First off, Mac is an animal. How does he swing both ways so well?!?! Second, I'm really excited to see this review. I just got the 639CBs in November of last year. Had I known these were coming out I would've waited, but I have no complaints with my irons so far. Love Sub70 products and the praise they're getting. Keep up the great work TXG, love you guys!

So for one props to you guys for reviewing sub70 and helping spread awareness for the brand. Really good quality clubs and amazing customer services. Not to mention a 60 day money back guaranteed return policy. Also righty mac is crazy good.

Good on u guys testing irons u don’t sell. Keeping ur constituency’s best interest in mind - even when it competes with ur bottom line is the mark of integrity.

I was really close to going with sub70 irons. What held me back was me being a first-time new club buyer and I didn't have a good sense of what my swing needed and really wanted the fitting experience. I decided to get fit by my local shop. I don't regret it but the guys I dealt with at sub70 were kind, straight up, and definitely helped me out to the maximum they could within the constraints of DTC business model!

Honestly man, as a newbie the most important thing IMO is clubhead awareness. I wish I would have started with something more blade-y, because the feedback you get from strikes will improve your iron game.

Amazing right-handed swing for a lefty and the results were incredible. As a Sub70 homer I will attest they are the real deal. Their products are amazing and customer service is best in class. If you're nervous about buying they do have a demo program, in addition to an outstanding return program. I'd put their stuff up against any major brand on the market today.

Still waiting for a DTC bracket! Or some kind of comparison head-to-head against big names brands.
Seems like every video they are all very similar, feel great, look good, and incredible value.
But would be intresting to see any differences in spin rates/ lofts/ ball speed etc. for anyone choosing between them.
I got my Haywood combo set on preorder after watching the review and they have been incredible!

The clubs look amazing IMO. They look fantastic and with the standard lofts it appears to be an amazing deal.

I do love DTC clubs, and depending on the company, you can get great customer service. In my case, I spent a couple hours on the phone with the guys at Sub70 talking about my game, my swing, my handicap, my clubs, and my goals before getting a combination of components put together. I ended up in their 699 irons and a couple hybrids; I love them. They seem to fit me really well and my handicap has come down a bit since getting them. Along the same lines, I also spent some time talking to the folks at New Level before getting some wedges from them to fill out my bag (the Sub70 wedges I looked at were out of stock). They are pretty amazing, as well. There's no way I could have replaced my whole bag getting fit for name brand clubs- just would have priced me out of the game.

This just solidified my choice in trading my Taylormade R7 Forged for the Sub 70 659CB Raw 5-AW set. I love the fact that they're a DTC company, not some overpriced OEM set that has the same specs and performance. Also..... to echo everyone else, Mac's righty swing is beasty. I own 15 different Sub 70 clubs. The clubs are fantastic, but their customer service is even better. I had a shaft failure on my 3W - shaft broke under the hosel - and they shipped me a new club built to my specs the same week, with a return box to send the old head back. The club was a year and half old, used in 100+ rounds plus on my home simulator.
      Seriously top notch service.

As Mac says, the look at address is probably the most important thing in terms of "aesthetics" and your reviews would be greatly improved if you did include a filmed visual "at address" moving the camera a bit around so that we can see how the heads really look.
It's particularly important for brands like Sub70 where the pics on the site are "weird" and the possibility to have a look at them before even trying/demo-ing or plain buying is rather limited!
Anyway, thanks for the good work, I'm very interested in a combo of the 659 TC 6 to PW and CB in the 5 and 4... Just wish the lofts were a bit more "traditional", with a 7i at 34/35° and a PW at 47°... but I guess sub70 can bend them 2° weaker and that would be quite a perfect match.

I demo'd some Sub70 irons a bit ago, and beyond the clubs being fantastic, was the customer service and support. You get an email reply almost instantly to any inquiry, and even though the demo program says that I end up paying for the shipping portion, and get the refund on the demo portion, Sub70 returned my entire demo cost, and paid for the shipping. I'm not quite ready to purchase new irons yet, but when I do, it will be Sub70. They get my highest rating for a club company.

I think there are stigmas now with buying irons that you have to fit a category. My first set were blades, little did I know, and I figured out how to hit the middle which made me a good player.
So the ultimate question is would a big thick cavity back help your game or will irons like these make you a better player?

    • @cc-rg7dz
      @cc-rg7dz 2 года назад

It has nothing to do with it being a cavity back. The "blade vs cavity back" debate is so insignificant it's pointless. It's always loft and always will be loft. This 4 iron here is 22 degrees which for all intents and purposes makes it a 3 iron. So 215 is perfectly normal for that range at 95mph head speed.

When I see the testing for DTC products that you have done with the irons for Haywood and Sub 70, I really don't know why someone would pay the extra 800-1000 for an OEM especially considering the market these player cavity irons are made for. How much more are you really going to gain playing a t100? Most of these companies offer a variety of shaft options and even at that I know you can even just purchase the heads if you wanted to and buy your own shafts and build them to how you like. My next set of irons will not be an OEM, they will come from DTC. The customer service at these companies are usually very good as well. You could use the extra money towards fitting another area of your bag, a golf trip, membership etc..

Sub 70 is known for their customer service and will definitely give you their time to help you make choices. Of course the fitting is still the best method. Something else to consider is that the head on Sub 70 clubs is the only thing they make, the shafts and grips are all big name with multiple options.

@@clubchampionmedia awesome. I was going to ask the exact question because I get the exact same ball speed numbers with my pw, 7 iron. And lucky enough for me, I play the modus 105 in my ping i200s. Looks like it's a good shaft for my swing speed

Ian if you were to have a preference between Sub 70 and New Level which would you opt for? Both look like quality offerings. Thank you.

@@gregwilliams2066 mate I went NL 902pd and they are sensational. Moved my Mizuno and Miura to the back up spot. Don’t know about the sub70’s but the New Level are as good as anything else out there.

I noticed that all of Mac's hits were on the heel. My question is how do you correct for that? That is my constant swing miss to the point of almost shanking every shot. I move farther away from the ball, and that just creates a whole new set of problems. Could that be corrected by a different weight shaft?if so, heavier or lighter?

I have the same issue and what helped me was setting up with the ball centered where the grooves end out towards the toe , Ive had some shanky weeks during the last 3 years before I started this ,everything is good now but if I get lazy and forget to adjust my ball marks are so close to the hosel I start having flash backs !!!!

I owned a set of 639 CB's and loved everything about them except for the durability. The steel that they use is super soft. So soft, that I got a few pings on the faces just by catching stray grains of sand in between the ball and face. Sub 70 customer service is absolutely amazing, though. Can't compliment them enough.

makes sense. They had to give somewhere to hit that price point. Still, if you're a decent player who isn't an everyday player, these might last a fairly long time.
