I have 2010 ford escape after filling up real rough starting replaced purge valve so far good --- hopefully stays --- about a year ago replaced throttle body ----
purge valve, i have a 1.8l sonic, i have read that that part is knows to go bad on them, i have yet to have an issue with it but i got a new one anyway just to have on hand, its super easy to change if needed.
The fumes do actually vent to atmosphere when refueling but it goes through the charcoal canaster to make it cleaner.
I had this issue on a Ford escape..replaced purge valve on evap can.. no change...replaced evap lines at throttle body...all ok after...
