  • Aadi Shankara needs no introduction - a philosopher par excellence, he travelled all over India to help restore the study of the Vedas. His ingenuity, logic and knowledge of the Vedanta tradition of Sanatana Dharma made Advaita the most important tradition for millennia to come. This talk presents an overview of the life and works of the great Guru.
About the Speaker: Dr. Sucheta Paranjpe is a retired Professor of Sanskrit, an associate Faculty at Leipzig University, Germany and visiting Faculty at Macalester College, St. Paul. She continues to be a passionate student of Vedic studies, particularly the Mahabharat.

Despite being a Vedic Scholar, Her views about Tantra is limited to Panchmakara and full of prejudices. Tantra is hudge ocean. Awakening Kundalini is also Tantra Practice. Adi Shankaracharya indeed was against Vamachara in the name of spirituality. But he was proponent of Shri Vidya too., which is दक्षिणमार्गी (Samayamargi ) Tantra. In every peeth, You would see Shree Yantra with Chandramoulishwar ShivLinga. In Jyotirmath, You would see idols of 64 yoginis.
'Soundarya Lahari' is regarded as Tantric Text and has great importance in Shri Vidya upasana.

The meanings of atheism in the Indian context are different. One meaning is If you don't believe in Vedic philosophy you are an atheist.
