looks and feels solid. No corners cut at all. 2) Handling/Feel: It is very heavy but also very well balanced. It fits the hand well for what it is, a super compact .40. I agree, the extended mag is hideous and weird. I don't use it either. The trigger is THE BEST I'VE EVER SHOT. It is so smooooth and buttery. Dare I say luxurious. Anyway, the trigger is awesome in every way. 3) Accuracy/Reliability: 100% reliable for me. It also seems more than accurate. 4) Flaws: When you shoot this gun it feels like your hand is going to explode. For whatever reason it does a horrible job at absorbing any recoil/kick. You feel ALL of it. That combined with the small two finger grip means that I rarely choose this gun as my EDC. I just can't be accurate (the gun is accurate but I'm not accurate with the gun if that makes sense) with a gun that hurts to shoot and is borderline violent with how it kicks. I wish I could shoot it better and it was just a tad more comfortable because I think this gun is awesome. Another flaw is capacity. At 5 +1 it doesn't hold much. I also would have liked to see them make an extended mag that followed the curve of the handle so it looked half way decent. Yes you would be giving up concealment but sometimes that works depending on what you are wearing and it would be nice to have the option. It's also a bit too heavy. Generally, I really like this gun. I've kept it all these years because I always tell myself that I'm going to take it to the range more often and get over the kick so I can be confident and accurate with it.
Thanks for the review I own a MK40 also. It is So WELL BUILT! I put the pearce extended grip piece on my 5 round mag, also running TRU DOT night sights. Feels good and looks good. Thumbs up on the wood grips I think i will order those.
A really nice review for this great little gun. I've got a question for you, is the size of the MK40 Elite the same as the PM40? I do have the KAHR PM9, P380 & the PM40 but I love the looks of the MK40 and the all steel build. And again, a very well put together video even though its a few years old, but none the less very informative and spot-on.
@Tadpoleriver I usualy just use something simple like a Galco Sto-N-Go IWB holster. I am wearing the MK4 in one right now. I also carry a PM40 in the same holster.
I really like my K40 Covert, which is like your MK40 but with a longer barrel. Or, my pistol like a standard K40 with a shorter grip. Either way, it is a good friend.
I finally ordered an MK9 yesterday from q local shop. I live in Mass hoping it comes next weekend. Plan on adding those wood grips as well. Ended up paying pretty close to a g for it.
I own the Elite '03 and love it for EDC. The grip screws need thread lock on them because they come loose with use. If the grip screws get loose, that allows the trigger bar to be scored by the slide action. I have honed my slide to round off the corner that would score the trigger bar in addition to the thread locker. If Hogue made grips for this gun, I'd own them. That's the only problem I have: The frame contacts my thumb knuckle and makes me bleed!
I really enjoyed this video. Straight and to the point. Not to long, no flashy showmanship or cheezy 5 minute intro. Why have you changed over the years?
@frodo70444 I have a K40 and it is a very nice gun. I keep considering selling it though because it is a bit big for a low capacity gun. It shoots extremely well though.
I used to have an MK9 I bought used. Something about that gun was just not right. I could just my Kahr CM9 fairly well, but by comparison I was an expert marksman to what I could do with the MK9. Neither I nor a friend who is a good shooter could shoot the MK9 very well at all, it was miserable. I don't know if the previous owner messed with it or what. I sold that MK9, I might buy one new someday, as my CM9 was bought new and it inspires confidence.
I have this same gun and I love it. Its heavy but I like the weight ... Reduces the recoil for a bigger round than a 9MM. I do wish they made rubber grips though.
When I move back to the states u might have to get one of those along with a smith and wesson 686. I gave my old one to a friend when I moved to the uk a few years ago but I'm coming back soon:)
Yankee I also have a MK elite 03 chambered in .40 , it is a very nice quality build I can not justify the $800 price but I bought it anyway what really sold me on it was a full steel frame, handles the recoil much better chambered in .40 and very very concealability. I also had a Kahr pm had lot of issues with ftf so I sold it did not feel could trust my life with it. I do like the MK 40 but I do carry my shield or glock more .
Blake I know the Kahr tolerances is tight like I said the kahr is a very quality gun my pm had issues but my mk zero issues someone said Kahr magazines was an issue on my pm don't know for sure but I did not feel comfortable with the pm
Blake are you sure that is a new price if it is new that is a FANTASTIC price on a new MK, for pocket carry being a heavy gun think it would be difficult since it is a all steel frame I never pocket carried mine.
I wonder if pistols that shoot the 40 have picked up in sales recently. That ammo seems the most available. People wanting to shoot may buy a 40 because of ammo availability.
Hi, when you replaced the grips, is the frame solid(no cut-outs), which would allow the use of the stick-on grippe type tape grip enhancers? Thinner is better in my case and eliminating the plastic/wood grips would be helpful...
Every steel can and will rust. Unprotected polished carbon steel will display red fingerprints days after you've touched it with a naked hand. Stainless steels are more resistant than that (and some more than others), but when exposed to suitable conditions, any steel will rust eventually.
that gun is awesome i think when i get some money saved up i would opt for the k40 though..the other magazine is to ugly for youtube huh? i prefer flush fitting mags anyway good video
Bought a k9, on round 21, the slide exfdactor blew out of the side, injuring my right hand shooting new pmc bronze, 5 weeks for warranty repair. Dealer wouldnt take it as a rrturn, took to gum show asking 300 for it , couldnt sell it, dealers said that had several they couldnt sell, Dangerous and unreliable gun, poor customer service
@TheYankeeMarshal if i had money i would buy it i wouldn't mind a mk9 but i have never shot a 40 in any caliber and i would not want to get in over my head with the mk40 if i had them both i would think of the k40 as a normal carry and the mk9 as a running to the store throw it in my pocket gunwieght dont bother me to much kinda keeps me aware that i have a gun beside si would hate for my last words to be damn kel-tec
Anyone know if the MK40 recoil is much more significant than the MK9? I would like the MK9 but lack of availability is a problem. However, MK40's can be had and I suspect because of the recoil. Any thoughts?
No need to safety check on a video. You couldn't possibly hurt the viewer with a loaded gun anyway. Most people watching know how to check to see if a gun is unloaded and trust you did the same thing yourself beforehand. If you did fail to safety check and you shot yourself in the process of making this video we wouldn't be seeing this post in the first place. Otherwise, thumbs up! Good review.
I really like these older YM review videos I think they're great!

@nebamartinez I do not have a part number, but they are easy to find on the Kahr site. To buff out minor scratches use synthetic steel wool pads.
Get ya one!
@knarfster Much more manageable due to the added weight and larger grip.

(I consider the 40S&W cartridge with a 180 or 200 grain bullet as a "45ACP magnum".)
I have four Kahr Arms firearms and I love them! Accurate, reliable and they are easy to shoot and re-acquire the target. CM9, CT380, CW380 and CT45.
Probably the best video on this gun on RUclips. I prefer the academic approach to the cowboy style videos you see here. My only complaint is that you're making me regret passing over a used MK40 Elite in favor of the PM40 I ended up buying. Or maybe not...the extra steel really adds some weight.
@austinguy23 I do not think so. I wish they would make a .357sig barrel for it.
Well yea... but is it SOLID?
I have an MK9 and a K9 and I agree that Kahrs are excellent guns.
I've owned this gun for around 10 years (maybe 8, can't remember exactly). My thoughts on your topics: 1) Build Quality: I agree, excellent. It is VERY well made. All steel, looks and feels solid. Great review. I wish more folks doing reviews were this thorough. Looking forward to checking one out.
A really nice review for this great little gun. I've got a question for you, is the size of the MK40 Elite the same as the PM40? GunsHarleysUSA It is similar in principle, but completely different because of the thicker, heavier metal frame.
TheYankeeMarshal I believe only the steel frame models are +p rated but I could be wrong.
@Justin20467 Glad it worked out for you. Having to do a little fitting work seems to be common on a lot of wooden grips.
@Tadpoleriver I usualy just use something simple like a Galco Sto-N-Go IWB holster. I am wearing the MK4 in one right now. I also carry a PM40 in the same holster.
awesome review! I absolutely love my MK9 and will have it for life.

This gun is on my list. Probably go for the 9mm though. Want the K9 & MK9 combo.
I found out CT offers an actual laser grip for this model. That 9mm is on my long term shopping list. :-)
A SOLID Review. I'm going to look for one in 9mm.
I really enjoyed this video. Straight and to the point. Not to long, no flashy showmanship or cheezy 5 minute intro. Why have you changed over the years?
: INSERT WEIRDLY SEXUAL SUBTITLES :
Great review
Yes, I really like it. Sadly it has been made pretty unneeded with the modern small guns though.
@frodo70444 I have a K40 and it is a very nice gun. I keep considering selling it though because it is a bit big for a low capacity gun. It shoots extremely well though.
Thanks YM. I now want one!
Surprisingly light...
Great video! I've wanted an MK40 for quite a while now.
More people are choosing to carry concealed. Great review. See you on GT
Are you still liking your MK40? I'm curious how it would shoot and carry compared to my PM40.
I used to have an MK9 I bought used. Something about that gun was just not right. I could just my Kahr CM9 fairly well, but by comparison I was an expert marksman to what I could do with the MK9. if glock and a stainless revolver had a baby, it'd be the MK
I have this same gun and I love it. Its heavy but I like the weight ... Reduces the recoil for a bigger round than a 9MM. I do wish they made rubber grips though.
Great video! the MK40 is my favorite also, extremely underrated...
Very nice review. (as per usual)
@Justin20467 I did order mine from Kahr. Sounds like you got a bad set. Luckily their customer service is usually pretty quuick.
When I move back to the states u might have to get one of those along with a smith and wesson 686. I gave my old one to a friend when I moved to the uk a few years ago but I'm coming back soon:)
I kind of wish I had gone with the 9mm.
How would you say the kick on your MK40 compares to your PM40?
How wide is the grip with the wooden grips? I'm looking at the K40Elite though, same original width. Leather or Kydex?
love my two moonies!!!
I bet more .40 guns have been selling for that reason.
Yankee I also have a MK elite 03 chambered in .40 , it is a very nice quality build I can not justify the $800 price but I bought it anyway what really sold me on it was a full steel frame, handles the recoil much better chambered in .40 and very very concealability. Very nice pistol, and very good review.
Keep up the quality videos!
nWo.
Hey bro how is the recoil a scale 1-10. And do you have a problem when you shoot the whole clip real fast at one time
Good review. I don't particularly like the polymer guns khar makes. Thanks for the great review
I just got the wife a CW40 for valentine's day and I got to say I think i have a man crush on it.
Yes
Great review and video!
I was reading reviews about rust problems. When you racked the slide I thought I saw a bit of rust
I wonder if pistols that shoot the 40 have picked up in sales recently. That ammo seems the most available. People wanting to shoot may buy a 40 because of ammo availability.

pm9 or mk9 for ccw?
No mention of caliber or capacity
Its sort of weird you keep Silver bullets around as based on your arm hair they'd be the only thing that could injure you.
that is a beautiful gun.
I think ill go to the local gunshop and check one out
Every steel can and will rust. Unprotected polished carbon steel will display red fingerprints days after you've touched it with a naked hand. Stainless steels are more resistant than that (and some more than others), but when exposed to suitable conditions, any steel will rust eventually.
Ok. My gun says K40 covert same size as yours but is not the mk40.
But look the same.
hows the difference in recoil from the MK40 to PM40? I would probably get 9mm though
Gotta watch out, every time you look away a gun tries to load itself.
So the MK40 has a little bit bigger grip than PM40?
What is your choice of holster for concealed carry.
nice video....
Nice, but I would probably go with 9 or 45.
that gun is awesome i think when i get some money saved up i would opt for the k40 though..the other magazine is to ugly for youtube huh? i prefer flush fitting mags anyway good video
Nope, no rust on this one.

How is the recoil with the mk40?
Reach arounds are never safe...
Does it have a magazine disconnect?
Nope
Anyone know if the MK40 recoil is much more significant than the MK9? I would like the MK9 but lack of availability is a problem. However, MK40's can be had and I suspect because of the recoil. Any thoughts?
+John Faggello it is...
Thank you sir! Great videos.
Oh so someone with small hands the PM40 might fit better
No need to safety check on a video.
You couldn't possibly hurt the viewer with a loaded gun anyway. Most people watching know how to check to see if a gun is unloaded and trust you did the same thing yourself beforehand. If you did fail to safety check and you shot yourself in the process of making this video we wouldn't be seeing this post in the first place.
Otherwise, thumbs up! Good review.
Google who the owner of Kahr Arms is and you'll probably never want to have anything to do with them.
Don't care. It's a great gun.
Nice report not the BS he puts out now! I guess he thinks he's a comedian now
Great review
