Brian Tan Porsche has to be hands down the most gouging manufacturer when it comes to options. Their options are EXPENSIVE and adding them will push the car’s price waaaay up. Also, not only does Porsche charge for things everyone else offers standard, they charge you to REMOVE THINGS. I adore Porsche, but wtf?

I remember watching this video 4 years ago and just thinking to myself wow this car is so cool and gorgeous, I wish I could afford one of those… fast forward 4 years later I bought one last week with 9k miles for nearly half of the cost when it was brand new. @@thezacharyburrabel I love it, bought it last August and it’s been amazing, comfortable, super fast, and so far reliable. BMW really got a bad reputation for reliability but the past few years I think they make a pretty solid product and you can see based on research and reports that they are somewhat one of the 5 top reliable brands

2:10 You still getting really excited about things like this is one of the many reasons me and others watch you. You review all these cars and still get excited about the most trivial things and its what makes you unique and awesome to watch. I feel bad for anyone who does not know of this channel.
He gets excited and then gives very low scores which often contradict what he just said and are highly subjective. The Doug Score is like that professor who believed nobody should get higher than a B in college so they adjusted all marks accordingly.
Don't get me wrong, I like Doug but I've stopped watching the scoring because it's pointless

Edit: and the infotainment system doesn't respond well to voice commands...additionally, it offers instructions without request, no way to "cancel" or "mute", inability to pair bluetooth, and only allows him input ports for the dongle once a year (on his birthday...& she is unconscious)

4:59 Doug, in order to turn on just cooled seats you have to completely turn off the heated setting on the screen and leave the cooled on. What you did was make one side of the seat cooled and the other side heated. You have to fully turn off either heated or cooled to get the full adjacent setting.
Seat heating says off for both seats, but the driver's is still showing 3 red bars. I don't get it.

If I've learned anything from Doug, it's that I've been climbing into the back of two door cars incorrectly my entire life.

I really don't understand BMW strategy! With the money this company has could build a truly and astonishing super car but instead.......I can't believe they have done such a horrible car, depending on the angle you are looking at, it looks like so many cars in one. This 8 series will be another failure because this car has no personality, no appeal at all. I really love Doug doing his reviews, he's funny, technical and very precise but this 8 series has no hope to be a success.

I have done an internship at some of BMW's factories in Germany and Austria.

Someone's getting a brand new BMW with Doug's fingerprints on the driver's vanity mirror.
I saw somewhere the reason for the recessed exhaust tips: reduced repair cost. If you get rear-ended with actual exhausts, you mess up the exhaust system and probably several things upstream like hangers and potentially cats. With this new way, it's just the bumper most of the time. Some euro law mandated that if I'm not mistaken.
You know when you forget the hold shift in Word when you want to scale something up and it gets horribly stretched out? Yeah.... You get the idea

Charlie Vetsworth the 5.0 mustang 2013+ (in my experience) has something similar where they allow the air flow from the throttle body to be audible in the drivers seat.

I have a 228i with the engine sound and here's my thoughts. I initially was thinking it's really dumb. Reading about it, BMW explained that people want quiet cabins and when you do that you cannot hear the engine so that's why they added that. Even with that I still thought it was dumb. Now I realize that it actually does add to the experience, even knowing it's not the actual engine sounds. Weird I know but after having the car for almost 2 years that's my thoughts on that.

That preset functionality (set anything, hover above the button) was already present in the E60 5series. Not sure about the pre facelift version, but the LCI variants had it.
I love it, it's actually a really useful feature.

Giant front seat, giant trunk, giant hood for a giant engine. Something has to give
gamecubeable Front seats I would describe as “normal”. Trunk, at 420 liters is smaller than in any Golf-sized car. Engine is not inline 12, so, not “Giant” by any means. Smells to me like poor engineering.

The new 8 Series has an all-new infotainment! It runs iDrive version 7, the F90 M5 still runs iDrive version 6. It would be awesome if you could make a separate tour of the new system.

I was extremely anxious as I own a 92 BMW 850i, V12. Looking at the new 8 I like my styling MUCH better. Now I will give it a chance and see it in person BUT via the video I am not impressed. Yes the performance is MUCH better than my 300hp but the lines of mine, shark nose, is killer.

We still have our red 1993 850ci. My brother bought it new when he took a ride in Easy E's '91. My brother was an engineering project manager at an audio equipment manufacturer. He was supervising an installation at Easy's company in '93 when he let my brother take his car for a spin. In exchange, Easy drove my brother's Bronco like a maniac up and down the road. My brother was probably the only educated white guy Easy knew :)

Unlock is the right word. Go and look in the manual what it does, it unlocks the gear lever when you start the car (like in all recent BMWs afaik). Always nice when you make fun of things you don't understand and don't even look for explanaitions, like it was with the 10 second waiting sign in the fuel cap some time ago.
Also the preset info showing by slightly touching the button is standard since I don't know when. Even my 2014 BMW has that.
Most likely a perfect car to drive, but disappointed by the looks. 8-Series has no expectations/recent legacy and I was hoping BMW would just go radical with the design like they did with the i8 and crazy futuristic interior. I mean, it is a 100k+ car. Alas, it looks like a very suped-up 6 series.

They've got like a billion weird unecessary angles and shit and it's just not what BMW is all about, BMWs are supposed to be subtle and clean in styling, like the E46, E34, E39, and the performance versions should just have some subtle clues like on the M235i and E46 M3 and such.
i8 should have has a modern s65 v10 engine and be called the M8 or M10
This should be a 9-SERIES or something else new...
THE *8-SERIES* was a one of a kind model by BMW for over 20 years...
There was only *ONE* 8-SERIES generation, which made it so special as a model!
This new model looks more like a 6-SERIES to be honest.
Sad that BMW messed up and took this route...

Why not put the V12 in the car when they already have it on the same platform with the M760? The issue with the weight distribution doesn't really matter in a car like this.

Primary market is Europe where the fleet emissions will come into play in a year or two.

Kia is Korean , not Japanese. Also, both Japanese and Korean car makers make rather stylish cars nowadays (see Mazda and Kia for example). Even Lexus lc500 (which is much cheaper than this Beemer) looks far more luxurious both inside and outside. BMW did have a Japanese designer back in the 1990s and he designed what's considered by many, the last good looking 5 series - the E39.
Still waiting for official blinker fluid for the car.
I'm just throwing this out, concerning the heated seats... try hold the button down to see if it goes into the 'cooling' function. If you get the possibility to try this out.

Unpopular opinion: Honda has a world class overall design with their 8th generation accord.
I daily drive a 2008 accord coupe. EX-L 2.4l. 170k miles, I've driven 70k of that... The only things I've had to buy maintenance-wise are tires, oil and a front headlight, two days after gaining ownership. Other than consuming oil (and a desire for slightly more vtec yo!), this will always be the best car I've ever driven. I've been lucky.
