    It is a good idea to loosen the fill plug before draining BUT LEAVE IT IN PLACE so you do not make a mess. The fluid level is above the hole when engine is not running.

    Hi D Wray, great stuff, appreciate your vids. I've got a 2.slow that I'm doing this on in a couple of days. Q about going through the gears (this is going to sound stupid but), the process is to go through P, R, N, D, not through all the forward gears (with tires rolling). Figure I can't be too thorough. Keep up the great work!

    Hi mate great video and fair play for taking on that task. I done an ATF change on my Mercedes E350 last year which is very similar only the manual recommended removing the pan and replacing the filter, pan gasket and one time use pan bolts. The difference in the 7g gearbox is you have to fill through the drain hole which is a PITA so I used a motive pressure bleeder and a length of clear tubing with an adapter to screw into the pan and a tap to turn of the flow of atf when needed. The process is then the same as the porsche were you give an initial fill 7ltrs in my case then you run the engine cycling through the gears getting the atf temp up to spec which I used an infra-red thermometer to check the temp then fill to spill. Bit of a daunting job but good sense of achievement when done. Keep up the good work. Mick 👍🍻👏

      @DWraysGarage  3 года назад +1

      I know the VW Golf R has a refill in the drain hole process so I just sold the car instead of dealing with it 😜. I know some do change out the entire pan and bolts but I didn't regret my approach when I saw how pure this fluid came out. Had it been 'sparkly', I may have been going more invasive before too long. Stay strong in lockdown, mate 👊💪

    This looks so much easier than the new VW Beetle. NO room, no inlet for fluid, need to pump it through the drain plug, then run through the gears as well and refill when the drain plug is on fire. Just bought a Macan to replace the Beetle.

    Did the PDK oil flush last month. A flush (drain and fill only) only requires a little less than 5 litres. In my case, 4.68 litres came out and at 40 degrees Celsius, 4.68 litres went back in before it started to drip. To do a complete fluid change, the PDK pan needs to be removed, you can also examine the magnet for metal filings and change the internal filter.

    • @dogwink
      @dogwink 2 года назад +1

      Not sure you need to change the internal filter (dropping the pan) on an automatic transmission until passing 100k miles. Do PDK/DSGs grind off a lot of debris by design, is that why?

    • @rickross6368
      @rickross6368 2 года назад

      @@dogwink You have to replace the internal filter every 40k miles. Failing to do so can easily result in a PDK failure

    Crazy thought/thinking.
    If you're draining the PDK for the 1st time.
    Why do you measure EXACTLY what came out, and refill with Exact amount and call it a Day. (Add .5 to 1 oz more; for the oil filter that absorbed some fluid) That then would be a pretty much stop on. 1 oz over/under won't kill your PDK.

  • @robertm1692

    Two questions. When you run through the gears are you using the paddle shifter and moving through all six gears and reverse with your foot on the brake? And when you do the "fill to spill to 40 degrees" do you just let the Macan idle and slowly fill with oil until the oil temp hits 40 degrees?

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  Год назад +1

      Great questions. In hindsight, I only opened up R, N and D when running thru the selector. So, I suppose it's likely that there was still some 'old' fluid that became mixed into the fresh from a couple of the valves. I filled to spill cold, then idled to temp and topped up to spill again - letting the flow slow back to a trickle - before buttoning it back up.

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  2 года назад +1

      Buy 6L to have available but you'll likely need around 5. Because this isn't a complete emptying and removal of the pan, some old fluid will remain in there.

  • @rickross6368

    The main filter is in the pan, and it doesn't really make much sense to replace the oil without that internal filter.

They cannot clearly identify the origin and were so hesitant that i kept driving for a year now till they finally claimed it is the transmission oil . Can getting the job done be more risky than taking no action at all ? Sounds silly i know but i lack trust .
