Wonderful discourse on Rigveda. Apart from the reference to the Aryan Migration Theory which has been debunked, I found the lecture worth watching a second time since there's so much new information for me. I knew Rigveda is the very foundation of Sanatan Dharma but to actually get to know what it contains is an experience in itself.

I have tried to go through this lecture, but the continuous reference to Aryans, Indra as a golden haired European, Indians as aborigines, even talking about arctic home of the Aryans, this seems pretty directed. Looks like an opportunity to provide proofs for Aryan Migration theory.

    • @rohanbidi
      @rohanbidi 3 года назад +8

@@kevin238in I can understand why that might appear to be so. Initially I too believed in the Aryan Invasion/Migration Theory until I came across research which highlighted all the flaws in it. So when I heard Dr Paranjape speak of the Aryans in the way she did, I assumed she is in the same position as I was a few years ago and perhaps isn't acquainted with recent research which is unfortunate. However, I enjoyed this video and also the rest in this series due to her elucidation on the various fascinating suktas, mandalas and Upanishads. Would recommend to all those interested on this subject.

If they were so good in literature did they claim in their literature that they are/were nomadic tribes? There are many mentions to river Parusni, Sutudri, Sarasvati, Yamuna but one mention to river near Kabul makes them Central Asians amazing logic?! If Migration really happened why these people chose to praise and describe and talk only of the land they adopted to settle but had not even a slightest inclination or nostalgia to talk about their history somewhere else this is foolishness!
The vedas talk of the history of the Sindhu-Saraswati region and not of the history of their own past somewhere in Central Asia are we that naive to believe still in Invasion-Migration Theory?
It's unfortunate that the learned people like her don't challenge these illminded theories of western scholars. We are still so mentally colonised by the west!

      it is a pity this indian company INFOSYS IS FUNDING THE SAME BRITISH THEORY AND falling down to the feet of white european lobbysts and american protestant groups , see what Danino , a french serious scholar has to say ;
Danino says 1) “There is not one word in our scriptures, not one to prove that the Aryans ever came from anywhere outside India … the whole of India is Aryan, nothing else,” Swamiji had said.
2)NatureGeographical details also challenge the theory. “The Rig Veda has numerous references to ocean, ships, sailing, storms and waves, all of which invaders from Central Asia would not have known about,” noted Danino.
3)The archeological verdict turns out to be a negative, as well. “Had the Aryans migrated into India, we would expect some evidence of different tools, weapons, objects of daily use, pottery style and art forms, but that’s not the case,” said Danino. After more than a century of archeological investigations, there is still no evidence showing the arrival of new people in India.
Due to mounting proof, archaeologists eventually dropped the Aryan Invasion Theory in favour of the concept of cultural continuity, between classical India and the Indus valley civilization.
4)During the past 10-15 years, several anthropological and genetic studies have emphasized a demographic continuity and a genomic unity in the Indian population. These experts, like archaeologists, also ruled out the arrival of new people. “It’s been concluded that all major components of the Indian populations have been settled here for some 40,000 years, at least,” said Danino.
conclusion : “Despite such strong scientific evidence (and there is more in the fields of agriculture, archaeoastronomy, etc.), the Aryan invasion paradigm has become so entrenched in Western academia that it continues to be promoted even today,” quipped Danino.
“In fact, India’s school textbooks also perpetuate the theory even though conclusive evidence shows there was no Aryan invasion.”

I would like to say about reasoning ( a question asked on) at the time of Rugveda creation...( though, I am not yet convinced with the say that Aaryas were outsiders!...it needs some more research..)
...rightly as Ma'am said, the then expressions, wether in the form of some script or oral/verbal ways, those used to be ("must be" looking at the very creative time and era of culture and language- formation) so genuine and spontaneous, which is again based on then existent reality, they were experiencing, interacting everyday with the Natural forces, calamities, and adapting with all in between all...and as a natural processing happens in the minds of the observer, experience holder, and a thinker, ( like contemplating and meditating ), one's consciousness or even of collective consciousness, becomes intuitive later on...
... reasons are the aftermaths of already established laws, afterthought, like if it's happenes/ed, how's so?,.. under what circumstances and parameters?...and all those possible "shanka- kushankas" while re-formulating the already existing phenomenon, in this case, someone else's truths, experienced by them in those circumstances, which is almost impossible to recreate in front of your own present mental, natural, even can say in front of your so much affected conscience's scenarios...the natural response never need logic...fire is fire, it burns!...so Ma'am is asking rightly to go beyond the "suktas, ruchaas" as script- the mere signs and try to understand ( I bet you can feel it too, if choose to be natural as human mental and emotional bundal))) the thoughts- the significance that Rugveda people lived with their then-own( genuinely personal) sensibilities... otherwise, Rugveda or any Veda are just the verbal corpse without the "praan"- the sensibilities they've created once lived by them!
...I am so much impressed by Hon.Paranjape Ma'am's beauuuutiful explaining with Rugveda!!!... that's how knowledge should be imparted, simply Chrystal-clear in day light!...Thanks Ma'am 🙏 😊💐

However, there is no archaeological evidence of migration of Aryans to the Indian subcontinenet, rig Veda has no mention or memory of the migration. Mention of Sarasvati as a full flowing river and a host of other literary and linguistic facts prove that Aryans were indigenous. Then why go into that topic.

I’m more interested in Upanishad part of the Vedas, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Vishnu focus sections of the Bhagavata Purana. I find Vedas I can’t connect deeply with oblations to Indra, Agni, Vayu, Aditi, Surya, Brahma. Its a bit difficult to follow for me, when I see Murti of Vishnu, or chant Ashtakshara Mantra I have a stronger self realisation of Atman. Or when I read Upanishads which discuss Brahman I have a better intuitive grasp on reality. Even Tattvabodha from Adi Shankara, which is nondualistic I can still have a intellectual grasp of his concepts. With Rig Veda, it flies over my head. There is no discussion of Atman and Brahman and Samkhya, Purusha Prakriti Vedanta stuff. Since Vedanta comes after. The Nyaya and Purva Mimamsa linguistics, Jungian Archetypes and anthropology is more relevant in interpreting Vedas, and I don’t have that grasp.

Greatly simplified. May I request learned like you to devise a simple method of teaching Sanskrit, not the AshTaadhyayi or Siddhant Kaumudi way. That would help spread the knowledge of Sanskrit and also ability to interpret even Vedic sanskrit. By the way reading ancient european history we find Aryans coming from east and the kings seeking their help to defeat their enemies. So one should look at that too. Also the fact of even last Persian King having title of "Aryameher" should also be considered. So migration could be reverse as Iceage set in and from Tibet Aryan tribes spread in both direction, India and Europe to Persia etc. Note they always chose riverside to settle down seek those lands from kings whom they helped. Also the fact the group of languiages along that route is called Indo European languages.

She has reduced everything down to human and material interpretation of our history. I can't believe she's reinforcing aryan migration/invasion theory and propounding that there was war between so-called natives and Aryans. It's astonishing that she shouldn't know that neither Aryans and Anaryans are tribal nomenclatures nor does the term Adivasi have roots in antiquity.

They do mention Vishnu (or Bishnu, if you prefer) in the Rigveda... many verses and Suktas are dedicated to him
But the Vishnu of the Rigveda is different from our later idea of Vishnu as one of the Tridev
At the time of the Rigveda, Vishnu as a dev was another way of worshipping the Sun... we wanted to worship very specific aspects of the Sun... about Sun's journey through the sky from dawn, to noon, to dusk... we worshipped this aspect in a poetic way by calling it Vishnu's 3 big steps
Only later, people started to join this Vishnu dev together with Narayana dev, and he became the 1 single Vishnu-Narayana dev whom we know and love today. And this newer idea of Vishnu or Narayana we worship him as one of the Tridev
And the 3 big steps of Vishnu changed into the 3 steps of Vamana Avatar, in the Mahabali story
But yes, otherwise the Tridev was a later concept in Hinduism, and the Rigvedic people had not developed the concept yet

The easy good life the easy lazy way - the same way prostitutes/gigolos/leeches/freeloaders obtain the easy comfortable life - find a rich Sugar Daddy, praise him sky high and hope he throws them a bone
Simple, primitive religions that view God as their ticket to the good life and they get it by begging and groveling down on their knees(Muslims do it 5 times a day & which is why I say we Hindus should not kneel to God in the Temple)
We are not slaves of God but God's True Children - our place is by the side of God Rama, his arm around us
Not down on the ground on our knees - that is for slaves

If Homo Sapiens were not primarily evolving in this part of the world, all have come from outside. This obsession with national territory and consequent attempts to manufacture its History is the actual colonial gift. If it is attached with pride and politics of culture and religion, I don't think it's possible to actually preserve any tradition now.

First, I will pay my respect to the "teacher" in Paranjpe ji. She is fluent and very articulate and her erudition is quite impressive.
But it is deeply disappointing to hear her start with "Vedic Aryans were from the foothills of Caucuses..." Yes, I know she did say, this is a controversial topic and there is no evidence to say Aryans were from outside the Indian subcontinent. Point is, if there is no evidence, then don't make the mistake of perpetuating a very divisive theory about this Aryan Invasion or migration. Stay clear from it.
I am not a scholar. I am just a person keen on civilizational issues. Right from Srikant Talageri, N S Rajaram, Koenraad Elst, to Dr. Lavanya Vemsani, Raj Vedam Nilesh Oak and so many others have rigorously argued and have shown on textual, archeological, astro-archeological, genetic mapping basis, that AIT/AMT was concocted by agenda-driven Indologists in the 19th century to justify the colonial agenda of "civilizing" the natives and in the process perpetrate economic looting and evangelize the masses and convert the heathens.
The entire colonial project was to somehow divide the natives and rule them. They created so many fault lines in this society. "Aryan-Dravidian divide" was instrumental in telling the natives that "there is already a superior race from the West who brought Vedas and Sanskrit to the backward natives of this land, and this so-called "Aryan stock" has been diluted because of their mixing with the natives, so we are here to correct that and bring you the joys of real "Aryan civilization.""
Now, how racist is that! So many traditional scholars (Listen to Late Bannanje Govindachraya, who gave us the in-depth understanding of all our sacred texts with his amazing knowledge acquired for almost 70 years!) have told us that "Arya" was not a description of a race or people. It was simply the way to address a noble person. Then why would you perpetuate this European-driven racist theory?
Unfortunately, Indian scholars are still doing the colonizer's job of dividing this society. This "Aryans from outside" has started this whole "Dravidian movement" which could lead to secessionist movement in TN. Islamists justify subsequent invasion and oppression of Hindus by the brutal Turks by using this "Aryan Invasion" as a crutch to say, "hey, all upper caste Hindus are outsiders who oppressed the natives, and the Muslim rulers came as liberators of these natives..." This is so ridiculous, yet, Leftist intellectuals and their students believe this trope and continue to use this argument to the great detriment of Hindu society.
So, please, recognize the existential threats these fictional stories pose and how they continue to weaken the Dharmic civilization. Avoid perpetuating these baseless theories. Categorically dismiss them. If not, we may come to a point in time, when there will be no Hindu-Vaidik civilization. Just as Zoroastrians were wiped out from present-day Iran by the predatory exclusive religion of the desert, India and Hindus will be wiped out. When it comes to our civilization, it is better to be paranoid of external and internal threats and stay vigilant. If not we will be relegated to museums. This precious way of life will be forever destroyed.

What I can infer from your comment: If this scholar can make such a basic mistake of assuming Aryan Migration as a valid proposition whereas you are clearly saying it is false; that means that this scholar is fake, therefore she has no credibility, therefore all the people on the podium have no credibility and therefore Bhandarkar Oriental Institute doesnt have credibility. Since they are making such a basic mistake which no scholar should be making. Isnt that right?

@@nirvanabliss73 Yes I am also trying to understand the need of such a response. He should read a bit more than only listen to the likes of Raj Vedom. Maybe start researching about Indo European creation myths and relation to ancient Indian texts.

Dear Sucheta Pranjape: Good lecture with some errors. Your statement on Big Bang was totally wrong; Newton had nothing to do with it. Just read the article in Wikipedia and clear it up. Never the less I enjoyed your lecture.

@Vijay Kumar Regardless, Newton still did not take part in developing our knowledge/understanding of the Big Bang

Sad to see how such great minds are still colonised and not updating with changes in the theory that aryans came from outside. May be this is how undercurrents operate.

And Aryans didn’t migrate from Iran, Infact, Iranians are distant brother of Aryans only . The line got separated sometime ago and they migrated towards Modern day Iran( sounds similar to Aryan , right?).
Aryans in their most important text didn’t even mention about their so called ‘original’ homeland ? I wonder why ? 😅
They sang praises of local rivers of Indian subcontinent, especially Saraswati river .
