@@Mick0Mania yoooo, hey mickey! yup, the game featured here is a university project from a few years ago. I work for an indie game studio now doing 3d art and level design. 😎

a fantastic showcase and really captures the imaginative graphic design of the 2000s. Its so strange to think of what were intended as just ads, received so much cool creative energy, and became this important art work that connects so many of us! thank you so much for highlighting my renders :)
For sure! Really enjoyed going through the textures showcase on the Masks of Power website. Love how in the world of the game, the parts aren't plastic but coated metal that can be damaged through natural wear and tear. Awesome work by you and the rest of the team 💙
The production value of this video is IMMACULATE. I’d say that it captures the toonami X Y2K aesthetic well, but honestly, I think you’re making it your own.
Oh, my god. I LOVE the Toonami/G4 Icons format this channel has. From the robot mascot, spaceship, even the TV bumper breaks. Really takes me back to my favourite memories of the early 2000s.
This is why i love the Bionicle community. We may not have anything currently going on the official side, but us, the fans, we are what keeps the world of Bionicle alive. From little plastic toys to an amazing world filled with imagination and legend. I never owned the figures besides from having pieces and making my own little dudes, but i loved every bit of Bionicle.
Even though bionicle was cancled a year before i was born, i still somehow feel nostalgic and glad it has such a thriving community, and everything that comes from it is great
This is why we do what we do. Seeing people come together and celebrate eachothers creations and acomplishments is something that I always hope for in every community. Bionicle has given me a medium to not only engage with other peoples work and ideas, but to also have the chance to contribute my own piece to the grander picture. I am honoured to have Kolhii Champions featured and enjoyed by you and everyone else! Play Well Glaucon
This was all very eye-opening, it really is super cool to see just how many different takes and reimaginings something can portray, despite such inactivity on the official side of things!
Some time ago I thought about game based on these sandy concepts, and you actually did it! Though, my idea was that you wandering around this sand realm and collect parts for creating a Toa. Your story with collecting pieces of Vahi is even better. I wish there was also day and night cycle, like on Faber's concept video. Good job anyway!
Excellent work! I was a big fan of Argonaut's work back on the Super Nintendo and PS1, that's a shame that City of Legends never worked out for them. And Masks of Power looks like it could actually realize the world I had imagined when I read the comics back in the 2000s!
Thanks, Garrett! Definitely curious to learn more about Argonauts history. Especially their game Orchid, which was also cancelled but looks so ahead of its time
I'm not if it was a coincidence or not, but Bionic Recur Unit also shares a lot of visual similarity with a piece of Faber art showing a faceless Toa wandering a desert, with the Vahi half-buried in the sand.
So a platformer that is open ended, yet explorative, a concept I wish more games were like this as even when I was young, the city of bionicle (Yes I called it that, pretty stupid then), was fascinating but also meh, I was more interested in a more wild nature, but the city is something I would like to explore. Though if it almost scales the whole city, I would like a system similar to a tram for ease of traveling besides just on foot. Though with the premise, a more indepth engine can really help out, though if combat gonna be a thing, I wouldn't mind tools that also function as weapons, heck they can be similar to what the other 5 have, just not as great.
God Bionicle City of Legends sounds like my dream childhood game! Like a 3rd person Mirror's edge set in Metru Nui. It's a shame Lego's most ambitious feeling game recently seem more down to earth and subdued, which is still cool, but I miss the energy City of Legends was going for.

Massive props for all your research! Having the playable demo and prototype builds is incredible. Didn't have time to cover in the video, but your BTG Onua mod is super cool 😎
Not sure what it is but I've seen more Bionicle content being releases in the past few months than I have since 2010 when it was coming to an end. Bionicle was my childhood so I'm super happy that I either somehow found the fandom once more after years or that the fandom has for, some reason, been revived. Either way Lego, this is your calling to bring the original Bionicle story back and give the old fans something to love once more.
I literally love this so much. It feels like it's laid out as a real TV show. Very informative and funny. This has to have been made by a Canadian with all the "commercial" bits, really hit me in the nostalgia. The graphic design throughout the video is topnotch as well, I thought this was a much bigger higher budget channel when I first watched this. Seriously, bravo. Please continue making stuff like this!!
Essenger is a legend man. The same dude creating godly songs with cryoshell also rocks a life size Kanohi kraahkan while in a skirt and thigh highs. I wish I had that level of self confidence.
I was thinking whilst watching you have that rare 2000s broadcast style I've only seen with RebelTaxi and then he show up lol. Great video, highlighted some really cool projects i want to try
Seeing 'Masks of Power' right there, already inspired me back then to try pitching up another possible Indie game centred around Bionicle..., but this time, more focused on a fan story set in another time and place. The distant future if you will...
Ah yes, Masks od Power...I hope it will be a great game because the music here brings back old times and it's tempting to devote more than a few hours to this game
11:26 I recognised that Mirror’s Edge theme before you even flashed in the title. That’s the second Mirror’s Edge Bionicle fan I’ve found online in just two days. 😅
I remember watching posts of your videos on twitter (fuck off musk, i won't call it X) thanks to Rebeltaxi and once i check your videos...i must say, i'm a fan and can't wait what will be your next video! Plus, this video fillms me with nostalgia of litsening to a lot of All Insane Kids, The All American Rejects, Cryoshell and Daughtry, making simple but charming mocs, watching tons of stop motion videos and playing Bionicle Heores over and over again as a kid
I'm seriously hoping for that someone will take on later stories in the Bionicle world. The Piraka and Inika have so many interesting elements that would make for such an awesome story to tell in game!
I completely agree, but unfortunately the Inika and Piraka don't get nearly the love they deserve for a lot of reasons. Early fans were dropping out around that time as they grew up and lost interest or had more grown up priorities take precedence, younger fans were put off by the years of lore and worldbuilding making it feel inaccessible, fans who had gotten into it at just the right age and time were turned off by the severe tonal shift of the Inika storyline or seeming abandonment of the legacy characters, and so on. I can't fault any of those reasons for why that story isn't more popular, especially given how rushed and confusing most of it felt, but you're right that the lack of detail Lego put into that story makes it rich for the fans to do what they do best - make their own stuff that fills in the blanks.
Wait, don't I seem to recall there being that fan recreation of "The Legend of Mata Nui" from 2001? Did that ever get finished, or did they pull the plug on the project?
maybe i should get back into Godot, again. i want a Bionicle game that isn't just on Mata Nui or any other Matoran-Location! i once had the idea of creating a game about Zakaz, where one female Skakdi uncovered the history of her kind, before Makuta Spiriah ruined the whole Island with the Visorak, but i think if i would make a game now, i would rather create a game that takes place on Stelt, considering that I've created more than 10 MOCs, that live on this island and that I've written a story for my steltian cast, already. maybe i'll make a point and click adventure, similar to the Monkey Island Games. or what would be suited best for a Game on Stelt? but hey, maybe i'll get back to the idea of a Zakaz Game... if only i wasn't such a procrastinator. either way: that's not to say that these games are bad, far from it! it's just that it can be a bit tiring to see that fangames ONLY tackle 2001 and the Island of Mata Nui, instead of trying to make fan games about locations that the canon didn't expand too much about. still, i'm excited for Masks of Power!
