I've carried this "cuteness" aspect to me my whole life that I haven't always been comfortable with - it has often felt like an "uncool" or immature part of myself, especially as I age [I'm now 27]. The idea presented here that it is, in fact, something I can embrace and make work for me as an adult, is...kinda low key making me wanna cry? I dunno, it's hard to explain. Thank you for this video.
@@Gabriellearrudadesign It really can’t be overstated how much it shifted my perspective! That I can have “cuteness” to me as a grown woman and it doesn’t make me childish. I used to go through phases of actively trying to change this part of myself, because it wasn’t the image I wanted. I was never successful, so I just became self-conscious. I was shy to embrace things like “cute” and “pretty” for a long time, but I think the concept of essences is a really helpful guide on how to find what best suits the individual, so you don’t feel out of place in your clothes.
@@beastghostt I totally agree! In my experience it can help you see the beauty in your uniqune traits and avoid the comparison to others' beauty. It's great to hit that self love/awareness
@dreamland but men talk down to cute women, and they get upset when a cute women is in power. E.g my female manager is cute and the men at work talk so much sh*t about her. Also, a lot of women are endeared by cute women, whereas they are not endeared by straight up sexy women such as Megan Fox who has mostly male fans. Whereas Ariana Grande has many female fans
I always disregarded ingenue because I'm tall and have a largeness to me but the most common compliments I receive are "you're so cute/adorable!" So I'm starting to think this is definitely a part of my blend!
Me, a woman who is 32 but is often mistaken for 17-22, who has a heartshaped face, far set green eyes with brown ring, and pulls off vintage, pastel and cute clothes, jewellry and balletcore: well... i do feel called out.
Gabrielle you are the first person who present the ingenue in a way that an adult woman can incorporate it in real life. 😅 pls offer services. You would make the life of many people a lot easier and happier
For years now I’ve been lowkey concerned about how I lean towards aesthetics that are more “cute” and “childlike”, I thought I had some form of arrested development 💀 so it’s very reassuring to know that it’s a normal thing for some women! I rarely feel drawn to more “sexy” / “mature” essences despite being 25 years old 😅 I think it just suits me best overall anyways. I look a lot younger than I actually am so whenever I do try to dress older than I am it just doesn’t look right lol
I am Romantic (kibbe wise) but my essence is mostly ingenue. It looked off when I was trying sexy stereotypical romantic outfits, because they didn't harmonize with my face. I can make them work only with heavier makeup that make me appear older. I think the stylists followed the same technique for Marilyn Monroe. She looked like a little doll at her younger pictures 😍
Same! I definitely look better dressing more ingenue but I’m definitely an hourglass figure but if I wear romantic style clothing it looks almost like I’m trying too hard!
@Trinity M idk if this is about me but you are tripping a bit. Especially the 'what else is about you?' and you thinking you're the only educated/deep person in this whole comment section. You saw a single comment and just assumed certain things about me/others without knowing absolutely anything for any of us. I am, in fact, a psychology student and I do know associations that can be created between a woman's looks and assumptions on her character. Actually that's not even about women, it happens with everyone. What does that have to do with this system however? Who told you it's about appealing to men? It's kind of sexist to assume that and for the record I'm not even straight lmao
I mean see this is where it gets hard… Like is there a way to dress casual as a romantic? 🧐 Why does nobody talk about this and give practical advice, its not a good idea to dress like a movie star all the time… That’s the issue I have with kibbe…
I used to think I was mostly romantic but this video confirmed my suspicions of being mostly ingenue. For example, despite worrying about moving into my 30's with nothing to my name I'm still getting lumped in with my middle school aged siblings, having a job interviewer check if I was the minimum age of 18 for a position, and I just made a shop owner's kid scared to sell me the cigars my stepfather asked me to pick up for him. Thankfully I'm a good judge of what looks good on me so my wardrobe according to this video is mostly gothic ingenue.
Please do all of the essences in this style format! I'm positive I'm a natural-romantic-ingenue blend (I'm just not sure what my percentages are). I often feel my best and think I look my best when I'm playful with outfits. I love wearing warm colors that are bright, easy flowy fabrics, shapes that hug my curves. I'm cute and youthful, but also mature and womanly. I either come across as very warm and welcoming or sensual. Usual reactions form people are mixed depending on the style I prefer to wear that day. I find myself relating more and more to Scarlett Johansson, since I'm a Soft Natural in Kibbe's format.
I plan to! I go over (at the end of the video) how to narrow down the percentages, it ends up being the easiest to test out a singular essence at at time and see who much of an outfit based on that essence you can do. And then I break down the general percentages after that. Scarlett Johanson sounds like a great style icon for you with all that overlap in categories.
I’m the same 3 essences! I wish you lived nearby so we could critique our outfits.I just wrote a comment saying that it’s not about taking an ingenue blouse with a romantic skirt and natural accessories. It’s about blending all three essences in each item and creating a cohesive whole. And that takes a while to learn. This video helped me out so much. I have a question. Have you found out what are your best hairstyles? I’m struggling with that because it’s hard to be objective.
@@BbGun-lw5vi is you hair better in a tight updo, let down straightened, curled or air dried. Which one makes you fall in love with your face without including your body? I suppose photos show more than a mirror you are used to looking at every day
People always says I'm 3 years younger than I actually am + I feel like a kid going through their mother's closet when wearing sexy or maturer looks....this explains a lot! Thank you ^^
DUUUUUUDE. What i was previously interpreting as Romantic essence in me was actually Ingenue. I don't personally see anything "dollike" about my face, so I completely dismissed this one, but this got me thinking about how I know i give off a sort of naive vibe (im definitely the furthest thing from Dramatic even though i wanted to be one soooo bad). I actually love wearing little pigtails and my satin scrunchies that have a long flowy ribbon hanging off of them. The hair and makeup styles of the ingenue seem very compatible with soft classic on me. This was so helpful thank you.
I LOVE that it's so clear that you actually study this material and know your stuff. Other channels seem like they just regurgitate what they learned from Google (which tends to be inaccurate...) but I feel like I'm actually learning from you. And your editing is fabulous. You're definitely my favorite style channel! 💃🏻
as an asian girl i believe i and many of us (other asians) fall into this category lol, weirdly enough it’s uncomfortable to think of grown women mimicking child-like characteristics, but as an adult, i noticed we tend to naturally have those attributes even into adulthood (im turning 20 in a few months and still get mistaken for a hs student)-thank you for the video :))
thank you for discussing how all this stuff isnt a personality test! im in my 20s but am really petite, with a round face and big eyes that hasnt changed since i was a child. as an ingenue essence and romantic body type, i feel like people have ‘personalities’ attributed to that that are hard to apply in the real world. i have a more confident, leader-like personality, and it was reassuring hearing you say that was valid with this. i was never taken seriously because of this ‘ingenue essence’, and im happy i found people online that separate how we look with how we act. thanks for the breakdown as always!
I have the same issue with not always bring taken seriously because I look (much) younger than I am. It's very annoying but aside from making sur my outfit look professionnel and my attitude there's nothing I can do against the prejudices in people's minds.
@@elisa4620 yeah ive definitely come to terms with the fact that people will believe what they want and i shouldnt let that bother me. i like using these style guides and systems to help me find out what i love about myself and my body, and what i want to celebrate in my wardrobe and style
@@winniebee7561 I definitely relate so much ! I (most likely) have a romantic body type with maybe some aspects of gamine, I’m not certain, with a cutesy innocent face. People often say I look quite a bit younger than my age, I overall have this very innocent, cute, delicate, harmless, borderline kiddy or whimsical sometimes look to me so people (men 🙄) tend to assume I’m incapable of defending myself or take it upon themselves to do things for me because they don’t think I’ll manage or something. Thing is though, I have quite intimidating intellect, I’m very witty and sharp, I tend to be very business-like and cold in formal environments, I’m extremely reliable and helpful to others, I’d even say I’m kinda charismatic. It’s kinda wack seeing how people go from thinking I’m this sort of useless porcelain doll to not even wanna argue with me because they know they won’t win 💀
While I am not an ingenue, I love how detailed the video is with all the examples. As a person of colour I also love that the people you use as examples are diverse, which is something I feel many other creators miss. Looking forward to the next one!
I learned a few months ago Im a soft classic with ingenue essence. I was soooo suprised! I always thought I was a romantic! I , never identified with the classic type at all and had never even heard of essences! I’m 41 years old and my essence is probably about 90-95% ingenue. I have a gentle playful manner and I learned recently, all my coworkers thought I was in my late 20’s. I often meet people I think are “old” but then learn they are actually younger than me! Even upper management forgets I’m their age! Cool for me , however I’m also gentle and not a driven, self promoter, so I often get treated in a thoughtlessly dismissive manner and overlooked by others. I’m generally viewed kindly and am well liked. People often confide in me, because I’m seen as safe. At times, I feel self conscious of my affinity for bows, pastels and miniatures. No one ever uses the word “immature” to describe me, but I do have a doll collection I usually don’t talk about …😏 I’m trying to better understand my soft Classic nature, my essence and how they relate to each other. I want to be me, but still be taken seriously and respected.I want to live gracefully with dignity. Thanks for the informative video. I really enjoyed the visual examples of outfits and people, the comparisons, and explanations!
I've heard of creating an effect, but to hear you validate that you can choose to dress with harmony or juxtaposition really resonated for me. I'm drawn to hyper feminine, girly styles (as you can see in pfp) and while I can "suit" more severe looks, it doesn't seem to fit with who I am as a person and the vibes I want to give off.
I have an ingenue essence in my face, with a round face/cheeks/nose and soft bone structure, but there’s a bluntness to my jaw and my body is definitely more of a soft natural. I’ve always looked best in feminine, innocent looking clothes with waist definition and some flowing fabric. Thank you for the in depth explanation!
16:30 the middle outfit is actually very similar to what i wore on valentines day only the top was blush pink to match my autumn colour palette and honestly, i loved how i looked in that outfit so i'm starting to get the idea that i have a romantic body shape with ingenue in my face but theres still something missing so i'll keep an eye out for that
I'm a deep winter with ingenue essence. I am often confused as a kid at 20. I was hoping I could look more badass and cool but I'm going to stick to my true essence. EDit: it is so hard to dress in small flower prints when I am a deep winter ahah but I look so good in non pattern clothes with lace and cottage core coquuete vibes. So always try to look into the big picture
I wasn't sure if my essence was ingenue until you mentioned the bows, the makeup and the taste for vintage fashion, I felt very identified! But I also realized that I usually look more mature, even when I use ingenue accessories. Maybe another one of my essences is romantic. Dresses that follow the curves of my body, fabrics like lace or velvet suit me very well and enhance my romantic silhouette (my Kibee ID is romantic), but I also like to add details like bows, small and delicate accessories since the whole image of "strong sexy woman" doesn't suit me so much. It feels like my image is more like a "sexy delicate" if that make sense. I think my essences would be romantic, ingenue, and classic, but I'm not sure about the percentages. pd: sorry if my english is bad, I'm still learning. Also, I love your channel!!
This helped me so much! I get mistaken as a 12 year old sometimes because of how young my face looks. I thought that because I looked so youthful and sweet on the outside that it must mean I have an Ingenue essence, but when I wear ingenue dominant silhouettes, colors, and proportions, I look horrible. I'm a Romantic Kibbe type and I find I end up looking like an adult dressed up as a child for Halloween when I dress for the ingenue essence. I think my 3 main essences are Natural-Classic-Romantic.
For more information on ingenue makeup, may I suggest looking into East Asian makeup styles? Like the ulzzang (this may be a little outdated but still checks out) or the douyin makeup. They place a lot of emphasis on cuteness, but if you look at the right places, they can be sexy and alluring as well. Any ways, another great video! I’m SC with ingenue essence, plus gamine and maybe some dramatic. This is really helpful
@@Gabriellearrudadesign Of course! I also forgot to mention Dear Peachie does a lot of Asian style makeup but the principles still applies to ingenue as well :)
Yeah i remember being drawn to this makeup even though I am not East Asian. I have a very ingenue face and it felt difficult finding makeup looks that weren’t more on the dramatic side all together. The East Asian makeup does a good job of blending the two so it doesn’t look like you’re make yourself look like an entirely new person.
finding out about east asian make up changed my life 😭 i used to feel so insecure and hated putting make up on because i didn’t look good with it and i thought make up just didn’t suit me but it was just bc i couldn’t pull off western make up which kinda sucks because i love the dramatic smokey eyes n red lip looks
I always was scared of this essence until YOU described it - now I’m accepting it because it’s all things I loved my whole life and was scared to show to the world.
I was professionally analyzed by Kitchener. He gave me a lot of Romantic and no Ingenue. But, I'm sure I am the reverse, a lot of Ingenue and no Romantic. He only asked for one photo of me without make up and another close-up of my eye for the color analysis. I feared it wasn't enough so I sent him another photo in which I happened to be wearing a red dress and red lipstick which may be what influenced him toward Romantic. The print and cut of the dress were Ingenue, though, and that's why it worked on me. He'd calculated my essences before our Zoom appt, but once he saw me on Zoom he did a hard double take, stopped everything and went back over his notes, furrowing his brow for a long time. I suspect he wanted to change the Romantic to Ingenue, but was maybe too embarrassed to admit he'd goofed. I have very full apple cheeks and my mouth is child-like small. Small flowered prints look like they were made for me while anything Romantic makes me look like I'm playing in my mother's clothes. When I was 42 a man asked me what high school I was attending, and no, I wasn't wearing a little dress. I was in jeans and a t-shirt. When I was thinking about getting a master's degree in Marriage and Family Counseling I went to talk to the head of the department about it. He took one look at me and tried to steer me toward Child Counseling. I love children, but it really hurt to be assumed to be too youthful or childlike to counsel adults. Adults who actually know me have always said I have a lot of depth and wisdom and am an "old soul." It is a curse to be an adult or an old soul who looks like a child, but it's wonderful to have videos like this to teach us how to embrace it and work with it. I've also had people tell me all my life that I seem very "ethereal," but Kitchener didn't give me any ethereal. When I asked him why he said ethereals were all super skinny and almost anorexic. I wasn't overweight at all, but I wasn't skinny enough to be ethereal according to him. Again, I believe he made a mistake and admire that you saw the ethereal in someone who has some real substance to her. Honestly, I think you have a better understanding of the essences than he does. He told me he really struggled to learn them.
Wow!! Now I know why he typed Scarllet Johansson as ingenue and Marliny too. I never agreed bcs altough they look feminine, they don't look like kids or people wouldn't say" Scarllet is soo cute" she looks mature,I say that bcs I see really ingenue people around me,it seems like westerners don't really know what ingenue is.... (not all,the youtubers and bloggers,I discover when they choose a celebrity as example) for example, Gabriela says that the ingenue in Taylor Swift comes for round eyes, but, she don't have round eyes at all!! The ingenue really comes from her upper lip which is thin and goes inward, and from her short midle third. Actual, ingenue comes in many ways. Round face, soft high set eyebrows (light in coloring)etc. So,many people are a mix bcs people are complex,if you wanna know more I highly recommend dear peachie, a channel here on RUclips, at least the teach what makes a eye looks rounder, sharp nose, etc. Bcs often the content creators don't explain what are round lips, etc.
I have spent a lot of this year embracing my ingenue essence and it has revolutionised the way I dress. I don’t look like I’m trying too hard. I get compliments because it’s so much easier to dress in my vintage experimental style. I really appreciate videos like this because it adds more ideas for thought.
I was thinking “I wonder how this will pair with soft gamine, cause this sounds like me!” Then you said “tailor made for the ingenue style” and it just solidified everything I’ve been researching for months😂 thank you!
I definitely think my main essence is ingenue with a romantic secondary essence. I’m 24 and everyone thinks I’m younger than I am but I still feel like I can lean into that romantic seductress kind of vibe/style and it not look too stuffy. I actually prefer that kind of style on me. As long as it’s not skin tight I’m good! I didn’t think I had a ingenue essence but this video made it very clear that I do. ♥️
Yes please, do romantic essence next. I am split between romantic and ethereal essence with a dash of ingenue. I don't see the romantic essence in me or doubt I have romantic essence because I don't see the mature sensuality in my face. But I find a lot of romantic clothing looks great near my face, especially the fabrics recommended for romantics essence.
I'm a Kibbe Romantic and have both Ingenue and Romantic essence, but more Ingenue. That's why I look so young. It's nice to have an explanation for it.
I’m 63 but the Ingenue essence really makes sense as part of my “blend” (maybe classic - ingenue - dramatic). Thanks! This clarifies something I couldn’t find in Kibbe.
Despite that I have been indentified by Kitchener and have recivied a counseling by him, I love the details you have out in the video. I also really like the details with makeup and hair.
Love this video! I was typed by John Kitchener as 50% Youthful, 30% Romantic- with dark brown hair, brown eyes, and at 5’8! Getting typed is sooo worth it. 💗 I also might add that I am 70% Striking Contrast- so I dress as a Youthful Romantic with high contrast and jewel tones.
I think Ruth Radelet (from Chromatics) is a perfect example of Ingenue. Flouncy, babydoll dresses look like they were made for her, and even at 40 years old she still looks like a teenager! Also, I've been binging your videos the past few days; you do such a great job of explaining the essences!
Your videos helped me figure out my type and essence blend. The "essence is face" and "type is body" distinction REALLY helped me! Love your content :)
Thank you for including the kibbe ID examples! I'm a soft dramatic but with this specific essence so I often feel like my body and face clash. Not to mention, I'm a dark winter, so I can't even pull off pale pastels.😫 Love the video! ❤️
i have the same thing going on (SD and deep winter) but not so much with ingenue but gamine, but yeah definitely youthful. i am turning 30 next year and got asked for my ID when i was buying beer (which is legal at 16 where i live...:D:D) this video really helped me: ruclips.net/video/4jKauiETt7I/видео.html (title: Soft Dramatic (?) Taylor LaShae Hair Style and Essence Exploration)
As I’ve been exploring style theory to improve my shopping/thrifting choices, I’ve felt frustrated and trapped by categories that I’m sure don’t entirely fit me. It’s been a relief to find your friendly, supportive open encouragement of prioritizing personal style over rigid conformity💖 Thank you!!✨
Here to learn how the 20% of my essences would look like 😌. Guess I figured it out now. Most of the ingenue essence on me probably comes from my wide eye part and my fleshy cheeks. But since I'm also 50% dramatic and 30% romantic, the ingenue vibe is not the one that is dominant. So, no bouncy dress or ballerina shoes for me, they are weird. Small scale flower patterns are nice if it's on the more vintage side. Small jewelries are also fine, but no ribbons. Ingenue makeup is only fine on the pink blusher look because of my fleshy cheeks. But the eye makeup should lean more romantic (I got medium-heavy hooded eyes) and lips makeup can lean either romantic or dramatic. The skin makeup should always be dramatic because of my high contrast mix with a kind of a natural sleepy look on my face, so no dewy skin look for me, that'll be a disaster.
I just wanted to throw this in because of the character's age but I got Ingenue vibes from Carrie Louise in Agatha Christie's novel They Do It With Mirrors. She's an old woman but everyone, including her grandchildren, seem to guard her overly trusting nature and constantly call her "untouched". She still has agency though and isnt written as an invalid by any means. I would really recommend the book if anyone is interested.
I can't say how much I love how THOROUGH you have been with these videos. Keep up the good work! I have been typed by John Kitchner as 35% Natural, 30% Romantic, 25% high-spirited (Gamine), and 10% youthful (Ingenue). Having FOUR essences had me scratching my head of how to put it all together in a look. I used it in my workplace outfits in my headbands or hair bows. I was a dental hygienist for a lot of years and had to wear a black uniform. Many of my patients thought I was a lot younger than I actually was. Once I retired, I cut my hair shorter and have no need for those items... what to do... I finally realized it either comes out in an earring or light gloss. I can't wait to hear your Gamine deep dive. That's what I think my Kibbe ID is. I think that video will finally help me see how put it all together:) I love everything Ingenue, but I have to keep it very toned down on my body. I can still have plenty of flowers and fine china in my house to help me with that fix.
This was enlightening! I wouldn’t have thought this was part of me but now think it might. I have rejected and tried to compensate for “cuteness” because I want to be taken seriously. When it’s all said and done, I think I’m a natural, classic, with a bit of ingenue - maybe 45/35/20. But I’m not sure if I’m a soft natural or soft classic in Kibbe. They’re the only ones I could possibly be. 🤷🏼♀️
This is CRAZY! I've known about this essence long before I ever knew about these systems since it's such an iconic look (Monroe, Scarlett - I've just always understood this innately as a vibe), but I've always dismissed it being ME. I've never thought I was "cool" enough for it, that I could pull it off. Here I am staring in the mirror with a round face, wide-set eyes, bow lips, small general features, youthful glow (I'm 30 and no one ever believes it), and naive vibe....I have no idea how I missed it! This is a game changer for me, thank you. I've even always preferred baggy clothes because "fitted" clothes (like the sharp dress shirt you showed) have always looked AWFUL on me, and I just didn't know I liked baggy clothes because of the SOFT EDGES! Gah.
I struggled so much with learning to incorporate my ingenue essence into my blend. I'm an SD: tall, narrow, slender, curvy -- my figure is dead ringer for Monica Bellucci's. Although I'm so tall & womanly, I still get "oh, you're so cute/adorable/innocent looking!" from people straining their necks to look up at me. My essence blend something like Romance-Classic-Dramatic with a hint of Ingenue. Although the Ingenue in my blend is so tiny, I still look slightly lost if I don't account for it. Your video has helped figure me realized how to incorporate it. Becuase my other essences are more mature, I can get away with "Ingenue colours" (pastels & and other bright colours) & dainty gold jewellery. I have to be careful with incorporating Ingenue textures (light coloured lace) & small-scale patterns/prints -- those can be hit or miss, but small florals, houndstooth, & polka dots always work on me. I can't get too cutesy or I will look like a grown woman dressing like a littke girl.
Your videos have really helped me define my essence better. I think I have a dominant romantic essence, with some classic and ingenue steeped in. It would explain why I can look very young or in my early twenties depending on how I push for it. People always have a lot of trouble determining my age. I do think I might have some angelic as a fourth essence but it would also explain some things.
it's crazy how much these types of videos have changed the way i shop and look at clothing. it is so liberating to know what looks good. at the very least, you can understand the crop of things. i'm definitely an ingenue. though i learned how to dress as a "gamine", the femininity of the ingenue essence however is much more flattering with my round features, rather than the "boyishness" of the gamine
wow my english is horrible lol i just woke up, but another huge change is i can no longer wear black!!!! wow!! i guess that has to do with color theory as well (seasons). light colors bring me to life! i discovered that this summer. took me 22 years to see it! :) at least im still young
The combo with Kibbe IDs section was really helpful. And please do romantics next! Hairstyles that are less high maintenance would be especially useful
This is the best video that I’ve seen on the essences! Thought I was romantic and felt uncomfortable with the idea….this video made me have a better idea of how I can embed ingenue with the romantic body type.
I wasn't sure if this was my essence, because I'm not into the tiny florals, cottage, miniatures at all. I downloaded the chart from your website. 12/18 Ingenue! I think I just need to blend it with my soft natural Kibbe which is a little more flowing. I may have a little classic in the mix. You knocked it out of the park on this series. You put so much work into the editing. You should have 6-digit subs very soon and should have 1M.
I feel like my body is soft natural and i have a bit of ingenue in my face because even though i have a bigger nose and thick/dark eyebrows, i still give off a youthful/cute look and ingenue makeup looks best on me imo
I think I'm a theatrical romantic in Kibbe With ingenue and ethereal in Kitchner And a true summer for color analysis. So everything ties together. I do look better in sorter, softer clothes with small dainty accessories. And in soft, muted colors. Ps. I love Mary Jane shoes.
I just want to say. Thank you for showing so many ethnicities and body types. The last creator I watched for this topic only showed the basic celebrities from the same ethnicity …in the same ultra skinny body shape and it made everything very confusing.
SO helpful. I really appreciate your outfit examples that blend kibble with the essence system. Super illustrative. And I love that you give outfit examples for everyday life. I’m getting so much out of your videos and website-they’re really helping me learn how to dress my body type.
I’m so happy I discovered your videos and your excellent explanations of these different essences! It’s quite striking to me how much more “at home” I feel when you’re talking about an essence I have verses one I don’t. I haven’t been professionally typed, but I feel quite confident in saying I’m a romantic-ingenue-ethereal blend (still determining percentages and what’s most dominant, but knowing they all exist is the first step!) This really does help me embrace things I’ve felt insecure about before and feel more comfortable and confident in my skin than I did before. Thank you so much!
I really appreciate your channel and your approach to style. I am a Soft Gamine and have many ingenue features, from height to build to parts of my face. But pastels and frills and delucate fragility have never been appealing to me, I always rebelled against this perception of myself because it does not reflect who I am as a person. It's freeing to see you approach Kibbe and Kitchener's systems as tools and not gospel Although even if it was gospel, I'd rather look bad and discordant to others than feel bad and discordant in my clothes
Thank you! I couldn't use Kibbe - couldn't tell if I'm gamine/soft/romantic. Ingenue fits me AND my style perfectly. I wear headpieces with flowers, love short dresses (I'm short too 😂) with small prints, pastel colours or vintage shape. Now I think I've got mostly ingenue as primary essence, gamine secondary and soft or romantic as the smaller part of my essence. I actualy have a lot of ingenue outfits shown in this video in my wardrobe 😂. So thank you for validation.
Wow! This is very helpful! I'm Ingenue in height! But having dark hair and very dark brown eyes me thinks, well, it has been my personal style, personal preference and that is romantic. So, John Kitchner putting Marilyn in this category and you saying we can be both Ingenue and Romantic is such a huge relief! And I love her! Love her style! Everything that's feminie! THANK YOU!
This was most validating. Had the opportunity to be mis-typed as one of the Gamines on one of the style-typing subs due to the presence of Dramatic overpowering my Ingenue.
This video helped me understand my ingenue essence so much more! As someone with a romantic body type and ingenue essence it’s been hard trying to blend the two 😢 With your videos I’ve gotten a better understanding on how to accomodate my romantic figure (and some essence) into my ingenue essence (my dominate essence)
Romantic next please!!!!! 💗 I really appreciate at the end how you show the gradual progression to including the essence in a look with outfits on you. I love the whimsical beginnings so so much in your videos, they are so fun!
I'm a soft classic kibbe type and was unsure about my essence. This video definitely clarified for me that the ingenue essence was the missing piece! That's why pure classic essence outfits seemed a tiny bit "empty" on me. I was missing the intricate detail and small scale embellishments of the ingenue. I was scared about trying on lace and puffy sleeves and vintage styles because I was afraid I would look like a grandma, but this video makes me feel I can pull off cuteness instead! Love it 🎀
This is so complete ;) you really covered everything. I feel a little too heavy for a soft look head-to-toe, but every ingenue detail around the face looks just right. I surely have more than 50% of this essence.
i would LOVE an in depth video about theatrical romantics and how each essence presents in them bc i feel like they are one of the least talked about kibbe types
You describe the essence so well, the best description on RUclips. I love how much work you put into your videos, so very helpful, thank you. I'm soft gamine and i think I have an ingenue essence. I have been told many times I have a baby face , I look so young , I look like a doll , I look like a bratz doll (I never knew how appropriate the bratz doll comment was until getting into kibbie and training my eye, I literally look like a real life bratz doll from head to toe 😂 even to my dress sense. Although my head looks tiny rather than large ) and many, many times told I should be a Disney princess 🤣. I am the description of ingenue on this video, other than I don't have wide apart eyes or a wide or bulbous forehead and I have a diamond face shape ,although it is soft and rounded, which always confused me when looking into the ingenue essence. I think I have a high percentage in romantic essence which also added to the confusion. I have a softer romantic look by the meeting if Romantic and Ingenue bringing the same vibe to my face as Marilyn monroe. I think I'm Romantic , ingenue and gamine with some small level of dramatic. Ingenue doesn't really fit well into my personal style or DA colour season . I have 2 summer dresses that are "flouncy" tea dresses above the knee that work well but they have some level of romantic essence to them too . I can imagine Marilyn's light blue dress looking really lovely on me.
I have a slightly different request. Could you do a video on how someone who is a kibbe romantic or theatrical romantic can wear things like preppy clothing which is very precise in its fit traditionally? Romantics are usually told to wear more feminine, body skimming fabrics. However, Preppy clothing is the opposite of that. So how would a theatrical/ romantic make it work if the aesthetics they prefer go against what suits them?
Maybe look at halter tops or button downs with princess lines, city shorts or pleated tennis skirts? Things that have enough structure to fit over curves, but fit in the style. Also accessories like stripes and plaid get the idea across quickly.
Thank you so much for such a detailed video. I consider myself ingenue romantic classic. Most of my outfits are full on ingenue. I got to excited at 20:24. I own that exact dress! I can’t wait to apply a lot of this advice.
There are situations where it's good to be compliant. We can't all be in charge. It's about knowing who to be compliant to. Also, some people are overly compliant because they are overly trusting and innocent. Which isn't a bad quality if they comply with a good person or learn to protect themselves and look out for red flags in others.
So I went into this very sure that I have ingenue essence (easy to identify because it annoys me, even though it's a small part of my blend). And I have to say I got some good ideas for how to work around it in a way that fits my personality but isn't just pretending it isn't there. I particularly appreciated the bits about contrasting and adding maturity! (For reference, I'm mostly natural and dramatic, with ingenue as my third piece. Other people notice it way more than I do, but that may just be my attitude getting in my way)
I must have this one because I can’t go a day without someone calling me cute and thinking I’m in my mid teens. Edit: omg no way…my style is changing rn to be EXACTLY what is recommended for ingenue…woah. Feels like I got my fortune read or something
I LOVE that you incorporated kibbe + essences and gave outfit ideas for each. I'm fairly certain i'm a soft natural in kibbe, and I know I have a natural essence as my primary. I have a baby face so I suspect I MIGHT have some ingenue essence but my face is probably the only thing contributing towards that essence (so maybe it's a tertiary one?). Not sure what my secondary one would be - maybe classic?
Thank you for taking your time and making this. I feel like I finally understood some things about my style and type that I previously had to ignore in order to make sense of it all x)
A video on what to do if your body type and essence clash heavily would be super appreciated :) My main essence is ingenue and I love leaning into the playful, youthful style! I love flower patters and "girly" cuts. But my body type is definetely natural, with wide shoulders and ribcage, long skinny legs, very straight hips and barely any visible waist definition. Any and all advice for how to lean into the strengths of essence and kibble type are always 100% opposite here.
I'm so excited to find about this!!! Now I get why I kinda saw myself in Park Boyoung, her looks had a different vibe than other celebrities and I identify with her, she had made BAD wardrobe choices in the past... but I couldn't put my finger on WHYYY and tried to discover it myself but failed. and those moments came to my mind when you said....' this doesn't look as good'' ''let that to other essences...'' . It makes sense for me now. So fun !! after watching the video I can clearly see why she and I have the same ''essence''... Also about the compliant part lol... as an ingenue dominant essence I don't mind being perceived as ''compliant''. Actually I like it, it's very femenine in the eyes of guys, well at least the guys I like for me☺
Woow your videos connecting these theories to life. Thank u so much. And very creative videos. I've just explored some of your videos. Very creative and understandable.
I am really impressed by your videos. You explain well the concepts, it’s not things we’ve heard thousand of times, it’s practical and well thought advices. And the editing and visual aspect, as well as the example are so on point. I could listen to you for hours. My sisters is soft dramatic with ingenue essence, she’s a little lost in her style and this videos could help her. I would love to see the natural essence video. I have another video suggestion : a detail video on “how to create a head to toe look” because it’s a concept that comes often when talking about kibbe and other typing systems but it’s never explain thoroughly. And I think it’s really an essential point to a good outfit.
I understand the compliant to a certain extent. Like someone with a lot of ingenue essence looks the opposite of intimidating, which doesn't say anything of their actual personality or ability to stand for themselves, it's just the vibe. I actually realized I have ingenue essence and it explains why people have always underestimated me in that department. I know I look "approachable" (I prefer that adjective), which combined with my introverted nature makes a lot of people assume I'm naive or just don't think I have a strong character. Which is misleading sometimes but well. I know that I will never look intimidating or bold because that's just not in my appearance, no matter how much I try or how offended I feel. That's why I think this system is so helpful, because it can guide me to work with what I already have instead of trying to look differently.
This could explain why I failed miserably when I tried to be intimidating 🫠 I’ve grown into it thank goodness but occasionally I still wish I could be scary!!
Thank you so much for the video! People have always mistaken me for way younger than I am, and I feel like I subconsciously look for outfits that are more classic and darker colors to combat that. I will try some of your outfit ideas! Thank you :)
This is hilarious because I'm 90% of the literal time looking exactly like you here Gabrielle. Long braids, nearly all my blouses are some iteration of this one. Being matched with kibbe was an odd experience. Funny enough I only wanted to know my "answer," I've continued to wear the pigtails and romantic peasant look lol. My face is heart shaped, fairly full lips, very round eyes, and I'd never heard of that ring around the pupil but I checked and sure enough!
oh my god, my best friend told me not so long ago "girl, you are as delicate as china" In a totally different context. I immediately knew this was me in the prior video I watched. I am SO glad I found you. I watched all of Aly's Kibbe videos and thanks to her I know I am a soft classic. and although her tips matched my appearance completely, it seemed as though it reflects only one aspect of my personality. something was missing and this is exactly it. Now I need to find out the other essences which are less prominent. I am gravitating towards Natural and Classic. girl, this is the best way to spend my day off. thanks so much for your valuable and fun input to this platform. Big hug from Israel :)♥♥♥
I'm so glad that it's helped your embrace yourself! Thank you for sharing this, it's really exciting and inspiring!
@dreamland true
The fabric weight conversation is underrated. When I started paying more attention to this I started to make more consistently beautiful outfits
Totally! It’s such a critical factor imo
I always disregarded ingenue because I'm tall and have a largeness to me but the most common compliments I receive are "you're so cute/adorable!" So I'm starting to think this is definitely a part of my blend!
Same 😊
Talvez seja o seu rosto e aura
Elle Fanning has a lot of ingenue and she's pretty tall.
I’m exactly the same. My figure should look awesome with sexy outfits. But my face is too ingenue for them.
Me too; the body is voluptuous, but my face didn't get the memo :o)
A video on romantic essence would be great!! It's a highly misunderstood essence.
I totally agree!!
@@Gabriellearrudadesign Yes please!
For sure! I know for me it’s hard to figure out the nuances between a romantic essence vs romantic kibble types
@@evilmissmunchkin I also struggle between the two.
Way too few people are doing essences, and I love rich and elaborated content.
Thank you Gabrielle! 💚🌈🌈🌈💘💘💘💅💃💚
@@Gabriellearrudadesign That part at the end was wonderful!
Wow, thank you so much. This comment made my day🥰 I really appreciate it
Fully agre with you!I purchased Gabi's course- best investmen of the year!

as an asian girl i believe i and many of us (other asians) fall into this category lol, weirdly enough it’s uncomfortable to think of grown women mimicking child-like characteristics, but as an adult, i noticed we tend to naturally have those attributes even into adulthood (im turning 20 in a few months and still get mistaken for a hs student)-thank you for the video :))
Might be neoteny and or some ethnic genetic variations is sexual dimorphism?

thank you for discussing how all this stuff isnt a personality test! im in my 20s but am really petite, with a round face and big eyes that hasnt changed since i was a child. as an ingenue essence and romantic body type, i feel like people have ‘personalities’ attributed to that that are hard to apply in the real world. i have a more confident, leader-like personality, and it was reassuring hearing you say that was valid with this. i was never taken seriously because of this ‘ingenue essence’, and im happy i found people online that separate how we look with how we act. thanks for the breakdown as always!
You're so welcome! And I say go be the confident leader, and rock whatever clothing you want👏
@Trinity M, gender studies is the issue. You do not understand what essences are about at all.
Im so glad this was helpful 😊
For more information on ingenue makeup, may I suggest looking into East Asian makeup styles? Like the ulzzang (this may be a little outdated but still checks out) or the douyin makeup. They place a lot of emphasis on cuteness, but if you look at the right places, they can be sexy and alluring as well. Any ways, another great video! I’m SC with ingenue essence, plus gamine and maybe some dramatic. This is really helpful
Very cool, that sounds like a great idea! Thanks👍
E hoje eles têm o vídeo sobre maquilhagem arquétipo
finding out about east asian make up changed my life 😭 i used to feel so insecure and hated putting make up on because i didn’t look good with it and i thought make up just didn’t suit me but it was just bc i couldn’t pull off western make up which kinda sucks because i love the dramatic smokey eyes n red lip looks
I always was scared of this essence until YOU described it - now I’m accepting it because it’s all things I loved my whole life and was scared to show to the world.
Thank u for sharing, that resonates very much with my style journey!
@@YumeraChauque the ingenue lip goes outward though, like a little lift between philtrum and nose
@KLD-es6ft as I said, it can come in many ways.
@YumeraChauque yes, I'm just talking about Kitchener really, where he has very specific traits assigned to each essence
Complaient I think is ussed as somebody easy to get along with, somebody that is more agreabile as a person
Glad it was helpful! And you can always add your own personal style to it like the romantic vibes.
Exactly the same 3 blends I think I am! I hope you find/confirm yours. ❤
I'm a Kibbe Romantic and have both Ingenue and Romantic essence, but more Ingenue. That's why I look so young. It's nice to have an explanation for it.
pretty sure my dominant essence is ingenue. so grateful for this video!
yay! glad its helpful!
I’m so glad!
@@GabriellearrudadesignThank you so much❤
Love this video! I was typed by John Kitchener as 50% Youthful, 30% Romantic- with dark brown hair, brown eyes, and at 5’8! Getting typed is sooo worth it. 💗
I also might add that I am 70% Striking Contrast- so I dress as a Youthful Romantic with high contrast and jewel tones.
10:06 This. Love how you cover this essence. The short dress, little prints and angular/chiseled cheek thing cleared it up for me.
I just looked her up and she basically looks like a cute doll. She really captures the ingenue essence perfectly
Maybe try a pale peach + olive green color combo? Aubergine also has an ingenue vibe imo
@@samanthamartin1407 that sounds pretty. I'll look into those colors!
i have the same thing going on (SD and deep winter) but not so much with ingenue but gamine, but yeah definitely youthful. i am turning 30 next year and got asked for my ID when i was buying beer (which is legal at 16 where i live...:D:D) this video really helped me: ruclips.net/video/4jKauiETt7I/видео.html (title: Soft Dramatic (?) Taylor LaShae Hair Style and Essence Exploration)
@@lemmings6516 thank you for the suggestion! I'll check it out
Yess, please do all the essences! This don't get talked about enough and you deliver such rich and complete videos
thank you so much!
As I’ve been exploring style theory to improve my shopping/thrifting choices, I’ve felt frustrated and trapped by categories that I’m sure don’t entirely fit me. It’s been a relief to find your friendly, supportive open encouragement of prioritizing personal style over rigid conformity💖 Thank you!!✨
You’re so welcome!
Omg I think you're the only fashion youtuber who included a hijabi example in style videos I feel heard and seen thank youuu 🥰
yes I'm an ingenue and I give compliant vibes and I am like this, no need to deny that.
Exactly!
:) at least im still young
wow... i kept watching and you touched on the color thing... incredible. thank you for your content. will check out more ingenue vids
Great!! Many people are affraid of abandon black but,not every color will suit u and thats ok.@@yeezy7751
The combo with Kibbe IDs section was really helpful. And please do romantics next! Hairstyles that are less high maintenance would be especially useful
Yes to the hairstyles! Please!
This is the best video that I’ve seen on the essences! Thought I was romantic and felt uncomfortable with the idea….this video made me have a better idea of how I can embed ingenue with the romantic body type.
No-nonsense style interpretation 💞
This is the best video I have ever seen on this topic!
Thank you!
Oh girl you are good at this! I’m
Shifting from kibbe to you. Or Kitchener if you like.
Feels like a match for me/part romantic that harmonizes with Soft Classic!
Thank you! That sounds like a good plan for mixing them 👍🏻😊
AHH this video made me realize so strongly that I'm ingenue-natural
I feel like my body is soft natural and i have a bit of ingenue in my face because even though i have a bigger nose and thick/dark eyebrows, i still give off a youthful/cute look and ingenue makeup looks best on me imo
I think I'm a theatrical romantic in Kibbe
With ingenue and ethereal in Kitchner
And a true summer for color analysis.
When you said compliant and spit out your cake I lost it haha . Bravo & thank you for sharing these essence videos !!!!!!!!!❤
I lost it too... because thinking compliant is bad is so offensive. It was not funny.
It's freeing to see you approach Kibbe and Kitchener's systems as tools and not gospel
Although even if it was gospel, I'd rather look bad and discordant to others than feel bad and discordant in my clothes
As someone with a romantic body type and ingenue essence it’s been hard trying to blend the two 😢
With your videos I’ve gotten a better understanding on how to accomodate my romantic figure (and some essence) into my ingenue essence (my dominate essence)
Love it 🎀
I’m just learning about the essences and this was awesome!
I think it has more to do with the shape of the clothing. Just like blazers can look feminine based on the shape of it and color.
Which dress? The pink one with little rosettes? It’s so gorgeous. Where can I find it? Thanks

There are situations where it's good to be compliant. We can't all be in charge. It's about knowing who to be compliant to. Also, some people are overly compliant because they are overly trusting and innocent. Which isn't a bad quality if they comply with a good person or learn to protect themselves and look out for red flags in others.
This this this
So I went into this very sure that I have ingenue essence (easy to identify because it annoys me, even though it's a small part of my blend).
Feels like I got my fortune read or something
i'm so impressed with your video. i love the history, examples and references :)
Thank you!
I can really see how much work and passion you put into your content, great video as always :)
Thank you!!
I’d love a video like this for all of the essences!! I love all of these detailed breakdowns so much
I'm so glad, I'm plan to do all the essences👍
A video on what to do if your body type and essence clash heavily would be super appreciated :)
My main essence is ingenue and I love leaning into the playful, youthful style!
Actually I like it, it's very femenine in the eyes of guys, well at least the guys I like for me☺
The intro killleeedd meee! So goodd!!❤️❤️❤️ Thank u !
Thank you!! I like to have fun with the intros 🙃
Woow your videos connecting these theories to life. Thank u so much. And very creative videos. I've just explored some of your videos. Very creative and understandable.
Gabrielle! I’m so psyched you have a new video. It always makes my day. Thank you for all of your hard work! Your videos are amazeballs.
That's a good idea! Maybe I'll work on a short, stand alone video about the head-to-toe concept. I appreciate this idea, thanks!
Such a great idea to do a video on the head to toe concept. I have a hard time with understand that in Kibbe.
@@EmL-kg5gn I feel you!
Also i would LOVE for you to explore the natural essence as well!
Thank you so much for the video! People have always mistaken me for way younger than I am, and I feel like I subconsciously look for outfits that are more classic and darker colors to combat that. I will try some of your outfit ideas! Thank you :)
i really appreciate your editing style
Thank you 😊
This is hilarious because I'm 90% of the literal time looking exactly like you here Gabrielle.
