@@foreverlv311 that’s why I said ‘not to take anything away from RMBS’. We know that they are serving members of the Royals & disturbed are not. It wasn’t meant as a criticism, just an if you like one version, you’ll probably enjoy the other version.

I've listened to both Disturbed and the marines version of the song so many times now.i love them both for different reason but the backing of the Musicians in both cases is brilliant

Absolutely sublime , I could listen to this young lady all day. She is superb singing brothers in arm too . The guitarist is second to none in that too. Not forgetting this young man. Makes me very proud to be British.

While I liked this version, I preferred both the Pentatonix and Disturbed versions far more.

I was in the US Army Band 1975-77. I had to listen to this thrice to try to be clinical without emotional influence. But each time my emotions grew more intense. The lyrics and voices of the low baritone and Alto singers in harmony were so powerful and nostalgic for me. It just blew my mind.

I don't know how you could listen to this and not be emotional. BdLCpl Sam McIndoe has the voice of an angel and Musn George Gessing has a command of the low end of the register that makes the foundations of the Earth tremble. These two sang an arrangement of I Vow to Thee My Country a few years ago that brings a tear to my eye whenever I hear it.

My late dad was a drummer and bugler in the Royal Marine band back in the 1950s and 60s. I wonder what he would have thought of their military version of this song (he was a Simon and Garfunkel fan). Personally I absolutely love it.

Wow. As a huge fan of the Disturbed version of this song, I love the way they took their version, added little bits of the original, and then built on it. Nobody can match David Dreiman’s incredible vocal, but this manages to bring the goosebumps too.

This is closer to the origenal. The original is a warning, Disturbed's version is anger that the warning was not heeded.

@@d283jdsk2 They very much are operational personnel, who specialize in medical/communication/Logistics/CBRN Decon roles and do deploy in those roles routinely, the singer here for example Band Lance Corporal Sam Mclndoe (now Band Corporal) is a veteran of Afghanistan (left medal is the Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan), the director has the General Service Medal (Likely for Northern Ireland) and the Iraq Medal, the RMBS have deployed on all major military operations and conflicts since the Great War, WW1, WW2, Korean War, Suez Crisis, Falklands, Iraq (Both Times) all major NATO actions Britain has been involved in and Afghanistan are just the ones of the top of my head I can think off, in WW2 a quarter of the whole RMBS had been Killed-in-Action by the end of the war the largest percentage of any branch of any service in the His Majesty’s Armed Forces.
I have listened to the band rehearsals for many years, they have maintained their mastery, absolutely fabulous

May 2024, and heard this version for the first time. I have played this video 3 times already. This rendition is simply genius. The harmonies are totally out of this world. I don’t enough words to describe how brilliant this version is. The best of the best. It is haunting me.

Where I criticized the female singer in the rendition of Led Zeppelins Stairway To Heaven for having song in an anonimous way, in this song she shows she has the voice. Fantastic performance!!!
Although not myself a special fan of Led Zepplin 'Stairway to Heaven' was a beautiful song. However, I always interpreted it as a record of somebody observing another in the throes of a drug ( heroin) induced death.
As it happens, when I was younger, I knew my neighbour who was about 80 (WW11 vet of North Africa and Italy) who was pre scripted morphine for pain in the year or so before he died. I used to buy him expensive bottles of Sotch when I went to see my mother every year.
I doubt he every drank any.

The male vocalist is baritone George Gissing. There's a good few RUclips videos of him performing. You'll find an excellent short video he did about the Deal bandstand bombing which killed many of his army musician colleagues.
Such a beautiful song and the duo singing it complement.each other are simply brilliant singer's with a lot of passion put into it from Belfast northern ireland
