    Couple quick updates:
    With the current version of studio you don't need to mirror exported models anymore. Just rotate -90 degrees on the X axis. This one really tripped me up though. If you're having trouble with auto smooth, make sure to clear custom split normals data in object data properties.
    Thanks for watching and play well!

    When merging by distance, a window will open in the bottom left side of the viewport. You can use this to further control the distance at which your vertices will merge. bumping it up a few fractions of a unit is usually enough, but you may end up combining multiple parts as a result. If you're just planning on using this workflow for posing and still renders, this shouldn't be an issue. Tris to Quads can also be done by just pressing Alt + J. The rest of the tutorial lines up pretty closely with how I've been doing it, so this should be pretty helpful for beginners. Good work.

    So... When I tried to import my version of Tahu... He was laying down instead of upside down. I think when I unparented everything is when he flipped upside down.
    That said, when I try to add bones, it won't let me. I see the Ampiture, but it doesn't have a second drop down menu. I don't know if this is becuase Im using a different version of Blender (I haven't updated it since 2020.)
    Also, what translucency do you set for the Brainstalk/ trans pieces when you're coloring them?
    And One last question... Do you kow how Awesome you are for making this video? Seriously, even with the issues I am running into, I never knew how easy it is to import lego models into blender. It has been incredibly motivating.

    I plan on making animations with my custom mocs, which have custom decals and textures. How would I go about doing so. PS: if you can also let me know how to import into Source Filmmaker that'd be Awesome.

    • @DM_GLAUCON
      @DM_GLAUCON  2 года назад +1

      Kept you waiting huh? Sorry, I don't know anything about Source Filmmaker but that sounds awesome! Texturing can be tricky at first. With decals on flat surfaces you can probably just "project from view." There's also stuff like shrink-wrap modifier for curved decals. My favorite trick with repeating textures is to ignore UV mapping all together and just use box projection

    • @Legoman071
      @Legoman071 2 года назад +2

      @@DM_GLAUCON Thanks for the tips! I decided that I'm going to stick with blender for Custom Models, and leave SFM for others. I be sure to keep in mind you advice about UV maps.

      @DM_GLAUCON  3 года назад +2

    I wanted to texture a weapon that has 2 different colors: one for the base and the other for the blade.
    In Studio the blade color was orange and i couldn't change it, and i couldn't do it in Blender either because it made me change only the color of the base. How can i fix this?

    • @DM_GLAUCON
      @DM_GLAUCON  2 года назад

      In Blender you can assign multiple materials to a single object. Then in edit mode, by selecting a group of faces, you can make those a different color or texture. Other tutorials can probably explain it better than I can. Hope this helps!

    i tried to import some mini spaceships into blender for the heck of it, they are cargo ships and there were two versions in the build scene, one loaded and one not, they imported the same way as tahu there but much worse both were upside down and clipped inside each other (despite being side by side a good distance apart in studio) and the ships' spines (rigid flex-tubes) were pointed vertically outside of the ships, the ends of these tubes are counted as separate objects, as is the lego branding on most of the studded parts, that and potentially another problem i have yet to find results in nearly 1811 recognised objects, even after extracting and deleting an entire unloaded cargo ship it only brings it down to 1772, which makes no sense to me because the part count of the loaded one barely scrapes 300, but i digress, is there a quick way to delete a massive number of a specific object, all the extraneous objects conveniently have the same name 'logo-lego' next to a green triangle thing, all the objects also have a material assosiatet with them, but they don't work at all as far as i can tell
    and how do i realighn the spine piece to attach to all the dozen or so chunks currently free floating

    • @DM_GLAUCON
      @DM_GLAUCON  2 года назад

      Flex tubes can be tricky. When I imported Makuta Teridax I basically had to make my own tube in Blender using a curve modifier. As for importing those spaceships, I've never tried to import complex system models, so I'd probably start with one ship at first. Maybe even focusing on modular parts before putting it all together

    I tried the merge by distance on the Kakama and it came out very messy and warped. I'll see if I can mess around with it.

    • @DM_GLAUCON
      @DM_GLAUCON  6 месяцев назад

      Gotcha. If the merge distance is too low, it’ll eat away at your mesh. Try it again and look for a pop up in the bottom left. You should be able to set the merge distance manually

    • @DM_GLAUCON
      @DM_GLAUCON  3 года назад +1

      Basically it just removes some unnecessary edges. You could probably skip it if you want. I needed to manually merge vertices and sharpen edges on a few pieces so it made it easier to see what was going on
