- Whether you have fond memories of the original 1990 BMW 850 coupe, or just know it only from Will Smith’s “gettin jiggy with it”; BMW’s high-end luxury sport coupe has been missing from the U.S. lineup for 20-years. Well, it’s back, and dare we say, more alluring than ever!
Find us on your TV @ www.motorweek.o...
John Davis is still going on strong after all these years. He’s look good for his age .
Plus this 8 series . I want one.its incredible
Pod lmfaoooooooo sometimes but I’m glad to see him still up and running and his voice still up to part
I say this once I'll say this again secretly he's a reptilian
John Davis saying getting jiggy with it would make the best Pbs pledge drive ever
Fish hook tat? My how Motorweek has changed from automotive magazine to RUclipsr.
Wow wow!!! So glad to see John Davis still doing the show.GOD bless you Mr.Davis.keep up the wonderful work for all the car enthusiasts.thank you for all these years of dedicated work.thank you.we all appreciate your work.
John Davis and MotorWeek just feel like home
Really, best hand they could find has a fish hook on it.
disgusting!
This is a public funded TV program, and they can’t even find someone without the awful fish hook art on their hand....what’s wrong with this???? Are they trying to send some kind of message???? Please help me to understand.
My thoughts 💭 also, almost as bad as a face tattoo....... almost
Glad I'm not the only one that finds this off-putting. And it's not even just this video! Ol' fatty tatty gets to do other on-camera reviews as well! Trashy.
I agree it’s low class. I’m a tattoo guy but you’re demoing a high class bmw, Hand tattoo guy isn’t the target market and it’s offputting
The M8 competition is gonna be crazy!!
NO BRAKING TEST? HOW GOOD ARE THE BRAKES?
Better than Mustang I'm sure.
Looks more like a new 6 series, than a real flagship. The old 8 was so different from regular lineup you never mistook it for anything but flagship. The BMW flagship is i8 but it figure even BMW forgets about it.
Back when V12 engines could be had in a decent number of non-supercars, too!
Recruiting hand models from the trailer park seems ill-fitting for a $112,000 car. Or any car, really.
0:17 That's one of my favorite songs!
Taking this over 9/10 SUVs.
Real classy tattoo on the hand model.
Oh man, minus points for that awful fish hook hand tattoo >< As for the car, it seems way too bland in the BMW lineup compared to the old 8, which really looked like something special. Just another length of BMW sausage to sell... I also DO NOT agree the 8 series is beautiful at all. Frankly, in person, I find it pretty hideous.
It is hideous. BMW design is a cesspool of retards now.
Beautiful car definetly!😎👍
Looks nice in that colour
Great job, John! Keep it coming!
That 🐠 hook is so so distracting. Like…WHY? Did you get that? 😂
The new Ford M8, oops I mean the new BMW Mustang, no no I mean the new BMW M8. At first glance of the thumbnail, I thought it was a Mustang.
Did he really say umpteen? What a treasure.
2 words just stunning
Great review thanks everyone there 💪😎🇦🇺🇦🇺
Captain Hook again !🤣
2:32 Cameraman about to get Killed !!
My BMW was a great time with the best car ever made in the Atlanta City.
Definitely the nicest looking BMW out there. Althought the rear end has lost its brand identity.
It's the German made Mustang 😊
@@rickmassey1272 Haha yea. And I personally have a 5.0 Genesis, which is the Korean Mustang 😁
The Adventure Auto Nah.Too many doors.
The Adventure Auto It’s actually a Korean Lexus F variation
@@MandusahRamirez The Lexus IS-F is a great car. And yea I prefer for my daily driver to have 4 doors. I have 2 sports cars that have 2 doors so got that covered too.
Outgoing 6 series coupe looks slicker.
The hook tattoo bro
Do you get to hear real engine noises or do the speakers make vroom vroom noises at you?
Very good looking car !
John looks very good in is blue outfit next to the car. I hope it is his car.
What kind of sorcery are they using with the gear lever
The kind of sorcery that will require thousands of dollars for maintenance when it fails.
Rick Massey amen to that brother
The M850i was more fun to drive than the M5 Competition
Why does this feel like a VeriMark commercial back in the 90s 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Give an S63 coupe anyday
I hope to make that my next used car
Ford: We make the same amount of power & torque, with a twin turbo V6, for MUCH less $$!
BMW: crickets...crickets...crickets...
why does it remind me of a ford mustang 😂
Nice BMW M8, m8. I can't h8 but only appreci8 and give it a gr8 r8!
I saw a couple of these on the showroom floor of a BMW dealership yesterday. They look much better in person especially with the matte blue silver paint. $123,000 is a fair price for this class of car. I like the looks of the Lexus LC and Aston Martin DB11 better though.
123k a fair price?? 😄
They missed the shot with not allowing a V12 in the M8
Looks like BMW was inspired by the S550 Mustang
beautiful car
Yes and Please!
gettin' jiggy wit it
My Lottery Win GT. I Can Dream, Can't I? (smile)
Give me a base model, 6-speed manual, 230i couple with just heated seats and steering wheel and park assist as options. I want a driving experience, not a bunch of crap I neither need nor want. It's a shame the joy of simplicity is almost completely gone out the window.
Exactly. The 2 series is probably the purest current BMW. One of the last BMWs that you can get with a stick.
@@pascutia Car and Driver said almost those exact words when they reviewed the 230i in 2016. It really is BMW's last pure driving machine. I freely admit that I own a 2018 X1 sDrive28i, but that being said, SUV's are killing the automotive market. I'm all for practical cars, I just refuse to believe we all need that much practicality. I'm a trucker, so I have a lot of stuff to haul in and out of my semi when I have home time...laundry, luggage, etc., so the X1 gave me more room, but I still stand by the thought that SUV's have become this bizarre status symbol and I don't understand how that exactly happened.
@@RedNekLvr22 Just get an estate!
Smh at the misinformed haters in the comment section. Bmws are very reliable. They are ranked 9th in reliability, ahead of even Honda, which is ranked 19th according to US News & World Reports. Do your research, step out the 90s, and stop hating.👌👍 ps your grandpas Lexus is still ranked 1st in reliability.
You get your car advice from US News & World Reports? LOL
Oneslackr you're an idiot. The same reason you think Honda is more reliable than bmw is the same reason I know you don't know jack about modern Hondas or bmws. LOL
BMW has invented an AWD Mustang that costs $120,000.....congrats?
The V12 engine and no B pillar is what made me fall in love with the E31 850Ci but this doesn't have either so i don't even consider this a real 8 Series coupe. And the interior falls way short. Especially comparing this to the S65 Coupe that has a V12, much more luxurious looks and an incredible interior a class larger in size and no B pillar.
No 1/4 mile??
Looks nothing like a mustang, y’all be trollin lol
the old 8 series looked like a Ford too, a Ford Probe Gt.
Rob Geez - you’re high, sir. From the side it absolutely looks like a modern mustang. Very very similar silhouettes.
😂😂😂😂
Beautiful car. Horrible tattoo!!!
Looks like a sperm cell with a hook tail...🤣
the new 6 series coupe, but let's call it 8 series now, we can charge a huge premium for it
Ah yes,the Munich Mustang.
What was the 1/4 mile time and trap speed? What was the 60-0 braking test? Come on motorweek, you guys were the best but have been slipping lately
Motor Trend tested in back in March. They got 0 - 60 3.5 secs., 1/4 mile 11.9 secs. @ 116.1 mph, braking 60-0 mph @ 107 ft., lateral acceleration @ .99g.
All BMWs in the last 30 years look the same
BMW made a more expensive luxurious Mustang. Well done. (Sarc)
The i8 is a more appropriate successor to the original 8 Series.
The styling is not surprising or unique compared to BMWs other models. Hopefully they fix this for the next generation.
Seriously though, a gas powered i8 without the blue accents would have been just fine.
BMW calls themselves the ultimate diving machine but they can't wait to get rid of the manual transmission , even the new 3 series will be automatic only in North America .
AND they are being built in Mexico! The REAL BMW soul is now found at Hyundai, where all the GREAT engineers now work, including former BMW god Albert Beirmann. I'd take a Veloster N designed by Beirmann over this garbage.
what were the 1/4 mile time and trap?

Motorweek prob ran a 12s pass and BMW didnt let them post it. He said it was about 100 degrees out to be fair
Looks so much like a Mustang
Thats a lot of money , I got my fully loaded 2019 mustang gt premium performance package for $46,500 , I can't understand why this color costs so much more .
Cost isn’t a sum of its parts. Bmw name adds prestige which costs money, 8 series is flagship which costs even more money. Value can be had across many different price points and I’m in agreement with your decision. Hell, I even traded a bmw to get my camaro 1le because I felt it offered tremendous performance value for money
*MSRP: From $111,900*
It looks like a mustang to me.
So BMW makes a Ford Mustang of a different color.
I like BMW but it's pricing like many brands is way to high. And the depreciation is one of the worst... Wonder if it will still be relevant in 4 year when people pay 1/3 what it will cost new... Tesla technology/luxury has taken over..
Tesla luxury, like the inability to properly paint a car?
RS bmw luxury? Plastic fantastic everything and a wonderful hot running twin turbo v8 that cooks everything plastic???? Have fun replacing everything.
Hook hand
Not as beautiful as the Lexus LC500, but the extra speed/power makes up for it
You pay an extra $20k, so whether it is worth the extra spread is up to you
I'm glad they made the option
Looks an awful lot like my 2019 Mustang. Except the Mustang will probably me more reliable .
Brad Wooldidge bmw is more reliable than Ford.
Mike Lesesne Who lied to you
Brad Wooldidge, don’t flatter yourself...no one will be confusing this 8 series for a mustang.
AJ Lee 👍
Mike Lesesne you’re a potato if you use the words, “BMW is more reliable than,” with a straight face. Money-pits once out of warranty.
Thumbs up #389. That fishing hook tattoo 😁👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣👌🍺🥃😂 a person after my own heart ❤️. Awesome 👏😎👍👍
Isn't the 8 series just a replacement for the 6 series?🙄
Does it come with a car phone 😂
No Manual ;-(
That 8 Series is a work of art looks better than anything Benz pisses out
I disagree wait till u driver S63 coupe 2019
I own an e31 1994 BMW 8 Series, one of the most beautiful coupes ever made. I was very excited by the new 8 Concept, but instead BMW took an updated 6 Series, slapped an 8 on its' ass to mark up the price, and topped it off with a ridiculous Dame Edna grill. No thanks. I'll stick with the 30 year old real one.
An endless money pit when it gets old
True dat
Who keeps an old BMW, Benz, Audi etc....? Most of them are leased anyway & they're not going to completely fall apart during the average 3 year lease.
@@oneslackr well, it *used* to be that if decently maintained, you could keep a car like a Mercedes for a very long time. Many people did it too. They were expensive upfront but they were also hallmarks in engineering excellence. The parts they were made with were expensive but also very high quality. Now (and since the mid-90's or so) they're just expensive. The German's know most of their customers are more concerned about keeping up appearances and prestige than quality.
Try in 30 years to find one that you can buy, this car will never be cheap.
@@ibmujic4764 😂 umm this car has deprecated like a stone! Can find them now under 60k. New they were well over 100k
If this guy turns anymore orange might actually into an orange
Keep that test driver away from it at night. With that fish hook tattoo, he'll be trying to saw off the catalytic converters once no one is looking.
Lifestyle? LOL? Yes, BMWs are the check engine and limp mode light lifestyle!
Great care to lease and get rid of as soon as the typical bmw problems start to emerge.
This would be an amazing car indeed, if only BMW would quit cheaping out with all the crappy plastic parts
Lol@ everyone saying this looks like a mustang.....it does from a certain angle, but for that kind of money, there are too many great many options outhere these days....I would hate for anyone to mistakenly say my 123k BMW is a damn pony....😁
I wish BMW and Mercedes offered more rear wheel drive as an option. I like this car, but I do not like the mandatory AWD. Too many higher spec BMW and Mercedes come with mandatory AWD. Why not offer a choice?
It’s because there is so much power. You wouldn’t want to drive a new BMW M5 or Mercedes-AMG E63 with 600 horsepower without all wheel drive.
Quite insulting to the first generation. Even the 6-series look a lot better, classy and sleek compared to...this.
I know
Power, yes.
Beauty, no.
Generates pages of error codes every day it is driven.
yeah .. and every 2nd month - in the repair shop. Engine oil - leaking. Fixed. Then gear box engine oil leaking. Fixed. Then xdrive oil must be changed. Fixed .. then .. SELL IT!
MEMO TO MotorWeek....please do not have any art forms on ones hand in this “respected” automotive show. Don’t NEED to see it, especially in the public funded television. At the end-of-the-day, this show is broadcasted in PBS!!! Do you copy??
This looks like a Premium Ford Mustang🤨. Looks like the Germans are running out of design ideas lol
Unreliable.
Overpriced krautmobile. If you have to, lease it because it'll become a giant money-pit when it's warranty expires!
LC500>this
It’s just so plain and boring looking.
