- Is the BMW 850i Xdrive a budget Bentley?
In 1990 BMW launched the BMW 850i, a svelte, shark-nosed grand tourer powered by a V12. As far as long-nosed ground jets go, it's a legend.
BMW has brought the 8 back (replacing the 6 series). This is the 2019 850i Xdrive. It has a 4.4-liter V8, 4 seats (technically), 523HP/553TQ, a cabon roof, and a lot of interesting tech.

Good squat form. Straight back. Vertical decent. 9\10
Descent, maybe?
I felt seduced.

That was quite elegant

Love that 100k car is considered budget just wait a couple year pick one up for 30k
Lol for sure -- and realistically they just don't have that Daaaayum factor :) I understand the sticker price, but its just .... its not hot enough I'm sorry Bimmer.
@@Mid.G. littarly no one asked
Nah it will take at least 10 years to get there
"budget bentley"... not budget. A $10m jet may be considered a budget version of another jet, if that other one is 50m+.
@@marcuswagner1396 Right.... That's why 2014 M5's what were 100k+ can be found for 35-40k nowadays albeit with 40-50k miles
I'm just here to say this: An 8 series is not a budget anything
would look better without a B pillar tbh
and i wish they stuffed a V12 in it
Cant do cool stuff like that amymore
Plus its just pointless to have a V12 these days.....
@@raymondnewbill5294 with emissions, yes
Shaiyan Hossain Everybody would but BMW are all about those driving dynamics.
@@MyMostBeautifuCinema not so much in the last five years (minus M3 CS/Comp stuff)
The international Lease Mobile
I own a BMW, do not lease. Stereotype broken...
Colin Ryan ok, but do you own the 8 series in which this comment is directed?
Because leasing is the way to go!!!
Leasing is the most expensive way to own a vehicle.
Pickle Jay they’re probably the 8th owner of said bmw as well xD
Audi needs to come out with an S8 Coupe’. Just for s&g’s
Facts. We’ve got the M8, let’s get then S8c8 and the ngr8t8 from the other companies!
Why? Won’t be as good as the 8 serious? Why bother :/
Realistically, I could see a coupe variant of the new A7
@@LegendInThaMakin it wont be so good, but probably better looking.
it'd be called the S9
100k+ 2019 car without radar cruise standard🤦🏻♂️
And what about a V12 version? Very ridiculous.
Tesla 1000% better.
Mustafa Ali just drive the damn car...who gives a hoot...
no standard car play is ridiculous but not everyone wants adaptive cruise
@@Gandalf721 - *BUUUUUUULLLLSHIT!* I don't believe you!
Zack, your forward camera placement was the best I’ve ever watched on a one take. Well done. I really got the felling of driving that road. Sucked about the traffic though.
Totally agree with you when it comes to the hard button controls. BMW have smartly laid out the necessary controls for the driver, therefore not having to take their attention away from the road. Other companies putting to many of the basic controls into touchscreen making it a challenge for the driver to do the simple things whilst driving.
“I adjust my temperature like a menopausal women” go Zack....🤣🤣🤣
Basically the climate control in this car is garbage
@@handofgod9386 Nah, Zack was saying he changes the temperature often in general.
pdavid24 exactly! Because bmw climate controls are garbage!
Your reviews have improved greatly over time Zack. Keep up the good work!
What a great review!! I don't think I've seen you do one before. Awesome.
Great review Zack. Never understood the rear end until I actually saw a fire truck turn then I saw how the rear end turned in the opposite direction . Very fascinating to see it in action. you explained it very well.
Exceptional review! Finally a guy who doesn’t sound like he’s selling something or clearly has a bias. Thank you.
Great review Zack!
Side profile looks like a mustang lol
@LiDz _01 Mustang.
Sooo true. Especially the rear quarter panel.
I love BMW as much as anyone and you're right, even from the first time I saw it I thought Mustang.
Yep. Hilariously so.
@@Mahan.M yeah but for a much higher price point
Was this on the 1 headed south? I swear that was Davenport, but I’m so accustomed to seeing Angel’s crest that it threw me off-what a great road for this car.
Good review!
Bring back the pillarless coupes.
Come on BMW
Even the C216 CL class looks way better
E Class coupe homie... go watch the straight pipes review.
@@aceofspades6667 Absolutely. The E coupe is flawless
Also you need the 3400$ stereo that lights up!
The next refresh or two are going to look amazing. Lots of potential to make it looks as good as it sounds and moves.
Amazing nature there! Where is it exactly?
I was well entertained. Thank you.
It's so dope to see the smoking tire driving on the roads you drive almost every day. If he went up a few miles more that road becomes totally empty. If they ever come back to Santa Cruz I could tell them a number of great roads up here.
On almost all BMWs you get programmable buttons where volume knob is,so you probably can save lane departure warning shortcut and then in just couple clicks turn it off.
They should give 5 such a buttons.
To make things simple again.
Just like in the '90.
Saw one in person 🔥
I just checked out the s53 and LC500 - its not even close, the m850 rips those apart in every category. The S53 looks like a CLA, the Lexus looks like a Hyundai sport car, the BMW m850 is unmistakable. Radar cruise is not a big deal, if you max it out you'll have it anyways and if you can afford a $100k car, why not max it out.
The car is cool but I want to know ... What kind of watch are you wearing Zack?
I wasnt able to turn off steering intervention in sport plus it keeps taking over if i go over the line a bit
I don't recall TST having driven on the coast much, at all, with reviews or One Drive vehicles. Neat. That car has a beautiful looking interior. Another good BMW lease option for those with the means.
18 minute video 30 seconds of exterior nice looking car I think
im not sure what you're saying these seats get low asf, im 5-11 and i can go low enough to not be able to see the heads up, also the seats are insanely good.
Highway 1 outside of Davenport?
As a current M6 owner, I think that these BMWs are a great option that is more dynamic than a Bentley GT, S Coupe or DB11. The DBS is the best car in the segment though I'm sure but it is quite a bit more expensive. I enjoyed watching this, thanks.
finally someone with some sense
Anyone remember how nice the concept looked
Yeah, hood is way too tall for euro mandated drunk pedestrian impacts and other lame reasons, entirely ruins the look of the car.
where is this road at?
what's your watch called?
"I like to Adjust the AC like I'm going through withdrawals" 😂😂😂
8:21 How do you spell BMW without saying BMW😂

I still can't believe they have the balls to charge a subscription for carplay.
Apple car play. BMW doesn't come with Android smh
@@Venom198518 oof
Nice... this’ll be the car I buy 8 years from now for $25k.
3:57 Danger! Spit take in 3... 2...1...
Luv it!
It is the height of arrogance for BMW to charge a subscription fee for you to use your phone, which you paid for, with your car, which you also paid for. Next they will charge a subscription fee for you to turn on the radio.
I really wish they had a gran coupe version of this
Veruca Salt is an excellent musical choice, Zack.
Zack, I believe you can turn on/off the assists using the button next to the hazard lights. That will bring up a list of assistants and they're all configurable cdn.bmwblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/BMW-8er-G15-M850i-Interieur-Century-West-03.jpg
i think you can turn off the lane departure w a button beside the flashers, also this car without the radar cruise and automated driving features is not the true car
Bimmer Stang?
Buy an 5 year old M6 Coupe for $35k and save yourself $84,000! And have 560hp ;)
That's exactly what I would do lol. And that car looks just as good, if not better.
You can change the voice activation trigger words.
Zack, you always make me laugh. Congrats on the new record with the first ten seconds.
Nicely complete narrative. At 2 tons, it would be pretty good. But the others are mostly heavier. LC has a nicely crafted interior in detail, but a total ergonomic design mess overall.
What’s always annoyed me about BMW, Porsche (and Merc?) is that all the options are extra even though they have packages. What’s the point of packages if it only gives you one or 2 things? That’s no longer a package and more of a “sorry you can’t get that option unless you get the x package”. Audi includes a buffet of options you get included when you get the S-line package for example. VW gives you a fully loaded car when you opt for the r-line package. It just seems cheap to nickel and dime someone when their spending over $100k+ buying a car from you. I’ve owned 3 Bimmers, 1 Porsche, wife owns a VW, and now I’ve owned Audi’s for the past 8 years and I’m surprised to say that I haven’t looked back since.
But that's where they make their money. Sure they have packages that might have some stuff but if you really want what you want they'll give it to you but you gotta pay extra.
this is highway 1 looks like its close to davenport
stripped down M5 coupe with a 6-speed would be fabulous
Where did my favourite hairy Arab go? I had to recheck the channel to be sure
My friend who works at a BMW dealer told me he was instructed at a staff meeting not to let a service customer leave without spending at least $1000 because the boss had a $1 million per month target.
I wonder what Matt thinks about this, especially after that raving review of the Lexus LC500.
GoogleLeaveMyNameAlone BMW is probably the better car.
Nothing against Lexus, but BMW is on another level regarding performance
@@MrBigL100 BMW higher than Lexus?
@@MrBigL100 the lc500 was never a performance car, its gt car and id say a better gt than this
jon candelaria A gt is a performance car in a different way. It has to be fast and also comfy. + bmw handles better.
German manufacturers are still a small step ahead of Japanese brands
Ppl who have money to buy LC500 can buy second car, more sportier, hothatch or something lightweight.
And if 500hp in luxury GT is not enough for somebody, just bc somwhere, there is a faster car, i think he or she should visit doctor.
For me Lex is better.
Apple car play is an $80 subscription a month or a year?
Mozart Lalanne per year.
Wow Zack, that truck in front of you really messed up your concentration!😃👍🏻
E31 for life.
Adjust the temperature like you're going through withdrawals Zack?.. what an inside comment to make?.. hey sometimes I need a little something I can feel too LOL
Very watchable 👏
With regard to competition; remember BMW is playing games with this name. This is not really an 8 series. More properly called at 6 series
Really disappointing to be honest, this was an opportunity for an excellent car. Instead they made a bloated, poorly proportioned heffer.
I would say this is a distinct class below the S class, which is right as you say, given this is really a 6 series.
I think that Bangle 6 series looks better by the year.
HEY! SORRY ABOUT THE TYPO'S {TIRED EYE'S CAN DO THAT! ) BUT THE GIST IS THERE!
I too didn’t think the seats were comfortable. Fun car though.
I didn't even knew there was a "regular" 850i
Something you will never see in Belgium, here it's either m850i, or 840d.
is there a regular 850?
He lost me when he said the front tires are 235's😉
2:25 bill burr is that you?
lmao spot on
Gesture control was a gimmick on smartphones. In a car it's worse.
Aside from direct button manipulation and "clicking" icons, most phone controls ARE gestures. Swipes, pinches, etc. I also use gestures in web browsing on my PC. Speeds up browsing by fractions of a second, but the primary benefit is intuitive control of simple functions (the key here is being able to set those functions and gestures yourself).. Any system that uses a 3D space for gestures is kind of awkward, and usually allows little (if any) customization. But to be fair, I think that motion controls are awkward gimmicks in general.Any any control that requires waving your phone around is asking for problems. I almost threw my Switch trying to use motion controls in handheld mode. Never again.
@@Gandalf721 If you cant reach the dash, you are sitting too far away. Move you seat up.
It's stunning in person and it's Fast with a capital F
I need a budget M850i.
Where's Matt?
Just remove the back seats to make to boot bigger.
Do the hellcat redeye
The front kinda looks like a cross of a Kia Stinger and a Ford Taurus
The best budget Bentley is a used Bentley. They depreciate like a rock thrown off a cliff.
And if you exchange that rock for an egg you'll have better luck putting it back together than a used Bentley ... there's a reason they're so cheap
While I love Matt Farrah's reviews, I clicked on this bc of the BMW and I wasn't disappointed
actually its a budget Rolls ROyce. RR uses a lot of BMW components... ummmm including the actual BMW engine.
Because bmw owns them and actually rr uses a v12
I shan't delay throwing away my Bentley to acquire one of these in a fortnight.
E53 has been out for a while and also it's not a competitor to this.
E63 for the same price is tough
No sunroof
The BMW CEO really liked the Infiniti q60 but wanted to stay loyal to the brand so he created his own q60😂
what about the hydraulic sway bars, the brake by wire system, the incredible brakes, the total rear bias in the xdrive, the incredible barking exhaust in sports plus, also the cooling package will cool the car so efficiently that it runs the oil around 190F even in the summer, also the tires are supposed to be bespoke bridgestones, the nice alcantara headliner and rear deck covering, the engine is a special version of the n63 w upgrades, etc etc.
Or a budget wraith actually
Am I e only one that likes the way this car looks? Could be because I'm not really a fan of BMW. All the typical BMW lovers seem to hate it.
Wonderful machine, bring back the v12
Pretty much a 6 series reincarnated as a 8 so they can charge more money. It is nice for 60-70k. Definitely not as distinctive as old 8 series. If I want a BMW flagship I still think i8 is it.
Nothing can be considered a bargain when you can get a C8 vette for $60k.
Rs6 avant /thread
Not a real M tho right?
No heater steering wheel? I had a 17 Cruze with a heated steering wheel. Better than a 850i? Probably
523hp my foot!!! That thing's got 560-570hp! BMW is talking shit!
Where is this Mustang comparison coming from? Shit, I like Mustangs. A Mustang with a luxury interior sounds great.
I'd say the lc500 looks way better inside
The shift lever is the new BMW, all gimmick no function, it can blind you in eye in certain circumstances with sun reflecting from it, all they need was black leather instead of gimmick glass whatever.
Where the hell is Matt?
