Omg I think I’m a classic! I’ve always put minimal effort into makeup and jewelry. Pearl necklaces and earrings. White sneakers. I can make chunky jewelry rings, chunky shoes, color pops, and dramatic pants/skirts/tops work but they have to be offset by something smaller and simple like you described. My style has always been simple which I thought was boring but I get the most compliments and it just feels right. I’m honestly relieved. This is permission to embrace my essence and classic look without feeling boring and knowing that I can still work with trends but in ways that work for my essence.

After trying a full classic outfit I realized that going full on classic will make any other essence be more noticeable. For me it is ingenue, that's my predominant essence and if I dress classic without any ingenue accessory/hair/makeup, i look like a baby or a kitten wearing a suit 😂. I would say a huge tell is if you do a full classic look and still look balanced and proportioned, then you have classic essence.

@@JaneDoe-st3gi mine was a simple turtle neck, an structured blazer (not too structured nor slouchy), trousers and moderately heeled boots. All in neutral colors. For my color season it's grey, navy and black on the boots (since those are far away enough from my face). I wore very understated stud earrings, simple makeup and a classic bun.

Regarding the makeup, my conclusion is that the opposite is also the case: if you have classic essence, any bold or overly romantic makeup will look off on you. I am SD with strong Classic essence, combined with Dramatic and possibly Ethereal (still exploring that one). I look best with minimal makeup, I can wear a bright red lipstick, and that's enough for me, my eyes have to have a neutral and minimal makeup. My formal or night out makeup is what Dramatics would consider their makeup prep step :D

Likewise here. Mom was essentially a Classic, or at least that is how she dressed and how she taught me to shop for clothes. That throwing off of balance has been a challenge my whole life to the point that I have ignored "fashion" and style for decades. At this point, I believe I am predominantly Classic with a hefty measure of Romantic thrown in, and a possible touch of Natural.

I think updos look SO good with this essence. Seems like the classy, rich bish energy allows for this essence to have the hair up without looking like they are going to a ball or a runway. Even if the hair is shorter I think having a swooped bang with a tapered cut looks phenom! Def devil wears Prada vibes for sure. Great video, thx for posting these and always showing inclusion across the board.

Part of finding my essence has been observing my wardrobe over time. My tendency to hold on to something over time is highly dependent on how classic it is, which makes sense but took me a while to notice. I have a plain blue dress that I got when I was a teen and am still wearing 15 years later. I always get complements when I wear it even though it’s one of the most “boring” items I have.

While I'm not a TR, I just want to say thank you for offering TRs an example of clothing that doesn't require cleavage display! I know many women feel alienated from recommendations that don't align with their values/preferences in this area, similar with women of Romantic essence that have preferences for more coverage. So I appreciate you helping these women feel less boxed-in to skin-exposure, as if any woman should feel 'forced' to bare more skin than she's comfortable with, just because her body or face gets 'typed' into one of the 'romantic' categories! So, thanks again for being inclusive to the diversity of women's beliefs and preferences in this area. While some women may want to wear less fabric, other women may want to wear more, and shouldn't be shamed or excluded for that.

My struggle was tshirts but I caught on that it overwhelms my frame and throws off my figure. I’ve always been drawn to simple, classic designs and patterns. Always drawn to balance. You’re right, I can tell when something is off about an outfit I’ve put together. Never have really second guess why I can do the least but still look put together and “vougue” with minimal effort (thankfully, I’m pretty lazy when it comes to shopping) I gravitate towards simplistic, buildable items, with a staple piece or pop of color but always minimalistic accessories. I always thought my head being so big was why I stray away from large earrings (though I did wear large plain hoops back in the day) or really curly hair but your explanation makes sense. It’s throws off my balance. I can’t handle a lot of heavy makeup. I believe a classics super power is our body. It’s our greatest accessory. Everything else just makes it pop.

I think my husband’s mom has a tooon of ingenue lol. She keeps her hair bouncy, fluffy, and blonde, and she wear a lot of lighter colors. Her tops usually have delicate details, like ruffles, pintucks, embroidery, eyelet, etc. For our wedding, she wore a half updo with little braids, and it was sooo cute. What a helpful video - and I enjoy your sense of humor! I am turning 70 this week but most people think I am about 50. I have always looked young and am 5' 1" tall. But I don't have the "spunky" essence of the gamine, don't have a big head, facial features are balanced, coloring is not high contrast. I think I have a classic essence, and am maybe a soft gamine? Or a soft classic? Also strong leanings of natural (outdoorsy, girl-next-door looks) and lifestyle (horses, dogs, hiking, beach, etc.). Right now my hair is a goldenish brown and down to my elbows. I tend to wear it back or braided, sometimes up, and have curtain bangs. Hair has always been my challenge (it is fine and mostly straight). I also love to dress in what I call an English Country style (tweeds, vests, wool or canvas jackets, boots). Trying to decide if I should bob my hair to just graze the collarbone? The classic thing of being balanced with little extraneous detail rings true (I look like I'm in a costume), as does the gamine thing of little girl wearing her mom's "classic" clothes. Still looking for that sweet spot! I'm now going to watch your natural and gamine essence videos. Would I be a classic at only 5'1"? Or a gamine with classic essence? Thanks.

Gabrielle, thank you!! I feel like my comment made Classic essence jump the queue, so sorry everyone else! This was more than I could have hoped for. I'll be keeping in mind the aim for balance and prioritizing blended pieces and continuing to ignore the misguided advice that equates classic essence with conservative or traditional looks only. I also loved that you included hair in depth in this one-it made me realize how wearing my hair long and wavy is enough to honor the ethereal (and natural) in my blend, but going too classic with hair loses some of that sparkle with my more timeless wardrobe. I'll also be doing a deep dive into iconic Gwyneth Paltrow looks, especially from the 90s, since we have the same Kibbe ID, essence blend, and color season, but I hope someone will stop me if I get too Goop-y. But more importantly I came to terms with the fact that, try though I might, I just can't escape being classic...and that's OK lol. Thanks for helping me not feel boring:)

to my eyes, you look the most beautiful in this hairstyle, it draws attention to your admirable nose, deep eyes and plumpy lips. when you have your hair down, something is off. this classic hairstyle is revealing face features, you are so different than other mainstream faces that look all the same. i find it very beautiful, high class society-ish.

Great video! I was pretty sure I have a classical essence, but now I am convinced that it is in a very high percentage. I can handle almost no makeup, jewelry, or added elements, instead small details can tip the feeling of my outfit completely. And also, almost all the signature traits of a classic essence listed in this video were spot on, my sligtly longer than oval face and aquiline nose are apparently also on theme, who knew

I just had my colors and essenses done by Kitchener. I thought I was just classic. I'm 40% classic, 20% romantic, 20% natural (that surprised me), 10% high spirited and 10% dramatic. It's actually easier for me to get how to add just a 10% touch to an outfit. I think I could even do ok with balancing the classic with either romantic or natural. Not sure how to incorporate the 3 main essences into a look as natural and romantic seem quite opposite.

Personally I struggle with figuring out my blend-- I have a LOT of natural, but also classic, but also something else-- maybe even 2 others! And as an FG, sometimes the natural/classic mood boards are just NOT in my lines, leaving me on my own to figure it out. I'm getting there!

Edit* a perfect outfit for my blend is a semi high waisted structured skirt with a thick waist band. Fitted shirt (3/4 sleeves look amazing) and ballerina flats. I also like to now wear a scrub by with a organza? Thin see through fabric tie in a pony tail or braid. Very grace Kelly actually now that I think about it.

I can usually wear men's pieces without any problem, I think that's part of the dramatic essence in me. Looking at things through the essences and the Kibbe system really makes a lot of sense and explains many of the whys I've had with why some things compliment and some just don't look good! Based on this video (among other things), I now feel fairly certain I have Classic in my blend, though certainly not as dominant essence :) I was hesitant for a long time, as I don't feel that "sophisticated" most of the time (who does ;)), but e.g. my style has been called "posh" by some (as criticism - hah), though it's not in my opinion, just normal - I cant wear casual N style clothes without feeling (and looking) really, really sloppy ;), things easily beome "too much", and I like to look polished at all times if possible; all in all, the majority of things here fit me. (I go by Kitchener's system only, mainly as laid out by Truth Is Beauty, as Kibbe never made sense to me.)

Hi, Gabrielle-thanks for this great video! I think I’m a soft classic with a pretty petite frame, but I have always had muscular, short legs. My arms are long; I wear petite pants and regular tops. It’s confusing, but the Classic outfits are the ones that flatter me the most and the most comfortable. You clear things up so much, especially with the blends. I agree that all celebrities you show are very attractive, but they are also easy to find pictures of in different outfits. So glad you went over the history of “classic” look. When I finally discovered I’m TR and then romantic-ingenue-dramatic (from what I can decipher of essence 😅) I realized I didn’t have to look ridiculous wearing clothes that I thought makes me look timeless but that actually was disconnected on me. You can look timeless wearing what naturally vibes with your body and it doesn’t have to be the typical Audrey look

The work you put in your videos- kudos to you!! I wasn't able to figure out my essence at all, I'm a dramatic classic and after going through your videos and understanding more about all body types I'm pretty sure I'm it. With this video you really just gave me an epiphany that I might just be a classic essence. I feel there are two reasons for that, first is that when I took the test I was mainly scored into the classic category due to my facial features, like my body has a dramatic natural undercurrent going on with a bit of classic but most of my face had answers as C bcz I really just fell into the middle, nothing too small, nothing too big, nothing too round, nothing too sharp either. It was pretty balanced and this is exactly the second reason, which is also the reason why I was so (stupidly) confused what essence I am cuz my face gives both a dramatic look but also a romantic look but then it's neither or both and i was so confused and wrecked up the internet when the answer was right fucking in front of me... I'll definitely follow up your advice on how to confirm this since I can't get myself typed professionally and also the description you gave of the features and the essence, it's exactly who I am and what I live by, been told I am like. Classic is probably my dominant essence but with a undercurrent of dramatic and romantic too.. thanks so much for clearing this up and giving me a guideline (more like lifeline lmao I was so confused for no real reason!)

Hey! Thank you for these videos. I think I’m a dramatic classic with Kibbe, but since discovering the essences I realised why it felt like something was missing. Gabrielle, thank you so much for these "deep dives". I adore your content and the way you explain it all. When I first discovered body-typing, I was leaning Classic, however, I have asymmetrical facial features and am 5'2. I don't move or speak with inherent grace and that pushed me into soft natural. If my hair is overly coiffed, it's a fail. I do feel Classic is part of my blend and love a tonal outfit. I need to feel comfortable and free in my clothes. Figuring out proportional balance has been key, a chunky shoe or large bag is a no for me. Simple make-up and hair with some volume works for me at 55. Thank you for all that you put into your videos, it's appreciated.

  • @mandyads
    @mandyads 2 года назад +1

I've been waiting for thissss! I'm a Kibbe dramatic classic, but have a Kitchener classic-romantic-natural essence as far as how my facial features represent me. Interestingly enough, my personality is more of the vibes we get from the images of natural and ingenue with a good amount of romantic where applicable (not just walking around in my grown feminity in the hospital talking with patients, haha). I don't think many people would guess my actual personality from the Kitchener essence my face gives off. They would think I was more poised, graceful, and much softer than I actually am.
I'm so grateful for discovering Kitchener. My answers to the Kibbe test puts me in the soft classic realm... however, something wasn't quite right... I understood that Kibbe doesn't include the face anymore, but it's still included in all tests you see online. Kitchener made me realize that it was my yin-leaning face that was throwing my results off! If I separate my ever so slightly yang-leaning body from my face, I am very clearly a dramatic classic. hHowever, my face is more of a superrr soft classic... BOOM - it all made sense!
